I don't know how I got here, but I found this house tour! Thank you for an introduction to a Japanese home. As for the cicadas, I grew up in Texas, so I'm super used to them but that is really *really* loud! 😅 How exciting to have such a great home - congratulations!!!

I love your tardis house! It looks so small from the outside angle, but inside there's such clever ways of maximising space.
I hope you'll have many happy times in your home

@@anthonydelrey1699 are you really comparing Las Vegas with Tokyo? Tokyo has a population of 40 mil people, Las Vegas is like 3 mil people, that's less than 10% of Tokyo. You should compare with the prices in NYC. You can offer whatever you want, let's see what you get for 215,000 in Tokyo hahaha.

    • @BeckBeckGo
      @BeckBeckGo Рік тому +3

How the hell did they find this space for that price in TOKYO??

    • @KoinzellGaming
      @KoinzellGaming 10 місяців тому +7

This is nothing (In terms of what you could really get in Japan).
I mean, if you're willing to live in a city that's an hour away from Tokyo by train, you can find really nice houses that are up to 1300sq ft for about 150k USD (with all the stores you need in a walking distance). The house in this video still has a "Tokyo price" to it. Same is with apartments, you can find apartments slightly outside of Tokyo for like 400USD a month, or if you buy it you could buy one for 60k (+renovate it) or so.
Not to mention that Japan has some of the most generous home loan rates you can find - less than 1% annually in a lot of cases.
Summary: Japan has some of the most generous housing markets you can find if you're willing to live outside of Tokyo - in some cases you could also get a free house or get money to move in (tho a contract has to be signed that you won't leave) if you don't mind living in a small town in the countryside.

Okay your house is freaking awesome. I've been curious about the layout since you announced you bought it, and it's a lot more open and spacious than I thought it was gonna be. I love that it's brand new and they were able to modify it to accommodate Eric. Love what you've done with it! I really dig the view of the natures you've got out of the kitchen and Eric's office. I really want to help you guys decorate - not that you need it, but I used to be certified in interior decoration and the walls in there are just screaming for a little color (just as an accent, nothing massive). Love the t-shirt wall and the little dark corner of the kitchen, the whole place just looks great. Thanks so much for the tour and congratulations again on scoring such a great house! Congratulation on the new house! This is no small adventure for Japan. I lived (stationed) in Tachikawa between 1964 and 1966 then moved to Matsumoto until 1974 and married a Japanese girl. We also bought a house on the side of the mountains. I totally feel your delight and excitement. Then because of the fuel shortage (rationing) we were forced to return to the US. We sold the house after 5 years and made a nice profit. My first wife died and I remarried another Japanese girl. We are back in Tachikawa for the first time in 48 years. Tachikawa use to be a dump with the military base but after the base closure in 1977, Tachikawa rebuilt into a modern first class city. Good luck on your new adventure and maybe I’ll see you on the streets as I’ll be around town until November.

I lived in Japan for two years, from 2003-2005. It was fun to see what has changed, and what has stayed the same.
    Same:
    • Cicedas (or semis in Japanese)... omg, the cicedas!! No, really, omg!!! (This video doesn't do any justice for how loud they truly are, especially during their "boom" year. It's insane!)
    • trash disposal/recycling process (I absolutely love how diligent the Japanese are about it.)
    • the genkan - the area just inside the door to remove and set your shoes
    • the narrow steps going up/downstairs
    • the bathroom layout
    • the tiny bathtub
    • the fact there's usually only one toilet in the entire house
    • the on-demand water-heating system at your sink and shower (tankless, very efficient)
    • the AC units in select rooms (you didn't mention anything about heating the place, but I had two kerosene heaters that I would move from room to room where I needed them. The rest of the house was always very cold in winter.)
    • the size of the washing machine (I truly loathed the washing machine because it didn't effectively wash the clothes. It just "swished" things around for only a few minutes before completing the cycle, rinsing, and switching off. I always had to handwash my intimates, workout clothes, and anything I actually sweat in to make sure they were clean. It was incredibly frustrating. Also, there was no option for hot water, so everything was washed in cold.)
    • no room for large, bulky furniture
    • the closets with no drawers or hanging rods (they were often just lined with deep shelves to fold and set your clothes - designed, really, for storing kimonos/yukatas)
    • the parking spot for a single car (there is typically only space for one car, and there is no street parking, so a bigger family is very constrained to using either the public transportation system, a bike, or a moped.)
    Different:
    • Are your outter walls insulated? (They look insulated, and the fact you can shut out the noise from the cicedas suggests those walls are insulated. Back in the day, the Japanese did not insulate their houses because the condensation from the humidity caused mold issues.)
    • no built-in tatami mats?
    • you had a dishwasher??!
    • convection oven appliance rather than a traditional oven
    • the new toilet where you can wash your hands above the tank and later reuse the water to flush
    • the folding/accordion closet doors rather than sliding closet doors (so smooth, too!)
    • layered lighting!!
    • a second door lock near the bottom of the door?
Thoughts: my favorite purchases were my solid granite yukimi lantern, ceramic tea set, and some art work. And the best thing of all was getting to experience their amazing culture, food, art, and scenery. I love the Japanese people! ❤

Congratulations on your new house! Eric looks most happy about the high kitchen countertops and that he doesn’t bash his head on the stairs in the toilet! Love the bathroom! Modular bathrooms are one of Japan’s greatest inventions (along with washlets)! Haven’t seen those taps before with the push button but definitely want them when we get a house in Japan! Thank you so much for sharing your home and the buying process of your house! Where to put the bikes is the million Yen question! 😻

If it was my place I'd use the spare living room space for a dining table, but of course that's up to you guys. On one hand the windows are great for natural lighting etc. but on the other hand because of the huge windows you can't place any big things or storage in there 🤔

Just FYI, the underfloor storage is called 床下収納. You can buy them separately from Yodobashi or from building companies like Lixil. There are even sliding versions so you can push it aside to check the foundation/flooring when needed.

Such a cute house, and that you even have an outdoor patio in Tokyo, is amazing!❤ Do you need an insect net if you sit outside? If so, maybe like the Florida type could work. It's like a framework thingy with insect net.
I was thinking, in the bedroom, one would think that the closet doors could've been half the size horizontally, that way a dresser could be placed in front of it for extra storage.
If moving to Japan, one has to get rid of alot of "stuff", so I guess it's fine, storage like, for what? ... 😂❤🏡

Hi. Congratulation with your new home . it looks nice, and if you are in for it some art or picture will make it nice. I hope you will think about the trouble you might have with the high humidity you have on the loft, and when you dry clothes, it will be so important to get the humidity out. I been living in Asia for years, and i see all the places that get fungus in their homes, and get health problems. So many people struggle with health problem because of humidity. i think you will have a great home there, and i hope you take this as a advice, and not a person that just comes to make a bad attitude. Wish you all the best. Best wishes from Jan in Norway

If you ever see this...the stained tupperware can be cleaned by using dawn and warm water and a papertowel swirled inside. The fridge door should be able to switch sides it opens from. Hope that helps. Great vid.

It's so pretty! It makes me happy that Eric has enough space now. I know he jokes about it, but it has to be a pain. And not good for his neck/posture.
Also, is it weird to be in love with a toilet? Are these fancy ones the standard in most homes? I can't imagine having one! If I had the money, it's one of the few "luxury" items I would want in a home. I love how Japanese bathrooms are set up with the toilet/bathing area separate. It was odd to me at first. But I think I could get used to it. They make the American style look like we're a bunch of savages.

It's not a loft... it's a finished attic with a window. You can install an air circulator from the roof into the ceiling. This will keep the room from creating still air.
