Good luck tomorrow Simon. My ‘hot tip’ is a repeat of what I suggested after IM Texas last year: on the marathon you should have a rule: ‘not one km in under 4.10 min/km pace’ for the first half, so that you can hit a goal of ‘not 1 km in over 4.30 min/km’ in the back half. That might see you in around 3hours, but even if you fail to meet the magic sub 3hr marathon split you should nonetheless beat your marathon PB by over 20 minutes. Which in turn should see you finish the IM in well under 9 hours: hopefully a sub 8:30hr race and heaps of Ironman Series points earned!
@@SimonShi congratulations for sticking it out on a tough day. Hopefully you’ll take lots of ‘learnings’ from the experience into your next ironman. Great swim, BTW! You can also take solace from the fact that you actually beat the winner at your last race … so there is that. I reckon that a complete ironman performance is ‘just around the corner’ for you. Any ideas on which race you might focus on? Personally, I’d like to see to do an ‘easier’ (all relative as there is no ‘easy’ ironman) race - perhaps not an Ironman series race - where you can key in on hitting your targets for power and pacing on the bike and run. I’ve mentioned IM Florida to you before, but I dont know if it is a pro race this year. Maybe Arizona. Edited - I reckon Ironman Penticton at the end of August would be an ideal ironman for you to next target: just checking the Ironman pro calendar its amazing how many pro ironman races have dropped off the calendar: something that ironman have been able to ‘hide’ behind the publicity of the ironman pro series. A shame really, as there needs to be some ‘third tier’ pro races that don’t necessarily carry pro series points or Kona qualifying slots for ‘strug pros’ like yourself to target as you develop your craft.
@@andrewmetcalfe9898 Thank you!! Yes Ironman Penticton is on my radar! I have Ironman Lake Placid as my next one. Signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, which will be the last to qualify for Kona. It'll be either that or Penticton.
@@SimonShi any more 70.3s on the schedule for summer? Ie. perhaps Bolder - looks to be a softer field than usual with the PTO T-100 in San Fran on the same day. Plus a good benchmark for you to compare progress with last year’s race.
@@andrewmetcalfe9898 I signed up for Chattanooga 70.3 Have a local 70.3 the same weekend as Boulder so I don’t have to travel. That’s about it before lake placid!
Good luck in Texas. I'll be back some day to that course. I'm still mad at it for the disappointing experience I had. I was so unprepared for the winds and warm temperatures. I'll prepare better next time.
Podium for you is my prediction. Why...look rested and not overcooked. Hit it Simon good luck!! Maybe a new bike sponsor, the bike looks very low-end, especially the cockpit, etc.
You should make a video comparing swim specific taper to triathlon taper! As a fellow swimmer turned triathlete, I am interested at your thoughts comparing the two
Oh right, I should put up Celsius and kilometers next time! I’m actually thinking about it doing Ironman European champs in Frankfurt on August 18! Never been tog Germany but that race I am signed up for 😊
GOOD LUCK!!!
Thanks!!
Gosh darn heck of a training day
Yep!!
