Always though RTB was an ill fit for Manowar. Every guitarist after him has been a super-shredder whereas RTB is more of a feel-type guitarist. Having come from that punk band The Dictators, and then going to Manowar, well, the riffs were tight, but the solos were far from shred-fests.

Gibson SG is not a best variant for playing this metal, imho.
I thought it was just me to. I hate the sound of SG guitars they just sound awful for metal.
The pickups in the guitar and the amp do a lot more than the guitar's wood and shape. I used to have an ESP Explorer with EMG-81s but my SG seems to do everything better than that ESP did.
@@Senythril an SG can definitely do metal, though what kind is up for debate. Classic metal, stoner, doom and NWOBHM? Absolutely. Other variants? It comes up a little thin sounding sometimes due to its thickness ( it IS a very thin guitar)
