I was so surprised that she bought a 6MT, because shes almost 70, lol! Im IN LOVE WITH THE CAR! I look for excuses just to drive it. Im VERY surprised by how well the car has held up as a whole. The previous owner had thorough service records, most of which at an Acura dealership. There is 1 bad rattle that occurs in/on the rear package tray when a song with a lot of bass plays(Ill fix it in 2 weeks), but other than that, there are ZERO squeaks or creeks with the chassis, body or rest of the interior. I replaced the pcv valve, cleared the headlight lenses, changed the oil & filter, changed the transfer case fluid, changed the MTF, changed the rear diff fluid, installed Acura logo puddle lights, fixed the roll-top like center console cupholder cover, fixed the rear seat armrest cupholder door, fixed a rear seat headrest release button, repaired a few tears on the inside bolsters of both front seats, replaced 2 interior door pull handles that were scratched, and I installed some interior led footwell lights. Now the car is in almost "like new" condition, lol. I honestly think that its a really good looking car as well; its white btw.

Matt you should have waited to review the manual. A 6MT with that SH-AWD is a unique, even magical driving experience. Unfortunately the J37 drank oil with the manual. The dealer bought mine back after multiple times in the shop.
Yes indeed the J37a4 paired with the 6MT burned a crazy amount of oil! Thank goodness my local dealer replaced the pistons and rings under a goodwill warranty which resolved the issue 🙏🏼 truly an under rated car and incredible driving experience
@StanEscobar Rough. It's sorta like that here in Miami. I may check out one tomorrow for 4.3k. 130k miles. I'll offer 3k LOL. It needs cosmetic work. Anyway, a 2012 Fusion for 6k? Not bad at all. Cars a car.
I think modern car styling has really made the power plenum grille age better than I expected it to. These cars had some pretty big shoes to fill from the previous gen but they still seem like a decent buy, especially with today's pricing.
I owned both second and 3rd generation TLs. Both great cars. The 4th generation was really a sales disaster. Sales dropped over 50% compared to the 3rd generation sales figures. I remember an Acura sales acquaintance saying of the 2009 TL: “How the hell are we supposed to sell this?”
I’ve had my 2012 fwd tech package for about 3 months and it is insanely jumpy. Other than that and the leaking trunk it drives great. About to go see a 2012 SHAWD 6 speed manual.
It's hard to argue with the instant torque of a naturally aspirated 3.7L v6. Even though the 0-60 numbers are probably lower than something like a 2012 wrx, the instant torque will still make it feel faster in day to day driving. And when you compare this to modern 2.0L turbo cars, those things make you wait for almost an entire second before building enough boost for the first part of the turbo to kick in at 1500rpm, it's an awful experience and terrible when you're changing lanes on the freeway in traffic.
Not to mention you have all the reliability of these normal port injected engines. These TL's do have timing belts but the VQ engines in the g35/g37 don't. You also don't have the extra failure point of the oil filter housing mixing coolant and oil which is common on modern cars also (I think all german cars now and newer fords have this terrible design).
My Mom actually just bought one of these a few months ago. Its a 2012 SHAWD 6MT with 125,000mi, and honestly, its friggin awesome! I love driving it and find myself looking for things to do or places to go, just so I can drive it, using the excuse that it gets better mpgs than my suv, lol. One thing, eventhough this has a V6, it still has the same characteristics as Honda 4 cylinders, meaning if you wanna move, you gotta rev it out. For a V6, it doesnt have much low rpm torque to me, but I like that, because it gives an excuse to rev the shit out of it, lol.... If you drive it hard/rev high, it will probably burn about 1 to 1.5qts of oil between oil changes.... I really like the SHAWD system too, when doing a u-turn, if you are aggressive with the throttle, the rear end "slides" around nicely.
yea it’ll last you years make sure it’s been maintained main thing timing belt. also check the coolant fluid it should b blue. obviously drive test it check suspension. I paid 7k for mines with 120k and it came with a XLR8 catback.. you can offer 7500-8k cash and most likely walk away with it.
Crazy to think that the previous Gen TLX with that 3.5L V6 has less horsepower than this TL. I mean 305 HP is still a healthy amount of power even to this day. Even the 3.5L V6 when this TL came out with 280 HP was still a very good amount of power for the FWD model, and with the FWD model being lighter, 280 HP is perfect for that time.
Nevermind, just got to the part where it's more A4 than G37... power wise though, that C&D 5.2 to 60 is a unicorn time you don't ever see with today's used TLs. My '13 G37xS sedan still clocks in at 5.4, 5.5, 5.6 depending on outside temp and all I have going on is a Q300 exhaust and drop in aFe filters.
Like someone else posted.. If you do 2 oil changes each year regardless of K & change the PVC valve each 40k like I do, It doesn't really matter how much oil it consumes. It should always be clean and close enough to full to prevent engine problems. Of course pull the dipstick, check & top up every 3 months.
Weird the current gen TLX is about the same size but has a smaller seat. One thing that worries about going with the SHAWD is the 3.7 which has oil burning problem cause by a design defect. Probably why Honda stopped using it.😁
@@TheBreakfastLoverbut I wish the TLX was able to justify its size and weight gain. This is something I looked forward that it will have similar dimensions as the 4th gen TL.

I bought the RDX with modifying it on my mind. The engine is pretty much a de-tuned version of a Civic Type R. If 2.0T accords with bolt on’s and upgraded turbos can achieve 400+whp I’m sure it’s the same story for the RDX as well.
@@davidvang763 I hear ya.. I'm 57 and drive a modded 2013 TL Shawd. 3.7L Getting a little old to keep doing that so getting ready ready to pay the bucks for GV70 tt. All the best.
Man Pittsburgh looks great this time of year
Yeah, noticed the changing leaves on those hilly roads! Looks beautiful.
I love mine! Great review!
Hell yeah I love the retro car reviews
Glad you like them!
Matt you should have waited to review the manual. A 6MT with that SH-AWD is a unique, even magical driving experience.
Unfortunately the J37 drank oil with the manual. The dealer bought mine back after multiple times in the shop.
Which model year did you had?
Yes indeed the J37a4 paired with the 6MT burned a crazy amount of oil! Thank goodness my local dealer replaced the pistons and rings under a goodwill warranty which resolved the issue 🙏🏼 truly an under rated car and incredible driving experience
Crazy that this video dropped today. I'm cross shopping 2013 G37 and TL rn
Perfect timing, hope the video helped a bit!
@MattMaranMotoring always boss! These used car reviews are so valuable in this overinflated car market!
@@StanEscobarDid you get either car?
@JamarD421 lol no I wish. They were way overpriced on the market, I got a 2012 Ford Fusion for $6K
@StanEscobar Rough. It's sorta like that here in Miami. I may check out one tomorrow for 4.3k. 130k miles. I'll offer 3k LOL. It needs cosmetic work. Anyway, a 2012 Fusion for 6k? Not bad at all. Cars a car.
Great review sir!
Thanks!
Underrated in manual trim
I think modern car styling has really made the power plenum grille age better than I expected it to. These cars had some pretty big shoes to fill from the previous gen but they still seem like a decent buy, especially with today's pricing.
I agree, and yeah it's funny how what was once considered terrible styling is pretty tame these days haha.
Honda V6's always sound great!
I will argue that Honda makes some of the best V6 engines ever. Their J series V6 is legendary and are just a blessing to listen to.
@@TonyKimtheamusementparkfanJ35/37 ain’t nothin to play with
@@TonyKimtheamusementparkfan Not a bad opinion. I think it's up there with the 2GR-FSE. Really close though
These TLs are like a more sporty Camry of that era, exterior looks wise
One of the best stock sleepers out there
Thing does not feel like 3900 lbs… handling is great and it’s quick.
@@TopDrumCorps bro for real, I’m buying a new one. Have a 09 to fwd tech. Looking for 2014 shawd a spec with brown seats
I’ve had my 2012 fwd tech package for about 3 months and it is insanely jumpy. Other than that and the leaking trunk it drives great. About to go see a 2012 SHAWD 6 speed manual.
I have a 2013 SHAWD 6MT. Wild car.
My first car and i miss it sometimes!
the best Acura ever made
currently looking at a 2012 sh-awd w tech, it’s $9k with 130k miles. should i find one with less miles or should this one last me a few years
yea it’ll last you years make sure it’s been maintained main thing timing belt. also check the coolant fluid it should b blue. obviously drive test it check suspension. I paid 7k for mines with 120k and it came with a XLR8 catback.. you can offer 7500-8k cash and most likely walk away with it.
I personally think that the TL of then was the only Acura that could rock the Beak pretty well.
Great car, minus the transmission issues.
I love my car it’s blacked out now led lights inside and custom exhaust tune and more coming soon I love it
I have a 2012 automatic transmission love the car wish I could find a manual transmission version but never have seen one for sale 😢😢
I love these!!
Thanks for stopping by Bern!
Omg I Own with tech complete tricked out one 12 years Love it❤❤❤❤ have had Acura 24 yrs now also has
So Matt, how does it compare to the 2012 G37x sedan you reviewed previously? 😎
Still prefer the 2010 body over the 2012 refresh. Still, both amazing cars
Lol I totally forgot about vtec.. super nostalgic
Oh cool, I had one of these, great car aside from a few transmission issues
Thanks for sharing your ownership experience!
I had this exact car in Silver. I should have purchased the 6 speed manual.
Does anyone know how loud cabin noise is? I know he stated 3db lower but what does that equate to?
Make a video of 2007 Infiniti G35 sport
I definitely would like to review the sedan if I can ever find one, but many years ago I did do the G35 coupe: ua-cam.com/video/BC2ZcmN2nwA/v-deo.html
Do a review of ILX 2016+, you have a review for ILX 2012, but it differs a lot.
I definitely want to review one, I just haven't been able to get my hands on one yet.
I really like the video i am buying this car because its really reliable also i like style of them
I didn’t know I had the technology package till now
Looking to pick one up for. My 16 year old daughters first car they are over engineered super reliable
Great first car!
That poor beak condemned it. However, like you said, I do think it’s aging well.
Never understood how Honda specs their cars. Awd cars should come with the Technology package standard.
Was that a little muffler crackle too at 12:14?! 😂
TL 🐐🔥🔥🔥🔥
Who everowned 2012+ TL with 3.7 v6. How bad is the oil consumption issue?
No oil consumption issues. That’s also like the best problem to have with a car. Just top off oil every few thousand
Probably why Honda stopped using it.😁
True, but I don't think it's that weird. The current TLX has a long dash-to-axle ratio while the 4G TL has more traditional FWD proportions.
@@TheBreakfastLoverbut I wish the TLX was able to justify its size and weight gain. This is something I looked forward that it will have similar dimensions as the 4th gen TL.
Hey Matt I have a mint 2”11 335 e90 xdrive with msport package 95k miles would make for a great retro review it’s totally stock except for a s1 mhd I can back out for your review totally stock -
I loved that massively beaked grill compared to the facelift... Facelift looked too rounded and curvy.
prefer the one before the facelift
Please please please do a Q50 S Hybrid!! You will not be disappointed!
They seem pretty rare but I definitely be up for it if I ever come across one!
🔥🔥🔥
These are ok but I’m a little disappointed by the equipment specs on them.. not bad just wish it was a little better
My dad has this. 150+k miles and running like new
That's great to hear!
2008 TL type S manual transmission going for $20k with low mileage
Aged well
Review a 2010-2011 Saab 9-5 Aero
Please check for oil consumption! This is past the recall so it's on you. $10K fix.
nice car
Oh shit this isnt even a tech package car. You would know by not having a lip spoiler. Funk all that, the tech package is necessary.
Was looking for a manual transmission one. Great on paper, expect the engines burnt oil from the showroom floor 💩💩💩
🙂👍
Would have loved it if you reviewed a manual version
It’s a drives so much better
This car throws down the power
