This is the first of nine! Starting here because I used to play a lot of Elemental when the game came out, and it felt natural to talk about. I'll probably show you a medium build next! As always, these are NOT the only ways to play the classes, but definitely my preferred out here. Be sure to check the description for the Playlist link, which has gear information and an introduction to the series.
Ok yall I figured it out by fiddling on a build editor. He's got Full Zerker armour, but Maurauder's weapons and trinkets. Privateer Runes, Sigils of Strength and Frenzy. Full power infusions (this screwed up my maths for a while!) He never mouses over his food/utility buffs, but his power and ferocity is boosted more than the build editor is saying and dropped in power (but still somewhat boosted) ~30 seconds after leaving combat so it's a Dragon's Breath Bun and either Superior or Ogre Sharpening Stone!
Recently started playing GW2 and I have learnt so much from your channel, thank you! Now I just can't wait for Necromancer and Ranger, the two classes I've maxed so far.
Elementalist is my most played class, but I admit I have never given Scepter and Warhorn too much of a tought, because of my love for Dagger and Sword. Today I gave your build a chance and... Oh my, it just cuts like butter through stuff that previously was downing me pretty much constantly... Less aesthetics, more efficiency, I guess! Best thing is that now I want to go through all content and learn to perfect the playstyle. Best kind of video, since it adds to the enjoyment and understanding of playing the game... Looking forward to the next ones in the series!
Loved the video, sadly finding being a couple of years out of date things like persistent flames, signet of agony of been reworked. Hope you can make some updated vids as I'd love to watch.
@@wafflingmean4477 not sure if I’m too late but berserker armour with privateer runes, trinkets and weapons are both marauder, sceptre has strength sigil and warhorn has frenzy sigil.

I love how your channel is kind of a library on everything you need to know about or you can do in the game, really structurized. Also I love to come in from time to time and be immediately motivated to play Gw2 again. Thanks for this build, I will be trying it out as soon as possible.
Wooden Potatoes is unarguably the best gw2 channel. He does all kinds of videos so there's tons of veriety, but most of all he covers all the lore and the little details and conspiracies, theory crafting. That makes it the most interesting gw2 channel out there. I started playing gw2 knowing nothing of gw1. But because the game was so interesting to me i started watching his videos. By doing that i learned everything about gw1 lore, which is by itself very interesting, and that made me love and appreciate gw2 even more. Most other gw2 channels are either braggatory pvp kills, endless builds for everything, guides, guides and more guides, new player this, new player that or it's "is gw2 still worth playing in 20XX?" all of these are most of the time really boring to me. Wooden Potatoes gives me all the content that i need and it's actually presented in an engaging way. I've learned more about synergy among runes, sigils, weapon and armor attributes, traits, weapons skills and utility skills from one of his videos than any other channel or website. Thank you WP❤️🥔
Thanks so much for these videos. I have just been face rolling as a weaver and doing terribly. Watched this playlist, put together what i could just on what was in my bank. Build isn't even complete (heck, i haven't even fully unlocked all the tempest specialization!) Even with only half of this build setup, I am much more capable at soloing PoF veterans and elites. Looking forward to completing this build and to the rest of the builds to come!
Yeahh, Tempest! As much as I love Weaver's thematic ideas (dual wielding ice and fire is sweet), Tempest just has amazingly sweet AoE and is easier to play.
LOVE the footage of it in practice, just hearing about what something can do isn't enough for me to get a picture, and this is also very exciting for me because I was so surprised with how much I loved tempest, as ele has always been a hard class for me to learn.
Its not the point for ppl to just copy the build they have to understand what does what and when they make a build themselves if they read a tiny bit they will understand the point of these videos is to teach ppl how to do it not just give them a finished build to go and spam around skills yeah they will be able to do 70 percent of stuff in game just spaming but when u know how to do it it just gives u that extra quality of life that we are searching for with these builds
Welp... from the build notes today (July 7th, 2020): "Persisting Flames: This trait no longer grants fury when using a blast finisher with a fire combo field. Instead, this trait will now grant the Elementalist an additional 1% damage for 15 seconds for each target struck with a fire field. This effect stacks up to 10 times." Also no mention of the fact that they removed the lava fount.. That was a hard nerf to take...
The_SaxMan not necessarily, but you can modify it a bit. With the downstate lava font removed, which is the main appeal for fire trait in open world, you might want to consider using the water trait (2-3-3) or arcane trait. Hope this helps :)
I wonder what build he will use for Guardian. I wouldn't be surprised if its DH, however, I feel DH doesn't chain well at all and is not versatile in terms of what kind of damage it does. It's also hard for DH to get a good amount of might for long durations.
Thanks for this video. It will help out a lot with understanding Elementalist, which has been the class I have the most hours on. I kind of just load up a build and play without really understanding or reading the synergies or skill descriptions. This helps a lot.
Thanks WP great vid! I had an elementalist I created for PoF and never played because I couldnt figure out a fun PvE build. I took your suggestions, changed my build, and this build is alot of FUN! Running around Crystal Desert having a blast!
Thought you might be exaggerating a bit on the Yar Parrot with Privateer Rune, but running in HOT areas, the parrot is nearly as good as a Ranger pet for pulling aggro. Very helpful, especially on adds. I run high crit on Zerk gear, so it's up all the time. I'm glad I gave them a go. Thanks.
Hey WP. Putting your philosophy of reading comments in old videos to the test :) I'm a returning player and trying to get a deeper understanding of my Ele builds. I notice a few differences with some traits now (Oct 2020) compared with when the video was made. example, Persisting flames no longer gives the lava font. Does the trait balance of today greatly affect this build, or is it largely still applicable :) Thanks for the content!
Have never WILL never play and a elementalist and I am here to tell you Wooden Potatoes this was a fun watch and listen for the wife and I. As we know you spent years playing this class :) not to mention get your explanation as to WHY you select and choose what you select and choose :). Look very forward to you tackling them all and getting to the classes we play and
Dear @WoodenPotatoes, I've really enjoyed playing this build. Thank you for sharing it. But, with lesser lava font removed, I have concerns about survivability and therefore viability. It would be amazing if you could update the video, or the accompanying text, to comment on this and recommend any changes to make the build viable moving forward.
Hi WP, with the rework of some of the traits + buffs (lower OLA cooldown meaning you don't really need Frenzy anymore to have it around more or less permanently (as you'll be casting stuff like Lightning Orb as you come back to air to get the OL + Ferocity damage boost to work for Orb) do you feel Fire is still worth it on Tempest? The only value it still has imo is the Lava Font downstate (which is big, but arguably Agony will have plenty of Rally potential) because Ele has so much easy to get condi cleanse and damage modifiers to get elsewhere. I'd say for a more defensive build, going more Aura Support and slotting Earth seems pretty good. If you're comfortable enough with playing Ele, then perhaps slotting Water is best to get those two 10% modifiers + vuln duration + heal + cleanse options. Even Arcane has merit for heal on swap, might on swap, another boon on swap, Arcane Shield on swap and either EA or BP. Personally, I've been running Air/Water/Weaver with Ascended Lifesteal food and Signet of Restoration to help keep up Scholar and Water Trait.
Wow i Love this build, but i play without zepter, i played with a dagger in the main hand, because the skills, i love the dagger skills, much AOE and the Dash spells from main hand dagger is very love. Im surprised you didnt mention the Golden Dumplings, since they pretty much cap you at 25 Might permanently and the Boon duration is nice as well. That way you can also take the Stab on Overload+Modifier. Either way, awesome vid and pretty much the best build for ele open world for sure
@wooden Potatoes with the influx of new players to the game can you make any suggestions in builds for players that DO NOT have their hero points unlocked and thus do not have the secondary professions from the different expansions such as tempest or weaver or so on?
Wow I enjoyed that now I know where my build went wrong, but now am trying to fix it I will be watching my Elementalist performance from now on, I had it all wrong.
For EVERYONE asking what to change after the Fire and Tempest changes 9 months ago: Basically, in Tempest change the GM to Transcendent Tempest for faster Overloads, and Swap Fire out for Water 2/3/3. While playing, instead of swapping to Fire out of Air, swap to Water, Cast Shatterstone, and then go back to Air. This triggers 2,900 in heals for yourself each time, and gives you a constant +25% damage which is much more than Fire gives you. gw2skills.net/editor/?PGAFsE2aUZERsru2SLrpmRGql0kfbD-zRRYBJmoSMoBfIRJCCUKEzCweziVLbA-e
I can see why Overload air is so powerful, since in squishy open world where you're gonna be outnumbered no matter what if you're soloing, it has insane cleave potential.
Water traitline over fire is so great for damage and sustain. Also, water ele does knock back break bar damage and is pretty tanky. Also I'm a big fan of lightning hammer for the quickness on the 2 on short cd for each air overload
about sigil of frenzy + overload, if your enemy is low on hp and you will miss the recharge on air try getting it for another element so it recgarges that overload
I've been playing dagger/dagger so long, I'll be happy to try scepter/warhorn. I've been wanting to get my Norn "shaman" ready for the Icebrood Saga and learn about the animal spirits.
Tempest is great to play on a laptop with a small screen. You can just move around with the movable AOEs and don't have to see every tell and action of the opponent. Just keep a little distance and keep moving and try to be behind them. A lot easier than trying to dodge a nuke skill you can't even see coming on your tiny screen.
Aria (Tempestuous Aria) is pronounced like Ah-ria, not like 'area'. Think of the line in Fear not this Night: 'Pleading sighing arias, gently grieving in captive misery". Aria means song, and so references music like some other tempest traits. Maybe that's why I love tempest so much, I love singing. This build is definitely gonna make my time playing ele in stories and openworld even better. :D
I ran the balthazar boss fight on my support quickbrand with a friend. I didn't do the kind of damage he did (he was a power reaper) but he went down a decent amount because he didn't know the telegraphs, and I realized early in that I could almost passively heal through all the adds and even some of the telegraphs so I would just rez him when he went down and do my dps pretty much whenever book 1 was off cooldown XD
This looks like so much fun to play, can't wait to get it all set up on my ele. Would it be possible for you to sreenshot or something all your ruins and trinkets etc so I can do the build. Thanks :D
probably maurader weapons + trinkets and zerker armor. If you look at his stats he had an extra 500 ish vitality which is too much for it to be from the weapons alone
If you're really planning on posting Necro last can I put in a request for an early appearance of the Warrior build? I have a Charr necro and a Norn warriror I'm setting up to play through Icebrood, it would be nice to be able to have a run through the prologue with one of your PvE builds. Love the Ele/Tempest build - I've always preferred Tempest play style to Weaver in PvE, looking forward to this series.
Been playing Warhorn Tempest Fresh Air ever since the release of HoT and never looked back. I just love the flow of the rotation! I prefere Dagger though compared to Scepter. However I am also taking the build into fractals.
Um...did I miss it or did he not say what stat set his gear was? I saw the runes and sigils, but what was the gear set? Also, it there a link to the full build somewhere?
Just wondering if you covered boon strip for this (or other open world) builds and I missed it? It's not usually a big deal in the open world but there are some cases like that Chak hero point where it is useful and I'm wondering if there's a trick I'm missing on ele.
Rip weaver. Spamming air overload is so much easier to beat story content, hps, etc. Playing through hot with tempest was way more fun than weaver in pof.
Has the traits changed at all? Some look different than the ones I’m seeing right now (2021, Sep 5th)? Air seems to be the same which is good cuz it’s the main trait line for tempest but water traits seem to be quite different now… can we get an update on the traits? Thanks!
@@TiroDvD Also glances can never crit, so it's actually more than half damage because it removes the 150% boost + whatever ferocity would also be there
I love playing tempest, but condi elementalist has always been my preferred play. I believe condi tempest was a thing back in the day, but condi Weaver is so much fun currently. Not the point of this series, but you can beat it for fun :P
Necro with spite and the lifesteal from the mastery signet is ACTUALLY broken. Not only does it do good condi because of the 3 skill (extremely heavy poison damage), the 1 skill is bonkers on power damage with spite, AND every single source of damage is a lifesteal due to the mastery signet. Granted as a necro main, my necro naturally has more deaths total than any other character I have, but in any given period of time my necro dies less than any other class Ive played by far
I would like to see your gear stats. There are many options, right. But for lazy ppl like me it would be convinient to just copy yours or change it slightly after using yours as a baseline =)
So is there like a core build equivalent to this? seems like yeah its all good having tempest fully unlocked, but here I am chain deing over and over as i struggle to get hero points from the first Heart of Thorns area @.@
That's a hole in the available videos across this entire game. "What build to use to acquire the hero points that allows you to exploit these preferred elite specs?" The gap between hitting 80 and hitting a fully realized spec can be a very painful time.
hi what weapon would you suggest using while still leveling instead of the warhorn as it only becomes available at level 80 after learning the tempest specialization?
Great video i loved it. The last thing u explained about the overload, did it mean u had the overload effect applying without having the cast time&animations ? I never played any light armor classes but this kind of videos makes me wanna try every build ^^ Can't wait to see ranger and revenant.
That's the visual effect of Meteorlogicus, which is the sceptre he's using. All legendary weapons leave a special footfall effect behind, Meteorlogicus causes storm clouds and lightning
@@theundeadgentleman4998 oh nice! Thanks. I just looked it up and it's insanely expensive and/or time consuming to make. Might save that one for another day...

a link to the build specifically? please?
I ran the balthazar boss fight on my support quickbrand with a friend. I didn't do the kind of damage he did (he was a power reaper) but he went down a decent amount because he didn't know the telegraphs, and I realized early in that I could almost passively heal through all the adds and even some of the telegraphs so I would just rez him when he went down and do my dps pretty much whenever book 1 was off cooldown XD
This looks like so much fun to play, can't wait to get it all set up on my ele. Would it be possible for you to sreenshot or something all your ruins and trinkets etc so I can do the build. Thanks :D
Did I miss the gear stat? Is it all berserker armor and trinkets with marauder weapons?
probably maurader weapons + trinkets and zerker armor.
Dude appreciate this much. Hope you include rotation on your next video. =)
did he say what armor stats he was using and I just missed it?
He is using a combination of Berserker and Marauder's stats. Also he has another video about runes, stats and food.
This is his video for stats/gear in general that he is following for this solo/open world series: ua-cam.com/video/RImXHc2KLbE/v-deo.html
Can't wait for Ranger! My go-to open world toon...though I did recently roll an Ely I haven't played it yet.
Um...did I miss it or did he not say what stat set his gear was? I saw the runes and sigils, but what was the gear set? Also, it there a link to the full build somewhere?
Just wondering if you covered boon strip for this (or other open world) builds and I missed it? It's not usually a big deal in the open world but there are some cases like that Chak hero point where it is useful and I'm wondering if there's a trick I'm missing on ele.
are u using gw2hook? or why does your game looks so clean? :D
Wow you have great graphics lol! I think you have sold me on Elemental 🖒
Is it bad that I'm really excited for the Rev one even though I know the answer's going to be Sword+Sword/Staff?
Thanks!
So a year later there is no imbued melodies. Instead its trancendent tempest. Is that on better than elemental bastion?
"People underestimate how strong weakness is..." I wanna know how that works ^^;
@@TiroDvD Also glances can never crit, so it's actually more than half damage because it removes the 150% boost + whatever ferocity would also be there
The doubt i have with the "50% of attacks" is that, is it a 50% proc chance? or is it 1 normal attack and 1 weak then repeat?
I don't know what is funnier now. Your joke, or that whooshing noise I heard as it flew over some peoples heads in here ;)
I love playing tempest, but condi elementalist has always been my preferred play. I believe condi tempest was a thing back in the day, but condi Weaver is so much fun currently. Not the point of this series, but you can beat it for fun :P
A question does the increased stun from the stormsoul trait stack with the increase stun from sigil of savagery?
I am curious what is the main bar key map you use to control your skills? Do you just click them all I see is 3 dots on each of the 5 skills?
Cant wait to try this out 😁
I would definitely say the necro has the strongest Downstate, just by virtue of the double lifesteal making it mostly unkillable xD
Granted as a necro main, my necro naturally has more deaths total than any other character I have, but in any given period of time my necro dies less than any other class Ive played by far
ranger downstate is kinda strong aswell. Pet rezz outheals any damage in normal open world. .
I would like to see your gear stats. There are many options, right. But for lazy ppl like me it would be convinient to just copy yours or change it slightly after using yours as a baseline =)
wow that frenzy sigil is something, I'll definitely try this out OwO
What would you recommend for off hand?? :)
I thank Dwayna for your channel, WP! Time to respec and dust off the ele
What is that outfit / Wardrobe set? looks awesome
what do you think about the tempest traits changes? Harmonious Conduit and transcendent tempest?
How do you get that Aura/Infusion that adds the lightning cloud effect around your character?
It's from the Legendary sceptor
hi what weapon would you suggest using while still leveling instead of the warhorn as it only becomes available at level 80 after learning the tempest specialization?
is this build still the same with the last changes and updates?
if not can you update it please?
Great video i loved it.
The last thing u explained about the overload, did it mean u had the overload effect applying without having the cast time&animations ?
I never played any light armor classes but this kind of videos makes me wanna try every build ^^
Can't wait to see ranger and revenant.
Hell ya I'm gonna give this a try!
Amazing video thanks !
i really wanna try this now , it'll be a change of weaver
hmm.. I'm a big fan of overloads on ele, but I never tried warhorn.. I'm going to have to check this out.
Out of curiosity, what is that aura you have that's leaving little lightning bolts as you run?
That's the visual effect of Meteorlogicus, which is the sceptre he's using. All legendary weapons leave a special footfall effect behind, Meteorlogicus causes storm clouds and lightning
@@theundeadgentleman4998 oh nice! Thanks. I just looked it up and it's insanely expensive and/or time consuming to make. Might save that one for another day...
As a newbie, is there an updated version to this build? Just got tempest but I'm squishy AF
Is there a sword waver build you can do? Please.
I will change my Charr -Shaman- Elementalist will use this build I like it. Can not wait for the Ranger one since that is my "main".
I used to love this kind of tempest st up until I started playing a modified version of cellofrag's weaver. Both are great for PvE stuff though. Good times.
How come no one ever goes into ele gear? Its alaways stats and combo's :
Lys look really high tho 40:10
i can hear her saying : surf up dude i'm so high right now
Why you didn't use rune of elementalist??
Haven't played for a few years. What is 'break bar' on a mob?
With the (idiotic) removal of Lesser Lava Font, does it maybe make more sense to use Water than Fire?
