  • In this video I'm going to show you my bulk grocery Azure Standard haul for our large family, tell you exactly how Azure works, give you my best Azure tips, and answer the question "Is Azure worth it?" As a homesteading family of 9, Azure is a big part of our plan to ditch the grocery store and instead source the grocery items we can't grow ourselves from other sources. This allows us more control over where our food comes from and allows us to buy in bulk on a budget.
    Make sure you subscribe so that you can follow along in our homesteading journey and learn along with us!

    I love Azure Standard for the best prices and variety of grains especially since I started grinding my own flour for better nutrition. I really enjoyed your video presentation involving your son, really precious and adorable...made me smile while watching it.

      Kamut is my favorite form of wheat. It has a slightly "buttery" taste for grain as well as a warmer yellow color for a grain product. My sister, who is a microbiologist, says that is probably because it contains the same compound that makes butter taste buttery.

    You can also have orders delivered directly to your home. I just purchased some sharp cheddar cheese raw milk made. I'm disabled so I cannot be unloading the trucks and my caregiver who would be bringing me to a drop point it's not in her job description to unload a truck. So I took nine items off my order and decided the cheese was what I really wanted because I can't get that in the store so I had it sent to my home. Azure standard is a corporation. I heard a husband and wife speaking about how they're trying to get away from corporate food. As your standard sells 90% of their products that you can also get in the grocery store and it's corporate food!

I would like to encourage you to look into that before committing to a certain milk cow. If you're not considering a jersey cow or one that produces even more A2 beta casein, like a guernsey, then you really should research the affects of A1 milk. I hope you find this helpful.

      It's hard to say overall because it took us many years to make the transition. Also, many of the products I buy from Azure I can't even get here locally. For example, wheat berries is not something I've seen at our local store.

    I noticed that much of your order is in small (1# bags) and in boxes. How to you store these things to protect from insects, varmints and vermin?

    • @TheFromScratchFarmhouse
      @TheFromScratchFarmhouse  3 роки тому

      Well we have an advantage because our cellar is just in our basement where there are none of those things. I recommend however the 5 gallon buckets and glass jars. Some people find that number 10 cans are great for keeping out critters as well.

    I looked at the site coincidentally yesterday. I do have a question, and am still waiting for Azure to answer it, they posted a price of $8.50 for what appeared to be 1 head of cauliflower, could that be correct?

    • @TheFromScratchFarmhouse
      @TheFromScratchFarmhouse  3 роки тому

      Yes, that is correct. Their organic produce CAN be on the spendy side. I usually do not purchase out of season organic produce from them for this reason. I get mostly bulk and dry good from them and in season produce in bulk. Hope this helps!

    So how does it work with ordering and items being in stock? Is it whoever pays first gets items and the item count decreases? Is that why customers are more likely to get what they order if they keep an eye on the number of items available?
    We just got an email telling us everything we ordered is shipping!

    • @TheFromScratchFarmhouse
      @TheFromScratchFarmhouse  2 роки тому +1

      Oh good to hear! So stock is actually not deducted from until the items are pulling for shipping. So in other words, it is whoever's order ships first that gets first dibs on product, not who pays first. That is why you might place your order 2 weeks prior when there is plenty of stock and still not get your items. I advise people to place their order only a day or so prior to the cut-off to make sure you get your items. The thinking here is that you can adjust to a different quantity if need be. Hope this makes sense!

    Is corn flour the same as corn meal?

    • @TheFromScratchFarmhouse
      @TheFromScratchFarmhouse  3 роки тому +1

      Essentially yes, but the technical difference is that corn meal is ground more coarsely, while corn flour is ground finer. Corn meal would be for things like cornbread, while corn flour is for things like tortillas. I just buy corn and then grind it the consistency I need!

    Do the items have your name on them or do you just grab what you bought?

      They have name plates so you just go up to your name plate and grab your stuff :)

      At our drop you just help unload the boxes, which are boxed up and labeled just for you at Azure. So you might have ordered 5 different things that are all packaged in one box. As people unload, they check the label and call out the names. It’s actually pretty fun! 😉

    • @TheFromScratchFarmhouse
      @TheFromScratchFarmhouse  3 роки тому

      Unfortunately, when you place your order your items are not reserved, which means the items may be out of stock by the time it ships. This is why it is so very important to pay attention to the quantity in stock as well. Sorry you had a bad experience!

    Organic is no better for you than regular food and people think that organic Farms do not use pesticides and that is not the case.
