Very informative. Nada lota YadaYada! Thank You for a straight to the point video. Wish they were all like that! I have one question just to be clear. On the two wires connected together, Do I still have to ground them to the case? Or just heat shrink them together? I guess thats only one question, just worded it differently. Thank you for your time, Mike.
Thanks so much!! It's all making sense now. I definitely needed explanation of this component's evolution throughout the years. GM made so many configurations for this circuit, which leads to a lot of very confusing conversation on various forums.
Hi Juys, I bought a 76 Jeep with 88 Chevy 4.3 engine without transmission. So, I bought a 94 700r4 transmission, but I don't know if I will require a module or hardness to put this transmission to work. Thank you in advance.
My rebuilt 350 has what they would call an RV cam I guess, it doesn't thump really hard, it just sounds like a slightly bigger cam Hopefully I can do the twist the wires together and run the purple to a 12v toggle
Can you or someone in here help me out? I just rebuilt a 700r4 and it shifts beautifully all except wont shift into 4th. I had installed the transmission into a Chevy LUV minitruck and the only way to take it back out is to completely remove the cab. In other words its allot of work to take it back out. Is there something i can do to the valve body to fix the problem? Has anyone had this happen before? Also does the lockup solenoid have to be energized to go into 4th gear? I never connected it because the torque converter I installed with it doesn’t have lockup. Thanks
I don't know if you will see this but I have a carbed 87 camaro. I did this, it works but I'm getting lock up in 2-3 and not 4th. Any idea why? Wiring mabye.
My 83 700 R4 has two wires coming off of the solenoid one goes to the fourth gear pressure switch. Then you have a jumper over to the third gear pressure switch which enables it to lock up in third gear. Therefore, there are two different wiring, set up some of the early valve body.. if there is a casting mark over the cooling outlets, you know you have an 87 or newer 4L60.
Thank you so much for sharing this! Have a 1991 Silverado 1500 that I put an LS motor in and was having trouble getting the 700 to lock the converter. Thanks to your video and about 10 minutes worth of time I am all set! Can’t express my appreciation enough! 🙂
Hey I just seen this do you really have to just hook up the three wires and one wire to 12 volt does it really work somebody let me know please I know it's an old video thank you

What does a big cam have to do with it? I have a "cam" but it is a roller cam in a gen1 400, stock lockup converter and a 700r4- idles around 800, low vacuum. Will this have any effect on this porcedure?
I wish I could do this on my 1981 corvette project with the TH350C 3 SPEED! It's built ,modified Vortecs heads, cam, exhaust, prom stage II jet chip, but kept ecm, distributor ,and carb if only to keep the lock-up functioning. If this trick worked i would dump computer and carb and do Edelbrock or Holley and vacuum advance distrib. But i thin my lock-up trips with several parameters including engine temp...Any Ideas if this will work...I can also buy a th200r4 and the aftermarket crosbrace but that'll be$ $$$.$$ I think I have those three same wires on left side trans....Thanks
You can , use a lock up/vacuum switch from a mid 80s chev pickup for the 350c . It is positive switched triggered by ported vacuum. It is fed power from the brake pedal switch when not pressed or directly from a 12v scorce , switched or not. Diagrams are available online.
@@jimroy969 This would allow me to pull my electroic advance distributor and change carb! Do you have a link to this retro -fit? So i need the lock-up switch from a 80s pick-up and is the switch set-up something I can pull at a bone yard? meaning the brake pedal mounted switch?
There is a video you my find helpful : " How to understand 80's Silverado/Sierra TTC lock up." Posted by : Tyler's forgotten car rescue , on UA-cam. Your electronic Quadrajet and distributor can be replaced with one from a 1975 to 1980 , non electronic. Trucks may have went up to 1986. Hook the distributor advance to a manifold vacuum port , the TTC switch must be hooked to a ported vacuum port . Set the base timing @14° BTDC and you should be good to go. The brake switch could be removed from the truck also. There are also numerous very informative and detailed quadrajet videos on the same channel. Hope this helps.
I just installed a 700r4 from an 88 pick up into a 77 squarebody. As soon as i connected it like shown here my torque converter worked properly. Couldnt believe it was that simple. Thanks for the great video!

Interesting. I have new transmission and motor ... 350 RV motor and the 700R4 ....... it does have a motor home cam. . ... so this will NOT work or do you have a dash switch or something that would help
The solenoid has 12v on the positive wire but it isn't grounded. When it goes into 4th oil pressure is applied the the 4th gear switch which grounds the switch to the transmission competing the circuit to the lockup solenoid.
I have a 1990 Corvette convertible, and just installed a B&M shift kit. The second valve body you showed is the one I have. I only want the lock up in 4th gear only. The rear main seal is starting to leak so I might as well install a 2,200 stall speed converter.
I have an 85, 700r4 has the port for a 4th gear pressure switch. Do I need to use an external pressure switch or can I just connect these 2 wires?
