This game had me creating a Taiwanese PSN account and buying it with my mom’s Taiwanese credit card… Never thought I’d be asking my mom to buy me a game in my 30s! 😂
I got this game last week and I think it's basically the PS4 version with next generation graphics. I played the PS4 Spirits and this back to back and the upgraded graphics are certainly noticeable. However, I felt that the games played about the same, with maybe the exception of batting being slightly more of a challenge. But this is only after about 3-4 games so it's possible I'm missing some nuances. In terms of smoothness of game play and fun, I've always preferred PowerPro (I've played thousands of games in PowerPro on Switch and probably dozens in Spirits even though I own the Switch and PS4 versions), but fans of baseball video games needs to play this game in my opinion just to see how great it looks.
Loving the game so far, but it has the same glaring issue as past versions: getting the COM to swing out of the zone is an absolute chore. Even low-level players will not chase an 0-2 slider an inch or two out of the zone unless you absolutely nail Best Pitch perfectly, which feels completely unrealistic. I doubt that every NPB player has the eye of Barry Bonds circa 2004. It means I end up trying to paint the corners with something offspeed on an 0-2 and end up getting hammered, so it doesn't feel like it really matters trying to get ahead in the count.
@@seanomatopoeia the pitching BAR with the red lines as you select pitches helps with determining if the batter is guessing fastball or offspeed, you have to changes speeds often to get them chasing and swinging off blance. Stale? It's a fucking ripoff. I went from 19 to 22 and all the bugs where still there. It's absolutely pathetic what they release each year, sports games shouldn't be released yearly anyway and all of that wouldn't be tolerated if they didn't have an exclusive licensing agreement. If other companies could make other MLB games, there would be pressure on San Diego Studios to actually fix problems that have been around for a kid you not a decade plus. For example why is the sinker almost as slow as the splitter and the fastest you can throw a sinker is 95mph. They added outlier to "fix" the problem instead of fixing the problem. Cutters are as a matter of fact slower than sinkers so it makes sense that cutters are faster than the 2 seamer and sinker in the game. Pitch velocities is just exexample, there are countless.

I've been watching a lot of videos of this game. Maybe it's just me but there's something I noticed from some of them: Either the pitcher's head on the mound shrinks or their body build becomes really swole lol. Maybe it's just Hanshin's pitchers that's affected by this since I mostly watch gameplay stuff with that team
I got the game and thought the graphic was absolutely incredible despite some familiar motions and cutscenes which I thought would be updated. However there is only so much you can do and since they improved so much on their graphic and audio (love how you mentioned about the dome/outdoor stadium difference), I will give them a pass. My favorite player to use in previous Prospi games is always Yu Darvish. His pitch arsenal is just unbeatable with almost every single direction filled in 1st AND 2nd layer. I give this game a 4.5/5 and definitely recommend to all who is interested in NPB.

If you are referring to creating an original player to be use in various modes, it is now done mostly through Spirits mode (スピリッツ), Hakyyu no Kiseki (白球のキセキ) or Star Player mode (スタープレイヤー). Spirits mode offers the fastest way to create a new player. You basically play a game of five-card draw poker and earn attribute points in different categories as you get a set each round. Once you've played a certain amount of rounds you are done, and you can then spend the attribute points on upgrading the character the same way you'd do in Koshien mode (high schooler mode) in previous entries, as well as customize the player's name and look etc. It takes about 5 minutes to create a new player through Spirits mode, but the player will most likely be very average since it's really luck-base. Hakyyu no Kiseki replaces Koshien mode and you are no longer playing as a high school player but a high school coach instead. It's the exact same as Eiken Nine from the PowerPro series. You take a nobody school and spend years turning it into a Koshien champion level school. Each year you will take in new students whose names and looks you can customize. And you have three years to train them up before they graduate. Once a batch of students graduate, they will get a career path according to their performance during their high school years. Any players who end up becoming professional baseballer you can register as new original players (you can use item to influence that if you wanna make sure you can register your favourite players). It'd take hours of play time before your school can output great players who'd turn pro, but once you hit that late game stage (with highly upgraded equipments, proper support from your graduates in various careers, good recruitment network for talented new students, and a consistently strong squad), you can consistently pump out some really good players (saw a guy who's played this mode for over 50 hours and has a squad of 400-600 stars high schoolers lol). In Star Player mode, you can either start with one of your original player, or make a rookie from scratch. Starting from scratch will give you a selection of presets to create a base for a rookie level player. Either way you will start in the B team of the team you choose. And you will improve the players through training, completing challenges and various events in game. Once your player retires, you will have the option to save him as an original player to be used in other modes. Like Hakyuu mode this one would take hours of playing before you can create a decent player. But since you can retire anytime you want (at the end of each season), you can create a really good player this way as well. HOWEVER, players created in Star Player mode cannot be used in a new Star Player mode playthrough, so all you can do with this player is either put them in your original team, or use him in Pennant mode.

Why don’t they just release this in US? Like what would it hurt them to just make it playable in the US? I’d buy a PS5 just to play
It’s is kind of weird that they don’t. They’ve already released it in a few other regions outside Japan without a proper localization. It’s baffling as to why they won’t in a way. On the other hand, I could see somebody picking up the game and complaining that it’s not completely in English, even if Konami clearly stated that on the product page. - Danny
It’s embarrassing for SDS how much better Ohtani looks in this compared to The Show.
I gotta buy this!!!
english translation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So the review doesnt talk about the online cause he doesn't have ps plus 😒
That’s right. Sorry about that. I already sub to Nintendo Switch Online and Game Pass. It seems like a bit of overkill to add one more subscription to my life for games and features that I won’t have time to try out. - Danny
If you can, don't buy the Steam version. Their business is EA and UBIsoft, and they're selling the alpha version.
region free?
Yep! - Danny
ayo hide this game - MLB The Show SDS team
BETTER THAN THE SHOW
Konami makes good sports games too bad they don't make American ones anymore
Love to see how this feels. So damn sick of The Show.... 🤢
the steam version of this game is so horribly optimized I wouldn't recommend this to anyone outside of consoles
That seems to be all I’ve been hearing, too. Glad I bought a PS5 over the summer (primarily for this game!). - Danny
MLB is horrendous. Graphics are pathetic. Animations are pathetic. COMMENTARY IS THE WORST LIKE MADDEN. This game will blow the show out of the water by far
Ok fielding in this game is awful, horrible compare to the show it way to unresponsive and awkward and it feels delay and the players move way to slow easy outs become hits because of it
