    Thank you. Fabulous video. But we are biased as the one with the copper sink is ours. John, Katie and their team at Dirty Weekender have been fabulous to work with. We met them at the show in 2022 and were hooked on the idea of creating a bespoke van. They have listened to our ideas and made brilliant suggestions along the way. We trust them completely. It is our first ever van and we have even been abroad for the duration of the build doing design tweaks by message or phone call. Your video was the first time we saw the completed van which we have now picked up and tested on a very successful weekend. It’s clear from the comments that van choice and style are very personal. We wouldn’t dream of having a coach built van or anything bigger than the one we’ve got; but I understand why some might. Each to their own I guess. In the meantime, we are very happy with ours.

    You show the RIB bed. I have one in my T6.1. However I find that due to the wheel arch height it is 7cm higher than normal so feet cannot be placed on the floor. The headrests don't lift high enough for an adult to use safely. Have you looked at this? I spoke to the chap from Cambridge Campers who told me they hammered down the arch as much as possible and there is no more they can do about it. BTW, I am really enjoying your videos, keep it up.

    What isn’t mentioned is the amp hour capacity of the lithium batteries, or how many watts the solar panels can produce. Inverter hobs are 2.2kw, and a typical solar panel maybe 150 watts. Big big difference. Also what happens to thr warranty when these small converters go bust, when people with £100k+ to spend go for bigger camper vans from more established manufacturers?

    • @StaycationLifestyle
      @StaycationLifestyle  7 місяців тому

      The batteries are spec’d by the customer and can be significantly larger than you normally see. The solar panels would be a minimum of 300w for that kind of setup, still relatively small though if you had the hob maxed out.
      Regarding the companies going bust, it’s hard to say, would be dependant on circumstances, what’s gone wrong etc.
      A few have gone bust in recent times, not sure what happened to warranty claims. Some also re setup, wonder if the honoured claims after “name change” 🤷🏻‍♂️

      There are other brand but they are mostly Motorhomes.
      Tonight’s video has Mercedes and Man.
      VW’s are popular due to the heritage, people buy the badge, they buy for the better residual values, for the wider range of aftermarket parts, for the large following of like minded owners, the gatherings etc.
      They aren’t for everyone, but this channel has been predominantly VW since I started it (to help VW owners/buyers)

    Of course there are alternatives from a £1 million Earth roamer camper to a tent and a £500 car.
    You miss the point, In that you can have a brand new camper conversion in an Elgrand or Alphard for around the £18k mark and that includes the vehicle that come with between 250 & 289 bhp V6 , 4x4, luxury leather interior, twin powered doors and tailgate etc etc, with full service history 40-50k miles and are a better quality and reliability than the VW offering.
    There is also a 'scene' for if you into that sort of thing, and if you are a boy racer then the 280bhp versions make mincemeat of any VW van on the road.
    There is no logic in spending £80+k on a camper, its just daft, so daft in fact that Im mulling over some ideas on the back of decades campervaning experience for some 'must haves' to bring to market for the VW camper scene, as I want in on the action of liberating these types of their hard earned cash.
    Each to their own I guess.

    • @StaycationLifestyle
      @StaycationLifestyle  7 місяців тому

      The very last sentence sums up everything. People choose to spend their money how they wish. As crazy as the price may seem.
      We know you can spend less, but no matter what anyone says, people will still spend how they wish.
      They could choose a cheap car, as it does the same as an expensive one. A cheap house, because it still has the same function as a more expensive one. Food and drink, people prefer different brands.
      People spend big money on Apple products, but don’t the cheaper ones do the same?
      I am of course coming up with ridiculous statements here, because the value is found by the purchaser.
      I appreciate the Elgrand and the Allhard, but I wouldn’t buy one, nor several other models.
      I would however like a Marco Polo, but they are crazy money too.
      I couldn’t spend £80k on a camper and I do understand your point, but it’s your last line what means these vans will continue to sell AND retain strong sale values going forward.

      It’s difficult to argue against them when they are so popular and many people enjoy holidays in them every year.
      Would it be more comfortable in a bigger vehicle? Absolutely yes, but there is compromise as in the daily driver aspect.

The width of them are only the width of a van and the length can be parked in any normal space . Only restriction would be height barriers . They are mostly less expensive than the California vans . People buy all sorts of different things in life from completely different requirements but I do believe that a lot of people who come into the leisure vehicle market by way of California vans are not aware of the less expensive but much more versatile alternatives but hey each to there own . This is nuts these prices, I've been campervaning for over 4 decades and I can say with some authority that you do not need to spend this kind of money to go campervaning.
    For example for £15-£18 k you can have a 2010 luxury spec Nissan Elgrand campervan with 250hp, 4x4, twin sliding electric doors, birds eye surround cameras, satnav, front and rear ac, etc etc, with about 40-50k miles and all you need for a fantastic camping trip. Then spend the £50 -60k you save by taking more time off work to go away in your van.
    Its not rocket science kids, don't be fooled by this nonsense.

    • @StaycationLifestyle
      @StaycationLifestyle  7 місяців тому

      You’re right, but the same could be said about anything, it’s about choice. You could buy a Nissan Micra instead of an expensive car.
      I totally get your point, these prices have gone crazy. You don’t even need to spend £15k on an Elgrand though, you could get the same campervanning experience from a £5k van and save even more money though.
      People buy these for different reasons. Some enjoy the “Transporter Scene” the strong residuals, the aftermarket options.
      Have you seen the price of some of the new Mercedes Sprinter conversions? Getting towards nearly £200k

    • @IronMountainx
      @IronMountainx 7 місяців тому

      @@StaycationLifestyle Of course there are alternatives from a £1 million Earth roamer camper to a tent and a £500 car.

      There is a shower and a toilet.
      Are you aware of the base van costs? Yes you could easily buy another brand for much less, however generally have far worse residuals in the future.
      Doesn’t particularly matter what vehicle you have you can still visit the same places.
      This size van is a daily driver, used for general tasks as well as a camper.
      You could buy a much bigger van with toilet and shower cubicle, but would probably be too big for a daily.
      For reference though, these £60k vans, where £39,999 only a few years ago. The base van price has largely driven that increase

    Maybe its me, but I cant fathom why people would spend 140K on a van that of that size no matter how well its spec'ed out. I dont mean to sound judgemental, each to their own, to me they are way to small and cramped.
    No doubt they have the advantage of being smaller giving access to parking, easier to drive and cheaper to run etc.

    WARNING, before you splash out £65K, by 2028 46% of all vans sold must be fully electric. Otherwise manufactures incure a £15K fine for every non ZEV van sold. This will mean a lot of petrol stations will start to disappear or be converted to EV charging. Your loverly Transporter may crash in value. . .

    • @StaycationLifestyle
      @StaycationLifestyle  11 місяців тому +1

      I think it will be quite sometime before we start seeing petrol stations disappearing.
      Isn’t it meant to be 70% by 2030 also? It’s going to happen quite quick (unless things change again)
      There is currently very limited options for a campervan which is fully electric. We will see more hybrids over the next year or so.
      What will happen to prices is a good question, there are arguments for both values reducing and also increasing
