  • The GR-300 lacks Filter Modulation, a staple of Analog Synthesizers. This video shows how to use the OBNE, Old Blood Noise Effects - Expression Ramper to modulate the GR-300 filter using the filter pedal input in the GR-300.
A big shout out to Ian Thompson who brought this to my attention! Thanks Ian!

I run my GR300 through a bunch of stomp boxes. but this is a cool mod without actually modding the hardware which i would never do to my GR300. if it aint broke dont fix it.

I tested this with a modular LFO output both square and sine and it works as well, it's a CV input, so it should take compatible CV modulation sources.

I bought a Roland GR-300 and 303 synth guitar as my main rig whle touring in my rock band in the 1980's. I loved the sounds as well as the guitar itself. By the way, we toured Northern Ontario and the Maritime Provinces hiring a young signer, Eileen (Shania) Twain. Yes the one and only Shania Twain. She was a young and talented rock singer with a powerful voice. Who know that she was to become the amazing and successfull artist that she became. Anyways, back to the guitar. Continued playing until the early 1990's where I gave up music altogether, packed everything up, storing my gear in the attic for over 25+ years until 2020, when I retired and picked the guitar once again. I took out the Roland guitar and synth which brought back great memories. I am now ready to sell or exchange the Synth guitar for a pro acoustic or dobro guitar. Will let you and subscribers know when I plan to sell the guitar to see if anyone would be interested to purchase or exchange. Keep up producing these great videos.

What would you be willing to sell the 303 for?

I wonder if there's a way to do this from a sequencer...

I will try this with the Korg SQ-1, it outputs CVS that might work. Great question!

I do a simlar thing but with the expression pedal output from a universal audio hot hand wah filter. The hothand ring becomes the expression pedal.

Is there any way you could do a deep dive on the GR-300? How it works and all the sounds you can get out of it? I'm interested in getting one but at the moment they're too expensive. I'd love to learn more about how they work but there isn't a whole lot of easy to find knowledge about them besides your channel. Thanks

Great stuff, qq, I own a few GP-10s which have a GR-300 synth model built right in. Do you know if the same effect can be configured in the GP-10 without the use of this filter box? I'd really love to map some of the great sounds you are getting out of the GR-300 in the GP-10 too, have you ever attempted this?
