Great interview with Ross..I was so fortunate to see the band at L’Amours in Brooklyn during the early days of true Metal mania…Those early shows were with other head bangers that were there for the love of music..I dig seeing how emotional and passionate Ross is to his music and loyal friends..We love you brother

Both Ross and Joey are two „special“ ones, but to the bad luck of Ross, Joey seems the smarter one. And what both didn‘t mention: there wouldn‘t have been a Manowar without Eric Adams. To my knowledge, they got their first deal with a demo where Adams already was a part of, so it was NOT just the jaming of Joey und Ross what sealed the deal. It‘s not hard to dislike Manowar for whatever reason, but I guess there is no one out there who denies that Eric is one of the best Heavy Metal singers of all time and he STILL is with 70 years old! HE dragged Manowar, not Joeys weird bass guitar or anything else…

Eric made the band with out a thought but unfourtanatley album sales are not splt even the memeber with the most writing credits trademarks publushing royalties gets all the money on album sales. Some front men see no album royalties they only earn when touring. Why do think Joey republished The Battle Hyms Album because Ross The Boss cant collect on it like he still does on the original album .

The song Defender was originally released on a 12 inch single back in 1983 and then rerecorded for the Fighting the World album as a tribute to Orson Welles when he passed.

Remember playing a gig in the late 80s in a small rock/metal pub in Newbury, England, 2 guitars, with Marshall JCM800 stacks not cranked but loud enough , Marshall bass rig , double, Sonor Phonic plus kit and decent vocal P.A.and during the break after the first set on comes the new CD jukebox with Manowar's Wheels of fire and it was louder than we were

I asked ChatGPT to write a story about the two bandmates.
"Write a story about Joey DeMaio meeting his former bandmate and partner Ross The Boss, and how the latter vents his anger at DeMaio for firing him from Manowar. Ross The Boss also accuses DeMaio of betraying true metal and promises revenge in the afterlife"
It was a dark and stormy night when Joey DeMaio, the legendary bassist for Manowar, met his former bandmate and partner Ross The Boss. The two musicians had not seen each other since Ross was fired from the band, and tensions were high as they sat down to talk.
Ross was fuming with anger as he glared at Joey across the table. "You think you can just fire me like that and get away with it?" he spat out. "I was a founding member of this band, and you had no right to kick me out like that."
Joey tried to explain that the decision to let Ross go had been a difficult one, but Ross was having none of it. "You're just a washed-up has-been, Joey," he said, his voice dripping with venom. "You've betrayed the true spirit of heavy metal with all your synthesizers and electronic sounds. I'll never forgive you for what you've done."
Joey was taken aback by Ross's outburst and tried to reason with him, but it was no use. Ross was beyond reason, consumed by his anger and resentment. "You'll get yours in the afterlife, Joey," he promised, before storming out of the room.
Joey was left alone, shaken and saddened by the confrontation with his former friend. He knew that he had made mistakes and let some of his fans down with the direction of the band, but he never meant to hurt Ross or betray the spirit of heavy metal. He just hoped that one day, Ross would be able to forgive him and move on.

For my opinion after Sign of the Hammer album Manowar gone into mainstream, with the firs 4 albums there were a still that dirty sound of metal distortion, when digitalisation started and everything become more clear it become boring, but Manowar was still listenable even after Boss left, until Louder than Hell album where Ligan did a good job on his firtst album...,after that like DeMaio lost himself, and had nobody was there to guide him,so I don't recognise them any more but with years were a bit worse and worse until today, when Manowar become some kind of a symphonic band...that is not listenable any more same as a Bon Jovi since R.Sambora left...also I think, many years passed away they aren't a kids any more DeMaio and Ross...they could forget the past and make even one last Manowar album which could closely sound as a 4 first albums...but that's easier to say that to do...look what Helloween did,Weikath brough back Kiske and Hansen...only because for fan's wish...Joey DiMaio should do the same...

I do love Ross, he was great in Manowar, but honestly I can't find myself to love his own band(s). But I still love Manowar, never dissapointed. Ross's music is not bad, but it's still not the same level as Manowar, especially the singer (in my opinion) is dragging the band down. I know you can't match Eric though.
But I can't help myself, everytime I hear Ross talking it looks to me like he can't move on he left Manowar.
But as I said, I love him, he is/was and always will be my HERO and my Manowarrior.
But as I said, his own bands are somehow not the same level as Manowar, I feel the same with Tarja Turunnen (ex Nightwish) I love her as a singer, one of the best ever, but hew own music is 5 levels below what Nightwish is doing

I agree with Ross as well simply because those first 6 albums were all i knew of for years and when ToS came out... it was fast yes but i was disappointed. It just didnt sound like ManOwaR to me. And lets not get into the KL era.

    • @flonkplonk1649

ToS was a masterpiece.. some of the first 6 albums are completely overhyped even if they have 1 or 2 or 3 classics on every record

I do not like how he said that Joey had 0 discography when they met in 1980, while he had 4 LPs (3 with Dictators and 1 with that other band in 1979) because in reality Joey was the bass player in a single in 1978, a song with a title "Ship in a stormy sea" , or something like that. I have found the song in youtube actually, and I did not know that in the late 80ies when I became a fan of Manowar. So if he wanted to brag (which is something he can do, I do not see it as something bad) he could still say the truth "when we met in 1980 I had already 4 LPs with 2 different bands, when he had only 1 single from 1978", and still brag.
