This is simply impressive especially considering that Super Mario 3D World is one of the most beautiful games on the Wii U. I can barely tell the difference in the quality of the 3D models.
@@Butterscotch_96Mario Kart 8 on Wii U had that 59fps issue where it constantly skipped a single frame that drove me insane once someone pointed it out. That alone makes the switch version the definitive version imo.

This Shows that the Wii's graphical capabilities were more powerful than we all thought. And that Super Mario 3D World didn't properly showcase Wii U's full graphical capabilities......
That's also typical of early titles for consoles. It's not really until several years in a console's lifespan that you start getting high fidelity games because they know how to push the software to its limits.
This doesn’t look as good as the galaxy games at all. The main reason it looks impressive for the Wii is because it’s running in an emulator in HD. Seeing this in 480p on Wii natively would surely change your mind.

yeah i wanted to get that video out as well before i go into a small break again my next upload will be either at the end of november or early december or maybe as late as a few days before christmas
The backporting is exceptionally done! The clear pipes work as intended with only very slight visual jank, and the models' reductions for the Wii's less-powerful hardware are just about imperceptible!
I love how well this just works. I mean out of this whole video the only that's cursed to me is at 3:12, but that's only because I hear the SMG Star Get rather than 3D World's. Also I love how occasionally you try to spin jump out of habit like at 7:28 where you can see the cursor shake a little.
I don’t understand why they’d remove the spin jump. Like okay, Rosalina was the only one to have it in 3D World - but this isn’t 3D World, it’s a Mario Galaxy 2 Mod 😅 Its main appeal is, of course, having Galaxy Mario going through 3D World stages. Also, since the mod doesn’t exist anymore, I think someone should document the whole thing on UA-cam - otherwise we’ll risk having it lost.
I think the main reason it looks and runs this well is because 1. The levels in 3D world are WAY smaller than Galaxy 2, and 2. 3D World looks good, but it does have a simpler artstyle than Galaxy 2. The Wii obviously wasn’t powerful for the time, so Nintendo got around it by giving their games a GREAT artstyle, and they still do to this day. I’m not saying that 3D World looks bad, not at ALL, but it is undeniably a simpler artstyle than previous 3D titles, (Which I think was actually a point of contention when 3D World was revealed initially). Still, either way: This is an awesome mod, it is REALLY interesting to see what the modding community can do!
It doesn't look exactly the same, but it's very close and clearly using most of the same models and textures for the environment. I doubt the Wii could handle all those at the same time, especially with its 64MB of RAM, they were designed for a system with 2GB.

I’m very curious why it looks so good. Do 3D World and Galaxy 2 use the same engine? Or like similar setups? Lighting, animations, skyboxes are identical to 3D World..
I doubt they use the same engine, but even if it was, it would have been heavily overhauled to support the entirely new lighting engine that 3D World has. Of course it’s likely we will never know because Nintendo doesn’t talk about their internal game engines.
I wouldn’t say that. This mod is based on super Mario Galaxy 2 which came out in 2010 while super Mario 3D world came out in 2013. Mario Galaxy 2 has a lot of assets that are in 3D world and can be brought over to this mod. Galaxy also looks really nice
