    Great boat, and in the current market, a great price. Personally, I have no problem with the owner painting the teak interior - less maintenance and a brighter, more liveable boat! An unusual layout interior wise, but I’m ok with it - and I’m a sucker for a center cockpit ketch!
    Nice tour!

    Again a beautiful boat with upholstery looking like wallpaper from a 1970's bad dream. At least there was decent leather in the dinette. And by the way a sal OON is where you go to drink - a sal ON is the main seating area in a boat or (now archaic) a house...

    First glance that is a smoking price for a Mason 63. Then considering the painted teak interior (stunned they would do that) and the visible delaminating chain locker bulkhead it is easier to see why the price is so low. I hope whomever buys that fantastic boat hires the best surveyor they can find, I suspect there is a lot more damage covered by paint. All that aside, they were a premier boat that is capable of going almost anywhere in comfort and safety.

    • @NotOnYourLife

      @Post Toasty Probably all the way to the tabbing, but there is no way to know without a good inspection of the scope of delamination, if minor then repair if not then replace. A very thorough survey with the best surveyor you can find will be the best money spent up front.

    This boat would be great for a person who really needs a lot of space for a reasonable price, but still short on the asking price for a Cat. You have to keep in mind that a 60 ft hull is going to have considerably higher cost for dockage, mooring, and especially haul-outs & maintenance. If you can keep it in the water most of the time and then sail to the most affordable yards every 2 to 3 years for bottom paint you'd do ok. The 7 foot draft is a bit much for me, I'd like to be able to get into nice sheltered anchorages in shallow water, but Delos has done pretty well around the globe with a similar draft.

    A very nice tour of a well designed boat of actually an older era than the 80’s… At that time the other serious blue water cruisers already built more modern designs with almost complete flat interior floor and a layout that looks closer to today’s more common designs. Ta-Shing is indeed one of the best builders in the east. Not much description and evaluation of the rigging and systems, while cosmetically, the owners made a good job, it isn’t clear about the rest - under the floorboards throughout, chain plates, plumbing etc.
    As for the price, a couple can get today a 43-49, modern designed good cruiser from the early 2000’s that will provide more or less the same useable living space, way more convenient, with way easier handling under sails, faster and with fin/modified fin keel - most likely for a lower cost and much less docking and ongoing maintenance costs. Insuring this boat may be challenging too.

    • @SOLDOZER
      @SOLDOZER 2 роки тому

      Broker description says brand new standing rigging and engine only has 285 hours. Not everyone wants a brand new boat that looks like a dentist office.

    Great looking boat, surprising price. I love the Detroit 453. It's noisy but will last forever. I'm aware of one 1983 workboat with 50,000 engine hours on it, never been rebuilt.
    I get that the white Awlgrip brightens up the cabin and makes maintenance easier, but it's like putting linoleum over a hardwood floor; bit of a heartbreak. I'd be curious what her coring is on that 80's hull and stringers too.

    • @Davidcallard

      A lovely boat and great for someone such as myself who likes à lot of space and equates big with safety - I know, it's all in the head. I rest my case 😌. All that aside, I didn't realise that they had painted over the teak so I liked it as it is ....... and I still do. I too noticed the delaminating bulkhead in the for'ard chain locker but I don't think that should be too big a problem to fix - maybe just stop it getting any worse. I think a really thorough survey would be a must have. I would be forgiving of all but major, expensive to fix faults. Overall, a boat I could learn to love.*
      * Never forget, the asking price is just what it says it is; the asking price. Only the buyers can determine the sale price.

    Interesting boat with some attractive features. But did I miss something or is there no nav station of any kind? No chart plotter or other nav gear other than at the helm? No radio equipment? No workspace or storage for charts? For a boat built for cruising, this seems to be a pretty big omission. I'd carve some space out of those redundant settees in the main saloon and set up a proper nav station out of the weather (no matter how much that canvas bimini seems to protect the cockpit.) Guessing that this would be an expensive boat to own, but it's a nice example of an earlier time.

    You can pay 250K for a nice 32 footer. Or a fairly mediocre at best multi. Agree with L. Need a very good survey on those decks. She is certainly in nice shape on the surface, inside and out. And on the awlgrip paint down below. Wow, really makes a difference. Keep in mind that another reason to paint bright interiors is staining of the wood under the varnish. It’s pretty common and this is a good fix for it. (Been there, done that). But really did a first class job. The engine is a rebuilt Detroit 4-53N. Old but good old tech. The problem to day is parts for them. They came out in the 1950’s. Love the tankage. 400water and 700 fuel. For a change they got it right on more fuel!! You can make water but not fuel.

    I like the aft portion of this boat more than the forward portion. I think I'd have preferred to see the forward head and dinette space used more wisely. I also don't like having a toilet that close to a food prep area if it's avoidable. That said, it's a really interesting and highly livable boat. If someone wanted to rejigger the layout, there's a lot of good space to play with.

    • @SteelDoesMyWill
      @SteelDoesMyWill 3 роки тому +1

      I agree, I think that Dinette right across from the head door is a bad idea but it is far enough from the galley itself. I haven't been on many boats of that vintage where you can't get at least a slight scent of the head, so I wouldn't want have that right across where I am sitting to eat. Even if you have a good overhaul where the all of the tubing used for the head is newest non-gas permeable sanitation line, that still doesn't account for having a crew member emerge from the Battle of Midway in the head as you are trying to enjoy a meal. There seems to be enough seating in the main saloon, I'd convert that extra dinette into lockers, maybe a work bench with tool storage.

It's an example of taking a luxury beautiful boat and making it look like a run of the mill Hunter or Catalina. It looks agonizingly cheesy. the Masons were built by Pacific Asian Enterprises - who now make the Nordhavn line of trawler yachts. The build quality is supposed to be some of the best to be had. The chart table was converted into TV space - meh - but it's not like it's built in or something. The same broker has a Mason 51 for sale - will you be doing a tour of that one too? I don't follow boat prices that closely, but I have seen if you remove or damage the teak you greatly reduce the value of the boat. If you want a practical boat buy a way cheaper all fiberglass boat you can just hose out. Masons are not common sailboats. Smaller ones in good shape are selling for more than this one. There seems to be only one other Mason 62 for sale - in California. I saw it on Boats.com. (I can't link to it) If you google Mason 62 for sale it shows - on boats.com. This boat's not even worth $100,000. You do realize that this old outdated design of yachts is no longer valuable. Well it may technically be a 63 ft boat the equivalent interior size can be had in a 43 to 45 ft modern Hull design. I mean just look at it it's got 63 ft of length but a water line of significantly less than 50 ft while modern Hall designs carry the beam further aft and if they are 63 ft in length you're going to get about 60 ft in water line so about like this is not only outdated in its design and performance it's also in respect to this particular boat terribly maintained in an awful condition I'm I'm really serious when I say it's about a 60 or $70,000 boat at most

      I think it looks great. I have owned several boats with all teak interior. It’s like living in a cave. And the slightest water stain (hard to avoid) glares out at you. They did a first class job on the interior. Just my opinion, having owned several.

      You would spend your whole life doing teak work. You clearly never owned a boat with any.

    That has got to be the driest cockpit around. You would have to try hard to get wet up there.
    Great boat - dogshit kitsch interior.

    videos without your wife blocking the view of everyone trying to see the boat are 1000 x better, watch any boat review, or other review, especially in tight qtrs, nobody is that stupid to block the view like she does.
