The disrespect he faces on social media and by some 'fans' is crazy. He is a sporting and British icon. And for me is the best ever.
@@domasa732 Believe me it does. If a sport inherently only has white drivers whether that was the cause of financial or traditional reasons, it makes it so much harder for a driver of mixed or black descent to rise through the ranks. It's even more precisely the case in F1 where you can't compete if you don't have money either through your family or sponsors. Albon for example, had to go though his Thai links to keep on competing otherwise he was done for. Sorry but being white in motorsport just allows you to blend in much better unfortunately
Domas - in an ideal world you would be correct but in the real world racism exists in every society. The U.K. where F1 is based is 85% white and while a very diverse and tolerant country he has suffered racism and prejudice. It’s not debatable, it is fact. He is an amazing talent. The shocking thing is that he has been that way since he was 6 years old with hardly any drop off apart from the normal emotional growing pains in his early 20s when it was time to grow up and move on from McLaren.
Seeing this makes me pretty emotional, I mean I started watching formula 1 in the early 2000s but this kid really got me hooked since 2007. Although he missed out by one point in the first year I couldn't help myself but believe this guy has something very special. It makes me proud to see how far he has come. Even through the hard years at mclaren after 2008 i always believed in him that he could claim the top. Even when he struggeld and he seemed lost. He never failed to pull something extraordinary out of the bag like Nürburgring 2011, Hungary 2013, Monza Quali 2017, Hockenheim 2018, Singapur Quali 2018 or the race last weekend only to mention a few. For me he is the greatest ever and he will forever be my childhood hero.
People sometimes level the criticism against Lewis that his responses ring false and "PR-generated" (as if taking care with what you say and who it will effect when you have a very public position is a bad thing). Watching this interview, you can see the exact same themes he always returns to: gratitude, loyalty, achievement, effort, learning. I dunno, maybe his personality is just like that?
It's bittersweet to see this now, to see him mention Nico Rosberg, to see him laugh at the prospect of being a 7 time world champion, to see him smile and say he'd be happy with just one after everything we know now. He raced with Nico, beat him twice. He almost won that only one title he expected to win in his rookie year, won it in his 2nd yea, won at least 1 race every season since he's been in F1. Won 7 world titles. We're witnessing history in the making, let's appreciate this guy a bit more.
His character and his driving have been consistent. In this video his demeanor and appreciation for everything is the same as today. You’d have to go out of your way to dislike him.

The fact that he could be talking about winning the WDC and how many time he might do it - with a straight face - and the interviewer keeping a straight face, tells you all you need to know about how much respect people had for him as a driver even when he was just in GP2 ...
His accent got slightly Americanized but the boy turned into a man and he’s fully deserving to be up there with the GOATs of the sport. No one better than the other. He is the best we’ve seen in the last decade
Because he said people don't understand him when he speaks around the world. He has been around the world and lived elsewhere for a long time. I've lost my strong cockney accent living for years elsewhere in the UK. At times picking up a regional twang. It's not unheard of as a young adult.
its normal to lose your accent when you start spending your time more in different parts of the world and speaking with people with different accents themselves.
So much to learn from Hamilton here, listening to him now after all that happened, I can now really understand why he did not criticized Mercedes or abusive about his treatment. He knew and remembered all that happened on his way up. This was an interview before the F1 era. Man you can pretty much understand the mind set. Well done Sir Lewis Hamilton. Go for the 8th.
Watching this and seeing the love he had for McLaren and all they did for him it must have been tough to walk away and go to a fledgling team like Mercedes. Arguably that's the best career move he could have made, but as he says, timing is everything.
"I don't know whether it will be possible for me to win seven world championships." Little did we all know, that light hearted comment would become a prophecy.
For all the idots who think it's just the car, look at where a regular driver like Bottas finished with a car that's not on pace and where Lewis Hamilton finished with a car that's not on pace in Turkey.
Anyone who thinks it’s just the car did not see Lewis at mclaren. He definitely would’ve won 2012 against *that red bull* if his car didn’t break down every race, same for 2010

This is so inspirational. It makes my heart happy.
i'm so amazed at all he has achieved... i really hope he wins this weekend and gets his 8th 🙏🏾💜
Well, to think he’d go on to win 6 more than he had hoped!
This mans achievements is near unimaginable keep fighting lewis
What a legend!
Really great that we are able to watch those interviews back from his GP2 days.
EPIC PRODUCTION... WELL DONE! THE HISTORY BOOKS WILL GIVE YOU THE RESPECT YOU DESERVE LEWIS!
Lewis 2006 : i'd be happy with 1 title..
2020 : hold my gifts..🎁🎁🎁🎁
I find it amazing how little he's changed in 15 years
It's gotta be one of the coolest feelings in the world knowing you supported one of the greatest in the world. All those guys on the pitwall cheering get to say to their children and family that they had the pleasure of taking part in this legacy. A team sport indeed
What a legend, what a champion. No wonder he´s achieved so much. He had highs, he had lows, he kept going and getting better, that´s why he keeps improving on pace, consistency, lack of mistakes. Congrats Hamilton on your 7th world title.
What a man, congrats Lewis. He just keeps working hard in the moment and everything falls into place because of that. A true champ 🏆
Someone give this man a seat. For next season.
Lol! He has potential....
Honestly it's been an absolute pleasure watching one of the greatest if not THE greatest. Never stop Lewis... Keep it going... Keep it up!
Wow this Lewis guy looks Like a great talent, I hope he wins a championship
He went beyond 7world titles, use your power to influence people, care and help people that needs, that’s how Lewis will transcend as a driver and person
Dedicating that 7th world title to all the kids out there who have dreams..... He is an absolute inspiration.... One of the best of all time
This made me tear up. He has come a long way…
"IDK if id be possible for me to win 7 world championships, Id just be happy with one. Will have to wait and see"
Always been full of class since 2006. Sir Lewis, the greatest ever to do it in F1 👏
Without the story you wouldn't understand!!! That emotional feeling!!! Hamilton is the best ever
This young guy has the potential of winning some titles. I see him getting around 1-2 in his career and that's a lot.
Lol! Fingers crossed!🤞🏾🤣
But to be real for a moment, two world titles are a lot.
Häkkinen has two
Such a genuinely humble decent man...who deserves all his achievements and more, no matter what anyone says!! *goat* 💯🙏💪
"i dont know if it will be possible for me to win 7 World Championships" Now that's some motivation for everyone to believe in your dreams.. Goosebumps
Lewis hamilton is the best driver. 7 world champion
The fact that he could be talking about winning the WDC and how many time he might do it - with a straight face - and the interviewer keeping a straight face, tells you all you need to know about how much respect people had for him as a driver even when he was just in GP2 ...

i bet he's taken Stewart off his list, the old geezer is such a hater
Well Stewart is backing him for knighthood, so I wouldn't entirely call him a hater.
Kindly define the word "hater" and name one instance where Stewart has behaved like one towards Hamilton.
@@burnere633 literally said he only won cuz of the Merc

@@mumlehoved yeah but he always throws jabs at Lewis, been doing it for years
He speaks with such a maturity for his age at that time. It is impressive to say the least. Arguably one the greatest sportsman of our time.
@@Kiluei Understandably so
i hope he will win an f1 gp, or even a championship
Nah I think he will flop in f1
😂😂😂😂You are saying this now.
Let's see if he even gets to f1

4:57 - See that Jackie? He’s giving you props in 2006, and still it’s hard for you to do the same, beyond the generic.
Just because someone likes you, doesnt mean you have to like them.
Who is here after magnificient 100th win! thats just bonkers how much he achieved in this sport. way to go
Haha he’s gonna get number 8 next year too. Get in there Lewis! What a once in a lifetime talent. Not just in motorsport but in all of sport.
Lewis 2006: it's crazy to think in 1 or 2 years i'll be in Formula 1...
Lewis 2008: World Champion. What. A. Man. What. A. Champion.
Senna is very happy watching you!!! Congrats Lewis!
Watching this and seeing the love he had for McLaren and all they did for him it must have been tough to walk away and go to a fledgling team like Mercedes. Arguably that's the best career move he could have made, but as he says, timing is everything.
so proud of you, since your amazing comeback in Istanbul 2006 to your 7th title in Istanbul 2020 I've never doubt your talent
"I don't know whether it will be possible for me to win seven world championships."
Little did we all know, that light hearted comment would become a prophecy.
I have never believed that racism on Formel 1 ,Hamilton is an amazing driver and what has it with his skin color.Umbelively ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤love him
He looks like he could be a world champion one day
Maybe even a double

@@blackgirlsrock264 maybe even 6 if he gets lucky
This aged beautifully. He'd be happy with 1 title...per year
For all the idots who think it's just the car, look at where a regular driver like Bottas finished with a car that's not on pace and where Lewis Hamilton finished with a car that's not on pace in Turkey.
Anyone who thinks it’s just the car did not see Lewis at mclaren. He definitely would’ve won 2012 against *that red bull* if his car didn’t break down every race, same for 2010
I've watched formula 1 since 1976. This lad is the greatest driver of all time. I've seen most of the established names race. What your witnessing here in your lifetime will be talked about as long as motorsports exists. Enjoy it.
