  • How cheap is a Battery saw vs a petrol-powered saw? 🪫 🤔
    Here we find out!
    A battery saw is definitely cheaper to run, but will take a while to offset the outlay of batteries. 🔋
    Honestly, I can only recommend current battery products - of which this is the best I’ve used - if you’re putting in some heavy usage (enough to pay off the battery investment) or really need the lower operating volume. 🔊

    As for consumption, this is the case, but I have serious doubts that the electric motor will last as long as the thermal one. With intense use, the electric could be changed even after two / three years (and also see the battery status), while the heat engine, treated well, can last up to 10 years. We must also calculate this. I still have little information on the life of the electric motor. We will see in a couple of years when there will be more information and statistics. Anyway when possible, I also prefer electric, but on hard work, thermal for now.
    Nice video man 👍

      I know what you mean mate and I agree - but the amount we use these saws at work we don’t really expect more than a couple of years out of them…
      Obviously I’m hammering it a bit in this video too lol
      I did however check out the motor specs before I bought it with your considerations in mind and you can get replacement motor units pretty easily if it does give up 👍

    interesting topic. There is a bit more to it though. like difference in initial cost, maintenance costs, cost of mix oil, and perhaps most importantly how many recharges your battery is going to last -(likely only in the hundreds rather than thousands of cycles.) And in the US, some areas have much higher electricity and/or gas/petrol costs than others, so YMMV a lot. To somebody who uses the saw infrequently, though, the reduced maintenance and ease of use of the electric is a big plus I think.

      I agree, that was kind my subtle point - the running cost is much lower, but the cost of the batteries massively overshadows that at the moment... I think you needed to get like 800 recharges to make your money back in savings over petrol and you're right - no battery will last that long!

    For 2$ u can get enough gas with red armor 2 stroke oil to fill the 2511 5 times. At 50 cuts per tank, you are looking at ~250 cuts. You would need to purchase 4 more batteries at 150$ each for the 2500 to get the same amount of cuts. Thats 600$ worth of batteries to do what you can with 2$ worth of gas. It would take roughly 85 gallons of gas/2stroke to equal 600$. Thats enough gas to run the 2511 for 65-75 years..

      Yeahh… if nothing else I think this just proves even under the best circumstances, battery saws aren’t quite there yet! …or rather, the saws actually are, but the batteries aren’t!

    we run 6 of these dcs2500´s great little pruning saws. how do you find the oiling with them? we have consistent problems with the bars blocking up and excess oil inside the side casing, doesn't seem to matter what we do on any of them.

    • @NotYourAverageTreeMan
      @NotYourAverageTreeMan  Рік тому

      Not had any issues to be honest mate but I can see how that oiler plate could lift up and channel oil away from the bar - bit of a design flaw actually… needs a tiny little screw just to hold that plate against the saw body 👍

      Honestly, factoring in the cost of batteries, I’d only recommend it if you can make use of the low noise and/or really want a new toy, or to fulfill any eco-social responsibilities for business bids etc - otherwise a 2511t will be more cost effective…

    Hello bud, good vid. I have the battery echo and it’s got a problem where the light on the on/off button is flashing around 4 times a second and it won’t turn off. Any chance you know what the problem is?

    • @NotYourAverageTreeMan
      @NotYourAverageTreeMan  Рік тому

      Yes mate one of three things - either the chainbrake is on, battery is dead, or motor is overheating - if the chain break isn’t ‘on’ and you can eliminate the other two, it could be the mechanical interface between the chain break and the electronics

    • @gerbutt

      @@NotYourAverageTreeMan thanks bud. I’m thinking maybe the latter. It’s the button on top that’s not turning off, I have to take the battery out to totally turn the saw off. The chain brake did snap but it still ran fine for a while. It’s a strange one bud!

    How long does the battery take to charge

    • @NotYourAverageTreeMan
      @NotYourAverageTreeMan  Рік тому +1

      Takes about 15/20mins - pretty fast IMO… the charger has cooling fans like most high end chargers to maximise potential charging speed…

    Does the 2500 feel much heavier than the 2511?

    • @NotYourAverageTreeMan
      @NotYourAverageTreeMan  Рік тому +1

      No it actually weighs in lighter with the older battery & oil than the 2511T with fuel & oil - the new battery brings it about 100g heavier than the 2511 which is pretty nominal. Why I'll use this over the 2511 whenever I can is for the harness clip that lets you put the saw on your rack one handed whilst still holding the handle

      Now lets see how you get your keys, pack all
      saws into trunk, get into your car, go to petrol station, fill that jerrycan, go to dealer, buy 2 stroke oil, get back, mix all up, refill. Then start, wait for the engine to heat up and cut.
      You will have 2 batteries full by that time.
      And yeah, average european arborist is good with less than 2 batteries a day for pruning jobs (which this chainsaw is made for).
