Fantastic footage from the good old days when locos ruled the rails. Would have been great to go on the H set and the J with P trailing. Plenty of great clips in this one as always has been in the series. Hopefully there is more to come as well at some point? Great stuff
Victoria certainly has had its monies worth out of the Harris cars, still running today. VR was renown for being thrifty, I remember they used the traction bogies off the old Tait power cars for the "Y" class I think? I didn't mind the "VLine" colour scheme as long as it was kept clean. Privatisation more or less seen the end of the "N" class working freight too. What's in the louvre van usually behind loco hauled country trains? Maybe head end generators or do PTV still do parcel services? Excellent video John, thanks for posting, aaah the memories!
What a great video & the clarity was awesome. In 1988 I was attending Footscray TAFE & catch the train from Sunshine to Footscray. Had school mates from Bacchus Marsh & Sunbury. Some days we would wait for our trains to arrive at Footscray. Everything was V Line Orange. The Sunbury train sometimes would have the old red wagons & 1st generation T Class pulling them, same with the Kyneton train. The Geelong would always be a A Class which sounded very powerful back in the day. Everything for the country people looked dirty & worn out, old wooden carriages with no A/C etc. To think that was a way of life 32 years ago, we have come a long way. The C Class what can I say. I moved to Adelaide in 1989 & used to hitch hike between Melbourne & Adelaide for 5 years etc. Another story. Never forget where the railway line meets the highway near Trawalla. You be in a noisy old modern truck, then a trio of C Class will come out of no where just edging the semi on speed & the whole cabin will vibrate from the C Class powering up to notch 8. Running neck & neck with a trio of C Class on the Western Highway before Beaufort, out of Horsham, before Dimboola, you didn't have to see them. Just the noise, horn & vibration they made was enough, & they would hook into it too keeping up with the speeding overnight truck's. Ah the good old days. Great video thoroughly enjoyed it ☺ 👍
Hi John nice video good to see some steam action seeing J515 with the H sets and P22 now that is rare good to see some sprinters as well i enjoyed the video very much.
There's that gantlet track again. Triple Cs on broad gauge with staff exchanges still intact - sensory overload - Nurse! Actually there was some quite dramatic footage in this vid esp after the halfway point. Yep you picked up a sub. Cheers.
Wow. Great video. Kind of a shame that washing locos was neglected at the time. I have fond memories of that era - particularly riding in SoP carriages on Swan Hill trains.
My friend. Very very Beautifull with interesting and impressed video.. These views are motivated to me. and motivated to my Channel also.. very appreciable work.. carry-on your greate job.. ❤️❤️
My modelling era. The entire series is great reference material.
That's great , glad to help out
it sure is, i now realize i need a P22 in orange & grey lol at some point, among a few other things eventually.
The Sprinter in Met livery. I had totally forgotten. Excellent video, thanks for sharing.

Terrific memories of the last days of B and T in general service..and also Jets via Newport..always a great sight in 8th notch!
Thanks, the EMD had a unique sound that's for sure.
Very Nicely done JP3!
I knew you would enjoy the C class shots

The vans you see are for parcels service , the ones with open louvers and painted grey are power vans
@@johnphillips592 Thanks John, I see they are still using them as recently as 2019 when I was at Seymour, behind N class passenger trains.

Thanks , good to see the video brought back some fond memories to you
3:36 people just hanging out the doors LOL that would never be allowed now
It all seemed so modern then. So too ordinary for me to film.
Seeing this, how wrong was I !
Glad you took the time and effort to film these scenes.
I have this thought about vlos
Thanks , John, yes we do tend to take modern stuff as everyday but it will be history at some time , glad you enjoyed the video .
Just great flash backs cheers Robert

Thanks , lucky I was able to sneak in that steam shot as there were diesels in the same shot
Wondering if the Newport jets went to Adelaide via the plurisy plains as a fuel and other factors test of where the future standard gauge should go.
As far as I know they went that way to free up the direct line to Ballarat
