The Boss GP-10 does a really amazing job of emulating the legendary Roland GR-300. This video shows you how to make a few adjustments to factory patch 3 GR-300 LEAD to match the sound of Pat Metheny's GR-300.
Im disappointed with the Gr 300 tones in the Gm 800. Just not even close.
I would agree.
I wish there was a plugin that did this. Or a way to connect a digital guitar midi thing such as Jam Origin into the boss tone studio so I could play around with this tone without having to buy hardware
This is very good. Thanks. It covers the "As It Is" solo which I think is the best use of the Roland midi guitar in any song, any time. The live Japan version is very good.
Agreed! One of my favorite albums. What a great line up.
Wow !! Sounds amazing !!
For sure!
THANKS, WJ!
You are welcome!
Wow thanks, so close!! Do you by any chance have a clue how metheny got the distorted sound on 'the roots of coincidence'?
I saw that tour, I believe he was using a VG-8 at the time. I recall he was working with the VG-8 when it came out.
Tnx man. I just get gp10 to use with godin lgxt. Just to reach new horizon on my creative mind.
Yes, “We are going with you!” another idea producing video, thanks Wayne!
Micki Micki!!! Great to hear from you, glad you enjoyed the video!
this is really cool. thank you.
very very nice tipps. And wow that GP10 is great. And did I say thanks?
Was using the Korg Z3 all these years, or actual was not using it. In comparison its really clumsy.
I am glad you found the video helpful!
Hi Wayne,
Great video for setting up GR-300 sound on GP-10. Thanks. Can you recommend a soft synth which is similar to GR-300 as I'm also using a Roland GI-20 midi interface? Cheers
Unfortunately I cannot think of any soft synth that creates synthesis in the same way. The sound generation in the GR-300 is driving by string vibration, rather than a control voltage or key/off command.
Excellent video! Of the SY and GR synths, which is your preferred “go to” for the GR300 sound?
They are all great, I am using the SY-1000 now, but I think the VG-99 still sounds excellent is is MUCH more user friendly for editing and performance.
Hi Wayne, Thanks for another excellent and informative video! Of all the GR-300 emulations (Roland GR-55, Boss G-10, etc,) which do you think comes closest to the sound that Pat achieves with the actual GR-300?
They all work equally well to me, I cannot hear any differences in the emulation. The SY-1000 has more CPU power, but it can do 3 GR-300 emulations at the same time. I don't think the SY-1000 does it any better than the VG-99 or GR-55, GP-10, etc.
@@WayneJoness Mr. Wayne, do you think the feeling or latency is the same in all those units? I tought the VG´s had better tracking because there´s no audio to midi conversion?
I think they are all pretty much the same, with very little latency.
Wayne very cool video. I'm the guy who sent you speed/time tests for gr300 and many synths midi a lot of years ago. I have bought this gp 10 and in my opinion the gr300 patch is faulty . I've spent a lot of time to set up at the best the pickup to see if this was a problem, anyway in the sound one octave up there is always a noise like a double note, like some kind of distortion that makes the sound unusable for long notes. Of course i completely removed normal pu sound and stopped any other string to avoid resonance from them. As soon as possible I'll try to send you a clear sample of what I say. Also the attack for me is orrible , its noisy and scratchy and that is not normal on my gr300 this doesnt happen... good attempt roland , may be next time ...😅
Well, that is weird, what guitar/GK pickup are you using?
@@WayneJoness no matter what kind of guitar is the same on all of my guitars... gk3 gk2a...steinberger yamaha..no matter changing gk settings
@@claudioflabiano372 So, do you hear the same issues you are describing when you listen to this video I made with the GP-10? I do not hear a 'double note' in this video, and the attack to me sounds accurate. Are you saying your GP-10 sounds different than the GP-10 heard in this video?
@@WayneJoness the problem is on octave up, long notes high notes these kind of notes are not played on your video I've done a sample track I'll send you email or FB
