2013 front-wheel drive TL owner here (bought new). I’m at 208,000 miles. So I just finished my second 100k service and I plan to push it to 300k if I manage to not wreck it. The only non-maintenance work I’ve had to do is replace the belt tensioner at 175k. The serpentine belt would squeal and we could not solve it any other way. So fantastic reliability, still handles and accelerates like new. One notable issue is the brake rotors. They warp very quickly. Which turns to a vibration during braking when hot (long drives). I have had to replace them at every brake pad change, which to me means that they are undersized.
Otherwise, this car has been a fantastic daily driver for a guy that drives a lot.

2009 Acura TL standard edition 5speed auto bought used at 150 K miles. Turned 280,00 miles recently. As a former BMW driver 5 series these cars have a really noisy interior and don't come anywhere close to a Bimmer's driving experience. That being said my TL is reliable and competent in all conditions. Car gets an average of 29 MPG and is mostly driven on the highway. I drive about 300 plus miles weekly; I've changed one wheel bearing because it started making a grinding noisy. I just installed front and rear struts, made a world of difference. The timing belt had about 100, 000 miles on it, it looked and felt brand new, probably could have gone another 80K I would think. I replaced the water pump all belts and pulleys and had the plugs replaced. I did replace the front motor mount ($80) and this car is ready for another 100 K miles. I use a high mileage oil, car uses zero oil between changes (18 -20K miles). The only additions to stock were I changed the low beams from HID to LED (Forsh Krieges 10K lumen ) I can really see the road now without blinding oncoming traffic. Perfect.

I bought a black 2012 TL AWD base model in late 2013. Car had 99,000 miles on it. Picked it up for about $19,000. Body was like new. Engine still ran smooth like new even with all those miles (and burned no oil). I kept it a few years but due to finacial situation I sold and always regretted it. Just recently I came across a 2014 exact same color and trim with 75,000 miles on it. This time I was able to pay cash staight up and I am LOVING being back in a TL again. I forgot how much I enjoyed the power and sound of that 3.7, especially after driving a 4cyl beater car for the last 6 years. I've put less than 1,000 miles on it, so not sure if it's an oil burner yet. So far it's still at top of the range on the stick so it is looking promising at this point. Only thing I really don't like about this gen is WHY didn't they make the rear seats fold down?? Basically every car has this! But they give you that little tiny pass through lol. Also for some reason there is a few spots on the roof and trunk where the clear coat is failing. I think maybe someone got some sort of solvent on it possibly. I will have it repainted if it comes down to it I guess. But overall this car is my favorite out of all the cars I've owned. It even beats out my WRX I had. And when cleaned up and polished, the black paint with the chrome moldings looks so fine. One other thing to mention about this gen, I love how clean the engine bay looks when all the garnishes are installed. Seriously the most sexy engine bay I've ever seen lol.

As the owner of a 2012 Triple Black with a 6-speed manual, for nearly a decade (purchased it Certified Pre-Owned), I can attest that these are great cars. The steering feel might not be quite as nimble as a BMW 5-Series, but with SH-AWD, the big girl will still handle On Ramps extremely well. Plus the repair bills are a fraction of the cost of the Bimmer! Don’t ask me how I know!!! The interior is not quite Lexus ES 350 quiet, but she isn’t as loud as an Infiniti G37. And with a good hand wash, polish, and wax, she still turns heads when I go to the store or just when getting fuel. If Honda/ Acura was smart, they would have offered a Type-S trim, with say 400hp, and I dare say it would be a rival to the king of uber sedans: The E39 M-5!! A mild supercharger on that 3.7L engine would give it good low-end grunt and an extra 95 hp would be wonderful!! I can only dream!

I bought the 2012 front wheel drive version new. I still have the car, and it's been generally very good. The engine and drive train have been totally reliable. I recently had the 100,000 mile maintenance done, and it should be good for many more miles. I do have one issue that displeases me with the car. There is an intermittent failure of the radio, in which the radio either will not come on when I start the car or will not restart if I turn the radio off and then try to turn it back on again. Several days later, it works just fine again and may go on with no problem for months at a time. This problem does not seem to be related to weather, time of year, time of day, recent use of the car or any other common reason that I have identified. Still, it is a great car to drive, and it is the daily transportation for my wife and I.

Beat the snot out of it, hitting redline each gear first year I got it lol. 224k now but damn does it take a beating. I just bought a acura TL 2014 with a little over 100,000 miles at $12,000. the American car market sucks right now. after purchase I got a new timing belt kit because It was over 100,000 miles and is recommended, inspection done at acura dealer and the only thing wrong was the brakes and tires having normal wear and tear. I absolutely love this vehicle and going from a beat up 2009 ford taurus with 263 HP up to 280hp on the special edition TL. it is an amazing car and wont be going back.I love the leather seats and how nice the interior is. the paddle shifters feel engaging but the motor mounts have seen better days. the transmission feels smooth but a touch of the pedal and it jerks a little bit. This leads me to believe the trans mounts or motor mounts have seen better days. looking to get it all settled in the next month and I'm confident it will be a much more smoother ride.

It did look a little odd from certain angles but overall, it was a very pleasant car to drive. The interior room was just about perfect. I replaced it with a '16 TLX Advance that I also loved. The TLX rode better and was a bit quieter but it did lose some of the athleticism of the previous generation. Currently have a '21 Accord Touring 2.0T and this car is truly amazing. People don't realize how good that 2.0T engine actually is.

I own a silver 2013 6 speed manual SH-AWD, with the tech package. I bought it new and put 120,000 miles on it so far. It's relatively fast, handles really well (with a set of summer performance tires), is comfortable, and with a set of snow tires is amazingly good in snow and ice. The SH-AWD system is exceptional (in sporting and inclement conditions) and you can really feel the torque vectoring rear differential when driving in a spirited manner around corners or freeway entrance ramps. A few things to note: on my car the ENTIRE transmission was replaced at 69k miles right before the drivetrain warranty expired. I brought it in to the dealer for a slight transmission whine noise present in 6th gear at highway speed and to my surprise the factory rep authorized an entire new manual transmission. I'm still on the original clutch (no, I didn't have it replaced when the transmission was but should have - shame on me), and i'm just starting to feel like the engagement is getting high up in the pedal travel. At 75k miles one of the lobes of the rear camshaft eroded and the engine developed a loud ticking sound. The repair was NOT covered by warranty. The car uses about 1 quart of oil for every 3k miles. I suspect the cam failure may have resulted from me not keeping up with the oil consumption. I'm considering running a thicker oil to reduce consumption. These J37 motors are strong and sounds great but excessive oil consumption is a common issue (there was a class action law suit, I believe). I recommend the car to anyone as it drives so well and so forth, but watch out for loud ticking and excessive transmission whine on the manual transmissions. I plan on keeping mine indefinitely since it's a configuration (manual transmission, AWD, sedan) that is not sold anymore.

I have a 2009 TL Tech - it's running super strong and only has 130K. Had it for 10 years, I'm the 2nd owner and I bought this car after I got hit in my old Chevy Tahoe and the TL is a beast. It's not as heavy of course but feels to be almost as long. Gas mileage isn't the best, especially because I do mostly city driving (17mpg) but I used to drive from LA to SF on 3/4 tank so freeway isn't too bad. Unbeknownst to me, it already had a cracked rear deck and rattly subwoofer when I bought it, but the service advisor who discovered that never fixed it or even noted it on my records so I had to pay to fix that on my own. That's everything negative I have to say about it. I love this car, I can't quit it. When I look at replacing, I absolutely have looked at almost all of those vehicles that Acura said it competes with, because it has a lot of features and a very comfortable cabin. I really don’t feel like anything is enough of an upgrade to be worth what they cost. I just decided to put some money into the TL and keep pushing it for another 130K.

    • @adrianjayy
      @adrianjayy Рік тому +1

@@seslik17 I never truly fixed it. right now I have the rear deck wrapped in Dynamat which really helps to reduce the rattling a lot to where I can actually turn the sub back on. The dealer fix now costs $1500, the OEM kit to fix it is $900 alone. I believe it’s TSB 13-007 that is the actual Acura sanctioned repair involving cutting a chunk out of the rear deck and then bolting on a new thicker piece of metal. For cheap fixes there’s JB Weld like you’ve done, Dynamat like I’ve done, stuffing foam or cloth in the gap, or even removing the trunk lid weight. I guess it depends exactly how it’s cracked as for which fixes might work.

Miss my manual 2012 TL SHAWD!
Couple of things to note on the manual:
    1. The manual comes in closer to 3800 pounds, with a 55/45 weight distribution.
    2. Good luck getting EPA MPG ratings, high gearing in the manual causes it to suffer. I had a consistent 17 mpg average. Any amount of city driving makes this thing drink gas. Highway is good for 25 mpg though.
    3. Good launch and shifting gets you in the low 5’s for 0-60 mph sprint. Not far off from the current TLX Type S. A couple of mods and you’re basically in Type S territory. Really emphasizes the lack of performance of the Type S.
    4. Good luck finding a manual, let alone one with less than 50k miles! These things are extremely rare… I wish I knew the production numbers but if I had to guess there probably wasn’t more than 3000 made over 4 years.

I’m holding onto my 2012 TL MT6 until she stops running. So far it’s been the best car I’ve owned

2014 TL Sh-AWD Tech. Has 300k on the clock and still runs like a new car! Just wish it was a 6 speed manual.

I bought my 2009 Acura TL in 2019 and I owned it almost 2 years, then I bought my 2012 sh-awd TL in 2021 and I've owned it almost 2 years... only to say this, I am absolutely convinced of Acura's overall superiority for the price, and you get what you pay for. The lowest maintenance vehicle I've ever owned... my A6 Audi nor my 325i (the grey market model) BMW didn't have anything on the Acura TL. I love the sh-awd model, now I need to learn how to effectively use the padel shifters. Did I mention the aero dynamics of this car... I love my car and enjoy getting in it for a driving experience like no other. I can't wait to get my next Acura TL in the next year
