I swear to god if Animal as Leaders don’t play Red Miso on their next tour, I will continue to support and listen to everything they put out.
Lmao
Excellent comment. Party on, dude.
We don’t have a choice, do we? Hahaha
I was hoping they would play Conflicted Cartography, it's the best song :(
@@Cestariarts nah micro agressions best
3:02 Actually, Matt's just so mathematically advanced at drumming, he single-handedly defied the law of spacetime and bent the fabric of reality.
Was waiting for this comment 😂😂
such a dubstep move in a good way!
He bent the fabric of that shirt too.
I see! So he didn’t mean video edit, but more so him editing space and time as we know it!
The Multiverse of Mattness
Effing AMAZING!! 👏👏👏
When cover??
can i request this on your next stream??!
@@SkylaneMusic
exactly
ohhh yurrrr
Please Samus, don't watch this again. We don't wanna you die
Just like Matt's clothes, his Cymbals are also getting a lot brighter, reminiscing his "Tooth and Claw" days! 😁
I mean, he's always had some bright thin crashes. All the rest of his cymbals are either sanded or mostly dry.
What? He used the Extra Dry cymbals on that album hahah
Homie has had a major glow up!
As musicians and drummers in particular, I think you just have to sit back and appreciate how difficult a song like this is to pull off. Such smooth and flawless playing, easily one of the best out there
The ability to create music like this is much more impressive than actually playing it too
This is by far one of the most difficult drum tracks I have heard to date.. just so many beautiful little numbers, all lined up.
@@flaw-finder TRUE. i always think like "wow that's actually not that hard to play," but i've heard it countless times and practiced it. i can't even imagine coming up with this shit on my own...
I can't even play an instrument anymore and here I am just in total awe of Matt's ability
this man was born to study and perfect the art and craft of the drums, a true master of this instrument. it's such a rare thing and so beautiful and magical to see someone utterly dominate the kit with such complete independence and mastery of almost every possible rhythmic element. just extraordinary. He's the next Danny Carey for me, just pushing the genre to the limits!
There are probably less than a thousand people on this rock that have mastered drumming in such a way like Matt. Crazy to think about how lucky we are to live at the same time as this man.
Less than a thousand? Probably less than five.
You put three words in a right sentence..."time" and "this man", and the end, they are one
How do you know if your in time with Matt when his snare and accents all over the place lol
@@jonathanmellqvist2 same way any professional band does - you all understand and feel the current time and don't rely on any single musician to baby it for you.
It's called rhythm and something guitarists have been lazy at for the past few decades.
@@mrbananaman8032 I know haha I was just trying to be funny
The fill at 0:52 between the ride/hh/china is so subtle yet perfectly placed, I don't think it get's enough credit for how much of an impact it has on the track 🔥
so clean. It matches the guitar perfectly
They're like dancing symbals. It's so pleasing to the ears.
Extremely tasteful
It’s a beautiful nuance
It's only fitting I find you here dude! lol
He's been reading his comments on his tie-dye 😁
Also, seeing this song performed gives me a much greater appreciation of what's going on!
Maybe his lady prefers him in tie dye...
@@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power tosins bf loves it
2:37 Never heard anything quite like that before. Absolutely insane blast beat with ridiculous accents
It's so funny how I thought seeing the video would help me understand that section at all... Honestly I'm even more confused now.
the ultimate bucks eights down up down up down up down down down up up up blast
I think he was doing thirty-seconds between his stack and his snare, with weirdly placed accents
i didn't notice how cool that part was the first time. those accents in the left hand make it so much more insane. sounds like 5 counts of 3 and then a count of 4 with that snare landing on the 4th beat, but it's 'prolly something way crazier
@@memeperor_ it's a wild guess but i think that if we assume the bass drum kicks at 32nds,the blast beat hits at dotted 16ths. i have heard this idea many times from matt and i get the feeling that something like that is happening. he hits the blast beat every third 32nd on the kick.
As a drummer I’ve heard this song for about thousands times over. I cannot comprehend how hard this is to play. So advanced drumming and timing and yet a good song to listen to. I cannot believe how perfect Garstkas slow drumming is also. To play that fast and also mastering the slow part with pauses is insanely good. Is nice to read other peoples comments about which their favorites parts is in this song. It’s fun to rewind and listen carefully for those fills. My favourite part is at 3.32. I mean how beautiful can you make a drums sound like that! I got goosebumps every time!
0:31 This cymbal fill made me fall in love with this song instanteniously the first time I heard it.
That stack fill is perfect in every way.
The quality of the tone of both the drums and cymbals is 100% to be credited to the cotton balls.
So, this is why my kit and playing don't sound like his!!! thank you for the tip!
Cotton balls?! 🤯
😂
The movement at 3:29 onwards to create that sound is so satisfying
That beat he drops into at 3:32 is so unbelievably dope
Someone give this guy a medal. One of the best drummers to ever hold sticks. Mind blowing performance.
Seeing this band live was one of the greatest musical experiences I’ve ever had. They’re out of this world.
The first minute and a half of this song is some of the most beautifully groovy and creative drumming ever. The rest of it is typically extraordinary, as is expected when you're dealing with Garstka.
Also the fill at 0:51 is one of the most tasteful little patterns I've heard in a while.
I was about to comment this, when i first heard it on the album i was hoping to see it on the playthrough because it sounds so INTENTIONAL. Such a beautiful detail.
Agreed. So subtle, off-kilter, and creative.
i love little fills like that. they always catch my attention.
Those stack grooves blow me away every time I watch this
that fill rented an apartment in my mind. it's so good.
I don't know whats more impressive, the playing in the song or the creativity in the parts. Insane. May be the best AAL song to date.
Genuinely the most insane drum play through I’ve probably ever seen.
As a drummer (who probably will do 100 times less than a quarter of his act), i think, after His performances the concept of drumming will be changed forever. One of a kind, special. So grateful to live in his times
Yes. He is forcing producers to consider him as an artist instead of a beat machine.
There is no ignoring it.
Agree 100% he is on the Peart, Portnoy, Rich level of musical progression. There will only be the influenced until another Master arises from the ashes in the future.
As a huge fan of jazz, jazz fusion and metal (as well as being a very meh drummer) - this is just incredible. I cannot take my eyes or ears of Matt's playing, unbelievably complex from start to finish, yet sooo groovy! One of the truly special drummers on this planet
Been a fan since CAFO exploded into existence. Parrhesia is their best album personally. And Red Miso is the highlight. Masterful.
I like this album the best also 🔥 🥁
BRO SAME!
Joy of motion is a masterpiece…this is right up there with it….little darker sound like Weightless. Love it.
When I first heard monomyth my mind exploded
The Joy of Motion is a straight-up masterpiece
I watch this night after night, for months and months, after drinking a lot.
I wonder if this man is a musical angel
I've decided he is
It's insane that this guy just keeps getting better. Nobody holds a candle to Matt
I love this. As much as I also love the more crazy AAL songs, the toned down/intricate sound hits different for me.
Especially love the double hit open hi-hat pattern - gives me Bonnie the Cat (Porcupine Tree) vibes.
Are you implying that this track isnt crazy?
And like in PT's song it's in 4/4 I think, with exception the whole phrase being two times longer. Not 100% sure though but great point with that hi-hat pattern similarity.
2:29-2:40 is so much fun man. This dude is the gold standard and really has been for a few years now.
The production in this is incredible. You can hear every bit of the kit with so much clarity and definition. It's like Matt is drumming in my room. So good with the HD681.
As a guitarist and bass guitarist, it’s funny how I’ve always loved the drummers most in AAL. First Navene and now Matt. These drummers have inspired me on so many levels with an instrument I know seemingly nothing about but they are just masters and such innovative writers as well.
Yes!! I wanted to see Matt play this track so bad
Don't worry he's recorded the playthroughs for all songs, even asahi 🤣
@@thatdudeparra8803 For Asahi he can just sit back and have a beer lol
I love how Tosin is like, Ohh I'm gonna write something Matt couldn't possibly play for real and Matt is like 'hold my beer' = D
The universe needs a T-Shirt that says Matt Garskta. Hold my beer =D
@@Hellhunde64 Surely, seeing as it's The Bearded Garstka, the T-shirt should read 'Matt Garstka- "Hold my weights" ' 😄
i cant stop listening to this, that opening groove is special.......i dont just throw that word around either, matt you really thought your way thru this song so well
That wasn't what I was expecting when thinking of "edit at 3:01" 🤣
Incredible song, incredible arrangements, incredible performance. Matt is a legendary drummer already and he’s still so young.
These drums go through my head every second of every day and I still can’t make sense of them haha 💚
Glad I’m not alone 😅
We don’t have to understand cuz the universe does🤔
I cant stop watching this
Best Friday music surprise I could have asked for! Love me some Red Miso!
Matt is so f'n creative. I love watching him play. Love the sound of all of his signature cymbals. I really want that shirt. I think he should sell his own Garstka tie-dye shirts. I know they would sell out in an instant. He's truly at the top of the food chain when it comes to drumming. Hats off! For us drum nerds, we are so fortunate to be living in the times of Garstka and Animals as Leaders. Props to Misha Mansoor as well.
"He can break 3 cymbals with one swing of the stick." 😂😂 Hell ya brother.
I'm so happy you're playing dw kits now Matt, match made in heaven
Probably the best performance I’ve ever seen. Holy shit.
I've been awaiting this one since the album released. Glad it's here to enjoy now. 🥰
Just incredible playing, Matt.
Absolutely insane Matt ! So complex and beautiful
I never saw someone play like this drums...this guy looks like a real drums surgeon ...amazing ¡¡¡¡¡¡
I hope they play this live, I can already hear the crowd cheering when the solo comes in.
That crash glitch is gonna haunt me forever😂🔥
its so fluid, its incredible to watch you play Matt.
My favorite off of the new album. You sound amazing. Thank you for the constant inspiration!!!
I am such a sucker for that stack work. God damn, gets me every time.
Dude! Same here. Love those new stacks and what he's been doing with them. On Gordian Naught too! Then adding them into the older songs live.
I think this is my favorite Animals song. So sweet!
That change at 1:16 has to be the coolest hi-hat beat I've heard.
Lost count of how many times I came back here to see this masterpiece
It's not entirely my cup of tea as, but as always, I just can't help myself to sit back and watch this in absolute awe. He is the absolute master of time amongst the pros.
I was just studying this track today on the kit and really enjoy playing the synchopteradactyl breakdown. Was wondering about some things and so pleasantly surprised to find this manifested by my brain this evening.
I was hoping they would showcase this song! Thanks a lot!
As always.. I love this! very complex yet enjoyable, impressive!!
Maybe it's easy to overlook the fact what we listen today it' sampled edited and polished to a level which an amateur drummer like me can sound incredible.
So looking him doing these things it's just simply amazing.
If only drum Corp was considered cooler, people's minds would be blown on what can be done live with drums.
PURE SKILL AND TALENT.
I just can't stop listening to this album. It's so good, it sounds amazing.
Legendary! I love the new sounds!
waiting for this one!
Best song of the album hands down.
Absolutely beautiful!!
Omg, I love everything about this video! Matt plays like a God!
Animals As Leaders wins, flawless victory! 🤘🌞🏹✨🍻
Glitch in the matrix at 3:02
NO EDITS!
Those toms and bass drums sound incredible!
This is the most metal Matt playthrough ive ever seen!! Freaken awesome!!!
2:10 oh my god this is my second favorite song on the album after micro-aggressions
My favorite composition from this album🙏❤️
I can't get over the awesomeness of his live performances. Making the most insane things looks so effortless is a sign of an amazing musician
The way hes so relaxed and feeling the music is the one thing that always strikes me about matt. He’s definitely gained my respect as one of the elite drummers alive right now.
Woo-Hoo! Red Miso!!!
Saw them live in São Paulo last month. It was by far one of the best shows I've seen. These guys are amazing.
Everything Matt does is absolutely insane but his cymbal work on this song really bricks me up!
Best song on the album
The Best Drummer!!!
Man I have to say I'm in love with the new stuff and I'm very happy gettin' a lot of new inspiration. Back to the practice room for some double bass and pattern workout!
These are without a doubt, some of the most beautifully executed metric modulations I've ever heard in my life.
Gotta love the cotton balls in the rack toms
Man, matt is an absolute unit.
So when's that ride coming out? 😉
Pretty sure that’s a Byzance dual ride
Edit: nevermind 😅
@@binobones why doubt his abilities like that?
I hear that! Got excited when I thought it was the Dual...but alas, no. Shit, Matt's a product of R&D at this point lol.
@@binobones Juice…steroids???
Edit bc now I looked at his IG. He deadlifted 405 last year and benched 250, you seriously think it takes roids to get those numbers? You’re an absolute weakling my guy. And at 33 years old…he’s not that old. Still should have plenty of test in his system to perform like that. Easy. 405 deadlift takes like 1-2 years from absolute beginner if you’re training properly.
@@binobones "the juice" Matt ain't juicing, just look at his shoulders, they aren't massive abnormal spheres. This bulk up is exactly what you would expect from a natty guy in his early 30s who has been lifting heavy for 2 or 3 years.
Insane bro I can’t stop watching this video. New favorite drummer 🤘
That drum set is gorgeous 😍
3:02 thats exactly how I feel when that part kicks in lmao! So good.
I love how honest he is
Wowzer, you're getting much better Matt!
So good!! Love the doubles
Bass drum flams are under rated
Who mixes these videos? Always amazed by the sound
All other versions AAL release of the album that aren’t Matt’s playthroughs are just the percussive nerfed versions, I really do wish AAL posted Matt’s playthrough audios to Apple Music/Soundcloud/Spotify etc.
@@flaw-finder I didn't know his playthrough videos were the "Unleashed" drum parts. Badaaaaaasssss
The snare sound is soooo dopeee love that
FANTASTIC!!! Way excellent playing for creative drumming.... The bar of "good" is raised once again!
Not only exceptional musicianship, but damn I love the song composition as well; it feels very organic/grooving and not overly progy / mathmathical / lacking heart. You might just have to grab a singer one day - I swear I could hear voices on this one. Well done.
This track is a little more organic than the others on the album, but still so punchy. Unbelievably good sounding kit!
DW drums +Matt Gartska=Unreal
Simply incredible.
3:02 no edits btw
Edit: I missed and assumed the disclaimer in the beginning would be the same as usual. I just wanted to be funny, for once in my life.
He mentioned it in the beginning
its named in the intro
I missed that. I’ve seen all his playthroughs and assumed it was the same briefing, I just wanted to be funny for once in my life.
You can't fault anyone for not reading the disclaimer completely with that much tie-dye on the screen. 😁
@@353darkesthour 😂its fine, when i saw your comment i just checked and it was pretty funny, cause yea his other playthrough he said no editing. He even said the moment he edited 😂
over how many sessions did it take you to do all the takes for your playthrus? how many hours to get the perfect takes? I see you made a compromise at 3:03, just wondering what your time commitment to these sessions was bc they're amazing and live you're playing the songs so well
3:03 wasn't a compromise, it was intentional. In the original song itself, that specific phrase, the audio in the span of that one 16th note, was just cut, copied, and pasted 4 times across that beat. It's meant to give it an unnatural, artificial feeling.
Matt does this live every gig, wouldn't be surprised if this was just one or two takes.
Watching Matt this last week on UA-cam has made it official. I’m down with this band and can’t wait to see them.
You make it look easy! What a talent
He is morse coding with Aliens
I don't even play drums, but I have the same respect for all three of you. We have hit something new with musicians in this past decade or so.
