I kept my bike track on, use for keeping my pop up awning and chairs on.saves space in van .saw you cruising the mean streets of St Ives.

I wish you would’ve started the video with a quick rundown of the van’s specs. Engine, transmission, year model etc.

I like your honesty and ingenuity after you screwed up. You paint job wasn't that great so you improvised and the end result a really great. I personally think lowing a camper and putting LP alloys is a foolish idea and you have suffered as a result. The exterior of my Vivaro is the complete opposite, it is boring and 100% functional and the original wheels/tyres and 110bhp is plenty.
"YOU DON'T GO AWAY TO WATCH TELLY" A man after my own heart, my van is for adventure, even at 72, leaving you comfort zone at home, whatever that may be. 8 years ago I bought an 08 van for £3.2k spent about £2k on parts, R&R bed, SMEV and swivel double seat and my money now is spent on travel, diesel, a few tolls and an odd beer and coffee.
I think your van looks great, but my Vivaro whilst not in the same coolness league is reliable and to me that is everything...you pays your money and takes your choice. I think pop-tops are, well it's a tent, get a little folding fishing stool, my missus sits down to cook in the rear seat, I sit down to wash up. I used to camp a lot, so you learn to dress sitting down.
Top class as always Lee. The van still looks ace with the vinyl, sits well against the grey. I would love to see some camping videos mate, hope you share some of those 😎👍🏽

Nice to see someone showing their “normal” van that doesn’t look like they’ve spent 3 weeks a day cleaning and polishing it! Nice looking van, makes my T5 look boring, although I’m not a fan of all the units in a van, just a rock n roll bed and an inverter wired into the leisure battery in mine. Need my captains chairs re covering though, yours look awesome

I got a t30 transporter 2005 with genuine 10000 miles no cam chain or timing belt 150 bhp ideal for a conversion.
6000 is a fantastic price .

The best swivel seat. I know is a Kirvans, and they are not overly expensive to memory.
Nice Van, and good to know where some of the mileage limits are for those major pieces - I was always under the impression the VW vans were pretty good up to 200k, and beyond that you are in the lap of the gods.
Agree - re: Kitchen - My van has a Northern Rose kitchen fitted, and it seems decent.
And the pop top - I had a West Dubs fitted to mine, as I like being able to stand up at times - and it is useful when you are not wild camping, as my canvas has a scenic mode where you can literally sit in the roof with the canvas peeled away - and its nice on a hot evening with a cold beer.
Agree with the roof. I’ll look at getting one some point.
From what I gather the engines are good for high mileage. The gearbox and running gear are the weak points as it’s basically just vw golf stuff pulling a lot more weight.
Hopefully it’s good for another 200. The rest of the van is fine. Runs lovely and smooth
@@SpyderLEE Forgot to add last night when I made the comment - if you do punt for a roof - take a close look at West Dubs. I know people will have preferences about what roof you put on the van. But I was back at the place who fitted mine, and the people who own it took a call from someone who had a van built by another company, with a West Dubs van which had a problem. The company who built it had gone bust, but the roof was technically still in warranty.
The people who took the call, spoke to west dubs direct, and because they are an approved roof fitter - West Dubs have agreed to fix the broken roof during the winter when the van is off the road.
So when you do, punt for it, think carefully about which roof, and who fits it.

Another awesome video Lee. About the spoiler, would it be an idea to sell it with the bike rack and maybe swap spoilers with the buyer? Saves the cutting, but obvs you may have a colour issue lol!
The spoilers are a pain, bonded on. I’ll get around to it at some point 🤷♂️
The seatbelt that's not retracting might just need cleaning. Pull it all the way out, clean and dry it then it will probably function normally again. Saves replacing it so worth a try.
I was hoping the same but sadly not. I tried that. It’s definitely broken. It was just a cheap eBay one

I'm also a fellow MR2 owner and a T5 owner too.
We bought the van converted already and after doing some work on it, I've realised its a bag of shite conversion.
I'm gradually putting things right with it, had a refurbed auto transmission put in, mines on 185k. I've sorted out the birds nest of electrics, replaced all the front end with a face-lift to T5.1., I've got a swb but like the wind out awning, can you get sides for them ??
Also pondering the pop top too. I'm 6'2" and cooking getting dressed etc is a right mare but think we will pull the trigger on it but have it side lifting rather than front.
Also considering ripping all of the interior out and going for a U shape config.
Also found out that there's not a scrap of insulation in it either.

Insulation makes such a difference and I do really like winter camping. I’ve been noticing the u shape config a lot and really like it.

It was some spray paint specially made for plastic. It dyed the pigment rather than painting. From Halfords. I’m not sure if they still sell it
I know it's your own van and you know what's wrong with it. But to me, it looks like a flipping palace. If I had one, I'd never have to fear a barney with the Mrs and a night or three in the spare room ever again. I could give her the finger, grab my van keys and be gone before she even had the chance to start throwing stuff at me!

£699 for a recon exchange from a place called ratio gearboxes in wrotham. Price has probably gone up by now though
