I'm trying some apricots zone 7a in Ga, I got the chill hours covered but after that I'm not so sure. Plums are fine here, cherries are a no go for sweet cherries. Spring is brutal a lot of years on any fruit trees from the wildly fluctuating temps. Only my blueberries and persimmons don't seem to mind at all. I'm hopeful for the apricots. I hated them from the time I was a kid but what we get shipped to us here are terrible. I was working a little years ago out near Roseville and met a guy I was working with that grew them in his back yard. He talked me into trying one fresh off the tree, reluctantly I tried. Wow! My best response. I've wanted some since. So bust or not, I've got to give them a try.

What does Gary rhink about black and red lava sand fines? The soil yard go to has black and red lava sand fines which is a coaser and lighter than builders sand sold box stores. I had heard that sand blends well with clay soil when amending adversely affect clay soil ie turn it concrete like over time.
