Thank you so much for sharing this! Have a 1991 Silverado 1500 that I put an LS motor in and was having trouble getting the 700 to lock the converter. Thanks to your video and about 10 minutes worth of time I am all set! Can’t express my appreciation enough! 🙂

@@ryantollenaar7352 I have a 3 wire connection just like in vid. The 700 does have the ability too lockup in 2,3 or 4 but not first. It works fine and has no problem shifting, but it won't do it in 4th. I think i had a early valve body and have too get a different solenoid for 4th. Which involves dropping the pan (ugh).

No need to connect the two wires, you only have the one power wire coming out of the internal plug. I always just cut them off, also people are always saying you can't run self grounding solenoid just BS, solenoid is your grounding point.

My 83 700 R4 has two wires coming off of the solenoid one goes to the fourth gear pressure switch. Then you have a jumper over to the third gear pressure switch which enables it to lock up in third gear. Therefore, there are two different wiring, set up some of the early valve body.. if there is a casting mark over the cooling outlets, you know you have an 87 or newer 4L60.

The solenoid has 12v on the positive wire but it isn't grounded.
When it goes into 4th oil pressure is applied the the 4th gear switch which grounds the switch to the transmission competing the circuit to the lockup solenoid.

I have a terrible time with the transmission coming out of lockup after switching off the toggle switch that I have hooked up now. It seems to lock up ok above 60mph, but I have to give it about a mile before dropping down from highway speeds or it almost stalls the car. would I remove the toggle switch I have installed now, if I install the low vacuum switch?

    • @JohnSmith-ry8qj
      @JohnSmith-ry8qj 4 роки тому

I had a toggle switch hooked the lock up solenoid on a 85 Caprice 700R4 and it would control lock up as long as I would remember to flip the switch just before applying the brake it worked great. If I forget to flip the switch and stop the car no problem but would cause lockup to occur right after it shift to second not so bad if barely into the throttle opening or if the speed was fast enough for second when getting back off the brakes it would stall slightly. I got used to getting of the gas if forgotten trying to not destroy it and remembering to flip the switch came normal after driving it as a daily for several years. I could flip the switch a second before the top of second gear and run lock up in second and get at least ten miles per hour more into 3 at almost 100 and once it was locked it stayed lock even at full throttle. I had an 86 Caprice years before the 85 and it seemed to unlock at full throttle it would unlocked at 90 to 100 miles per hour it would down shift to full rpm and hold it back limiting it to that speed this didn't have a toggle, But with the switch the 85 would run to the top of third and go into overdrive manually shifted . It had so much more top end!

You can , use a lock up/vacuum switch from a mid 80s chev pickup for the 350c .
It is positive switched triggered by ported vacuum. It is fed power from the brake pedal switch when not pressed or directly from a 12v scorce , switched or not.

There is a video you my find helpful : " How to understand 80's Silverado/Sierra TTC lock up."
Posted by : Tyler's forgotten car rescue , on UA-cam.
Your electronic Quadrajet and distributor can be replaced with one from a 1975 to 1980 , non electronic. Trucks may have went up to 1986.
Hook the distributor advance to a manifold vacuum port , the TTC switch must be hooked to a ported vacuum port . Set the base timing @14° BTDC and you should be good to go.
The brake switch could be removed from the truck also.
There are also numerous very informative and detailed quadrajet videos on the same channel. Hope this helps.

So if you have an '87 or newer 700R4, you don't have to buy one of those lockup wiring kits? Just want to make sure I'm understanding this

@@mussabakram5875 the lock up solenoid should have between 24 and 26 ohms of resistance. You can also hook the black wire to ground and touch the red wire to 12 volts and listen for a click.

Okay Mr. Batakis. Have read all kinds of sh** about brake switches and relays or 6-pin connector switch and so on. You seem to know your business so I went ahead and ordered and installed the 4th gear switch for the 90 camaro md8 (Normally opened I'm assuming). Just want to be sure of this so now I ask: tap into a "switched" (key on only) 12 volt source for the TCC wire, and then wire the other 2 wires together. And that's it. Will lock up in 4th and unlock out of 4th, right? The trans is a 200 4R (KZF code) that was pulled from an 87 cutlass 442 and installed into my 78 cutlass cruiser wagon. Look forward to your response (and thanks in advance).
