Thanks for watching!
I can’t get over how great the floor toms sound. They ring for days. Love it.
Wich one? hahah
Busted. I see the MIDI cable coming out of your brain through your skull. I knew something was up.
I actually always thought this was what the cables were for in concerts as a kid 😂😂😂😂
Thanks to everyone for all the kind words. Glad ya dig it!
Alex! You're really one of the greats! I'd like to know what you think of Matt's drumming (compared to someone like yourself). I consider Matt (and you, after recently discovering your page) one of the greatest to ever play. Any insight on Animals or any other band/drummer that you admire or struggle to follow would be really cool to know!
dominant left foot and dominant right hand... freak of nature you are..
Heh, he's not left foot dominant.. that's kinda the point. He just trained his left side equally and this is the result. Check out Travis Orbin in you haven't already!
***** No, he's born left handed. But learned to play with a right handed drum kit.
David Castillo Pérez I don't know if that is true, but either way he trained his non-dominant side enough to keep up with his dominant side.
***** yeah... a lot made sence to me when I found out, that Alex was a student of Travis. just as Anup Sastry. I bet Travis is an awesome drum teacher. did anyone checked out his video lessons you have to pay for? are they worth it?
BrownBear96 I've bought the Barehand / Barefoot and Rehearsal Techniques video lessons. They're definitely worth the money. I will buy all of his instructionals soon enough -- they're really worth the small amount of cash.
I'm not sure how you are hearing a 'mistake' there, but it is correct to me. Thanks for the kind words though!
who the fuck?

you never notice all the small drum parts in a song untill you actually watch someone play it. Even after i've been drumming for 10 years, this amazes me when i see someone play a really good version of a hard song i've listened to countless times.
People who dislike what you're doing behind the kit, doesn't know what is really going on...
That's for sure!!!
Jesus this is another level of drumming , makes me feel motivated and depressed all at the sametime! \m/
SO many years later...I come back to this and admire that snare sound. Oh, and the impossibly accurate drumming.
he looks so concentrated and so happy about the whole thing at the same time.
i think this is awesome
the travis orbin setup is so naturally comfortable to play. great cover
I like the doubles on the single foot. Most drummers with double bass pedals just completely disregard the technique. Props
Whenever I play this song, I play the 2:00 - 2:15 part to perfection.
Steve K hmmm, before i even hit the timestamp, i assume it’s just Alex literally playing nothing?
TinyFireball ???????? you ok?????? where did I miss the joke???? please tell me where???????
@@user-id2dx4qd6j it’s ok lol they didn’t understand you, they must have just seen ‘playing nothing’ and gone duuuuhgh I’m stupid as fuck I’m gonna jump to a stupid conclusion and say something stupid as a result
@TinyFireball I’m talking about you
Underrated drummer like seriously he's insanely good
He’s not human
10 years later, still impressed. Dexterity skill maxed.
I'm a bass player, and it never ceases to amaze me how much talent it requires to be a good drummer. Kudos!
thanks jared dines for introducing me alex rudinger
3:05 literally the most badass thing i've ever seen and heard
He's a right-handed drummer who has learnt to play with equal skill in his left hand to his right. Also, Travis Orbin taught him drums for a while and they're good friends. Furthermore, before he changed the description to say that this was an audition video (which was very recently), he mentions how he chose to set his kit up like Travis' because he only needed those pieces and thought it would be fun. BAM! More information than you need or I should know.
AAL's stuff is so intricate and technical and you make it look like ACDC. What the hell dude, teach me.
10 seconds into the video and I am already subscribed for life. Unreal.
Man that was the most perfect cover of this song I've seen on youtube! And am I the only one who noticed that he played certain parts of the song with either the left or the right foot! Just mad! Way to push the handicap of an already impossible song! That was just brilliant man!
still one of my favorite drum vides to watch. "rudy" is as tight as they get. such perfect control and technique, the best!
Seeing awsome lefty open handed drummers like this guy and carter beauford makes me want to play a lefty set up
Fantastic drumming my friend, simply put: amazing as always!
The outcome of hours upon hours and days upon days of drumming.
The cleanest most incredible drumming of this song I could ever have imagined. That kit looks hard af to play. Super killer video, I still can't believe how flawless and perfect those rhythms were. Seriously. Now I can't go back to sleep.
I love the sinusoidal accenting at 2:45 ->, and especially how you maintained it despite bringing in the kick drum and snare later. Its that attention to detail that makes you so amazing. Pure class.
I love this setup. I would really like to try it out one of these days.
That bell brass snare is sick!
WHAT SNARE IS IT I MUST KNOWWWW?
WHO MAKES it ... ??
Its a Pearl Reference Brass 14x6.5" :)
an awesome drummer playing an awesome song from an awesome band .
Doesn't matter how many different drum covers I've watched on UA-cam over the years, this is and will probably always be my favourite.
The skill, the technique, the groove, it's just flat out amazing and gave me inspiration to pick up the sticks again after a very long break.
I love that bit between 0:00 and 5:16
REALLY REMINDS ME OF OPETH....JUST A LITTLE BIT. I REALLY LOVE THIS.
flawless in a robotic composition. his footwork is simply out of this world. starts in double, then left, then right and again left. you're the perfect description of dedication.
Alex, you're one of my favorite drummers to watch. Thanks for making videos, you're an excellent drummer.
Those ghost notes at 3:35....
I never knew that Aaron Paul was so good at drums
Your dexterity with the drums, along with ambidexterity, and over all mechanically produced, exact precision hits are phenomenal.
You are a machine, yet full of soul. The way he plays the drums reminds me very much of Blake Richardson from Between the Buried and Me.
Soulful machines the both of you.
You've inspired me to experiment with open handed playing.
Thank you.
You're like a robot that grooves. Probably my favorite drummer on UA-cam. Flawless every time. And I LOVE the Meinl set up.
Travis orbin!!!!!
Do you mean, cause of the way he plays? Yes, Alex have learned this from Travis. He was his teacher ;-)
+LimpBizkitDrummer his set is also very similar
My opinion! Travis is tighter. More talent 100% were not talking Thomas language dave weckl but one of the very best!
Auto correct at it finest
I thought matt garska was the drummer for animals as leaders?
oh hes just covering it im a dumbass
This made me laugh way too much.
well at least I gave someone a good laugh with my stupidity lol
oh badass, does he play for anyone right now?
Tarl Knox He plays for The Faceless now \m/
You are an absolute inspiration man. Some of the best drumming I have ever heard. Your ghost notes are taste sensation to the maximundo!
Absolutely Incredible. I love your playing, glad I got to see you with Monuments in Seattle. Crazy good Show!
did i saw a left foot to play bass drum? Awsome!!!
Yeah crazy. He used to play pearl pedals I guess
You do not rack disciprin.
It is absolutely awesome to find people with such a talent as you dude. Very nice work, you just nailed it in every second of the track :)
Alex you are my biggest influence when it comes to pedal work. Your's is flawless and I strive to be able to play as effortlessly (or seemingly effortless) as you do one day.
Dear Mr. Rudinger:
Would you be so kind to tune my entire kit?
Tnx in advance.
3:05 8D - XD - 8D- XD- 8D Ahahah u are amazing dude!
Ahahahahaha good observing
Dude... that was the best cover of this song ive seen, and i know how hard it is to play, cant quite nail it myself!
Man a machine couldn't do it better, amazing timing...great foot control and switching...great playing...
I wanna see you do a Beatles cover.
Jared Dines wasn't just bragging you up, you're the real deal. I'd love to see you cover some old school Mudvayne. L.d50 stuff!!
What the hell.....
lmao
This is fuckin badass, dude. I absolutely love the drums and how raw, powerful, and chaotic they are...especially the cymbols. Also, flawless victory, brother.
Been binging his stuff for a while now, crazy to see something this old. Everything is already there, but boy, has he mastered his craft now. Easily one of the best drummers in the game, maybe *the* best.
I love that he's playing an entire part with his left foot :D
That travis orbin setup :3 like student like teacher
This is probably my favourite snare sound. Really love the lower ring to it.
Really great playing! You're very fluid and have great control. I enjoy watching your drum vids. Gives me motivation!
Jared Dines send me :)
Me too !
+Muscle Science SAME!
+Muscle Science LOL me three!!
saem
Good tiger tour sent me here
THIS NEEDS MORE COWBELL!!!!!!
Playing so tight, so focused.. Man you are one awesome drummer!
Still love this video. rewatch it a couple times a week working out on the basement bike lol. Matt Gartska is a beast and congrats for all the success with animals since he joined, but you covering this song so intensely is the best haha. Love it.
well jared dines is sending a lot of people here and he wasnt wrong at all
2 floor tom without a tom ? well thats a rare set up..nice played !
Look up Matt Halpern or Travis Orbin. They both don't use rack toms (Orbin does but its like Alex where its on his left.) Matt from the past just used a floor tom i believe. Not sure what his set up is now though. /:
Jack Heet Halpern absolutely uses a rack
Dylan Mortimer Not in his tour sets from the past. Look up some old vids of periphery live. I can almost guarantee that he won't be using a rack.
yeah fair play. I seen them maybe a year ago at soundwave and he was sporting a rack. sick drummer either way
Very true. Very true indeed.
I have watched, more than a few drummers, and you are definetly in the top class, and can stand up with any of them.Great play, great sound, what is else to say :)
What a sick advanced drummer OMG Perfect Dicipline and Technique WOW, nice job lml
perfect for MESSHUGAH
Id love to know who Alex studied drums with when he first started out... Amazing!!
Travis Orbin, as far as I know
Yup. Travis Orbin for sure. It's listed on his website and you can even judge by the setup lol
@@WhirlwindStudio not just the setup but the way he hits the drums in this is unbelievably similar to travis' technique
@@datboi3577 It's a great technique not gonna lie. I've learned a lot through Travis Orbin's video drum lessons and has brought more creativity to playing open handed. Dude is a wizard lol
LOVE the bass drum sound
Sight reading and playing like that. Excellent!
look travis orbin is taking over alex channel
Travis taught alex
is he taught anup sastry too
+haekal nadhil idk check Travis Irvin's website
+lefevredrummer *orbin
thx yes he is
Is he seriously able to just read that shit and then transfer it to his hands and feet? Thats so astounding. I thought only pianists did that, and even then I still dont understand how you can train your brain to do that
Most professional musicians can read music for their instrument, including drummers. For pianists it may be more difficult, having to read multiple different notes for each hand. Fact is that (if the song is not too easy) you read and remember the patterns that you practised over and over again, you usually don't read every single note and transfer it to your hands.
I think he transcribes it himself and uses the transcribed notation as a guide when he plays. he's not sight reading this for the first time, there's no way. I cant speak for him tho
You're right, it would be incredible. Most people that can sight read have either been playing for 10+ years or play something like a trumpet or flute (only plays one note at a time.)
Yeah it's absolutly baffling.
Lol are you serious? How can one call them selves a musician if they dont know how to read music? That is the most fundamental aspect of being a musician. And he most likely didn't sight read it. He probably just has it there for reference. Thats what my band director at me high school does. When we are practicing our marching show. He tells us not to stare at the music but just have it there just in case.
wow!! Very Nice!!! Nice Kit!!! Great drums song and you play a lot!!!
Bravo mi amigo!!! Igual al disco! Felicitaciones!
***** Navene made 20 fake youtube accounts to downvote this video because Alex plays it way better. XD
I hate fuckers like that. People do it to one of my videos too -_-
lol! good one, that's a tough joke to get across in the youtube comment section
Dan Urech Thanks man, I tried my best hahaha.
playing with odd time signatures sometimes sounds like youre playing badly with confidence and timing. its nothing you can tap the beat to or sing to unless youre one of the few with impeccable timing
What makes you say he playing it badly? The way he hits the drum, the emotion, or something else? I'm not here to flame, just curious
if you listen to this style regularly you can bob your head and tap the beat to it. and btw, not every part of the world has music that is primarily in 4/4. middle eastern countries' average songs are in time signatures that westerners would consider "complex" or "odd." it's all subjective and a matter of what you grew up with and the culture you were born into. now the world is sort of becoming one big culture through the internet, and i wouldn't doubt that in about 50 years "complex" "odd" time signatures will become completely normal in everyday music. don't knock what you choose not to understand.
***** one of the most well put replies ever
***** I agree with all of this, but I strongly disagree with ' in about 50 years "complex" "odd" time signatures will become completely normal in everyday music.' Just because more people have access to ways to listen to worldly music, doesn't mean they will. Many people who aren't looking to broaden their musical horizons will likely just keep listening to whatever they hear on the radio.
its like you cant really play anything wrong if its close to like every 32nd beat, and then theres off beats...
One of the best sounding kits I've heard!
Wow. He plays ambidextrously. Beautiful.
Super clean man, Especially those bass notes with the left foot! Awesome job!
Really amazing!! a lot of control of both foots and hands! good technique!
Really love the kick drum sound, nice and punchy!
Damn that left foot dominant is trippen me out!! Nice work Alex!!! Earned another subscriber 64k and climbing!
Great cover man! also, the fact that you are able to pull off Travis Orbins setup is insane. I've always been intrigued with his style, but i myself find it incredibly difficult to lead and be dominant with the left hand and foot. Covering a song of the aptitude of Tempting Time with that setup only pours salt in my wounds XD Phenomenal job.
Aside from the skill set you posses, beautiful kit. Ambidextrous as heck.
Great cover man! Really, that's awesome!
I love that at 2:45 you keep the proper accents on the hihat. That was my one beef with the way Navene used to play it.
That was unbelievable, excellent performance :)
Oh my God...Out of this world
..Amazing
that left foot lead stuff was surreal! great playing guy, keep it up.
You hella rock bro! Great job. Love the drums
I can’t believe Alex doesn’t show off his left hand/foot lead. His dexterity is unreal
What a beautiful mind. Absolutely ambidextrous.
love the tightness in your drumming, props
loved watching you play man
Your snare sounds amazing!
This is phenomenal
brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
I couldnt sleep 1 week after i saw this!!! AMAZING
