I've sailed on one of those and believe me you will not be loving it anymore in rough weather. Very impracticable design. What looks good to the eyes is often not seaworthy.
All that wood looks like a lot of work, but honestly, I love this design. Very innovative! The open space might not be so good if your on big seas getting thrown from one side of the cabin to the other, but I reckon this would make a great coastal cruiser / weekend / holiday get away boat.
I used to agree but after oiling for more than 2 years and just switching to varnish I would definitely say for on deck use varnish is better. I have switched to oil for all brightwork under the dodger and varnish for everything exposed to the elements. It seems to be working well
To Hell with varnish. Only ignorant sailors still use varnish. Use a 50/50 mix is linseed oil and whatever functions as a turpentine these days. Varnish is for used-car salesmen who are trying to sell boats. Linseed oil and turpentine should be used on boats. Use varnish in your goddamn house.
Another nice walk thorough video. I know a lot of boat owners, of all different kinds. I don't know one [1] that does not have at least photos, and usually videos of his boat underway. You could edit them if you ask. Your viewers want to see the boat underway not tied to a dock.
I simply love sailboats and how well they encapsulate the leisure lifestyle. All this give me hope for the future. Thirty six feet looks perfect. The Bimini would make this craft possible for me as a multi melanoma survivor. So much room! As a backpacker this boat is enormous. I have a cousin I love to death who has Parkinson’s. He and his sister live near the water on the eastern seaboard. He lived on a 36 footer before he settled in Annapolis and his girlfriend took him in. I’ve always envied his ability to live on a sailor though he wound up there by divorce. This is perfect for an old man who lives alone. Thanks for the tour
Nice design but really needs some TLC. It makes me wonder as to the current owners care of this boat. It is easier to keep a boat in ship-shape then letting it go to a point where it takes a lot of work to bring it back to what it should be. What else did they not keep up on??? I can't help but wonder. No problem though if the price is adjusted accordingly.
Hello What is its sailing performance like? Pointing ability and reverse motoring ease? I am actually looking at a Bayfield 36 and wonder how it sails, Ty
Classic case of an older vessel having a more imaginative use of space by virtue of clever design features. Externally reminiscent of older ChoyLee designs.
I LOVE this boat!!! What a great live a board it would be for a couple. With kids perhaps to small. It needs sanding and painting, a lot of elbow grease... But what a fun little boat. Price is too high I think. Lot's of love from the Netherlands, Daniëlle 😘🙋
I really like the Gozzard boats because they use a lot of dual purpose areas. If I could get my finances together, I'd be looking for a boat like this.
Looking at the forepeak, it looks like an area you soul use for a lounge with small wet bar during the day and close it up for the owner's cabin in the evening. Seeing a lot of comment on the condition of the teak. Considering that good teak takes forever to rot, I don't see anything around the portlights that indicates massive leaking and didn't see anything indicating leakage on the ceiling. This is not everyone's ideal boat, but it will make a good boat for a couple that want to cruise and are not afraid to clean her up while they sail.
Wow, $US135,000 is WAY too high. I'm looking at a steel round bilge ocean going 45 foot liveaboard sailboat project 80% finished for $AU49,000. No guesses which one I'll take.
Agreed on the price being very ambitious. Lots of water damage, leaking port lights, sole is shot. Who knows what else. I love Gozzards/Bayfields and own one myself. This one needs some work.
I don't know this boat well, or why they hold their prices so well but Goxxards of this age seem to all be on sale for $120,000 up to $175,000. Personally while I'm sure they're really lovely, I can get a lot newer boat for that price or if I'm looking at 1980s boats, I could get a lot bigger and better condition.
I agree with both of you as well. A tough boat to judge, but it's pretty beat up, but I still like it. Definitely not at that price tag. I'll predict it sells for roughly $50k.
@@chrisgeorge2717 After a good survey report, I'd say $50k would be a good starting point for negotiations. It has some nice features and a unique layout for a boat that size.
I like the walk-around space at the helm. Why do they design cockpits so that you have to step up onto the bench seat to get around the wheel? Beneteau has 2 wheel designs with open stern that seem to be much more user friendly.
This boat would be great if you're cruising where you can run for a day and put in, and at anchor it's truly spacious. That nifty forward cabin, though, is usable only as a sail locker in a seaway. The L-shaped galley isn't safe in rough weather or offshore, even if the cook is tied in. The galley port looks like it's leaking badly and would need to be dug out and reinstalled. Interior teak finish has reached the end of its useful life, and refinishing will be expensive. Same for the cabin sole. Possible water damage to the teak in the head. Exterior teak is weathered and wants refinishing. At a sale price of something like $80K, it might be worth considering. At $135, it's just too much.
I love the over all design/Chesapeake style boats I feel take you back to boats of lore, but keep the modern sailing equipment to make our lives easier.
You went by the engine access pretty quickly, but it looked like you might need a shoehorn to get to what you need to service it. I actually like this boat, but agree the price is too high for everything that needs work.
The interior and exterior layout is really impressive! You never see many boats in this size range offering the type of privacy and number of conversions. The fore cabin is the best example. I think the owner might be seeing "vintage" over condition. That might swing with a boat from 1967...not so much for one from 1987...with the amount of wood work needed. And that's just what we saw on the tour. If I could, with a pass on a surgery, I'd begin at $80k and see where it ends up. Just my thoughts.
Lovely layout, really nice boat to renovate. At 13.500,- it would make sense. It has had a high water event ruining the lower woodwork and who knows what more. To bad the owner is still seeing his almost new boat he bought 20 years ago. It will never sell....
in the years he bought this boat he probably paid 45,000ths for it and in the shape it is now one need's 50'000 at least of TLC MUCH NEEDED and what else so that sale price is !!!!!!!!!!and by the way there to much publicity everywhere today don't really need more thank's but no thank's
Poor example of this boat and very inappropriately priced. There's one in the Great Lakes in bristol condition with a ton of upgrades listed for $175K. There's a Bayfield version of this boat in Florida in similar condition listed for $59K. Layout is innovative, but that's about all that can be said for this specific boat.
i mostly like the layout of the interior but i cant get past all the varnish work it needs. hundreds of hours. i imagine the rigging and sails are about worn out too, i dont think i could offer half of what they're asking
Those boats were built in Canada. Nice boats that were pretty well made (if I remember correctly the molds went through three different owners). The owner of the marina in Charlevoix, Mi. where we moored our Casey cutter, had a franchise for the first iteration, Mariner Boats built in Bayfield, Ont. They were roomy, sea kindly, but slow as molasses in January.
There are a lot of things I am not seeing for a boat at this listing. Lithium batteries, electronic updates, separate shower stall and what's up with that interior? The woodwork looks like she's been rode hard and put away wet and my question is why? The v berth sink is a total waste of space but like many of you I like the general layout. For the price the presentation has to be better to move it. I would suggest investing in the woodwork and some electronics.
That is definitely a "diamond in the rough". Didn't look like a lot of work needed to be done on the exterior beyond refinishing the teak and a thorough scrubbing/waxing. The INTERIOR on the other hand just about needs to be torn out and redone.
I like it but given the work that looks to be needed and the limited number of people that would be interested in a layout like that, I am really surprised by the price, thought it would be less than half that.
Much as I like a Ted Gozzard design externally (I seriously considered a Bayfield 32' which is also a Gozzard design) I couldn't get my head around the interior. Like most Canadian boats, more a fresh water boat than a good ocean passage maker, still a beautiful boat but not practical in many ways
Not trying to introduce anything to your great channel but I need to judge this one fairly in the only way I know currently. Depending on the hull, keel, bilge, prop, etc.... If it floats, it gets a 10. Design? Another 7. Maybe add 3 for uniqueness. Overall, a Q Rating of 20.
The teak condition is why you think the price is too high? LOL the price is too high because even in perfect condition this wouldn't be more than a $60,000 yacht.
If the owners have let general maintenance go south like the exterior teak railings etc. I wouldn't touch that boat. for half the price. Pig in a poke comes to mind!
pretty neglected vessel... it takes a lot of TLC and $ to get this refitted..... considering the condition in todays saturated market i would offer around $30k.
Who ever takes this on, needs deep pockets. I have done a lot of painting, and varnishing over the years. To sort this out is going to take a very well equipped workshop, and lots of willing slaves.
Way too expensive !In comparison the gorgeous Tayana 48 is only $40.000 more. , you can tell maintenance was slack, cheap anchors on a few feet of chain on one roller, lines are frayed ,not much instrumentation, no radar, no solar anything, to me it is a 69grand boat max.... if very sound. T

I agree. Its weird. Plus tanks were overlooked here. Fresh water. Fuel. And nothing to hang onto down below as you mention. Wild ride below.
that "living room / v-berth" is brilliant!
thank you for finally showing a gozzard. i've been asking others to do so and have had no luck.
Scott Smith from Loverboy was swept off the deck of his 36ft sailboat in 2000 and was lost at sea.

Actually its a newer version of the bayfield design after the bayfield factory fire destroyed most of the molds.
Thanks for posting and sharing. Interesting to see the unique layout.
Nice Tour 👍
It’d be nice to know how old the standing rigging is on these tours 🤓
Really cool layout!

About a third the price. But I do like some of the features of that design.

One of my friend have the same model, but in navy blue. He also have the same problem with the varnished wood.😀
Nice. Boy that's nice. Real nice.
The woodwork needs more than a little refinishing. Must be some long standing leaks that caused the damage

Thank you.
Love the design, style and rig; lovely vessel. It is in need of more than a little TLC and the price is way out.
Not really worth more than $65,000 and that depends on the motor, and condition of the sails and lines.
I initially would have said it's worth $85,000 just because it's a Gozzard, but you may be more accurate. It needs a LOT of work.
