Those jumps are very easy to do tool-less. The glitch allows you to climb anywhere, so all you have to do is press up and jump. However, there isn't anywhere where you can execute the glitch in the original SMW.
Snarly = Gnarly - Tubular 2 = Tubular - Way Cruel = Way Cool - Awful = Awesome - Gloomy = Groovy - Gonzo = Mondo - Rampageous = Outrageous - Forky = Funky - If you didn't catch the similarities, these are little plays on words of the names of the original Super Mario World special world levels.
This answer in the description is wrong: "No, it's not a cheat. At 6:01 Mario is on a line guided rope and gets blocked by the brown blocks. Mario gets pushed off of the rope but is still climbing. For some reason that lets Mario climb anywhere until I leave the room or touch another rope." Mario didn't do any of those things!
Yup. He does all that while he waits for the block-eating block thingy to become his moving platform across the piranha plants at 13:42. Cool, isn't it?
Its not one frame at a time. The original game runs at 60 FPS, that was lag caused by having to many sprites on the screen. Frame by frame is definetly not shown here.
I know Damn well you won't see this but this is ground brakeing levels of impressive 37 THOUSAND RERECORDS YOU PUT SO MUCH TIME INTO THIS, I COULD NEVER PUT THAT MUCH TIME OUT OF MY DAY TO MAKE A TAS good job I hope I can be as dedicated as you someday watched the whole thing liked and subscribed
i finally got the meaning of title. this game is difficult and mario often dies so this is cruel. but if you make fine play and reach goal, thats very cool. therefore, cool or cruel.
People seem to forget what TAS means. For those who don't know...it's tool assisted. Doesn't mean a bot is doing it.....it means a player is doing it frame by frame and making the best and fastest controls onto a program.
I don't think I've EVER seen a Game Over screen on a TAS before. The only thing cruel about this is the Do Not Jump disclaimer in the beginning. Other then that, thanks for the upload.
Reading descrption is obviously too hard... so I'll just copy what he wrote: FAQ: Q. How did you jump everywhere at 6:00? Did you cheat? A. No, it's not a cheat. At 6:01 Mario is on a line guided rope and gets blocked by the brown blocks. Mario gets pushed off of the rope but is still climbing. For some reason that lets Mario climb anywhere until I leave the room or touch another rope.
I'd imagine a TASer's worst nightmare would be dialouge boxes, as you need to end each conversation frame perfect or else it's not the 'fastest'. Sorry had to say something spooky for Halloween.
Every wall consists of normal solid blocks. If you cut off a part of a wall you'd be able to stand and jump on it. Normally you can't stand on one of the blocks because the wall pushes you out at 1 pixel/frame, so if you're 1 pixel inside the wall you get pushed out immediately. However, if you travel 2 pixels into the block you can "catch" the wall for 1 frame. To walljump you jump on that frame. If you want to try it, jump at any wall at sprinting speed; you'll catch it 33% of the time.
If you're climbing on a line-guided rope and get blocked by a wall, like I do at 6:01, You can climb anywhere. I jump as soon as possible after climbing because it is faster.
This totally caught me off guard listening one of the classic Jazzrabbit themes there in 3:43 ... Is there any chance you could share as an mp3 file this great tune from your rom hack ? Would appreciate a lot, sounds so nostalgic from the super nintendo soundchip.
i feel like this romhack is just a lot cooler (haha) than most of the other kaizo hacks. it just incorporates some more unique mechanics that notable hacks such as Mario Must Die don't.
At 6:01 Mario is on a line guided rope and gets blocked by the brown blocks. Mario gets pushed off of the rope but is still climbing. For some reason that lets Mario climb anywhere until I leave the room or touch another rope. I can't think of a better way of explaining it. It's not a cheat or anything :3
TAS stands for Tool Assisted Speerdun/Superplay. It means the movie was created by editing an input file with emulator tools such as save states and frame advance. see tasvideos . org for more details.
You can use two springboards to push yourself into a wall. When big mario is inside a wall he zips downwards and to the left, which is how I get through the wall.
A couple of questions. I apologize, I'm fairly new to the SMW hack scene. But there are a couple of things I've been wondering about for a while. 1) How do you do the wall jumping (such as at 2:06)? Is it possible to do that without using frame-by-frame play? I heard something like if you are on the top 1/16th of a pixel, you can jump off of it or something. Is this true? Is this how you do the wall jumps? Is it possible to do this jump in mid-air? Or only on walls? 2) How do you carry two items at the same time (such as holding the key and the P switch at 8:25)? It's not possible to do this in the original Super Mario World is it?
1) It’s by clipping Mario’s/Luigi’s foot between two wall tiles so the game thinks he’s on the ground and he can jump 2) By placing 2 items in the same place, then ducking and sliding to grab the items
Entertaining to watch but wouldn't do myself. And even with your explanation I still don't understand how you achieved the infinite double jump at 6:00
Great run man, It must have taken some time to figure out all the timings. I would like to give a special thanks to worldpeace125 since this hack has, by a fair margin, the best soundtrack I have ever heard in a hack.
so, can someone explain the purpose of shifting the screen to the right on some of these Mario TASes? is it a cycle thing, or just for input's sake alone?
Sprites only spawn when they are a few blocks from the edge of the screen. Screen scrolling is mostly used to manipulate when sprites spawn/despawn, which can save waiting time. At 17:38, for example, it results in every Banzai Bill spawning earlier, so I have to wait less.
Ok Ok. So, i have some questions now, please answer..^^ How long does it take to play one Level with TAS ? Like, when you play "frame by frame" do you need like 20 minutes or more for a single level ? And where are the savestates in the video ? Or is it cutted so it will look like one playthrough ? And what are "rerecords" exactly ? And why could you jump from midair.. that looked a bit boring o.o
A level can take up from to about 10 minutes to like 10 days or more , it depends in the level and the game ? This is one of those emulator movies , in where you really dont notice the savestates. And yes in the world of TASes rerecords pretty much means savestates , so yeah.. I hope I was usefull !
You automatically lose, the game says "do not jump"
Arron The Wolf no,thats troll, cause you need to jump
Yes
0:08 "DO NOT JUMP"
> 0:33
2008 worldpeace
The music in this hack is epic.
FUCK YEAH!!!!! CHOCOLATE ROM HACKS ARE MOTHERFUCKING UNBEATABLE!!!!!
Those jumps are very easy to do tool-less. The glitch allows you to climb anywhere, so all you have to do is press up and jump. However, there isn't anywhere where you can execute the glitch in the original SMW.

i know it's kinda cool
Nice observation, yeah sorry I’m 4 years late, lol.
Luigi used Acrobatics
It's super effective
Riolin Riolu Mario used easier levels to beat. It's not very effective.
This answer in the description is wrong:
"No, it's not a cheat. At 6:01 Mario is on a line guided rope and gets blocked by the brown blocks. Mario gets pushed off of the rope but is still climbing. For some reason that lets Mario climb anywhere until I leave the room or touch another rope."
Mario didn't do any of those things!
+harakiri rover did you watch the video?
It was Luigi, not Mario!
+harakiri rover Mario taking credit for doing nothing again
Yes he did
Green mario
Was this intended to be completed by a human?
i think... yeah
***** these wall jumps are from the TAS guy who did them. the actual gameplay is doable
+Paco Cotero no human can do it with the consistency that TAS can though. These levels cannot be done by a person
I mean at 6:00, he's just straight up double jumping, which isn't possible? I don't get how that works
i can try doing it with save states but without TAS.
repeating the level again and again trying the necessary combinations of buttons
Please, don't let Ross from GameGrumps see this video. He would kill us all
Knily probably not
Tokoyami
5:25 OH GOD, NO. It's "the ground colour is yellow" from Touhou Hisouten!! Oh gawd, it sounds so good in SNES... ;-;
nje fiem Hell Yeah
reminder
This was an awesome TAS, and very entertaining, I thought there was no way to make Gloomy entertaining. Good job MRO.
Was the shit around 13:30 just for show? Cause it was pretty badass XD
Yup. He does all that while he waits for the block-eating block thingy to become his moving platform across the piranha plants at 13:42. Cool, isn't it?
13:32 - 13:50 is an alternative path and every action there was necessary to pull it off. Doesn't make it any less badass, though.
@@TenaciousJ728 They're munchers
TASers do this all the time.
23:25 Oh, so this is what it's like to be using a TAS. Watching everything go by one frame at a time.
Its not one frame at a time. The original game runs at 60 FPS, that was lag caused by having to many sprites on the screen. Frame by frame is definetly not shown here.
*****
That was the joke. The framerate drop. I know it wasn't actually frame by frame.
I laughed at this joke....
Luigi, the god.
Two words SO EPIC,the songs and the play
You know, sometimes it feels like I'm watching a completely different game that is not super Mario world related
7:13 What will happen if player going goal at the bottom?
You will die
People seem to forget what TAS means. For those who don't know...it's tool assisted. Doesn't mean a bot is doing it.....it means a player is doing it frame by frame and making the best and fastest controls onto a program.
I can do this. Hold my beer!
This is a great TAS Mario video.
11:08
Never thought I'd hear Ikaruga music being played with the SMW samples.
Also, a pretty fun TAS to watch.

Metal Slug 3 Soundtrack (Mission 4-2) Pyramid
I really appreciate all the classic shmup arrangements in the music.
I can promise, I will never be this good! Thanks for watching.
3:15 - Isn't that the bg music from Nemesis/GB flavored with a certain spice of Super Mario?
@MRO314 Do you have a link for the music played at: 21:35 ?
I got past the title screen, does that count?
The best tracklist for any SMW rom hack I've seen so far. :3
Amazing TAS, great job making this.
6:45 Luigi is having a paroxysm.
I don't think I have ever said fucking what so many times in 25 minutes until watching this video
I don't think I've EVER seen a Game Over screen on a TAS before. The only thing cruel about this is the Do Not Jump disclaimer in the beginning. Other then that, thanks for the upload.
I noticed when the TAS has to wait, it plays around and dose CRAZY things!
tas'es are more entertaining then lets plays to be honest.
why the F does he ever need cape, shells, etc. if he can just mid-air jump infinite times??
Reading descrption is obviously too hard... so I'll just copy what he wrote:

I subscribed you! TONS of my friend have been amazed by your video! Even my dad's impressed!
Thx for saying how to do the glitch in the description
I feel bad for Luigi here. He's getting pushed so hard, and so far!!! It looks like he's lucking out way too much.
This TAS is really good! :). Also, Luigi will never be afraid of boos again: 15:00.
I love the "making the original level names negative." Pretty creative!
what is the soundtrack called that plays at 2:50 ???
and the one at 17:29
13:15 till the end of the level, that is some of the best amature level design I've ever seen, huge kudos to whoever did this romhack

hasta el min 6:03 te lo paso , pero saltar el aire? Luigui abrio la octava puerta? 😪😪😪
0:06 Bomberman!
Love all the music!
You sir, deserve a cookie for this!
gonzo best music
At 20:28 were you trying to get yoshi
10:50 - 11:01 and that my friends, that the majestic power of TAS 🔥
Thank you so much! Almost no ones answers my questions about music names :D
13:13 and forward, done that once or twice before perhaps? :)
TAS stands for Tool Assisted Speerdun/Superplay. It means the movie was created by editing an input file with emulator tools such as save states and frame advance. see tasvideos . org for more details.
Music on Gonzo was perfect. I liked the remix of Bubble Crab's theme on the water area too.
MRO314: Look mom! no hands!
Gotta love the spinning Goomba at 22:17
You can use two springboards to push yourself into a wall. When big mario is inside a wall he zips downwards and to the left, which is how I get through the wall.

This is an easier version of C/C? Forky has been completely skipped because of the shell next to the ending
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. I wonder if there are impossible custom levels for that game too.
This rom hack may look damn near impossible
but the music sure is rad
Whats the name of the song in the last level, the link to the list isn't working (probably cause I'm on mobile)
Entertaining to watch but wouldn't do myself. And even with your explanation I still don't understand how you achieved the infinite double jump at 6:00
Where are the sprites at 23:00 from? They aren't from Super Mario World, are they?
3:07 It was only then that I realized it was Luigi and not Mario.
Skyusagi *slow claps*
Are there any Sonic hacks this extreme?
Is this humanly possible? Most of the tricks seems doable and the ones that don't seem to be alternate TAS routes.
+June b *Tool Assisted Speedrun
+June b Tas=Tool assisted speedrun, and yes they are doable
I think yes is just extremely hard...
some are some arent. but most of the time glitches are made by humans then incorporated and perfected by TAS
The intended route for the hack is completely doable, but the TAS route, which we see in this video is not possible for a human to do.
I just realized, TAS is like quantum mechanics...
You just have to be so darn good at everything don’t you
12:32 What is the music's title?
Wow a JazzJack Rabbit theme ! Great video, incredible!
Can someone or you, MRO314, upload these songs in the background? There are all so good and i must have these master pieces of music. :DD
4:17
music?
@ 13:10 ... okay, not cruel, just cool. Insane!
what is the song of level 2?
Read the description. If you mean snarly, the song is Tyrian - Asteroid Dance 1. If you mean Tubular 2, it's Jazz Jackrabbit - Tubelectric.
thank!!! :D
Snarly: Thought of Golden Sun 2 (Mars Tower).
+Bjorn Berkers take a look at From The Depths if you want something vaguely similar
Holy shit, you totally destroyed Way Cruel. Great job!
I have no idea what this is all about, but damn it's awesome.
Nice breaks :D. Great job!
Lol wasnt expecting some themes like ikaruga and metalslug inside ! Realy Good hack.
... The game-designers for this is amazing... the whole load of them...
5:26 music please 😢😢😢😢
Touhou 10 The Ground Collor is Yellow
The creator of this rom hack was a Touhou fan.
Great run man, It must have taken some time to figure out all the timings. I would like to give a special thanks to worldpeace125 since this hack has, by a fair margin, the best soundtrack I have ever heard in a hack.

17:38 ayy bae
hahaha loved the "megaman x5" theme at 8:30
(and the others music in this game too, but that one i mentioned in special)
bubble crab theme in megaman x2 (original)
Could it be humanly possible? On real hardware?
What's the custom music for the levels? They sound pretty cool... and I guess we had to sacrifice Mario?
My favorite emulator sound glitches. The spin attack sounds all crappy and I love it lol
Great vid.. Can you upload a list to the music tracks, or a place to get them... ???
Why you killed yourself at "The Level"?
A time saver most likely. That way the game didn't have to jump back and forth between Mario and Luigi
whats the tune used from 1:13 ? ive heard it in a game before
Read the description. It's "Asteroid Dance 1" from Tyrian
Ok Ok. So, i have some questions now, please answer..^^

11:07 that is the song from Ikaruga, one of the best airship games Ive ever beaten
@nathanisbored ummm... i did it once, when i was making a tas of this level.. however a quit like half way through out of lack of motivation.
