I have Apraxia of Speech; I'm 22 years old. It's going to be ok, I was on the severe side of Childhood Apraxia of Speech. I was non-verbal until I was 5 years old. I went to Speech therapy for 15 years. Every single kid has a different path with Apraxia of Speech like how long they need to go to Speech Therapy. It is a really long road! I still struggle with my speech. I would have to guess my speech intelligibility is about in the mid-'90s to high 90's percent. My Voice Accent kind of sounds like a robot kind of.
Right now I'm attending a Local Community College to get My Associates Degree in Cyber Security

Stragled for many years ,but now speaks totaly fine( she is 20 now) I think Lindy will speak , she just need more time to learn it. Our son has a disability that is genetic but his speech seems very similar to apraxia. He may end up with that diagnosis too someday. But thanks for all you do! It’s great to learn from parents experiencing similar things.

My sibling had apraxia,, with developmental disability. Intensive early intervention from around 3-4 eventually led to quite good speaking by her teens. The early intervention with soeech therapists and practice at home is so important! Confidant Lindy will make huge progress!!
Don’t despair! Specialists will help her 👍. Imagine Helen Keller (watch the old movie with Ann Bancroft or listen to the Helen Keller story). She was very smart. She was also deaf, blind and dumb (unable to speak, not stupid). She became a public speaker and, an advocate for the blind and folks with other disabilities. She was a hero whose story should inspire you. 🙏✨

I had never heard of Aprexia until you started to talk about it with Lindy.It’s great she has been diagnosed but I know it’s tough.She is just gorgeous,and has a difficult road ahead but I’m so so glad she’s got you and Will. I can understand this is a hard blow for you again and nothing can really be said to make things beter. But you and Will are amazing parents and you will guide her throught this and she will be just fine. If i have learned anything from your family it's how much your kids learn and jump forward in there abilities and how much they surprise us and you everyday ❤️

My husband has apraxia and has had it for 28 years be 29 years in April. I know how you feel but don’t give, up he can say words now that they said he would never say so keep working, you got this girl.
You can sympathize with her, you don't know how she feels though, this is her baby girl. Mother/,daughter, completely different than husband/wife
Great video you are super mom 💗 my 3.5yrs old son was just diagnosed with Apraxia and I'm doing a lot of research and so far I've found that chiropractic therapy is amazing because it helps the nervous system function better and there are case studies showing improvements in these children so there is hope 😭 🙏🏽

You’re one strong mama!!! You have been dealt a lot but I can tell how much better you are doing since starting therapy!!! A communication device and sign language will help her so much! I prefer sign language because you never have to worry about needing it charged or broken. The two together can be lifesavers!!! You are right you can see how freaking smart Lindy is. She understands everything which is so promising and why I think she will learn sign language and will catch on really easily!!

Don't apologize for how your feeling, your a mom that worries about the future for them on top of being overwhelmed. Everything will be ok keep your faith momma. My grandson will be 3 next month and he has it also. He had a stroke when he born, he also has LGS which is multiple types of seizure and Monday will be having brain surgery to stop the seizures. We're friends on FB if you want to see our lil warrior Parker. They said he shouldn't be alive and I said they're not GOD lol
Parker walks, though he can't talk also he has his own way of telling us his needs and wants. Also we don't have his AAC device yet. Many blessings and prayers awesome family.

I hope you're getting some support with all of the issues you're carrying with your kids. Because you're dealing with a lot. And by a lot I mean this has got to be overwhelming. I don't see how you can have any time for you and with all you've got going on with them you need it.

I'm not a parent and I can definitely understand how getting a new diagnosis is scary especially when you have multiple children with special needs But I encourage you to not put so much focus on them being "typical children" They will succeed in their futures in their own time and in their own way. For context I have cerebral palsy And autism and have 2 University degrees
Hi Emily, What about teaching Lyndie Sign Language? I've been an Interpreter for the Deaf for over 35 years and I've found children with Apraxia soar when communicating with ASL. I'd love to teach her via Zoom or something. She would do amazing with ASL and be able to communicate 🤟
They also do quite well with AAC! I worked with a child with CAS who really enjoyed the iPad device as it provided her with auditory input as to what the word sounds like as well

If you haven’t already you should contact Crystal Petit of Crazy Pieces. Her 4 year old daughter has Apraxia. She knows a lot about it and I’m sure she’d share her knowledge
when I was her age, I did not know how to keep or where to put my tongue in my mouth I did not learn how to until I was about 8 or 9
I watch a bit of the channel "our LANDing crew" and several of the children also had linked disabilities (particularly autism), and they talked a bit there about them having done genetic testing and found that a chromosomal abnormality was passed down from momma and shared between the kids. I wonder if the similarity between your children's disabilities is due to something similar to this, a genetic link, because all of them impact language (angelman, autism, dyslexia, apraxia). So interesting and thank you so much for spreading awareness about CAS!
My brothers 3 sons struggled with speech the same way and didn’t even begin to be able to form coherent words until they were 5 & 6 years old. They are all grown young men now and are totally fine and amazing! We have to be careful about allowing our children to be “labeled,” and put into all these govt. programs. Lindi is very bright and she will develop her speech in her own time.

Hi guys how are you guys doing? I have a question for you? Do you have a podcast, and if you do what is it called. I am blind and also autistic my son is also autistic and has epilepsy his name is Luke. He also had a tongue tie as well. Which they have hopefully I think I have corrected. But insurance is a bear what it comes to his medical needs. How are you guys all doing, give all the kids my love. Give them hugs and pets for me.

I know I could look this up, but what’s the differences between apraxia and ataxia?? My son had aphasia, he’s autistic. It took a long time but he eventually got words to come out. He was about 8. We know Lindy has the best parents possible! You Emily, and Will, are just packed full of love and devotion to all your “babies”. All of them are so blessed to have you both in their courts fighting for services and cheering with their accomplishments. You have a beautiful family and it’s a wonder watching you all work together. Now I can’t wait for her to get that talking devise and see her words bypass her mouth!!!😃😃
Apraxia is when a person has trouble with speech but ataxia is where a person has trouble with balance

@@jmleeinla Anytime. And if you don't know she has 6 kids. Sawyer has autism, ADHD, and hyperlexia. Griffin has angelman syndrome and epilepsy. Lindy has dyspraxia and apraxia. Wyn has crmo. Emily has dyslexia. Griffin and Sawyer are twins and are 7. Harrison is 10. I'm not sure how old Wyn is. I think Posey and Lindy are 5 and 6 but I am not sure

I can’t walk anymore. Lots of doctors aren’t familiar with it! Keep on learning!!!
Intense speech therapy or even once a week therapy is not easily available in my country. It is very expensive and not much interaction between parent and therapist. I try looking for ways of doing the therapy myself but it is very hard. Material or books are not available in my country. My son lost all his words and sentences when he was 3 and a half

My son is 4 and is level 3 Autistic and non verbal, and lately I have really been wondering if he has Apraxia-he doesn’t have any functional method of communication yet, but every now and then, (like once every 3-6 months) he will pop off with a random attempt at a word, and it will never return, ever, he will sound occasionally like he is speaking a different language, but attempting to talk to us-like it sounds like he is genuinely trying to speak to us, but it is just non sensical sounds-once, he randomly made some animal sounds for the first time EVER, they were not perfect pronunciation however it definitely was something mommy knew he was trying to make the sounds, and it never ever happened again.
He started speech at 14 after physical therapy referred him as an infant when they noticed he was not babbling.
I really just want to know, because if he has apraxia then they may be able to help him if they use a different approach- the older he gets being unable to communicate kills me because I know he has so much to say
The "connection:...is that its all genetic. Angelman Syndrome is caused from a microdelection on chromosome 15, its usually passed on from the mother. Sometimes the father doesn't pass on his chromosome 15, so then its caused by the fathers contribution. autism can be caused from deletions or duplications in 15, 16,17, or 7. Apraxia is often causes from a microdeletion from chromosome 17. So I'd say get some genetic counseling and I am sure you will find out which of the chromosomes are affected in your children.
I don't want to compare your child to mine. Only to give you hope that one day with hard work she maybe one of the ones that when she is a lot older and that you are giving her the tools to help her she could get to a point speech is no longer a problem. It does happen for some so just hold onto the fact it will get better how much you just don't know but like with all kids with all your doing and help you get her we just don't know how great her speech will be. My girl worked on speech all the way through school till high school but you wouldn't even know she had a problem now as a adult.
This could be an interesting idea to ask a geneticist. It might be a little convoluted, so bear with me.
Maybe you have a micro-deletion on chromosome 15. Meaning, chromosome 15 has a small area of genes missing. When you passed it down to Sawyer and Lindy, the deleted area resulted in autism and apraxia. BUT in the case of Griffin, instead of the deleted area remaining “empty”, Will’s genes filled in the area instead, resulting in UPD Angelman’s.
Anyway, I’m sorry if any of that came out wrong. I’m not a doctor, so take it with a grain of salt. Your family is beautiful, and I wish all of you the best. If you decide to do genetic testing in the future, I hope these questions can help you narrow down answers.

I just want to let you know about the GAPS protocol - 3 of my kids, my niece, and myself all have dyspraxia /apraxia of speech.
We didn't know what it was until my youngest as he is/was the most severe.
He had severe oral and verbal dyspraxia, mild to moderate global dyspraxia, selective mutism - he also has/had SPD, toe walking, neurological NKD.
After being in therapy from the age of 2 - he only had 3 words at 5.5 years old - mum, no, and my, some animal sounds, some self invented sign, and we used picture communication. When he was 5.5 his speechy sat me down and said it's time, we need to integrate him into the deaf community to lessen his risk of suicide when he reaches his teens... Yep lots of crying.
My son refused to learn auslan - I had heard of the GAPS protocol before, but I just didn't see how it could possibly work - but now I was desperate.
I'm not gonna lie - the first week was utter hell, my son had major food aversions and starved himself for 3 days - but on the 3rd day I put curry powder, lemon juice and fresh coriander in the bone broth and we were on our way to recovery.
Within the first week or 2 he started putting 3 and 4 word sentences together, he stopped toe walking, he started making eye contact, his SPD and other neurological issues all greatly improved - at 9.5 he is a chatterbox, people often ask me what his accent is.
Sounds like all your kids you mentioned in this talk would greatly benefit from at least going through first phase GAPS - we didn't do the whole protocol, we done the first (horrible) phase followed by a peleo, keto, meat based diet.

I have Apraxia. Yes they can learn how to read and write, Apraxia only affects the Connect from Brain and Mouth. But It's super common to have other disabilities with Apraxia that can affect their learning ability.
I think it might but I'm not sure because I am only 11 and don't have a disability. I just like learning about irregular disabilities and therapies.
So glad you finally have a diagnosis. Now we can pray that the right therapies will help her progress. Question: Is sign language an alternative way of communicating?

@@joanncarr740 There is actually a lot of People who have Apraxia of Speech who learned sign language when they were still learning how to talk.
@@joanncarr740 that is not true at all, actually. Sign language use doesn't slow down learning to speak verbally in kids with speech delays. Actually it helps them to learn sooner and helps hugely with their confidence and behaviour. Imagine not being able to communicate,and how much frustration that would cause For a child. Sign language is an amazing tool to help while verbal speech isn't ready, and to help kids understand the basics of language which can be applied to Sign and speech, so it helps them when their brain is ready for verbal speech too.
Unfortunately it's an out dated idea that Sign language is bad for deaf kids, or kids with speech difficulties and it's now been proven how beneficial it is for them and doesn't slow down verbal speech. Sign can also help neuro typical babies too, and boosts their communication and language skills also !

Yes the words are THEIR but the sounds do not come out right in. The song no words to the song just rhymes to the sound like humming. Understand. What she as. Yes soo glad you are where you live at soo sad you had to move out of state to get the help your kids needed. I am sure you have heared of a child. Falling thru the CRACKS. JUST MEETING THE GUIDE LINES SO YOUR CHILD ONLY GETS SOOO MUCH HELP. AND THAT REALLY STINKS. SO GLAD YOU MOVED. BUT SOME PEOPLE CAN NOT MOVE OUT OF STATE NO MONEY NO JOBS TO MOVE TO SOOO ALOT OF THESE KIDS TOTALY DO WITHOUT THE HELP WHERE. I LIVE I WOULD BE AFRAID TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO THESE KIDS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. God chose you and Will to have special children because he knew y'all would be able to give them the attention and love and help they need. That's why God chose you as their mom.
