This game is one of those gems that I always return to. I'll buy any DLC, I support any decision to get more money with a publisher or whatever. As long as the dev gets the bag and the game gets more love I'm happy. Very few games out there deserve that trust, but this guy has earned it.
"You deserve honesty. Most of you anyway." You're an absolute legend. Love all the progress, support and work. RIP the awful microphone of yesteryear - it still lives in my heart.
@@mythug0 omg thanks! I totally forgot, it's already in my steam wish list. I just got off a five month of gaming abstinence due to work. Now picking up games again.
@@MrArthoz welcome :) while not as polished as the others on the list it's already a lot of fun ;) ps. sounds like now you could use five months of work abstinence due to gaming :D
Hardworking, honest, witty, love to hear from you and i am debating whether to jump in now and try the update or wait for 1.0. Will definitely check on release, at the latest.
Oh good trees no longer fully block projectiles. It felt odd that playing Tilapi, who are great archers and live in forests, and my chief enemy were the trees on my own land blocking all fire. Well done! This game is amazing!
Kudos on making an amazing game! I really sunk my teeth in in v66 and I think you're focused on exactly the right things - the vibe, the original world, and the rewarding prestige as mentioned are all there and a more finely balanced challenge for progressing through the game sounds like exactly what it needs to go from great to greater.
Looks amazing, I'm saving my next big play through for release to get that algorithm going. One thing I found interesting is your definition of a game. Although it may be accurate, the thing I've enjoyed most from Songs of Syx, and what I haven't really got from other games is how alive the city is. I don't really chase long term objectives. But more it's like a fish tank, watching the citizens lives and how they interact, adding additional features e.g central justice square with courts. It's hard to explain but for me the enjoyment is more holistic than more mechanical goal orientated approach. Without wanting to be pretentious, the cities feel alive and to me it's closer to an interactive story than a game, in a sense. Game mechanics drive the story forward.
That is what I would call the prestige! But I need an effort from you before you get it (play hours). I wouldn't say games should aim at having a lot of playing hours, but there needs to be a balance there, the bigger the prestige, the more play hours can be demanded. The more play hours, the better the prestige. Also the steam algo demands play hours, so there's that too.
These are great changes and I love having discovered this game years ago. It has been a great journey. Beware publishers, I have seen good games get bad due to loss of control and the original driving vision.
Thank you for the update. I got songs of syx early. An man it's grown into an amazing game. Can't wait to see where it goes from here. I have over 400 ish hrs in the game so far
"All in Good Time." Well played ^_^ I've been looking forward to this for a while. Congratulations on attaining this huge milestone! I finally pulled the trigger on the EA version a couple of months ago after trying two or three different demo versions, and I'm glad I did! A price increase at full release is perfectly normal, and the extra five bucks is more than reasonable.
A fantastic update and a very good feature highlight video! Clear, concise and to the point. You really outdone yourself and improved a lot compared to your previous videos!
Due to sleeping and work i'll never play SoS as long as i'd like to, nor will i ever likely play it well as i don't like doing cheese builds or looking up specific strats, i love the game to pieces, it's truly an art piece.
I was literally checking yesterday if you had released a dev log and I missed it. Glad you got one today 👍 thank you for your hard work and great game. I love it.
I am proud to have supported this game and love your approach to early access. I didn't think about it at the time, but your idea to keep the previous patch free as a demo, with an option to opt into early access to get the current version was genius. I tried the demo, was totally overwhelmed but intrigued and knew there was magic in here. I still have yet to have a save that I would call successful but its been a lot of fun, and my wife loves it as well! I will give this patch a proper try, but really am looking forward to 1.0! Good luck and hope it works out how you want!
The optional challenge system is very appreciated! Sometimes you want to focus on some niche thing you are doing and having to drop that for a mandatory challenge that happens constantly would be super frustrating and there's no prestige there because it becomes a chore and not an achievement.
I'm excited to see this game leave early access! I haven't played for a few versions since you've been making some pretty big changes and I've been waiting for better overall balance. It sounds like you're on the right track. Best wishes!
I think your game is great. Last time i played i thought to myself damn this game is hard but i want to succeed. I am very glad i found this hidden gem.
I have been itching to pick up SoS again, but I've held back in hopes of a patch, and here it is! Thank you for this great game, and I hope your exit from early access is a smashing success!
I first bought this game a few years ago, I absolutely loved it, especially seeing a merchant arrive in my city, pick up some stuff I was selling, and carry them across the world until a town bought them! I confess, I had some unrealistic expectations for a while, although maybe my unrealistic expectations really do happen "under the hood" but not very visible to the player. That's not a criticism, I absolutely adore how this game developed, very well done!
Another amazing update! Definitely get a publisher to advertise the game, it deserves way more recognition than it currently has. Perhaps Hooded Horse would be a good fit? They're known for supporting solo devs
I'm happy to see 1.0 on the horizon and love watching all the small but numerous changes over the years shape the game into something really special. 3:00 This might make all cities look and feel very similar in the end game. I'm not personally a fan of artificial limitations of placement like that in city builders. I'm just imagining a convoy full of ore traveling across the map, going by all my smelters, and dumping its cargo at the throne only for it all to be hauled back across the town to where it originally passed from. It sounds kind of goofy to me. I'm also worried it could lead to player frustration when someone ends up building a bunch of buildings by the throne only to find out that they need to destroy them in order to fit in import depots. Plus what happens if you decide to move the throne? All the import depots just quit working? If you already thought of all of this and think it will still work out I'm willing to wait and see and give it a try.
Without it, import depots are an exploit, and you will be equally forced to place them by said industries to get free logistics. The most realistic solution I can think of is to restrict them to the edge of the map, alternatively let you choose a spot yourself. The former is going to me more enfuriating I think, and the latter too fiddly. You already have sort of a marker at hand - the throne. There is where the action happens. I don't think it will look bad, except if I forced you to actually touch the throne. This would be you "trade hub", which I don't think is particularly unrealistic or un-immersive. You don't get point-to-point deliveries when trading IRL. They get delivered to big caches, then distributed at the country's cost to the points they are needed.
Yup yup, it makes sense. I first was someone who pirated the game to test it out. I already bought it now, and I'm forever happy with everything that has been developed 😊😊😊
I'm so glad it's not a permadeath game. Though you can get into a spiral sometimes. It doesn't feel like it punishes you for not being a rapid expansionist.
Really looking forward to 1.0 release. Also, because it means that my "learning curve" can finally stabilize, i.e. when I learn "how to do things" I don't have to "unlearn" it with the next version. I've deliberately not played the game for a while - and am looing forward to pick it up at 1.0 then! Great game.
A paid naval expansion pack. Beach head assaults, privateers/pirates, blockades, naval battles, naval sieges and siege engine boats. Admirals. Soldier class expansion pack generals which increase morale slightly, cohort leaders who may give lesser morale bonuses to that of generals through accumulated combat experience to their ”legion”. Legion Veterancy for soldiers which could increase the training speed slightly for replacement soldiers. Now I got to admit, I have not played this game for a long time, so I’m not too sure what’s already in the game as of now. And whatever else you would like to add into warfare. Even if these are bad ideas or you have thought about them before, I’m still saying them out loud, because ideas never hurt in projects, who knows, you might grab an idea from here and improve and expand it.
Amazing! can't wait to try this out! Would it be possible to update it on Gog too? On linux we are stuck at v66 :( Can't access the channels since galaxy isn't supported and Lutris can't fetch a more recent since they are not on the GOG list.
That is a shame, it is available through the galaxy. Isn't there a api perhaps that lets you download it? I don't feel it's best to overwrite the current stable version though (V66). It's the same as steam. Let's hope V68 isn't too buggy.

I agree that the game should be £30, it's absolutely fucking insane what you've accomplished here on your own. And on your point on DLC, i would happily purchase any "cash grabby" DLC you offer
For europeans and americans 30$ is not much, but for CIS region it's a lot of money. I myself bought this game for 3000 KZT (6 USD). It was pretty affordable back then. Now it's 6400 KZT, which is even less affordable. Further price increase would definitely lead to piracy.
