thanks so much man really appreciate that. I think I lack consistency on UA-cam if I am honest lol I put too much time into my Instagram stuff, but my attention is on UA-cam now, thanks for watching :)
Great video, I learned a lot! You are one of the few good quality videos about shooting onsite without using flash. I am just starting out and need a lighting set up. Your's looks great, but how did you use to tilt the diffuser like that? Was it a special clamp or arm?
Thanks dude yeah I think there’s a huge difference between the ideal way of shooting and the real life way of doing it. Can’t fire a flash while there’s a tone of people in there. I was just using a couple of clamps and the a cheap light stand that had a reflector clamp on one end then I clamped it to another light stand in front to make the angle. It was nothing special it was just a matter of leaning it then clamping it in place :)
@DillonOsborne Really appreciate the reply! I tried watching the video in 0.25 speed to try and figure it out SO MANY times haha. I think you are the only video I found of someone using a non-full frame camera that uses reasonably affordable lighting besides flash. If you ever think about doing a course on Practical Beginner Restaurant Photography please let me know. You'll have your first student by the end of the day.
@@taylorhill1449 no problem, glad i could help, it is a full frame camera, just using a crop lens at that point, which auto adjusts the sensor size when mounted. Yeah the lighting for that shoot was super cheap and cheerful, couldn't blast that flash or take up too much space so had to find another solution.
This is class man! Glad you helped me out on Twitter because i'm loving your stuff! I used to shoot for a coffee company when I still lived in Scotland but it was in no way as professional as yours haha! Still learning but great video man. Informative and entertaining!!
yeeeeeeooooo thanks Ruaridh, appreciate you making the effort to check out insta and Yotuueb man thanks and stoked you like the vibe. Happy to help dude and hope it works out for ya :)
I do not I’m afraid. But to be honest the best way to do it is just walk in the door and chat to them. Even if it means you shoot something short and simple for free as a test for both parties, then step it up. I had been into that coffee shop loads before hand, got to k ow the guys there and shot Instagram stuff on my phone and just tagged them. Then when they had some budget I was top of mind. I still shoot stuff with them now. Just finished shooting a whole load of new stuff with them last week. So it’s really about relationship building.
Nout Koggel awesome dude. Glad it helped. It’s so uncomfortable shooting around other people like that lol you just have to own it hahah how did your shoot go?
This was a real life client Job, I could not share the photos before the client had used them. There was a link included in the description to view the images.
dude hahaha when I shot this video it was a daily vlog and I couldn't share until the Client had published them... check them out here www.diltakesphotos.com/coffee-shop-photography
@@DillonOsborne First of all. Thanks for replying on an old post to a comment that wasn't a quick one for you to answer. Second of all HOLY SHIT. These are phenomenal. Should link this in your bio now. Honestly you made this look so easy haha. I'm not sure if i love you or hate you for that hahaha. I am looking at doing my first shoot and that is just mad how talented you are. Believe me i have watched this vid so many times. In terms of editing what was your process?
Mr Mac no problem dude and thanks very much :) in hindsight waiting on uploading this video would have made life easier but the I would have missed a daily video upload hahaha rock and a hard place. stoked you liked the photos :)
@@DillonOsborne Can't miss a daily upload haha. I'm subscribed now anyway. Talented guy, wishing you all the best as you deserve it.... but selfishly hoping you don't blow up too much and forget about youtube haha
Hey thanks a lot man! ❤️ More more more!! I need more real life down to earth stuff like this. ❤️. I hope to get over my anxiety to just go to a nearby restaurant n ask them for a photoshoot
thanks dude appreciate it :) I've shot a few things for them now and its always good fun. But yeah do that, tis a great way to get started and get your name out there.
That’s a whole other skill set. In a nutshell, discuss what they would like to achievable what they oils like to get from the shoot, the ask their budget. Then proposed them a deliverable list for their budget.

I want to do this here in my little town but idk how to go about it. Do you have a video laying out how to interact with owners ?

Hi, I am super new to food photography. What settings did you have your camera set to that captured the majority of those photos? thanks a bunch!
A bit of a mixture, kinda changes as I moved around. Full manual, Iso 200-1000, shutter around 140-180, f4-f8

Where is your accent from? It sounds like a cross between Northern Irish and a New Zealand accent.
Very close lol Northern Irish and South African. It’s rather messed up haha a lot of people say New Zealand and then Canadian😒

What lens did u used ?
Back then I was using a Sigma 16mm 1.4. It's a crop sensor lens but it's incredible.
What about an idiots guide to starter slr cameras? settings for pictures etc
