I just bought my wife the Acura TL over the weekend and she loves it.we wouldn't drive anything else but a Acura or a Honda. Her accord has 200,000 miles on it and still rolling.Been in the Honda Acura family all my life.Beautiful cars
Glad we could help, you could get a great deal on both right now. The TL will feel more familiar to you, it will have a roomier cabin, smoother engine and transmission, and a more sophisticated AWD system. The G37x will be sportier to drive, have slightly quicker acceleration, but will also feel less refined and more harsh in terms of engine refinement and ride quality. Both cars generally will hold their value at the same rate. Test drive both and decide which works best for you :)
7 years later, and I am looking at a 2012-2014 AWD TL. Completely clean carfax. The refresh actually happened in 2012. It has 129,000 with factory remote start, drives smooth, would you recommend it after that amount of mileage? My budget is tight, but i prefer the luxury feel of this car over anything i've driven recently
The 2010 TL is governor limited to 130 mph. However, "top speed", "quick", and "fast" are 3 different terms. What has to be realized is that 80 mph achieved with a economy 4 cylinder and a V-8 equipped with a supercharger is still 80 mph. How each vehicle achieved the 80 mph is the differential. Also, a lesser power economy engine can make the difference between getting out of potentially difficult situation such as merging into freeway traffic from a tricky, short ramp, with a old person driving a vehicle right in front of you but not using enough merge speed and thereby creating a hazard for you. You NEED power to get OUT of this situation! There are many other scenarios that I can think of. Also, during NASCAR conversations on talk shows, this will occasionally come up.
Actually the 2010 shawd manual is the fastest production car Acura made besides the nsx. 5.2 0-60 and I’ve hit 138 before it cut out in mine and it was stick when I did that.
I had the 2010 6 Speed Manual Tech SH-AWD in Mayan Brown with the Milano Umber Leather package. List: $43,195.00. I bought it brand new. A rare vehicle that no one seemed to want. It sat on the dealer lot all summer that year just gathering dust. I bought it on December 1st of that year. I paid it off in 6 years. A 16 year old boy driving a Ford F150, fell asleep behind the wheel and hit Jeep Grand Cherokee and then he traveled more than an 8th of a mile and hit my vehicle while I was at a dead stop. All Three vehicles were totaled. No injuries. This was at the time, on an engineering level, the most powerful vehicle ever released by Acura. The suspension was a Double Wishbone setup four shock absorbers at the corners. Because the engine was rated at 305 hp, it actually had more hp than the RL model from which it was taken. My replacement car, a red 2019 TLX A-Spec SH-AWD ASR has a smaller engine with only 290 hp. I lost some other things too like the -doppler weather radar map; -soft leather padding on the doors (there is leather, just not soft padding); -the (tactile) buttons on the center stack vs. the new touch screen to replace. (You wind up taking your eyes off the road for too long to operate the Infotainment system); -the actual shift lever ( The v-6 TLX gives you silly , non sporty appearance push buttons, that would be more at home in a straight luxury car, not a sport-luxury sedan); -rear seat storage pockets on the doors; -the inability to change the color of the touch screen. (At least the 2014-2017 TLX gave you that ability; my 2019 doesn't). -better stopping power and bigger front and rear rotors. (When my 2010 TL was involved in that crash that totaled it, it had over 94,000 miles on it and I had never had to have the brakes serviced); -quad exhaust finishers that were actually attached to the tail pipes. ( The new duel ones aren't and is becoming the industry standard); -better sculpted front seats, so good that they were also used in the RL after the TL was replaced by the TLX; -As I mentioned earlier shock absorbers on all fours. The TLX uses the lesser-thought-of engineering McPherson Strut set up on the front wheels. (Why does Acura try to do what BMW does because the critics say they have too? ) The bottom line is, Acura needs to set its own better standard. They should not worry about the what he critics say. That's why they're so messed up and confused now. Trying to satisfy everyone but themselves. Its a shame they have loss direction and that Hyandai & Kia have gained the foothold they have on them.
I have the same exact car 6spd. manual in silver color and I am still loving it till this day. I love everything about this underrated car! The only upgrade I've done is air intake and a sprint booster. What a difference it made and drives like a beast. It's the closest thing I'll ever drive to a first gen NSX .
I have this same setup. Got it used about 3 years ago. Best car decision I've ever made. No issues with this car and the driving experience is a joy every single time.
We were referring to the Japanese sport sedan class. If you look at only the Infiniti G and Lexus IS, the TL is the most spacious. The Lexus is more refined but very cramped, the infiniti is the most sporty but unrefined and isn't as roomy as the TL. We like the balance the Acura gives between just those two.
I agree! I like the look of it both inside & out better than the new TLX. My co-worker has a white 2012 TL & I always like to stare at it every time I walk past it.
I just got this car a few months ago. I got it during the winter so I dealt with some bad snowstorms here in PA. The AWD handled the snow perfectly. I was driving by jeeps , trucks that were stuck. Great car !
I love this car it’s one of my favs. I got to chance to own a black on black one with the advanced package. Acura definitely gives the customer their best bang for their buck.
I tend to agree. I loved the 2009 TL, including the exaggerated beak. I was actually sorry to see Acura cave to critics when they toned it down. But it still looks good to me, and one of my favorite designs in the class, still.
I have the exact same Black Acura TL ,2013. Enjoyed the car as a single guy Enjoyed the car as a married couple with no kids. Now that we are expecting a baby , our plan is to trade in the TL for some kind of SUV. This car has been great to me. Purchased CPO in 2015. Looks slick and the 3.7 engine is awesome.
You bring up a good point, but you have to keep in mind that while the new Accord offers similar tech and power, in the end you still have an Accord. Name brand is very important to luxury car shoppers, the Acura name alone with the better warranty and dealer service will keep shoppers going with the TL. Right now, Acura dealers are willing to discount the car far more than an Accord and when the next generation comes out, it should differentiate the cars even more.
This car is smooth as hell!!! I test drove a 2010 model and it was like riding on air! I can't buy one right now due to financial reasons but it will definitely be my next car. Thanks for this informative video, I will be checking out your other car reviews also. I have become obsessed with this vehicle in the past 3 weeks. Acura is a good brand of cars.
Well, if you are referring to the 07-08 model, they are only FWD and are down about 20 hp to this car. Although, we still love the looks of that model. In terms of speed, the new one is slightly quicker and the tech in this model is far superior. Both are great cars.
The SHO is much larger and has more power. The TL will be much more nimble in terms of handling but in terms of straight line speed, they are even if you have a 6MT TL. The SHO will be faster than the 6AT TL. Honestly, they are two completely different cars, one is a real sport luxury sedan while the other is a modified full size family sedan.
I have a 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD w/ Advanced and I love it. Best bang for your buck although I wish it had more power at lower RPMs. That's when I use the paddle shifters to drop to a lower gear for power.
This reviewer is the best. He knows cars and it shows in his videos. I think the 4th generation TL is gorgeous but I own a 2013 TSX wagon that I absolutely love. A much less expensive vehicle to buy, operate, and maintain with 99% of the awesome qualities of the TL. And in some ways a better car for me as it is still a blast to drive with Honda’s awesome VTEC 4 cylinder and paddle shifters!
The first Acura to get the new adaptive cruise control with low speed follow is the RLX, we will demonstrate that feature when we test vehicle this spring.
This $46,000 TL today cost about $42,000 after discounts, that same $43,000 G37 is about $38,000 now after discounts. The G37 is definitely cheaper, you made a fine choice with choosing it. What sold the TL to this customer was the blind spot information (BSI), which the G37 didn't offer.
Lol the 3G fanboys really have this mentality that the 3G is the be all end all of Acura TLs. Yeah the styling was much nicer and refined but this newer Acura is still the best driving on the bunch.
This is the exact car I'm looking for now. Was looking for a 2013-2017 Accord coupe V6/manual but when I found out this TL could be had with awd and a manual, I had a new winner.
lots of bang for your buck. lots of car, bold looks, resale, a nice big engine and some of the best AWD in the business starting in the low 40's. these are EVERYWHERE where i live lol. i went to chili's for dinner last night and there was literally a line of these TL's out front
Subaru's AWD system isn't torque vectoring. It may have superior all weather traction but in terms of handling, Acura's is superior. Audi's Quattro is similar to Acura's system and it could be as good if not better but we'd need to drive the two back to back.
The 19" wheels on this Advance model really stiffen the ride. The AWD model does have slightly stiffer suspension tuning so the FWD model will ride much softer than this car. Test drive both models and decide which car rides better to your taste :)
once again great review bro i like how you tells us what your feelings on a car are vs your car "tech" opion it gives us a better idea of how a car is on paper vs in the real world with real people driving it.
AWD is automatic and typically sends power to the front wheels until they slip, then sends power to the rear wheels only when the front wheels lose traction. 4WD is typically rear drive first, sending power to the front wheels when the back ones lose grip. 4WD also has different modes like high and low for off-road conditions. It's heavier and more complex dropping the MPG and affecting handling.
I feel the same way but you'll love the car when you drive it! I still can't believe it's taking them so long to find a better look. It's sad to see such a nice car get destroyed by something so superficial.
We almost bought that combination but it had too many miles for our liking. Settled on a white w/tan interior instead. Love this car. A real joy to drive.
I had this exact 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD and after 7 months of ownership traded in for a new Infiniti G37 sport/awd. I had two unresolved problems with Acura TL: one with the constant annoying rattle in the moon roof assembly and the engine/transmission while in reverse and backing up into my slightly inclined driveway the engine what always stumble down and sometimes caught off. After three times in the dealer service department both problems were unresolved after being told they were fixed.
Exactly what happened to me...I drive a 2010 AWD 6sp Manual TL. I didnt care for the looks when I bought it but it grew on me. That stick shifts like better and the car is pretty powerful.
Go drive one. I never look at my car when I'm driving it, I prefer the drive over everything else. If you don't like it after giving it the beans, then by all means you've earned that, but don't put it down without a fair chance. You never know what might grow on you.
We agree with you completely, there is still a reason why the Germans sell the way they do. If you can swing the extra cost initially and in the long run, you will get one incredible driving machine.
We agree with you, it's a silly omission on Acura's part but they have that system on the MDX and RLX so you bet the next TL will have it. The customer who bought this TL doesn't drive much on the highway so the adaptive cruise wasn't a big deal for her. Again, every customer has different needs and taste :)
That is simply not true. The current model has taken the TL to a new level - more upscale, edgier, and better performance. Have you driven one? I drove a 2012 TL SH-AWD Elite pkg and it blew me away. I would easily take a TL over a 3 Series
Something I find crazy is that the sh awd models can be found for cheaper than a 3rd gen Type S. Considering replacing my 2004 TL and not sure which way to go
AWD makes a huge difference especially when wet. The type S driver will be spinning his/her wheels while the SH-AWD model takes off like the ground is dry.
I love this car. If I could change one thing, I would bring back that the big prominent grill. It was prominent and strong looking. Compared to German cars, this car offers more for the price.
See; I gotta agree with you on that! That grill was much better looking than the on found on the 2012-14 TL. Overall, the re-vamped 2012-2014 TL, of which looked too soft when compared to 2009-2011. Not only did the front end get soft, but so did the rear end: the tail end had smaller tail lamps, smaller reflectors, one set (only) of tail pipe finishers vs. the quad tips that were standard on the 2009-2011 TL Tech. Also, Acura added a flat, boxy plastic, non color matched piece between the exhaust tip finishers; an item that can only best described as a diffuser, displayed ugliness and no imagination by the body design team. To my recollection, the 2012-2014 was 6 inches shorter than the 2009-2011, mostly due to the grill change. To make the car look not not as “stocky” the designers decided to make tail lamps smaller and smaller tips exhaust. Cheap.
lol, I was just thinking that they should've used black thread. As the car gets old, that light color is going to fade, and it will do it to differing degrees throughout the car. I imagine that won't look so nice.
Hey, Sofyan! Love your videos, but I was wondering why you still play the intro music while you are talking up until about @2:30? It's a little distracting, but it doesn't take away a lot from the overall video. Great review, btw!
A TL series that isn't a S-Type HAS to prove it's worth more than the S-Type. 2008 Acura TL Type-S was the SHIT and still is. Hard to beat a new classic like that.
The Uber successful Do you even know what the SH stands for???? You are talking about two different trim levels that you're trying to compare the type S stands for the high performance Division versus the SH-AWD models which stand for Super Handling All-Wheel Drive
@@ajevthetruthisthetruthnotc8390 See by you saying that can tell that you know nothing about cars saying a V6 Camry which is front-wheel-drive against a car that has all wheel drive come on now dude you should know better than that! also the Acura has more horsepower with a 6 speed trans v6 Camry Lacks horsepower and back than wasn't a 6-speed so therefore the Acura would smoke the V6 Camry! And even now the acura's are still better than a Camry because they don't have that CVT crap in them
What's weird is this car is in the class of the A4, 3 series, etc but we own one and they are way bigger let me add. Bigger in the inside and out. And yes that honda Acura 3.7 will catch you by surprise.
If it all goes well, I should be upgrading from a 2005 Lexus ES330, to a 2013 Acura TL. Man, it is a quick, and fun car, and I’d like to smartly modify it. I’d like a nice CarPlay solution, and to do a partial wrap on the grille, hood, roof, and rear deck.
Yes, my 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD would stumble down and often times cut off in reverse on a slightly graded driveway. In terms of ride the Infiniti G with the performance sport package which includes the stiffer suspension and 18" rims rear based awd drive train. If you want a smoother ride chose the non sport/performance 17" rims or set all air pressure to 32 p.s.i . cold pressure. Also the Infiniti G37 has more standard horsepower than 3.7 liter Acura TL. Infiniti has 328hp 0-60 in 5.3 seconds.
Sorry to say but you are wrong. Acura had the best AWD system and still does. They have some of the best interiors for its time and was the first to come with technology before others. The 04-08 tl sold like hotcakes. The new one due to design only didnt so well but it had the tech, and refinement to kill the competition. The newer 12-13 look much better and the sales have improved.
This car seems just as fast as the G37 to me except it revs higher and the engine is smoother and louder too. I like Nissan/Infinitis but this is an under rated car. I don't agree that the G37 is slower then this car is. I just watched his review on the G37 and these cars seem very similar to me in performance and according to performance times they are equal. It would be a hard choice between the two.
Max Thompson Drives better? That Honda V Tech is a good performing engine, granted the Nissan VQ V6 was once for a long time considered one of the best engines made but I can't picture Nissan beating Honda.
@@TWHISPERER It all depends on a person's preference Honda / Acura make some nice Vehicles so does Nissan / infinity me personally I like Nissan / infinity better than Honda / Acura I have owned 4 vehicles from Nissan / Infiniti 2008 infiniti g35 sedan 2011 infiniti g37s coupe 2015 nissan 370z touring Sport Edition And now 2017 infiniti q50 3.0t red sport 400 And I never had any problems out of my vehicles! This is the exact car I'm looking for now. Was looking for a 2013-2017 Accord coupe V6/manual but when I found out this TL could be had with awd and a manual, I had a new winner.
Don't let the opinions of other people sway you that much, go and drive one for yourself and decide if it works for you before making a decision.
This tl was ahead of its time I like it its better then the tlx
I get so excited every time I see a new video from you Sofyan. Every morning, I watch your new videos while I eat breakfast. hehe.
lots of bang for your buck. lots of car, bold looks, resale, a nice big engine and some of the best AWD in the business starting in the low 40's. these are EVERYWHERE where i live lol. i went to chili's for dinner last night and there was literally a line of these TL's out front
from 09 to 14 both bodies was 🔥🔥
Subaru's AWD system isn't torque vectoring.
True I have the 19 inch trims with shawd the ride is stiff, but on open interstate high speed its really good.
once again great review bro i like how you tells us what your feelings on a car are vs your car "tech" opion it gives us a better idea of how a car is on paper vs in the real world with real people driving it.
I'm gonna buy a black 2012 this weekend with the Umber saddle brown/orange interior SH-AWD
Post a video!
We almost bought that combination but it had too many miles for our liking. Settled on a white w/tan interior instead. Love this car. A real joy to drive.
How much
I had this exact 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD and after 7 months of ownership traded in for a new Infiniti G37 sport/awd.
I found 2014 with 6 speed manual 35k mikes, if I sell my truck I’ll be buying it
Love that Honda J Motor!

I just bought a 2011 with 48000 miles I plan on keeping it 3 to 4 years I absolutely love it feels very manly as well I'm very happy with my purchase
great job in these reviews man, keep it up!
You're confusing it with the TL, the TL-Tech adds push-button ignition. The TSX does not offer it in the states.
aw man I love the contrast stitch they put in the car
Crazy how this is going to be my first car lol, been working super hard recently and got a crazy good price from a family friend.
brendon garcia what year? how many miles & how much?
It does, only the TSX special edition offers it.
I really like the 2004-2008 Acura TL, the 2009-2014 and the 1999-2003 Acura TLs are decent looking.
I love the side mirrors. It's one of the most sporty side mirror I've even seen.
That's correct, but the 4 cyl TSX is much better balanced vs the nose heavy V6 model. If you want the V6 6MT, you can buy it as a TL
That is simply not true. The current model has taken the TL to a new level - more upscale, edgier, and better performance. Have you driven one? I drove a 2012 TL SH-AWD Elite pkg and it blew me away. I would easily take a TL over a 3 Series
I'm buying one this summer. Going to retire my 98 accord
Fell in love with this car when I found out about it hoping to buy a used one later this year
The TSX is not available with push-to-start in the U.S.
I love the Acura TL AWD and the Acura TSX. I'm on the hunt for a TL AWD hard to find anymore
why?
Something I find crazy is that the sh awd models can be found for cheaper than a 3rd gen Type S. Considering replacing my 2004 TL and not sure which way to go
4gn tl is the best I love it I wish i got the advance package 2012 instead of the 2011 😔
AWD makes a huge difference especially when wet. The type S driver will be spinning his/her wheels while the SH-AWD model takes off like the ground is dry.
Oh that V6!!! It's so so amazing.
Good comparison. Makes me think about which model I would get when I get a new car.
How much is one of these now? I love this more than the TLX
You are correct and it's faster
I just got one 2012 certified with 34k miles and I paid about $28k way more power and engaging to drive than a TLX
+Ken S Totally agree
+Ken S Nice! One of my Co-workers bought the same car earlier this year for the same price & miles as yours. Nice cars.
agree I'd rather have a used tl than a new tlx
Hey, Sofyan! Love your videos, but I was wondering why you still play the intro music while you are talking up until about @2:30? It's a little distracting, but it doesn't take away a lot from the overall video. Great review, btw!
A TL series that isn't a S-Type HAS to prove it's worth more than the S-Type. 2008 Acura TL Type-S was the SHIT and still is. Hard to beat a new classic like that.
2 things better about the 4th gen, SHAWD with the 6spd manual
SH-AWD Is better than Type S all day especially driving wise.
The Uber successful
Do you even know what the SH stands for????
You are talking about two different trim levels that you're trying to compare the type S stands for the high performance Division versus the SH-AWD models which stand for Super Handling All-Wheel Drive
@@andre26261095 type S may mean higher performance but barely faster than a v6 Camry at the time if not faster.
@@ajevthetruthisthetruthnotc8390
See by you saying that can tell that you know nothing about cars saying a V6 Camry which is front-wheel-drive against a car that has all wheel drive come on now dude you should know better than that! also the Acura has more horsepower with a 6 speed trans v6 Camry Lacks horsepower and back than wasn't a 6-speed so therefore the Acura would smoke the V6 Camry! And even now the acura's are still better than a Camry because they don't have that CVT crap in them
this was a very good review, its very hard to be as detailed as you are and not be so gosh darn annoying but you sir pulled it off. Thanks
What's weird is this car is in the class of the A4, 3 series, etc but we own one and they are way bigger let me add. Bigger in the inside and out. And yes that honda Acura 3.7 will catch you by surprise.
Absolutely love this car! Great review, Sofyan!
The old look was much better!
This is something my grandpa would love!
I’m buying this car I’m excited
Yes, my 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD would stumble down and often times cut off in reverse on a slightly graded driveway. In terms of ride the Infiniti G with the performance sport package which includes the stiffer suspension and 18" rims rear based awd drive train. If you want a smoother ride chose the non sport/performance 17" rims or set all air pressure to 32 p.s.i . cold pressure. Also the Infiniti G37 has more standard horsepower than 3.7 liter Acura TL. Infiniti has 328hp 0-60 in 5.3 seconds.
Wow it’s crazy how at 8:50 I see Franconia road sign Thomas Edison high school is on the left and this is in Springfield 🤯🤯
Oh wow I used to go there
The amount of times this guy whistles when he talks is genuinely crazy 😂
Sorry to say but you are wrong. Acura had the best AWD system and still does. They have some of the best interiors for its time and was the first to come with technology before others. The 04-08 tl sold like hotcakes. The new one due to design only didnt so well but it had the tech, and refinement to kill the competition. The newer 12-13 look much better and the sales have improved.
It's now a super good deal on used market car! I love mine & I have paid 10K$ with 107k km Elite sh-awd now at 127k km no issue
The interior of this car still seems very nice and for being that old I give acura props. If I had the money I would choose the acura over the rest.
I love that sound engine
I still have my 2011 acura tl and I love it to death
how many miles on it now? I have an 2009 and love it too
This car seems just as fast as the G37 to me except it revs higher and the engine is smoother and louder too.
Max Thompson Do you mean drives better as in the G37 handles better? It handles better then Acura's SH-AWD system??
+John Vu g37 is definitely faster but TL is a lot smoother. feels like a faster accord which is not a bad thing.
@@TWHISPERER
It all depends on a person's preference Honda / Acura make some nice Vehicles so does Nissan / infinity me personally I like Nissan / infinity better than Honda / Acura
I have owned 4 vehicles from Nissan / Infiniti
2008 infiniti g35 sedan
2011 infiniti g37s coupe
2015 nissan 370z touring Sport Edition
And now 2017 infiniti q50 3.0t red sport 400
And I never had any problems out of my vehicles!
So there is no saying that Honda / Acura can beat Nissan / Infiniti
They both are very reliable
I would definitely pick a Nissan GTR over a Acura NSX any day!!
@@killerkhalsa27
the G37 is more on the sporty side it does have the Nissan 370Z motor in it which is pretty fast I used to own both of them now I have 2017 q50 3.0t red sport 400
Great review.
this is a great car, hopefully the new tlx is even better. great review as always
When this car came out I was in college couldn’t afford it but now I got a tlx but this was my favourite
I had the 03 TL types s in college
We'd love to drive one, it's kind of a rare find on Acura lots however. The next new Acura we plan to film will be the RLX
U make great reviews. Can u make one for an acura TL type S . 07-08
Amazing review. Great help in my debate between the 6spd g37 sport sedan vs 6spd shawd tl.
Yea in the higher trim levels they can be had with Acura's "ELS" sound system.
I got the 2008 TL and 2013 TL I had to have both 😂
Which one u like better
Thanks bud, you may have saved me a bunch of cash from buying another car! I love everything about the car but I'm not a fan of the stiff ride, I will definitely give your suggestion a try...
