I've been playing E:D for about 9 months and I bought my Anaconda about a month ago. For PvE zones, mining and cargo runs, it's been a champ at all of them. For exploring, I prefer one of my Kraits or Python (easier landing and finding level land for SRVs), but you can do it easily in an Anaconda. It's my second favorite ship (Python is #1).

For me, exploration would be the DBX (Dimondback explorer), mainly because I already have the FSD engineered to grade 4 increased range and the guardian FSD booster but the anaconda is a really goofy ship for everything, I used to have one but now I have specific ships for different tasks

My laser mining conda has 4 double engineered class 1 mining lasers and 3 regular class 2 mining lasers and drains the rock long before it drains the (fully engineered) distributor. I can swap the internals for 320 tons and 10 limpets, or 208 tons and 16 limpets (which includes the class 7 multi limpet controller, so I can also repair and refuel friends who are out mining with me) - It's very versatile and the fastest miner out there... If you have a fleet carrier or go mining with someone who has one, it's an absolute dream of a ship.

My Conda is set up with 2 mining lasers, about to be 3 and a total of 5 collector limpits from 2 controllers. I get 320 cargo for the extra 50 platinum at 230k per unit.
I might try your laser set up though, currently I also have the core mining capacity too for when I stumble upon one. I seem to be getting better at spotting them by shape.

The "Conda" is a good ship for mining.. If u are a new player and want to buy it, just A-rate the powerplant and distibutor and engineer the fsd. Just with 4 lasers and 9 limpits and 256 cargo and no shield (because it was a shield or docking comp en i dont like docking, and i mine in solo only). u will keep your limpits busy and in one pull u will empty the rock u mine. And when full u wil have decent jumprange to get to the station of your choice for selling the goods, because we all know if u sell at a FC u wont get any progress on the trade rank to unlock Jameson Memorial.. So yes, the Conda is a good ship, even un-engineerd it wil do good.. :)

I'm not so sure that "just a rate the powerplant and distributor and engineer the FSD" is quite as simple for a new conda owner as you make it out to be. That is ~207 mil extra plus a fair bit of materials cost just for the powerplant, distro, and FSD (if you don't a rate the FSD when you engineer it, what's the point). I know it sounds kinda a waste if you're experienced, but you'll probably get your money back faster with D, C, or B rated modules in enough places that you aren't likely to kill yourself (A rate the FSD if you can first), then fit for cargo and run a couple of whatever takes your fancy until you have the hundreds of mil it takes to properly outfit this ship

Thought this would be a good place to posit this:
I took my recently bought fleet carrier out on its first real cruise out to Colonia, while out there the mission was to gain access to the handful of engineers who reside there. One specifically requests a nominal quantity of osmium for said access. Being out on the frontier, it isn't hard at all to find only the most pristine of conditions, some completely untouched, making mining a breeze compared to what's left in the bubble. I was just doing crap laser mining -- you get out there with a deep core setup and a fleet carrier, you'll be the ruler of all you survey -- with the added benefit of having no NPC's coming around sticking their noses in your business. Anarchy rules, but no one is within 100's of light years. I had to quickly return to the bubble when I learned I had more engineers to open back in bubble-space, but once that has been rectified, I'm heading back out to virgin territory. Once you get that fleet carrier, you'll be big-timing it, might and day difference.
So, for me, it's a crash course in deep core as that's where the real loot is made. So -- You're right: Mining is where it's at. I'm an elite v trader, and elite I explorer, so it's time to expand the portfolio...

    • @lootandgrind

@@lootandgrind I heard you when you say you want to take your time getting a FC, and I'm not trying to ruin your flow but I am telling you -- you'll really enhance your mining ops with a carrier. Everything you need is there plus you can set up your own markets. be your own store. The galaxy is the limit, the possibilities / playability is limitless.
Stocks in and around the bubble are depleted. Get out there where nobody has been, and minerals are in abundance. I cannot stress this aspect enough. Much faster and more efficient. Tritium was everywhere once I knew where to look.
You planted the mining seed in my head, so if I can motivate you to obtain your carrier then I feel good on that end.
So get crack'n, mate. See you out there.

I loved using my Type-10 for mining. Because the front of the ship is so flat I never clipped asteroids. Id haul 500 tons of ore back when deep core mining was not nerfed. I haven’t mined since. I loved that it was a slow ship to manoeuvre it made it easy to launch the charges and align my ship. Now I use it for exploration,

Back in 2019 and I just started playing Elite, core mining for void opals was the fastest way to make credits. I was popping asteroids with my asp explorer. That's how I got the credits for my first Anaconda. Both are great ships. Later, when core mining was nerfed, I moved on to laser mining Low Temperature Diamonds in a Cutter. I ended up earning 20 billion in two or three months in the "Borann days"". From there, I went back to a T9 and then a Python for shorter runs when the Fleet Carriers came out. I haven't mined in about a year. Wing mining missions for buyable commodities is my end game way of making max credits per hour/day/week. Mostly now a days I farm Odyssey mats and data with my ten alts... 😵‍💫

My mining ship is an Asp Explorer and I haven't flown it for years, I never caught the mining bug and it's still not my thing. My Anaconda is a passenger ship that on average makes about 7 million for a 7 minute trip, on the odd occasion I get jobs for 15 or 25 million (to the Eriva system to Cottenot Hub) but they are more rare and usually take 20 to 30 minutes.
I've got two Pythons as well (one for passengers, one for goods) that seem super fast after getting out of my Anaconda or Cutter.

I use an Imperial Cutter for laser mining and a Alliance Challenger for Core mining. Both have do well at mining and have enough offense/defense to take on most any NPC pirates with no issues. The Cutter has enough cargo space to collect quite a bit (576 tons) and fully A rated has a price tag of 600M cr and when Painite mining was extremely profitable I made enough using it in a week to buy a fleet carrier. The Challenger can hold about 5 asteroids worth of materials and cost 152M cr fully A rated (mining high end minerals I can earn 45M cr in one trip for 1 hour of mining). I tried using an Anaconda for mining but the long nose made it difficult to maneuver well (stripped it down for extreme jump distance / exploration). I also have 2 other Cutters, one for combat (920M cr cost) and another for cargo / passenger hauling (675M cr) both A rated.

If you're a serious explorer, it's absolutely worth it. But, as you noted, the Anaconda shares a similar pedigree to the Python, and if you configure it well, you can enjoy just as much variety of use with as you can the Python. I live in the Colonia region, so the Python fits better as a mining vessel because it only requires a medium pad. I could easily and cheaply outfit my Anaconda to take on that role if I needed the serious cargo capacity and knew I'd have access to key large pads. But, for me, the Anaconda is my go-to for deep space exploration (the Orca is my second).

I gotta say, as good as it is, I have a ship I prefer more for each role it fills. Mining? I enjoy blasting away with a Corvette more. Exploration? Krait MkII or Dolphin before, Mandalay now. Combat? Corvette. Trading? Cutter. Piracy? Vette or cutter. I suppose if I needed to jump far while having lots of cargo space, I'd use it.

Its only real drawback is its lack of speed. But it is worth every credit but have closer to a billion on the buy as to outfit her properly out of the box. I initially bought mine for exploration, but makes a good surface mini-base for long operations.
The Anaconda is the logical step up from Python, which is a step up from the Cobra III -- That's the Falcon DeLacey way.

@@lootandgrind As you said, it's all down to preference.
I sold my Cobra / Python and opted for the Viper III - IV / Krait Phantom to rank up the combat line. I had mine outfitted for armed cargo, but the speed of my Krait sidelined "Monty" -- although I do miss her flexibility, both Cobra and Python are from the earlier "FD" designs. In my playthrough, we sort of modernized the fleet so to speak, so both were axed.
They may get a re-visit at some point.

My Anaconda is still extremely useful and it helped me buy my Cutter.

Good job on the presentation L&G!
Python is also my favorite "small" mining ship. If you want to load up in a couple of hours its great with around 225 tons of cargo space. This is ideal when you can go to your target system via fleet carrier and so don't have to make many jumps to unload your treasure. However without a fleet carrier large capacity is king. If you're going to mine at great distance, like outside the bubble, the larger capacity makes the effort far more worthwhile. For me, the first "big" miner was they Type 9 heavy with about 700 tons capacity. That ship is everything but nimble, however with some practice and patience it is an excellent long range miner. That said, the much more "fun" big miner is the Imperial Cutter. With about 640 tons capacity (for my build) the cutter is scary fast, and very maneuverable for a big ship. Even Having the fleet carrier to whisk me to my favorite mining spots outside the bubble, I've quit using the Type 9 for mining and only use the Python or Cutter instead. I now just use the Type 9 for hauling treasure from the FC to the point of sale once in the system where I want to sell it. If in a system where a little more security is needed a non-mining armed Cutter works well. For me the Fleet Carrier makes all the difference for mining efficiency because I can load up thousands of tons of treasure, unmolested outside the bubble, then get back to the selling system with only a couple of jumps.
I do have an Anaconda, but find that it's really not much better than the Python for carrying capacity and thus for mining, although it does have more hard points. I seldom use it because it is so thoroughly out classed by the much faster Cutters.

@@lootandgrind Hi L&G! Another thing I forgot to mention above is that fueling the fleet carrier is not a problem for a miner. Tritium is nearly ubiquitous in icy rings and you get enough of it without even trying. I've had my FC, Bartertown, since the day after FCs became available and have never yet needed to buy any Tritium. Also the FC maintenance that sounds so expensive before you get the carrier turns out to be insignificant when you can easily pick up a couple of billion credits from a single week-long mining adventure. :-)

Combat? Extremely Deadly, engineer shields and some shield cell banks and you might not even take hull damage
Trading? Lots of cargo room and very much able to fight off any pirate and good jump range
Mining? plenty of cargo room for many limpet's and a few extra hardpoints for self-defense
exploring? being able to get insane jump ranges over 50LY's and over 100LY if supercharged but it being quite a large ship, 150+ meters long and 60+ meters wide, landing can be tricky, but the jump range in my opinion makes up for it
Is it worth getting? my opinion, if you can afford the credits, yes
i have yet to be killed in my anaconda by another commander or NPC, my only death was i messed up supercharging and got too close to the star and ended up stuck in a jet cone
