Ty for this! Helped alot. Love when you going trough engineer basics too. Thats just awesome! I like playing engineer and elementalist, but it's quite hard knowing what to focus on. So it feels very good having someone helping me with the basic stats. You explain things very good and doing so in a very pedagogik way. I will keep watching what you put out on youtube. Please keep the good work up! :)
As a player new to Guild Wars, this series has been really interesting to me, and helped explain the classes much better than the official guides. Good video quality, and seems like someone who knows what theyre talking about. +1 subscribed
Thanks for watching, glad I can help. Tell a friend! And yeah, I do know what I'm talking about, not that I'm always the best at actually applying what I know though!
Hey man, just wanted to drop by and thank you for the guide. I AM a seasoned player n GW2, but I've almost exclusively played Guardian/Dragonhunter all this time, since that profession just really fits me well. Trying something new this time and this guide has been very informing for me, as I boosted to 80. I found the profession a lot to take in at one moment, so having this nice little guide is very helpful!
You have a lovely voice. I’m hoping my ele might stay alive long enough to get hero points from level 80 veterans now cos I’ve played so much necro without knowing details like how strong/full of life pool they are and how squishy the ele is. I’m so used to being able to kill nearly everything and having the shroud, seeing the ele get smashed so easily was a surprise.
Damn dude, I wasn't going to watch the whole video till I saw the comments, ppl saying stuff about your singing skills. Now I think it was completely worth, I learned alot about the elementalist, which I love, and I got goosebumps when you sang. i have to say thanks. You should have a secondary channel where you sing, I would definitely subscribe.
Ah thanks dude! Don't think I'm all that special at singing compared to what's out there but I'm pretty sure I'm the only guy making gw2 videos who sings so I think I'll stay in my own cornered market! 😉
Haha, let me save you some time. The only other video I properly sing in is "permanent evade mirage". Maybe more going forward, I dunno. I still feel quite nervous including it.
Would the traits/utility skills change if i were to main with scepter/focus? Also, what would you suggest as a 3rd specialization if I haven't fully unlocked tempest yet?
I'm not familiar with Sceptre focus ele I'm afraid. As for specialization, run tempest anyway. The overloads are too strong and those are unlocked instantly.
Awww thankyou for saying that! UA-cam comments so kind to me, gives me confidence. Perhaps more proper (or my version of proper!) singing in future vids, who knows!
I'm going to hit a very real barrier when I get to the mesmer and engineer. These guides are supposed to be beginner's training in a profession, but with those two professions, there really is no beginner's lesson possible. The only way either profession is useful in a group setting is with quite staggering levels of complexity. I'm honestly not sure how to approach it. I can tell you chronomancer will be the last one I attempt. Sorry about that!
imagine... its Christmas eve.... snow is falling. but then lightning strikes.... and the earth rises causing massive earthquakes and fire starts falling from the sky.... sounds lovely. oh did you do the background vocals too? someone's hitting some juicy high notes!
No, background vocals are a karaoke track I found. Wish I could take credit! Thanks for the kind words though. Yeah I remember this, back when I could actually play ele, it's much harder now, weaver messes with my head lol
Man, I love you. Thank you for this absolutely wonderful video. Appreciate it. Oh also, would you recommend to always try to be in air when using the glyph of elemental, or is fire better?
Thanks for the kind words! Tell a friend ;-) As for the glyph, you never want to use it in fire attunement. If you really want to be fancy, you can switch to air attunement DURING the cast of meteor shower, use glyph of storms and then overload air will be charged. Then once overload air is done, you might get in 1 auto before fire attunement is recharged and back to fire! At least this is the rotation I was using in this video anyway! Hope that helps!
Mike The Fish Ah yes, I kinda misstyped. I meant to say "Is it recommended to always try to be in air when using glyph of elemental, or is fire better in some situations?". I don't know how vulnerability stacking works, if it has a cap or not, but just thought that maybe fire glyph of ele deals more base damage than the lightning one, and would therefore be better in some situations when the boss already has full vulnerability stack (If it has a cap) Especially since you got traits that makes you deal more damage when in the fire attunement. But maybe lightning is just better at all times. Thanks once again, and thanks especially for including the rotations at the end.
I'm pretty sure Glyph of storms simply does more damage. Even at the vuln cap (25 stacks). Since you change back into fire after overload air (and glyph of storms persists for a while), a good portion of the damage also has the fire attunement damage bonuses.
It's a collection of armour pieces as opposed to an outfit, although I take that as a compliment! The headpiece is Glint's Gaze Mask, the shoulders are Council Ministry Mantle, the chestpiece is Soul of Koda, the gloves are Hellfire Vambraces, the pants are Flamekissed pants, the boots are Aetherblade boots and the staff is the Tempest staff. Then I've tried to incorporate fire and ice into their dyes. I quite like it :-)
Hi Mike, what a awesome video, really well done, great sense of humor as well, that`s what I like :) by the way, you`re a good singer, go on making more music vids please for me it helps a lot cause I´ve just started my ele - other vids are showing water or arkan instead of tempest, so, are these good alternatives or are elite specs allways the best choice? What do you think about the Roccat Nyth MMO Mouse?
With regards to the other types of ele builds out there; I try to focus on one good but easy build to play as an profession. These are basic guides and there are too many valid builds out there to cover them all. This build gets the job done, is fun and pretty simple to play. I find elite specs pretty strong in this game, I would stick to them. As for the mouse; had a quick Google and it looks alright. Doesn't really matter what brand you get, the idea is does it have enough buttons for the F keys on the side. Then just a case of getting used to it 😉

Thank you for this video. I'm playing since OBT in summer 2012 but never found that training area where you fought the idle golem, where can I find it?
In the south of lion's arch, there's a portal to a place called the lion's arch aerodrome. When in there, create a squad of just you and walk into the special forces training area (next to the bank). Once inside, you will see a console that you can use to give yourself buffs and spawn types of golems to practice on. The entire aerodrome is set up for raiders and they needed an area to practice so they added it like 6 months ago. enjoy!
Damn, learned a lot from this video, but damn that singing. I know this was from december but could you tell me how relevant all this stuff really is still (I am a new GW2 player and doing my research right now)
The build I've demonstrated here still works, it's just a little worse than the optimal build these days. Once I've finished all the professions I plan to release a "what's changed" quick view but having a hard time finding time to record at the moment when I'm not sneezing and sniffling like a beast! Hopefully not too far away.
Oh man, tbh I didn't expect a reply to a 6 month old video let alone the next day. Thank you for response man. I've already learned that this game is more complex with it's professions than most other games, kind of hard trying to find what would suit you when you're new ^_^. Hope you feel better as well! Looking forward to more videos from you
The console in the special forces training area lets you put all the boons and profession specific bonuses on you (also conditions on the kitty golem too). The DPS benchmarks done by all the pros use full buffing primarily to work out rotations.
I mean there's tonnes of skills that give lots of boons in the game, could literally be anything you're talking about. Depends where you have seen these people and what boons they had. Don't have enough information to answer, sorry :-/
Very nice guide, extremely helpful! But one question.. How on earth do you get that many buffs? I only have 2 buffs from food.. Can you help me out? Peace out
Actually I cheated! The area I was in was the training area and you can use a console there to add whatever buffs you like. It's by the bank in the lion's arch aerodrome, make a squad of one and go to check it out! Its useful practice zone.
You know it's funny... This guide is old as shit so there is lots of outdated/plain wrong info here however, you've corrected something that isn't wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Health
Would the traits/utility skills change if i were to main with scepter/focus? Also, what would you suggest as a 3rd specialization if I haven't fully unlocked tempest yet?
Did something change since these vids came out? I see u only have 12k health and I understand u said ele has a super small healthpool and is squishy af so I'm just wondering y my elementalist has 21k just after boosting it, don't have super special gear idont think lol I'm still squishy af but I have so much more health, did they update that or something? Lol
Well if you have 21k, you have to have something boosting it. Traits or gear, it all adds up. The ele health pool is still the joint lowest at 11-12k. Lots has changed since this video but not that!
Ele is still top DPS on large hotbox enemies. This standard staff build is still well up in the high 30's for dps so it's still legit. There is also a condi build and a sceptre build which are marginally more DPS. Personally, I'm sticking with this though. Still works.
ok looks nice when the enemy is not attacking but how the hell are you expect to survive more than 5 seconds against fighting enemy with this 0 heal build ?
Ele really thrives in a team as one of the highest damage dealers. Of course that means you have others around you, doing things like healing and reviving. If you're in the open world solo then you can pretty much run anything you like and dodge appropriately. These guides are supposed to be the first step a casual (yet not entirely beginner) player takes towards what is expected of you in endgame content.
well..you didnt go as deep as other guides do, like comparisions between vipers sinister and zerker stats...and thats ok as its a basic guide (as the title clearly states) what i do think your should do or mention(even if you wont do it as u already did the video :P) is go a lil deeper about the pros and cons of other weapons...as a elementalist/tempest the weapon its the most important aspect you should care about as you cant just swap weapons...and you should cover it more that just saying you have a staff with zerker stats....
Its a shame, because i'd like to play Elementalist, but im usually a slow learner when it comes to games. Necro, Warrior and Ranger don't appeal to me as much.
Man, to a new player (that is currently downloading the game and never played) this game is intimidating. A lot is confusing, like when to switch to this or that and why. When to overload and not, when to ice bow, sword, blah blah......
Yeah it can be a lot. Even though these are basic guides, I would say the ideal time to watch this is after you've messed around in the game for a little bit. Go auto attack some mobs in the open world, then get curious, read some skills, check out the traits. Suddenly you're thinking, "ok how do I do this properly". Then come back and watch my vids ;-)
Well, applying advanced knowledge to a universe you haven’t yet had your hands on sounds pretty blah blah to me. GW may not be the game for you if you’re jumping to conclusions already :P
This is NOT elementalist guide but Tempest - paid version. This "overload" feature is not possible for F2P players that is for 90 % of elementalists who play.
Such a heavenly voice *.*
these "get to know your profession" videos are starting to become my favourite videos on youtube, very well done. cant wait for the next one!
And there you have it ladies and gentlemen, another build brought to you by Mike the Sinatra.
You're very welcome! Glad I could help even a seasoned player haha! Tell a friend 😀
one thing I got from this video, ur a hella good singer
Bro.....singing on point, the mirage vid surprised me, this one even more, hidden talent that needs shared for sure
I sometimes think subconsciously, the only reason I made a guild wars channel was to have an excuse to sing on youtube occasionally 😁
Mike The Fish well keep on singing, you do well with it
You have a lovely voice.
Dude your singing is awesome (if that was truly you singing) your voice was perfect for that tempo.
Thankyou! I felt like my voice wavered a couple times, I was pretty nervous doing it. I really appreciate that positive affirmation!
Damn dude, I wasn't going to watch the whole video till I saw the comments, ppl saying stuff about your singing skills. Now I think it was completely worth, I learned alot about the elementalist, which I love, and I got goosebumps when you sang. i have to say thanks. You did it ! Now I am going to be scouring all your videos hoping like mad to hear that voice again! Thanks Mike - sincerely. WyldFyre
Haha, let me save you some time. The only other video I properly sing in is "permanent evade mirage". Maybe more going forward, I dunno. I still feel quite nervous including it.

ok awesome! thanks!
lol that Christmas song in mid April tho!
Very informative vid man thanks!
Check the posting date 😉
Nice nice very nice, learned lot of important stuff /2 weeks old GW gamer :) THanks!
You're welcome! Tell a friend :-)
good video, nice vocals, laughed pretty hard at ya too... all good, ty lots.
Lol, Actually pretty good singing, well done ;)
Thankyou! Hopefully the guide was useful too ;-)
I've watched this video a few times just for the singing.
Awww thankyou for saying that! UA-cam comments so kind to me, gives me confidence. Perhaps more proper (or my version of proper!) singing in future vids, who knows!
Thanks, now I kinda feel like I can take control of my Elementalist.
your voice
Very helpful video! Great work!
I actually really liked your singing :)
Thanks, gave me a clear insight.
Great singing voice.. and video!
Much love from 2019 :D
Great video!! I would love to see a chronomancer guide, learning to play it and would love some tips.
I'm going to hit a very real barrier when I get to the mesmer and engineer. I'm probably gonna watch this video more than once lol
Man, I love you. Thank you for this absolutely wonderful video. Appreciate it.

Yeah, I guess so. Besides, you can never go wrong with additional vulnerability stacking just incase it goes away.
Your singing was good so need for the self deprecating stuff on the screen there... xP
What is your cosmetic outfit?
It's a collection of armour pieces as opposed to an outfit, although I take that as a compliment! not bad not bad but you forgot to mention going downed state = dps increase
you've been watching videos on reddit haven't you 😉
haha never mind, that video was yours!
Any chance you have your songs on Spotify?
Wait, I can do that? Won't I hit even more copyright there than I have done here?
Hi Mike, what a awesome video, really well done, great sense of humor as well, that`s what I like :) by the way, you`re a good singer, go on making more music vids please

thx for your answer, and yes, your right, this build is absolutely fine to play an effective ele the easy way :)
Thank you for this video. I'm playing since OBT in summer 2012 but never found that training area where you fought the idle golem, where can I find it?

you can really sing :O
M8 Thief, and Elementalists doesn't nearly have as little hp as gurdian. i know this because I play gurdian and Elementalists plus I have tried thief
You know it's funny... This guide is old as shit so there is lots of outdated/plain wrong info here however, you've corrected something that isn't wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Health

Ok nvm just saw what your latest vid is about
Rotation changed a bit, but still valid. Check what has changed video in same playlist for details.

alan roig surely most pay? You can get the HoT expansion cheap as chips now. Is the PoF that i understand people still being too poor for xD
Great video with a lot of information, but not very entertaining.
great video. you really explain the fundamentals of learning about a class
