This was absolutely wonderful. I was a huge GW1 player - where it was arguably much more simple.. Now I find myself lost as could be on GW2 - these "basic" videos are a blessing. You deserve a lot more attention bud! Keep up the good work :)
Yeah, a friend of mine approached me about how every video she found was aimed at people that basically understood the basics. I think my channel is going to be about filling in the gaps in the general community. Thanks for the kind words, tell a friend 😀
Thanks man, this helped me a great deal understanding. Rolled one to 80 in 2 days to try it out. Really liked it, now your video helped me understand how to use it.
Great and informative video! I've been playing a lot of warrior and thief, and now I am leveling a revenant (level 30 currently) and this video helped me out a lot to understand this profession more. Thank you.
hello! a couple tips for very new rev players. runes of rage are a cheap alternative to strength runes or scholar. it is useful to have a spare hammer in your inventory if you want to range any enemies in pve. If you are getting used to the game/ want some extra defense you can swap a couple trinkets the valkyrie set instead of beserkers/assassins. this gives vitality in exchange for precision without compromising on power. If you haven't unlocked herald yet you can use assassins stance to get around the map quickly. (these tips are more for roaming about then high end pve by the way) Overall thanks, good video
Hey man thanks for the video! I just used my lvl 80 boost on a rev, looks like a really versatile class! do you have any advice on being supportive w/ rev? I am trying to decide if I want to main the rev or guardian, and yes I play that way that everyone hates, I beef up my toughness, vit, and healing power haha, I just like feeling supportive and not just beserker dps all the time, what do you think about rev vs guardian as far as support pve?
Eventually you'll realise that you can be just as supportive in damage gear, haha! The truth of the game is quite a shame really. Tanking isn't a thing (except in raids) because there is no way to guarantee the enemies hit you rather than your damage dealers standing next to you. Also, healing power has truly awful scaling. It's why they added Druid to the game. To finally justify their choice of adding healing power as a stat! I have some mixed advice for you: if you want to support on guardian or Rev, throw yourself in at the deep end and do it in damage gear. Or check out my Druid like a boss video ;-) if you want to be more survivable guardian, my stone cannon guardian is a real nice half way house between meta damage and what you like. Probably not what you want to hear but eventually you'll zerk up like we all do, may as well cut to the chase!
Hey Mike I was wondering about the state of Revenant atm. How is it doing in mid and high endgame? Do they get kicked because of other classes outperforming them? Also how useful is their damage and boon sharing right now? I'd appreciate it if you're able to answer some of these questions :D
Sorry for slow response, super sick at the moment. Rev is in an ok spot for DPS. I heard the condition Rev is well up there now, however no utility the revenant brings can't be done better by another profession so far. The boon duration thing I mention heavily in this video isn't valid anymore unfortunately. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Maybe next patch revenant will be looked at, it should!
Yes I really do like the action camera, sometimes I find it enormously speeds up my actions per minute. Also, when I was playing without it, I noticed I was spending most of my time with my right click held down anyway. Alot of people give me shit for using it however, as it can be limiting. What most people don't realise perhaps is that I have the action camera on/off bound to my middle mouse button, so I can (if needed) turn it off fast and effectively. Any perceived limitation caused by the camera is negated by this. And my middle finger on my right hand is thanking me for not constantly holding it down the whole time :P
Thanks for the response. I will give the camera a shot, it looks really fun TBH. Thanks for the guide as well, you just taught me how to properly use my herald :)
Hi!! im new in the game and there are some abilities that are activated summoning legends, i don´t understant how you summon one, or which effect triggers that! Thanks!!
So, it's pretty simple to summon a legend. the legends are the F1 and F2 buttons above your first five skills. You can have two to switch between in any build and can pick which legends you are able to summon by clicking the little arrow above them (while out of combat). Which legend you have activated defines what your utility skills will be (skills 6,7,8,9 & 0). Simply press F2 if you are currently on F1 and vice versa. Hope that helps!
I am eventually going to have all nine professions. I'm currently moving house so the next one is delayed I'm afraid. Also I had parts of the next video done but the latest patch has gone messed it up, further delaying things. I hope to be back at it soon though!
You get 150 cc from axe 5. You get 450-750 cc from staff 5. That's a huge difference (3-5 times as much) and at the end of the day, the revenant is there for utility, not damage. So I would not recommend ditching staff.
Hey! Don't know if you're still playing gw2, but I'm also a newly dedicated Guardian main. I've been thinking about trying out Revenant. How did you find it compared to the Guardian? Was it fun?
Basically fractals and raids are the endgame content that's difficult. There's still living story and cool new maps if you enjoy a lighter, less intense guild wars.
Thanks ^^ due to blizzards increasingly alienating their oldschool audience i slowly searching for a new MMO and gw2 is the one i tested way back and which has left the best impressions ^^ But time will tell when i start playing it as my main mmorpg. First leveling and casual :P but i have notcied how much better the community is thus far. It seems WoW devolves into the LoL of MMO´s ^^"
That makes sense to me. I wouldn't still be playing a game after 15 years (how long has wow been out?) if I wasn't super hardcore. The community in this game is epic, you only have to look at the comments in my videos to be honest. Most other games I would have had a tonne of abuse by now 😋
Best way is to join a hero point train in verdant brink. In general, you need verdant brink, auric basin and a few hero points in tangled depths to unlock an elite specialization. On a hero point train, you could get this done in 2 hours easy. Never do hero points outside of HOT maps. They give you only 1 point whereas HOT maps give you 10. Happy training!
After watching I still feel meh about the Revenant, seems like a mixture of a whole bunch of concepts from other classes all thrown into one, which is neat I guess? I think for me what it comes down to is, can it surpass the healing of a druid or the protection of a guardian.
Guardian is kind of the same way. Most things the professions can do can be done better with others but as an all round I find rev fun and useful in high fractals. Not in raids though.
I'm not sure I understand the mindset behind the video to be honest. Why talk about Herald, which is basically endgame in terms of class building, in a basics video where you also talk about which weapon types it can use, and what it should probably use? I think the people that look up these kinds of videos are the people with characters at level 7 or something like that that are confused about what the deal with Dwarf, Demon Centaur and all that is, so I'm kinda not sure I understand the intention. Elite Specs just seems beyond completely irrelevant for a basics video. I still appreciate that it was added though, but I think it was a mistake to begin the talk of legends by starting with the last one you will ever unlock, if you even play the class long enough to unlock it. Maybe there's something I'm just not getting tho, in which case, I'm sorry >
Had this kind of comment a lot on my videos. I only explained it in my first vid. They're supposed to be basic, but not beginner. Basically people have button bashed their way to level 80. Sorry for the confusion.
Oh wow. Didn't know that was a thing people did. That's kinda interesting actually xD You'd think that by default, they'd learn a bit about the class from just the amount of time it takes to force yourself up there. The highest I ever got was 50 Engineer, then I made a ton of alts, and kinda tired myself out. Peeking back in now though.
@@milat9287 Nah, thats kinda what I did, I have 4 level 80 characters and just about button mashed my way to oblivion to get em up to level 80. The issue is that from a beginner pov all of this can seem a little daunting to take on since there are just SO many options so it often feels better to just button mash which, since 99% of what I was doing was PVE, would end up actually working out for me since PVE content can be pretty forgiving.
Depends how patient you are. At the moment there are a few decent rev builds floating around but in general it's a profession less used. If you really get into guild wars 2 though, getting a character to level 80 can be am absolute breeze. Before too long you'll have multiple. don't sweat it ;-)
Not necessarily. Revenant is pretty unique in GW2 and can be a TON of fun. You have a lot of things you can do and you'll be able to fill any role at least satisfactorily. There might be classes who do particular things better than you, but that doesn't mean Revenant is bad at it. You're entirely able at filling that role too. And even if others are better at that particular thing (Phalanx Warrior at stacking might, for example), don't forget that because of what your class is, you can still do stuff these other specialists wouldn't also be able to do. But, more importantly, back to the fun stuff. Revenant has a few really cool skills. Equipped a sword? The 3 ability is hilarious. Combining the assassin legend with the hammer 5 makes for a really fast, really hard hitting AoE stun. Don't let other people discourage you. Revenant is an entirely capable class with a high skill ceiling. L2P him (or her) and people will love you.
Not really do be honest; like always the performance depends a lot on the player not only the class Rev is a more rounded class & thats actually something i do enjoy Some people have a problem with the locked utility skills, but i like that too for a change As herald its a lot of fun, but the new renegade elite spec is not something i can vouch for I stay true to herald :-)
...and then they killed the F2 in August 2018. Boooooo! I have two Revs- one Herald (sword/axe, hammer, Glint/Jalis), the other Renegade (staff, shortbow, Kalla/Jalis)- and I often say that the occupation overall is "under-powered but respectable".
Yeah its a shame since you'd think a profession that is hampered by energy costs and lack of freedom of utility skills should be generally stronger to compensate for lack of choice. *sigh
It's coincidental you say that because Rev is the only one where I regularly use the 7 through 9! On most of my characters, I use passive Signets, so that I don't have to _think_ about those slots when I'm engaged. But it's the perma-boons that make me use them a lot more on Rev, especially on my Herald. I'm primarily PvE, Story and Fractals, so I also don't have to panic about combos with Signets _as much_ in those modes.
Well I could chat all day about my opinions on utility skills themselves. I'll shorten it to simply the fact it frustrates me how any of them have any effect on damage. Since it kind of restricts you artificially to those skills instead of, you know, actual UTILITY skills lol
Well simplistically put yes, but then you start to realise things like using shield 5 or sword 3 is actually better than dodging big attacks (due to large animation). Or skill 2 is better dps if the target is alone. Also, not using the utility for revenant is a crying shame since the profession isn't the best dps but can bring some life saving or group altering buffs. But if you want to stand and smack 1, all power to you ;-)
Mike The Fish lol oh yeah I know, I main revnant. And I rarely do the spammy rotation because it bores me. However in some cases it actually is a little too good lol. They may need to spread out that dps a lil more.
This was absolutely wonderful. I was a huge GW1 player - where it was arguably much more simple.. Now I find myself lost as could be on GW2 - these "basic" videos are a blessing.
You deserve a lot more attention bud! Keep up the good work :)

Thank you! Glad I can help. It's why I do this!
Gave the rev a try because of this video - loving it so far! Looking forward to more content from you.
Thank-you! I'm really struggling to find the time at the moment with my house move but hopefully before too long!
That was a very informative video. Thank you so much for taking your time to make & post.
You're very welcome! Necromancer next :)
Excellent informative video thank you......just getting back into gw2 after 2 years and started one of these and had no clue how to play them..

Great video! You did a great job explaining everything out. I'm going to watch the other profession videos now.
Thanks for watching, tell a friend :)
very helpful, looking forward to playing the rev!!
Interestingly, the Energy Bar, > arrows and Upkeep Cost concepts are in Guild Wars 1, where some skills work exactly as they do for the Revenant.
Yup, they wanted Revenant to feel like a throwback from GW1.
impossible odds' drain got buffed pretty nicely
Volume is a little low
Am aware i had this issue. Fixed in future videos, sorry!
Great video. Thank you. I am anxious for the other classes.
Thanks! I had bit more time the last couple of weeks so those came out a bit faster than the next 7, but I promise they're coming!
thanks a lot , i just started this was exaclty what i was looking for
Very helpful, thanks a lot Mike :)
Easy to listen to.

The volume is very low. Good content though!
Blaque Pauldron maybe turn up your own?!? O.o
then just one other sound from anything else will blow up the milky way cuz this video sound is EXTEREMELY low
So is there a more or less viable condition build for the Revenant?
In PvP only I'm afraid. The numbers just aren't there to support it in PvE because torment is only useful on moving targets.
Mike The Fish
Ok thanks just wanted to know ^^ So i wont waste my time in tinkering a build together xD
Sounds like a good start build for a revenant newbie. After lots of Guardian hours I will give it a chance.
Hey! Don't know if you're still playing gw2, but I'm also a newly dedicated Guardian main. I've been thinking about trying out Revenant. How did you find it compared to the Guardian? Was it fun?
Says guild wars haven't done a energy bar until rev *cough* guild wars 1*cough*
Guild Wars 1 used to have the energy bar.
was that obi wan konobi at the start ?????
Can somebody tell me what exactly is the PvE endgame in gw2 ? xD left years ago due to not enjoying any class and now lvling a Revenant and its fun :)
Basically fractals and raids are the endgame content that's difficult. There's still living story and cool new maps if you enjoy a lighter, less intense guild wars.

You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
oh and they did a nerf on the seaweed salad i think
Detailed in the what's changed video I have done 😀
number of targets != number of hits @ 29:16 :)
Yeah I didn't mention that it only hits three times on an isolated target, not sure if a note there might over complicate it though. What you think?
honestly i dont know if anyone new to gw2 would pay as much attention as i do. but i would put it there for correctness sake.
cool. getting my herold points now lol.
Increase your audio. My cellphone is at Max on speaker and I cannot hear a word you say unless I have it to my ear.
You sound like Lor'themar Theron/Trahearne.
your build made me cry :C #sadface
Is it the shield? Can't work out why else you would be upset. Need more information!
Bought the game and used my level 80 boost for the Rev, question is, did I make a fuckin mistake or what?

Eh, I pick-and-choose my fights, and I have far bigger fish to fry with Anet than the Signets on Herald...
ur volume is very low
Yeah, something I solved in later videos. I was young and foolish when I made this video!
Ironically, I found the Revenant to be boring. I say "ironically" because......this video,
To be honest, I do too. Not being able to make your utility skills unique kinda bugs me. Very little build variety.
PVE guide? LOL. here let me save them time. 1,1,1,1,1,1,1.
Haha yeah, a lot of the time perhaps! Still, I wanted to make a guide for people who were thinking about going a touch beyond that 😝
But that's pro level PVE rotation with sword! :P
Well simplistically put yes, but then you start to realise things like using shield 5 or sword 3 is actually better than dodging big attacks (due to large animation). Step 1: don't play revenant. ;D
