  • On today's video I show how to make a Reuben sandwich using canned corned beef. Is it any good?
I get a lot of people asking where they can get certain things that I use in my videos, so I created a Tom's Test Kitchen store on Amazon. You will find everything I could think of that I've used in one way or another in previous videos. Please take a look around, I hope you find what you're looking for, if not just ask. Thanks! www.amazon.com...

Tom that looks great! I'm 54 and my grandmother would buy corned beef like this from the butcher and she would mix it in a bowl with mayo ,salt n pepper for sandwiches. If your a fan of tuna salad, deviled ham, deviled chicken and egg salad then your in for a treat. This once was a very common well loved deli sandwich . Add a layer of egg salad and you won't be disappointed. It will keep 3 to 4 days in the fridge no problem. I just opened a can 2 days ago and I can't stay out of it.

I heat the CB in a pan and break it apart as it warms the push the pieces into a patty and cook about 5 min. on each side over med high heat to get a nice crust. Sometimes I just put some sauerkraut and caraway seeds on top, cover for a couple of minutes until the kraut is hot, squirt some yellow mustard on top and eat and sometimes I make a Reuben by putting the cooked patty on rye bread with Kraut and Swiss cheese and grill. Very good I use the Walmart brand CB or the Libby's brand. Both are products of Brazil

I would slice that ultra thin and pan fry it before it putting it on the bread to grill it. I'd use Russian dressing too for that genuine Reuben taste. Interesting idea, Tom!

I was thinking the same. That meat when fried, as you describe, is similar to Gyro meat, but it's corned beef. So yeah, that should go well in a Reuben. I might ditch the Rye and stuff those ingredients in a pita just for fun.

Fry the corned beef until crispy then assemble your sandwich. Also thinner slices are better. Pile them up if you like more meat.

I grew up in the early 60s eating this, its actually called pressed corned beef, still love it today the butchers up here in Canada order the 6 inch by 6 inch by foot long cans and you can get slices for sndwiches. Its almost impossible to get it out in one piece if you dont get it cold first it will just crumble. Now that is what we do when we make corned beef hash, no refrigeration empty it into the fry pan that has already cooked has browns(cubed ones) or home fry potatoes mmmm good upload

I love corn beef but, have been walking by the canned corn beef at Aldi's for a while now. Finally decided to try it out and was really surprised by how good it was! Especially for a Reuben. Not as good as the real stuff but, still really good

Sitting here eating a Knoppers, with corned beef can in mind searching for a video and found yours. Now see the Knoppers in your Video and think like, huh I need some sauerkraut. And what is thousand island dressing. Sound delicious 😋. Greets from Germany 👍

Never thought about using canned corned beef to make a Reuben but great idea! But the next time you make one, definitely fry the corned beef slabs first until crispy then place them on the cheese.

This is nothing like Spam. It has gelatin and fatty layer on it when it slides out of the can. It has a sort of salty canned flavor but not really bad. That may also depend on the quality of the brand you get. I get it once in awhile myself. I should stock up on it. Maybe get a can of different brands when I do and see how that goes.

I grew up on Ruben sandwiches made with the canned corned beef. I have the ingredients on hand I may make us some maybe tomorrow night. I would not slice the meat that thick. Also that is not the dressing I would use. If nothing else I will use Mayo and relish.

It's not bad for canned corned beef, though of course VERY salty. I'd definitely follow the instruction to refrigerate next time I get it.

Best way is mix the can with some mayo in a bowl to make a creamy spread. Then do what you did. I prefer spicy mustard on mine as well

I think beer would pair well with a Rueben sandwich. I used my homemade Thousand Island dressing, very tasty.

I think i would have sauteed it and had a chopped corn beef sandwich. I think i would put onions in the pan too.Never would do it uncooked like this only because its canned. I think a nice hot cornbeef sandwich is what i want right now

@@bradwilliams3278 I just don't think Spam and Hawaii have much to do with canned corned beef in Texas. They are both canned meat obviously but that's it. Perhaps Spam was also created for the military. You would probably know the answer to that. I don't. No judgement just a small observation of the way my brain works sometimes. It can be odd because it never shuts down and works independently.

  • @lukes2108

Canned corned beef is stupid expensive and the ultimate dead cow dining experience. It is totally unrelated to deli sliced corned beef. The way to make canned corned beef deader cow is to heat it cook again it as in this video. It dissolves into a pink, nasty tasting, salty, greasy sludge. Pink from funky prauge powder #1 sodium nitrite curing salt. Canned corned beef is only made in Brazil and Argentina. It is rendered down bones ,blood, guts, in huge vats. maybe from diseased cows can't sell on open market hence the heavy nitrates preservatives. Then stuffed into cans like dog food. Ask yourself the simple question why is it not made in USA? Only South America? Also ask why would they can beef if fit to sell raw?
