Hey John, do you have a video that shows what it is like to work in a fast-paced opticial such as Costco optical? Where volume is the main benchmark.

No video on it. Great question. Having worked at one of the busiest Lenscrafters stores on the east coast for years I know how you feel. There is something to learning how to "work the floor" or managing 2, 3 customers at a time. As long as you are standing you can usually do it. Once seated with a customer it should be focused 1:1 time. Of course learning to "read" the customer helps. Using your optician spidey-sense. Learning when it is OK to say, "I'm going to let you look for a minute - set anything you like here - I'm going to grab Mr. Smith's glasses for him and be right back." Sadly you simply must do what corporate tells you to do so not much room for any creativity on your part. Keep in mind that within reason all that corporate BS is just bluffing to keep pushing you.* Last thought would be make sure you aren't projecting anything - glasses are crazy expensive but don't apologize or make comments or internalize it. If the that frame and lens is $679 just say that is $679. If corporate says you must offer a 2nd pair offer the second pair - they can always say "yes" or "no."
*The worst performing Costco optical is still a working Costco optical year after year.

Mr. John, have you ever heard of or seen the following in your professional travels and experience ----- low compatibility of polycarbonate lenses with standard plasticizing Cellulose Acetate is known. In fact, the plasticizer used tends to migrate into the lens, making it opalescent and reducing its mechanical resistance.----- Have you ever seen a polycarbonate lens become foggy and clouded from being set into a standard cellulose acetate frame?

I have not. Literally billions with a b of people wearing or have worn that combination (heck might be trillions with a t by now). Never seen it, never heard of it. And heaven knows I've seen hundreds of thousands of frames and lenses some of them 30+ years old. Not arguing with you. Not disagreeing that it is a possibility. You asked if I have seen it and the answer is no. John

@@LaramyKOptical Thanks for the quick response, sir! I saw the above in some marketing material (for a material claiming not to be standard acetate) and figured if it was a common problem, it would be very well-known in the industry (and John would have certainly seen/ dealt with it)!

How can I calculate the rate of magnification changing related to the changing of distance from my eye to my PC screen?

There is a book Ophthalmic Dispensing by Brooks & Borish that, if I recall correctly, has some kind of formula for figuring that out. Now why you would ever do that in a million years is beyond me - just trial frame things until you find what works. And that might just mean a 0.25/0.50 flipper, holding up some uncut lenses, OTC readers or an actual trial frame and that would depend on the individual. I suppose the other way of looking at it is it has to be a number between 1 and 3 since (99%) of add powers run from 1 to 3. Maybe I'm missing something in your question? John
