The Ford Galaxie is a full-sized car that was built in the United States by Ford for model years 1959 through to 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford's full-size range from 1958 until 1961, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race. For 1962, all full-size Fords wore the Galaxie badge, with "500" and "500/XL" denoting the higher series. The Galaxie 500/LTD was introduced for 1965 followed by the Galaxie 500 7-Litre for 1966. The Galaxie 500 prefix was dropped from the LTD in 1966, and from the XL in 1967;[2] however the basic series structuring levels were maintained. The "regular" Galaxie 500 continued below the LTD as Ford's mid-level full-size model from 1965 until its demise at the end of the 1974 model year.[3]:401-42
The Galaxie was the competitor to the high-volume full sized Chevrolet Impala.[4]
The similarly named Ford Galaxy is a large car/minivan available in the European market. The vehicle's name is believed to be derived from the original Ford Galaxie.
The 1969 model was built on a new platform with a 121-inch (3,100 mm) wheelbase. It was the end for the 427 and 428 engines, save for only the police package versions which continued to use the 360 hp 428 P Code 'Police Interceptor' as their top motor for 1969-70.[4] Replacing the FE series-based 427 and 428 engines was the new 429 cu in (7.0 L) "ThunderJet" that was introduced in the 1968 Ford Thunderbird; it was part of the new Ford 385 engine series. Power, at 360 hp (270 kW) for the dual-exhaust 4-barrel version, was higher than the 428's 345 hp (257 kW) and lower than the racing-bred 427's final rating of 390 hp (290 kW); there was also a single-exhaust 2-barrel version with 320 hp (240 kW) available.
Galaxies for model year 1970 received minor trim changes. A new ignition lock was located on the right side of the steering column. Model year 1970 was the last year for the XL,[4] but Galaxie 500 hardtop coupes were also available in both formal-roof and SportsRoof body styles. The optional 4-speed manual transmission, which was available on the 429 the year prior, was dropped for 1970.
Diamonds Are Forever is a 1971 spy film and the seventh in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions. It is the sixth and final Eon film to star Sean Connery, who returned to the role as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond, having declined to reprise the role in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969).
The film is based on Ian Fleming's 1956 novel of the same name, and is the second of four James Bond films directed by Guy Hamilton. The story has Bond impersonating a diamond smuggler to infiltrate a smuggling ring, and soon uncovering a plot by his old enemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld to use the diamonds to build a space-based laser weapon. Bond has to battle his enemy for one last time, to stop the smuggling and stall Blofeld's plan of destroying Washington, D.C., and extorting the world with nuclear supremacy.
The producers were inspired by Goldfinger; as with that film, Guy Hamilton was hired to direct, and Shirley Bassey performed vocals on the title theme song. Locations included Las Vegas, California, Amsterdam and Lufthansa's hangar in West Germany.
That's a beautiful model. I love the interior and the red and blue sirens. It reminds me of when I was in La Habra, California, when my classmate's dad drove his police car towards the playground in 1979. His police car had red and blue sirens. People should know about La Habra, California because that's the same town in which Richard Nixon used to practice law.
Nice build like it. My grandpa bought a brand new 1968 Ford Galaxie 2 door with a Cleveland 391 in it and man it would fly. Great memories
Timothy Burnette 351 Cleveland.
Jim’s Model car garage thank you. I thought that didn’t sound right lol
Timothy Burnette I figured it was a mistake, Ford did have a 390 engine.
Very cool!
I love coming home after 10 hours and finding one of your vids in my feed; relaxing and informative. That big Ford looks fantastic! I've seen you use the nutmeg on several interiors, and I really like the elegant simplicity of it.
Welcome aboard!
Once again another awesome build. Love to see police vehicles from different decades. Going to get this one for sure!
Glad you like it!
Just ordered mine can't wait to build it
Another cool build. These quick simple kits are fun.
Glad you like them!
You're a wellspring of helpful modeling advice. Love the tire scuffing technique with the drill and socket. Totally using that on my next build! I'm finally finishing up my first two cars, '70 Trans Am and '66 GTO, after many paint and clear lessons I had to learn the hard way. Lots of resanding, repainting, and a trip to the purple pond.
Practice makes it easier, you'll get it and have more and more fun!
Hi Chris since this kit is based on the original 1970 LTD 4 door hardtop promo, you can build this kit as a factory stock 1970 Galaxie 500 4 door hardtop by excising the B post and vent windows. For wheels I suggest the,"turbine" stock wheels and whitewall tires from any AMT 1970 Chevy Impala kit (Ford offered a similar looking wheel option). If I'm not mistaken most 1970 Ford police cruisers would have been barebones Custom sedans :-)
Thanks for the nice words!
Thanks for bringing this up...the roof line is dummied up a bit with the vent windows and b pillar with door frames to represent a 4 door sedan. It's not totally accurate for a 4 door sedan, but close. And yes I doubt many agencies used a Galaxie 500. Most would have used a Custom. and some did specify Custom 500's as they were slightly easier to sell in 2 years.
It looks fantastic! This is the second model I have seen you use the Washi Tape and the results look good so I will pick up a roll. Thanks for sharing this.
Really appreciate and enjoying your videos. Of late, you have been demonstrating more hand painting, using modpodge, a lot of little details, etc. which is wonderfully welcomed. One of the best scale modelling tutorials on the web. You make it look so easy....cheers and thank you.
Thank you very much!
SO SWEET , SOO KOOOOOLLLL.
Nice build . Mike Espo .
Thanks man!
Seems this level of model building would be good dexterity exercise for a surgeon.
I bet it would!
You nailed the interior PERFECT
Thanks for the nice words!
Looks sweet! I love the weathered back seats haha! I'm trying to follow your way of building models, keep it fun! not perfect!
Awesome! I built the earlier release , used a 302 from an AMT '66 Mustang - swapped 'em out. Great stuff!!
Great build..i wished that they would make a 1971 & 1972 ford LTD sedan model kit😊😊😊
Thanks for the visit to the show!
Very nice model, you did again a great job 👍 I can hear the sirens howling ! 😁
Cool, thanks!
Great build as usual, the colors work perfectly together. Thank you for sharing. I started using the washi tape for my painting also because it's a heck of a lot cheaper than 3m and works just as well. Stay safe and healthy and remember to smile
Thanks a lot Teddy!
Period perfect Chris, this really came out great! Looks exactly like the radio cars from my rookie days!!
Right on!
A very Sharp looking build!!.. She looks all ready to go on patrol!!.. Keep up the great work Bud!!
Right on!
Nice police car - love the little shotgun inside. Thanks
Thanks Mary!
The interior came out great - like the whole kit! That wheels are really vool.
Thanks that they reissued the beautiful sedan.
Pretty nice Boss 429 engine in this kit!
I really like this police kit build great job 👍🏻😁
I love this kit. I did a San Francisco Yellow Cab from this.
Cool!
I'm so glad they came out with this kit. I've been wanting to do a diorama of the cop car trying to chase down two cars street racing back in the day. Love the build! Awesome job as usual! Keep up the good work!
That would be cool!
Well done Chris. Shades of Chicago cop car.
Another amazing build Chris. You always pick the best colors especially for the interior. Great work 👍👍
Thanks a bunch!
I'd love someone do the 73 Custom 500 from the White Lightening/Gator movies. That was a pretty bad ass Ford.
Love those flicks!
I believe it was a 1971 Ford Custom 500 that Reynolds drove in the White Lightning movie. One of my favorite Reynolds movies 👍
I’m just going to use this kit to make one similar to Gators, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a 71 Ford Custom 500 Model kit, be damned nice if someone did put that out.
I remember when indianapolis used these
@@hensleyshobbies-doug7761 Missing Link resin did a 71 Galaxie 500 four door kit. It uses the chassis from the 70 Galaxie kits. I believe the 69-71 fords shared the same chassis design.
If I ever do plastic kits again, the stuff I've gotten from your builds will really be helpful. Just the right amount of detail, and techniques that really work. The tip on dollar store superglue alone, was worthwhile! Very instructive to see how you do the painting!
Great job Chris love the old police cars great build i think i might have add this one to my collection
You should!
Nice!
The color scheme of this one is the same as the old Chicago Police Cars of my youth.
Thanks!
Nicely done Chris I enjoy your model building.
Thank you kindly!
Great looking car. Love the 4 doors. Thanks for sharing Chris.
Thanks for watching!
Kinda cool to see some 4dr options. Another cool build.
Excellent as always, I'm so glad that Round 2 are re-releasing these kits, this was a super rare kit just a few years ago !.
Nerd alert Aktshually fact......that engine in the kit was apparently the first engine AMT could get their hands on from their inventory.
When this kit was originally released in 1972 it was originally based off the 1970 LTD kit which was a promo, hence the engine blanking plate
A Boss 429 would never be in a Galaxie from standard but the folks at AMT wanted a big muscle engine for the new for 72 Police Interceptor kit !
Boss 429 only available 69 and 70 in mustang.
@@albrannick4894 Exactly that !, And that's the kit AMT pulled this engine from.
Thanks a lot for the insight and info Gary!
Love that hodge podge for clear parts. It works soo well and a fraction of the cost of the clear parts glues.
Yes it does!
Really good looking kit!! Love the bright blue. Gonna look for this kit for myself. Thanks Hpiguys
Glad you like it!
Super cool! Big block Fords are always cool. Thanks for sharing. 😎
Thanks for watching!
Of Course it's a fancy fancy engine!! IT'S VEGAS BABY!!!!
Thanks for the nice words!
I hate being crammed up in those new cruisers !
Unreal work, loved the Bloke who played the Cop in the movie.
Motor came up a treat and working with a sharpie is My favourite tip, amazing once You get the Knack, thanks for that.
Love it, glass is perfect too, beauty Hpi, great stuff thanks.
oh i missed that kit to buy in my country it was little more expeniseve and now i regret i do not have this one.!!
amazing review
Another great build Chris
The car reminds me of the one my dad had when I was learning to drive. The same color of blue and model of Ford. Btw... I love using the silver sharpies on my kits, thanks for showing that technique!
Right on!
Keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
~I am not the best model car builder but they still come out pretty good~but I can remember a time when my mom use to take me uptown to Woolworth's and I use to go to the model car section as they were displayed in a tray type cabinet and bringing one of them home, either it be AMT, MPC, Lindberg, Monogram or Johann~and the thing that stands out the most about back then to now is how sturdy the plastic and model was formed~the point I am getting at is when you pieced it all together it was screwed with bumper from chassis to body and even the windows were slipped through ringed tabs and the interior tub was attached there too without glue~even had metal axles that fit the wheels and the wheels were sturdy for you to put the wheel coverings on them with the wheel backs~models are really not the same as they use to be but this model brings back the old days of building them~thanks~
A lot of well detailed parts in this kit...
26:01 wow, great channel, I've been missing out for years!
I'm having trouble understanding the radio setup. Is there supposed to be this perpendicular line down the middle of the radio holder to separate something? Also, it looks like they want the lower chrome part facing upward. Can you show a detailed side view of radio?
Awesome as always Chris
I wished they would have included the LTD grille with hideaway headlights
I wish they would reissue the 1970 LTD 4 door hard top kit!
You can easily take two galaxie grilles and make your own LTD grille
As usual, another great video. Enjoy your vacation.
Thank you! Will do!
Great build as usual Chris.
Thanks 👍
Your trademark Testers silver again.
But wait! Isn't that a manual 4-speed you're painting?
That must make for some cool coffee-break drag races! (And with no floor-shift.)
Nice shiny paint job....
Thank you! Cheers!
This would also make a cool detective’s car as well.
Looks so freaking cool dude
Thanks!
Awesome work as usual Chris! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic job...looks great 👍🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
😎 decals with this kit too!!
Turned Out just Policeachy 😉😉😉😉😉😉, LOL,,,, Okay I Like It Sir, thanks for Sharing n God Bless All.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another super build/video! Tires on the drill to wear down the treads. Genius! You always mention using Future floor polish for applying a gloss finish. Ive never tried it. Just brush it on? Brush strokes disappear? I usually use a spray gloss like testors glosscote. Thanks!
Great build
I don't think there is a more beautiful motor than the boss 429. I love the look of chevy 409 and you can't forget the exotic ford sohc 427 but the boss 9 just look beastly and they are.
Nothing like a Ford big block! 👍
@@tonylantzer390 ABSOLUTELY !!!!
Love it turned out great and now I need one
Thanks Cliff!
Excellent job! I wish they bring back the Motor city series back. The 70 LTD is so cool.
Thanks for sharing this great build, it would be nice to see more older emergency vehicles or modern vehicles, I trust you are keeping safe in these troubled timex, very best regards from Australia.
Looks GREAT!!
Thanks!!
O M G - looks REAL to me.
Thanks for the nice words!
Nice job on the small fine details too!!
On my computer/monitor, that blue looks like Periwinkel(AMC color of the 70's). Nice build as always Chris!
Cool, thanks!
If one noticed the interior of the model it’s the same as the’70 LTD promo which is what the kit is based on. Also I have a difficult time trying to find the future floor polish where can you find it at
Walmart carries it in my area.
the martin or the submarine car would be so cool!another nice build chris
Yeah! Thanks for the nice words!
Another awesome build
What are some tips I can use to build these kits?Because I have a 70 Chevelle coming in and I have a failed Monte Carlo and I’m nervous about messing up
"Messing up" is part of the learning curve! A good way to minimize same is to do a "deep dive" into Chris' channel, as "Pigeyes" offers a vertible encyclopedia of "How-to" tips and techniques! Besides, watching Chris in action is a "boot camp" in in itself!
When I was about 5 years old I remember my grandfather would have tons of model cars in his work shop. Any car you could think of he had. I'm 17 now and starting to get into the hobby as well.
Very cool, enjoy your new hobby and make sure to have FUN!
Can this one drive sideways in a narrow alley?
During 1969-70 AMT and other kit manufacturers put Boss 429 engines in a number of cars that never had them available. This is one of those kits. I wish they had included the option of 429 Thunder Jet heads and valve covers. I guess when I get ready to build one of these kits, I will have to make resin copies of the right parts from some other kit. Maybe the Revell 70 Cobra kit.
The Boss 429 in this kit was always a mystery. I built one a long time ago with the 428 from the '66 Galaxie.
I used the 429 from the 70 torino
I noticed you are using Tamiya Decal solution. How does it compare to Micorset/Microsol? If the decal is a bit thick and do not conform after first application would second application of Tamiya Solution lift the decal (on some decals...cough..Academy..cough.. i have to make three or four applications of the MicroSol)? Also wondering if you have any feedback on the Tamiya Strong Decal solution.
Great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Molded in blue. I could make it look like a Montreal, Vancouver, RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) Police car you would see in Canada in 1970.
I like the 1970 Ford Galaxie 500 taxicab which can be a New York City yellow cab or a Toronto Police car. The box art on the taxicab shows that building at LAX Los Angeles international airport.
What color can I use for Québec blue ?
Funny that this kit has a manual transmission and a big Boss 429 Ford V-8 for this application. Adding a red '71 Mustang Mach 1 would make for a heck of a set!
Beautifully detailed as usual 👍
Right on!
😎 detail parts with this kit too!!
Awesome. I was just looking into this kit last night. Was wondering what came in the box. Thanks, great channel.
Glad I could help!
I didn't think this old (new-old 😜) kit would build up very nice, but it sure turned out looking sweet, Chris! I really like it, I may order one up next order and build mine more of a detective's "plain wrapper" type of police car. I don't build as often as I used to (or nearly as often as I order/buy a kit thinking that I will, haha!), but I've started a new project this week using AMT's Coca Cola '53 F100 reissue that you built a while back, using some techniques I'd known about for years but had never tried (weathering techniques), so I had to go back and watch your build of it a couple times for inspiration, LOL! I'll share it on your FB once (IF) it's (ever) finished. Happy weekend when it gets here, great video, my friend 😁✌
Enjoy, looking forward to seeijng it!
as always Awesome build
Thanks again!
@@hpiguy your welcome
Looks really nice ! Would look awesome as the car Gator drove
That would be cool!
Is there a resin conversion anywhere to do the '72 500 conversion?
I have a question if you mess up with the sharpie how hard is it to remove it? Do you use alcohol or thinner?
Rubbing alcohol works, but be careful and use a q tip.
Looks nice!
It was!
Do you sand them and then spray them with primer??
Deep dish steelies love it !
Looks great. Only missing your cb antenna on trunk. Love the result. Looks great
They hid it in the trunk, it's not a county cruiser. :)
Cool job
Thanks!
Back in the 70's - 80's I had a sonic controlled police car that looked like this one. It would go forward in a straight line and it had a central hidden wheel between the front wheel so when you made it reverse it would reverse in a circle. The hidden central wheel would pivot 90 degrees which made the car reverse in a circle. It was a bit bigger that 1/24 scale.
Very Nice build brother I love it
Glad you like it!
@@hpiguy yes sir
Getting the radio equipment to fit in there is a pain in the ass so far.
What is that black wash? And what the spring loaded body holder thing called?
I'm thinking about buying the Revell™ Foxbody LX 5.0 dragster but I'm not certain about it, can u do a review?
Can’t really vouch for the dragster version, but I did get the SSP police version years ago, I never got around to building it but the quality was good and had excellent detail to it. That ones discontinued though but the dragster is readily available.
@@kennyduarte783 thanks! It's Coming in tomorrow!
