I love the lukewarm reception (as if they were like who the hell is this?) and the crazy applause at the end. They love them as much as the rest of the world! Give those ladies three minutes and they can win over anyone.
The audience isn't miked to keep them from overshadowing the performance as is common in a lot of their live recordings. When the camera turns on them, everyone is smiling and laughing.

It seemed that they'd overlaid laughter on to it because when they actually looked at the audience, they didn't seem to be laughing as much as it sounded. Maybe they were poking a bit too much fun? :P

Honestly, I think it's more to do with the fact that they were waiting for awards and they were probably on edge… you never know how your film's going to be taken. I definitely saw a few people laughing, but when you're at an award's ceremony and your work is up it's a bit like waiting for exam results.
Well, their talent is not so much musical as humorist. It's all about the cynical humour of lyrics and contrast it makes with the over-cheerful singing (obviously "tongue-in-cheek"). Y'know.
