@@nightfire2933 there are 4 polar patterns: 1. Cardioid. This is probably the ideal one since it captures the front of the mic and ignores the rest (Icon looks kinda like a butt) 2. Bidirectional. A reason why the HyperX didn't sound so great is because it's on the Omni-directional setting meaning its pretty much piking up everything. Change it to cardioid and it might sound better.

i got the HyperX because the options for sound, shockmount, the simplicity of the mute button when someone suddenly walks in to talk and the color fits my stream
Bought HyperX because Samson was 200€ here vs HyperX 150€. I do love the mic. It looks pretty and is easy to use. The sound is def good enough for games and meetings 😊
As a Samson G-Track Pro user, this makes me happy. However, I found that this mic has issues on plenty of systems. For one, you need to set the microphone sample rate to "2 channel 24 bit, 44100hz (Studio Quality)" or the 48000hz variant or else the mic with it's use of default drivers on windows tends to pitch the output down if the software used to talk over (Discord for example) switches from one device to the other Reverting it makes the pitch shift happen. Changing the sample rate prevents that. You'll know when that bug happens when the green light at the mute button starts flashing green and red rapidly. The other is that due to it's weight it's hard to mount on a microphone arm. The one I have works with the shockmount mentioned in the video but even then, the shockmount sometimes just droops down due to the mic's weight and makes it very awkward while streaming. Edit: The shockmount wasn't originally designed for the G-Track Pro. while it is labeled as such, it was for the older model, the G-Track pro screws on fine but makes reaching the knobs to finetune sensitivity a chore as they almost hide behind the spider frame and the volume knob is below the ring, suspended on the elastic bands
@@envic9747 Still cardiod. The first two settings is directional audio, like hearing it in your left or right ear. Cardiod takes the sound from the front and makes a dead zone on the back of it. Which could help dampen the noise of keyboard typing. Last one takes sound from the front and back, so it's really only useful if you're doing like an across a table podcast or interview and you use just the one mic
@@danespilman8213 The yeti is very close with the hyperx quadcast, and I believe thr Samson G Whatever its called. In the video the hyperx quadcast was misrepresented because he had it set to the wrong polar pattern. Or it was pointed the wrong way, I forget.
I own the HyperX and you had it on the worst and thinnest setting. The omni-directional makes it sound pretty weak and terrible. The bi-directional is by far the best, it gives detailed highs and it somehow gives it the low-end you liked in the Samson.
How about Cardioid? I'm really thinking if i should get it or not and was shocked when I heard the quality in the video. Then I found your comment. Is there any difference in quality between bi-directional and cardioid?
@@dacejoy02 Cardioid is the second worse setting on the mic. It too, is a bit thin sounding. The stereo and bidirectional have the same EQ signature, but the stereo requires that you speak in the center unless you're down mixing to mono. That leaves bidirectional the clear winner. I've owned a Shure sm7b since 2011 to do, at the time, some voice over work and it's great. This was before it was popular with content makers outside the pro audio scene. But it requires some hefty accessories to make it sound it's best and in some cases, even half decent. I had been looking for a solid USB mic for a few years and upon hearing it in a couple of videos along with seeing its features and price point, it felt like a no brainer. I have no regrets purchasing it.
@@ryanwaasdorp I've been clearly only referring to sound quality, and bidirectional is king here. And the only reason one might think that cardioid is the better option as far it's intended target consumer, is because they probably think it will reduce the capture of their keyboard clicks and sorry to say, this mic is a condenser so it captures just about everything regardless. For that matter, if the HyperX really was intended for streamers and such who wanted to only capture their voice, a dynamic mic design was the far better option. Hence, why so many influencers use dynamic mics. Yes, the cardioid setting captures slightly less background sound, but the quality dip is not worth it. And as of this past week, if one has a Nvidia gpu like I do, there is really no reason not to use Nvidia's RTXVoice software. It's a game changer and allows me to speak into the HyperX as if it were a dynamic microphone -- with a fan right on me at full power and only a foot away from the mic; it's just amazing tech. If one doesn't have a Nvidia gpu, well, there are noise gates and compressors that could be applied via other means.
@@DOMINOSMOFO I am not a gamer. I am going to buy a microphone this week. I have been watching video's for about 4 days now on Microphones and boom arms. #1 I am going to record my books in my voice. #2 For youtube Video's. #3 I am also going to use it for streaming live on youtube etc... so I won't be banging on the keyboard like a gamer would. What Microphone do you recommend for this? I had it down to Blue Yet $129 or the HyperX for $139...
I'd have to say that I think the best bang for the HyperX just nails every department. I studied audio engineering as well and while there is a noticeable low end difference between it and the samson it's not something a simple EQ wouldn't fix (if you really wanted that tone). If you're going just for voiceover work I'd say pick the Samson but if you want something that not only sounds good but looks great and eye catching on stream, the Hyperx is the move.
Idk I own the hyper x and I don't know why it sounds like it does in this video I thought it sounded clean when I recorded with it compared to a JLab it's better either way I got mine cheap enough I'm not upset
@Leafsio depends on your budget and goals. If you’re wanting to stay around like $100 then it’s hard to beat a blue yeti for the price. Only other one I’d recommend would be the at2020 usb variant. If you can spring about $300 a Focusrite scarlet 2i2 and at2020 are a great place to start on the XLR world and will give you a ton of options for expansion later. Better headroom and preamps for clearer sound and more control in this setup but more money and work. Depends on your goals
@@None-dx7gu how bout “they’re both good mics”? there is no “best mic”, everyone sounds different based on the signal chain. Use what you like, plain and simple
Thank you for the review of the Hyper X. I have purchased the Hyper X QuadCast "S" version and installed the NGENUITY software. This included software makes the mic so much better. I can adjust MIC VOLUME, MIC MONITORING and HEADSET VOLUME. I have my IEMs plugged into the mic and can monitor my audio. I would give this mic a 10 in this investment level. Again, thanks for the review :-) Cheers, Jay
On studio monitor headphones, I noticed the difference in the "talking loud on stream". It was picking up more of the nasal resonance (in the range of what you call low notes), that made it sound much more natural. In the "talking quiet" the difference is there, but less notable as they both sound good for that range.
The Samson G-Track Pro has the best sound, and the best overall here IMO. I think it's unfair to include the Razer Seiren here, as it's in a lower price range and meant to be a tier lower than the other three.
Alpha Gaming: "I want you to hear the differences between these microphones back to back." Also Alpha Gaming: *Puts a midroll ad in the middle of the microphone test*
@@darkwolf780 Last time I had a channel with ads enabled, I could control when the midroll ad played. There are even UA-camrs that will add suspense specifically before the midroll ad.
some time ago, youtube actually auto-opted in all videos of all content creators to midroll ads, and forcing content creators to manually opt-out per-video for their entire backlog. Relatively recently youtube simply announced that they have the right to monetize everything on their platform, including videos of non-partnered channels. Most of the time, content creators aren't shoving ads in your face, youtube is.
The HyperX just sounds the most natural to me. The Blue and the Samson sounds crisp and all, but you definitely know that the person behind that mic is using a microphone. I feel like the HyperX does a really good job at emulating what it sounds like when you talk to a person IRL, that the others simply don't. HyperX wins for me in pretty much every category as well.
Yeah I feel that like I get confused when people sound like they're in the same room as me but they're on a mic and they're like we got hyperx quadcastS
Its mostly because if you're focusing on audio performance, you huddle the microphone at the perfect distance to get the best audio. Here he's just sitting in a chair trying to talk. When I stream, I'm not huddling my microphone trying to sound like DDoI. I'm sitting back trying to play.
thats something i was wondering too !, i had the USB at2020 for almost 2 years and then i upgraded to the XLR version and tbh there is a huge difference but it gets complicated specially after i start getting a toot sound every 15 seconds or so and i cant find out why i tried changed the xlr cable and whatever but it didnt work so i went back to the usb one !
Cade Aldridge While I love the 2005 (It's my current) the problem is that it's a dynamic microphone. Again from a technical standpoint, that's fine, however streamers need to have visual elements to their streams, and quite often, it's hard to make a dynamic mic look good. I'm well aware that these aren't all visually appealing, heck, I'd say the Yeti is the worst looking mic to mount ever, but they still have that element a dynamic doesn't. Also Condenser mics just aren't as well liked
I was very close to getting the Rode. Aesthetically, I think it's gorgeous. I ended up going with the Samson though, because of function, weight, and low-end since I have a deep voice.

I am waiting for mine and after this test, iI'm thankfull for your comment. Do you think the lack of sound quality he got might have anything to do with the pickup pattern? (He uses the omni-directional pickup pattern as seen on the knob. Maybe cardio pickup is sounding better, what do you think?
@@Pleumel I know a few weeks later, but yes the pattern change to cardio will help a lot. I found it hard to discribe the "issue" I had when comparing my Quadcast to my previous Rode USB mic and what you hear on this video is what i found as well, it's subtle, to be honest not bad, but I remembered I had 4 pattern options and switched to Cardio and it massively changes it. Certainly play around - the quadcast looks the part and it does the job very well! I am however tempted by the Samson if I ever changed again. PS. the Rode USB mic is a VERY good mic that I only changed away from because my sister "borrowed" it for a prolonged time.
I used a g track pro and it was good. Another streamer bought me a quadcast x and I can confirm that it is better. If Harris used the proper settings, it would sound better. I have a deep voice as well, deeper then Harris, and the quadcast picks everything up and makes for a cleaner, fuller sound on stream. If the g track pro is the yeti killer, a properly setup quadcast is the king of them all for the price imo.

At 22.00 when you said 'this is pointing forward' - the word 'this' was lovely and warm when you were right up to the mic and then the bass and warmth dropped out the moment you moved your head back. It's really difficult to choose - if you are gaming and the mic can stay in shot then you can keep it in front of your face and close to your lips but if you are streaming other things you may want it further away from your face and may need a different mic with a different envelope pattern. You might even want it out of shot completely. It's a very complicated subject. I'd agree the Samson sounded the nicest in these positions in the positions you tested them - and that in itself is useful. I'm trying to set up a streaming studio for an Professor to do lectures from. It's a biggish room with four cameras to cut between and he'll have a Rode NT-USB mic on a shock mount/arm that should cope with sitting positions and a Fifine radio/USB clip mic - so he can move a little and at least should be heard. I have bought the mics without doing any tests so I have no idea how it will come out. My background is broadcast TV where you usually had the luxury of a soundguy with a boom and he would monitor the sound to make sure you kept all the warmth. That will normally cost you £1000 a day though. And of course you hire the expertise so that you don't have to know it yourself. All I know is I don't know much. I massively appreciate your testing though. I've had to watch a ton of videos and yours are very good. I've come to realise that everything a Live Streamer needs was normally made for something else and you have essentially re-purposed it - and that's all done through testing. You have saved me a ton of work. Great job. Thanks.
I actually prefer the look of the Samson over the HyperX. Has a more timeless look. And the thickness in the alto range of the Samsob is ++! I have a mid to deeper voice so that was an interesting and helpful detail. Great video! Thank you!
My G-Track Pro was such a beast. I have upgraded to an XLR at this point (a Rode Procaster) but my G-Track Pro was such a workhorse. It's still my travel mic.

I believe they made the razor one plastic because of the design of the stand. since the mic can rotate on it the mic cant be too heavy since it would affect stability of the stand if mic is not straight. it would topple over way easier when grazed accidentally.
I have had the Yeti Nano for less than a year. Started experiencing static during my recordings on Audacity out of nowhere. Didnt change the settings or anything, MIC has just went to shit. Its decent for the price (99$ on average) but I'm switching to the Samson. Its extremely attractive and I love the deeper, richer tone it gives your voice.
Samson have been making pro audio gear since 1980 in Australia. Defiantly not a startup company. I think the one thing missing is that you can of course tweak the sound using something like voicemeeter. I have the Seiren X which is arguably one of the worst of these 4, but change a few simple settings, set up a noise gate as it's very sensitive, and you're good to go. Sounds great. I don't expect to use one straight out the box and it be optimized for my set up, although if it is, awesome!
That's cool! I wonder how good that actually works, wow! I can't wait to try it out on the Samson I just snatched for $65 on eBay! I have VOICE METER and I love it although it can be confusing sometimes because I also now have NVIDIA BROADCAST to worry about and then SteelSeries Gaming because I love the EQ that gives me the ability to set my overall PC's sound to "Cinematic" for when I watch movies or something and it also has a SPATIAL AUDIO feature that works globally, so that's sick too. It's a bit of a headache now though like I'm saying so having a Mic that just sounds "THE BEST" out of the Box is quite a good thing and actually feels necessary for me personally. Glad to hear that your HyperX works even better than it did out of the box through some modifications though!

I bought the Samsung and love it. It has great sound. I have it mounted on a cheap boom arm with a samsung spo1 shockmount. It all works just fine. I would recommend it every time, but the best mic is the one that you feel works with your voice and your environment and your budget. There is a lot of opinion on mics out there. See if you can make money first at whatever you are trying to do, then worry about upgrading to pricier professional status mics.

Harris: Haha *Weenie Microphone* Go BRRRRR
As a Samson G-Track Pro user, this makes me happy.
However, I found that this mic has issues on plenty of systems.
For one, you need to set the microphone sample rate to "2 channel 24 bit, 44100hz (Studio Quality)" or the 48000hz variant or else the mic with it's use of default drivers on windows tends to pitch the output down if the software used to talk over (Discord for example) switches from one device to the other
Reverting it makes the pitch shift happen.

YES EXACTLY
ImThatNinja well I game and play with my friends a lot but don’t stream that often, and I don’t make any videos, so which mode do u prefer?
@@envic9747 Still cardiod. The first two settings is directional audio, like hearing it in your left or right ear.
Cardiod takes the sound from the front and makes a dead zone on the back of it. Which could help dampen the noise of keyboard typing.
Last one takes sound from the front and back, so it's really only useful if you're doing like an across a table podcast or interview and you use just the one mic

@@DOMINOSMOFO the HyperX Quadcast is meant for gamers and streamers. Therefore, cardioid is the best option on the Quadcast.
But the hyper sounds tinny...though. I got base heavy earbuds and it still sounds rough.

I think it's unfair to include the Razer Seiren here, as it's in a lower price range and meant to be a tier lower than the other three.

some time ago, youtube actually auto-opted in all videos of all content creators to midroll ads, and forcing content creators to manually opt-out per-video for their entire backlog.

Great job. Thanks.

My ear could not discern the difference between the HyperX and Blue Yeti Nano (coming out of my tinny MacBook Air speakers, anyway), but wow, the Samson really picked up the warm lows in a way that I thought was really... flattering? Do you think it's because you have a background in audio, or could a layman pick up that mic and tweak it properly-despite the granularity of the settings? I think I would like to pick up that Samson for my husband, who is getting into Twitch streaming and is musically-inclined (and has a very lovely, low voice).
Great vid-so comprehensive, and very enjoyable!
I think I'm going with the HyperX Quadcast :)
Good idea? Thinking of getting it for Christmas. It also fits my red and black color scheme.
You Could Go With It. Im Gonna Get The Blue Yeti (Not The Nano).
the samson g track is handsdown my favorite
I think it looks rlly good
I'm considering getting the Samson G-Track Pro for my online classes, and potentially livestreaming in the future. This video really helped me out. Thank you for what you do.
You should test the ''RØDE NT-USB'' as well :D
Have an HyperX. It's perfect for me, I love the thing.
whats it like with backround noise? ive heard it picks it up quite a bit
@@djmills9549 it does pick up a bit of it. But in OBS you can easily fix that. But it's nothing major really.
@@emptydynamix2840 oh wicked bro, hows the sound quality? as ive heard its trash, and in this review harris had it set to stereo sooo yeah
@@djmills9549 it's really good actually. I get the complaint harris gave. But honestly the mic is way better than he gave credit for. If you decide to buy on you definitely won't regret. Have a friend who bought it and it sounds really good through discord.
@@emptydynamix2840 yeah it seems really nice on other reviews, and i already have a boom arm so i can hook that up to it, im gonna wait for it to go onb sale tho cuz i wanna save that $$$. also i subbed to u
