Lufthansa 747-8i Missed Approach Turns Into Beautiful Landing @ KPAE

- Due to dense fog covering half of the runway, this brand new Boeing 747-8i Lufthansa D-ABYL cuts through it with a missed approach and returns to the other end of the runway a few minutes later to softly put the aircraft on the ground.
Filmed: 1-26-2014 KPAE Paine Field in Everett, WA USA.
So love the design of the B747.... I flew the -100 , -200, -300 and the -400 as a flight attendant for many years.... It's just simply a beautiful aircraft. No other aircraft types can beat its beauty in the skies....
Why would anyone give this a thumbs down? Beautiful and stunning machine! What a majestic thing she is!
She looks stunningly beautiful in the sky! And the landing is perfect!👌
Always wanted to fly on a B747 ever since the 70s. Never thought it would happen. Then in 2014 we was on a scheduled flight from the UK to Hong Kong with cathay Pacific and when we got to HK a lady was stood with mine and my gf's names on a card. I was like eh? She said our plane had burst a tire on landing and we had to move to a earlier flight from another gate. When we got to the gate I couldn't believe my eyes when out of the window sat a gleaming B747 400 in all her glory. I was in tears of joy and the lady at the gate was confused and thought I was a nervous flyer and marked me on the system as a nervous flyer so I got moved to seats with extra leg room and was treated like I was in first class. I was sat just to the front of the wing on the right hand side. Then the beast turns to the runways starts to throttle up then bag we start thundering down the runway. I was in aww at the size of the wings and the amount of flex they had. Its a shame they retired them shortly after but am glad to have been lucky enough to fly on one of the most iconic planes ever built.
Ah! Paine Field such a lovely place. Used to live in Lynwood, and Paine was my 2nd hang out back in 1984-1987. Superb camera work!
Absolutely fantastic!! This has to be one of your very best videos yet! That close up touchdown.. Amazing! Nice work, keep it up :D
Very nice. A beautiful airplane. Heads and tails better than the A380
couldn't agree more. the A380 is just not nice to look at. They must have fired all the aesthetics engineers at airbus lol.
The A-380 looks short and dumpy because of it's double deck configuration the 747-8 looks more sleek, more in proportion, it's my favourite plane too.
paul ryan I don't think aesthetics are even considered in aeronautical engineering
+arthur staal. not technically, however it often turns out that the shapes designed for the smoothest airflow are also aesthetically pleasing to look at, not always but more often than not.
Agree with 100%. The A380 just looks so clumsy and bloated. The 747 is truly the best. Ironically, I've flown in every plane but a 747. LOL.
she will ALWAYS be the Queen of the Skies!
for everrrrr
This livery is simply Lufthansa’s best.
Beautiful camera work. I felt like I was there.
Thanks for sharing this video of my favourite aircraft and airline.
I don't comment very frequently, but I had to mention the amazing camerawork. Nice job!
Thank you, all freehand.
*+OwnsGermany* - Whoah. No tripod? You have some seriously steady hands. Excellent work!
What Justin said!
The 747-8 is the best looking aircraft in the sky. She is a real lady.
What a beautiful bird. With regard to the "old design/project" comments below, it seems obvious (or should be) that exceptionally good design, performance, safety and durability/reliability (with sensible updates for capacity, fuel economy, safety and performance) never get old.
Bigger and/or newer are fine, but she's been the queen of the skies for over four decades for good reason.
Such a beautiful piece of engineering. Will never get over how gorgeous this plane is!
I cant believe more airlines haven't added this amazing aircraft to their fleet
expensive !
***** of course
the 747-8 is a new aeroplane
Moss235 of course but is an old project .
fair enough. you feel that the -8 might be the last 747, then again 20 years from now there might be need for another version
You captured that landing perfectly. I felt you were on the runway filming it. Nice.
Amazing landing. I love when the pilot keeps the nose landing gear up till the last minute.
Such a beautiful plane and it flies so smoothly
Going around is a sign of experienced pilot
+Pulkovospotter 0 out of 10 for a poor landing.
11 out of 10 for going around.
I was 12 when this astonishing aircraft was introduced. I'm now 63 and am as astonished by it.
This is by far one of your best videos ever! It all starts it's EPICNESS with this AWESOME plane peeking out of the clouds and the landing and the taxiing.. THIS WAS JUST SO AWESOME! I can't tell your enough
Thank you sir! It was a lot of running around to get this. I don't get to see these 748i's often so I'm still bummed I missed the departure.
It doesn't matter, you made an INCREDUBLE video.. You best yet, you should be celebrating not being sad
What a beautiful airplane and one of the very best footage I've seen! AV 10/10.
Great Distance shots...smooth and graceful. LOTS of bird activity in the area. Great work and post.
Absolutely stunning video!! Awesome filming and great work:)
This is a tried and true winner of an airplane. This version is a remarkable example of technology matched to a great airframe. Lufthansa and Boeing, a great marriage of aviation innovators.
That was the smoothest touchdown I think I have ever watched. Grease job.
beautiful aircraft no doubt.........cant wait to see it as a new air force one!!!
The most graceful aircraft.
The Queen of the skies.
One of your best, ever. Really good job my friend :)
xx
ooll
That was absolutely a butter-smooth landing. Sehr gut Lufthansa Kapitan! Es ist Wunderbar, Prima!
While the 747 is my favorite aircraft, I do admire the A380 as well.
The747 is really sleek and angular and sharp looking, while the A380 is really round and soft looking. Both are good.
BUT YES, the 747 is my all time favorite. Nothing else looks quite like it.
One of the nicest 748 videos.
so smooth and beautiful landing with Traffic and talented Pilot. Best Airline ever i see in my Life ....
Thanks for upload GREAT please put more like these.
CAPACITY! Very few airline routes between city pairs can support aircraft as large as the 747-8 and A380 carrying between 600-800 passengers per flight. Twin engine jumbos now can fly just as far as the four engine behemoths
747 8...strictly the best and most beautiful jet ever.
Love LH B748i's anytime, anywhere anyhow :)
Stunning catch.. she is a beauty 👍✅
by far the most beautiful plane ever made
she looks beautiful. Gleaming in the sun on final.. Nice video
What a magnificent aircraft the 747-8 really is. What a smart airline Lufthansa is to add this beauty to there fleet.
I wonder why RAM air turbine was open? I still love 747. Not a big fan of A380.
Since it is a flight from the Boeing Paine Field, they were most likely doing testing on many of components.
Logical guess, yes...
Yasser Naeem Mian isn't it called RAT?
Yasser Naeem Mian RAT deploy is usually a standard procedure on. B1 flight.
747 over the A380 any day. The 747-8 is incredibly beautiful.
Smooth! What a beautiful aircraft, and well filmed!
Camera operator is a god.
Very nicely made.neat and sophisticated.
Definitely one of your best! Good job mate!
Her Majesty, the Queen of the Skies!
The missed approach is dramatic-you get to see this beauty with perspective as she soars over us high in the sky.
That was beautiful.
Wow! Beautiful video! Thanks for posting.
Thanks, not on the 747,back from Germany, but Arbus-8,love Lufthansa.
Beautiful plane, beautiful landing.... Just wow
Good Pilot
Nice Landing and Streight approach
From birth on I was - because I am european - as I grew up more "for" AIRBUS. But when I was 11 years or so (mid 80s) there was no airbus and I LOVE the 747 because it is so huge and so good looking. And even if we have "our" A380 now, I can't decide what I like more. They look both great, but the 747 was there in the 80s, when I was a young kid and parents took me in these monsters to holiday...
dont know if i am so obsessed with 747 or not. all her features are shaped so beautiful. the nose, the tail fin, tail section, the wings and the upper deck. everything is designed so beautifully and in the right proportion. she is indeed the queen of the sky. wish boeing will sell more of these beauties and so she will be flying in the sky for all the years to come. comparing with that a380 she is just an ugly piggy shit flying in the sky.
Yea A380 give us a ugly fat looking
yes. u must be another fan of this queen of the sky. good for u.
Yea haha
but we are going to miss her as most airlines are retiring her one after one.
Yes but I think she is still great a great plane to like
Wow, what a majestic sight-like!
Don't you love the engine sound as she powers away on the 'go around'?
Ikr
Quite nice to see the horizontal stabilizer being released when the nose wheel touches down. I'll be flying in one of these in March to Frankfurt, assuming Lufthansa doesn't go on strike.
RIP birdy 1:12. beautiful plane and landing
Just amazes me how big that airplane is....
fantastic camerawork.
She is gorgeous :)
Wow doesn't do justice watching this on a mobile. Beautiful capture. Along with the RAT. Seen this a couple of other videos too. Wonder if maybe they just deploy to test it.
Boeing 747 a beautiful aircraft
Thank you "Flare assist"!!!
Nice Smooth Landing
Beautiful 747 the Queen lives
This big girl is still the most beautiful plane
0 out of 10 for a poor landing.
11 out of 10 for going around.
Well done Sir.
Can you do better?
Rad hit Can you read ?
No
Rad hit Well what did I say ?
Rad hit and blocked
Such a beautiful plane
Extremly smooth landing
Did anybody else notice the 747's RAT was deployed? Why? Was there a problem or was this a training flight of some sort?
I did,,,,,was wondering the same thing
I believe it was a test flight where they were testing different features.
Paine Field is where Boeing factory is. Likely that was a test flight.
Serious video. Did you have a tri pod set up, the recording was dead stable even at a high magnification
Paul Ward All freehand sir! I never use a tripod since I tend to move around a lot to catch different angles.
+OwnsGermany Fantastic footage of one of my favorite airliners (in fact, my favorite version of one of my favorite airliners). May I ask what equipment you used to film this (besides no tripod, I got that part, lol)
+OwnsGermany you must have the most stable hand ever i cant even carry a cup of coffee 2ft without loosing half of it
I can relate to that....
@@NorthernAviation LoL
Wonderful Video!
What a smooth landing
Perfect landing
What a landing!
Great Video mate!
Das ist schön
So beautiful
Helluva wheelie there.
Still brilliant.
INCREDiBLE
That's a BIG jet!
I just luv 747 tyres burning!!😀😀
Great video.
I fully agree the 747-8 is a splendid aircraft. I wish Virgin Atlantic would by them instead of the A350.
I recently flew from London to Las Vegas on a 747 400 shortly before landing there was a loud roar from the engines followed by a climb and a hard left turn.
The pilot explained that they were too close to traffic in front of us and that the aircraft had aborted the landing.
I didn't know that a plan such as the 747 could make decisions on its own.
What a landing amazing
I think i saw RAM turbine out at the belly at 1:40
Why is it out? Was it emergency landing?
revolutionfish Good observation! No emergencies here, this is a very common procedure on Boeing test flights.
+revolutionfish Yup I saw that too.
No, standard procedure to test the RAT during at least one test flight for functionality and make sure it deploys currectly.
This is the Boeing Factory so they probably are just testing it.
The sound 👍👍👍
I just hope this beauty doers not turn into a CARGO specialist like the MD-11's - I so want to try fly in one of these this year.
My vacations and how I pick my airline are based on what aircrafts I can get to fly :D
Nice filming.
Beautiful
Gorgeous light, like liquid!
fantastic, great video
They deployed the RAT (Ram Air Turbine) for some reason...look at point 1:42 and you'll see it spinning on the belly. RAT's are normally only deployed in an emergency loss of all or most hydraulic systems. In the case of the 747-8 their RAT could be either a last ditch hydraulic pump or last ditch generator (I don't know the 747-8 that well). The L-1011 (which I was an FE on) had a RAT also and it was a last ditch hydraulic pump.
For all the RAT questions...this was a test flight out of Boeing Field. IIRC; it's SOP to test many systems on these flights; thus the RAT was deployed to do its initial in-flight testing. Simple answer.
Great one!
love it. The approach angle is reasonably shallower compared to 400 or it just me??
Such a great aircraft, the lengthened deck doesn't hurt the beautiful lines, rather it looks even better. There is no mystery to the 4 engines, if two engines could provide enough thrust they would reduced the number down. It's not a negative, but a necessity In a large aircraft. Very large aircraft are specific to hub and spoke flying, the 787 serves another market where you can fly international high demand destinations from a smaller city non-stop,. You can't run daily 747 service from Denver to Tokyo, but you can fill a 787. Delta isn't buying the 787 but the 350's which may have too many seats to do the same thing out of their SLC hub to Tokyo and/or Hong Kong. American has the 787 but they haven't decided to use it to fly PHX to distant European high demand cities or Tokyo/Hong Kong
