I always found it hilarious that the outfielders sometimes dashed toward the infield when a home run was hit in MLB '99 like they were coming to beat the crap out of the pitcher.
I’m sure a lot of kids look at 96 like it’s a joke, but I can remember being amazed with the graphics at the time, especially how much better it was then NES baseball games.
Yeah I remember when ken Griffey jr baseball came out for Super Nintendo that was the first time there was realistic looking stadiums. Then I was amazed at how good the graphic were for PlayStation at the late late 90s.
Without even seeing the caption or thumbnail, I could instantly tell that 2003 - 2004 was a generation jump. You no longer see such massive generational improvements with new consoles.
MLB 98 & 99 will always be my fav... those games had the best most responsive infield controls IMO... diving for grounders and then turning double plays was so much fun.
I remember in MLB 07 in road to the show mode that if you took a huge lead off the pitcher would always throw to your base, so if you started running right away you would always be able to steal the base (even home plate)
I have mlb the show 23 for ps4 but play it on my ps5 sometimes i notice the people in the upper decks getting up form there seats and moving around. Im like wow
One thing I would love to happen is they make all of the commentators to AI voices of themselves. That way you could choose whatever commentators you wanted and they could make as many lines for them to say as they wanted because they didn't need them in the studio.

MVP was amazing but let's be honest, both baseball games were great in that magical 03-05 era. Competition forces developers to make the best game possible. Since competition is gone, we don't see innovation in baseball games, well, sports games in general.
One thing I miss from 06-09 era (idr when exactly) was the pitch recognition. Depending on the batters stats, the ball would flash a certain color based on what type of pitch it was. And some deliveries could hide it better naturally, and pitchers stats also combatted it. It was a great feature

@@DTRB1979 guess pitch is different than what he is describing. It sounds like he's describing the hitters eye feature from MVP Baseball 05. The Show has never had this feature and guess pitch is somewhat similar, but different overall.
@GameDayonYT you're correct. While the Show had and has guess pitch where the strike zone flashes or even shows the location where the ball will be thrown, it has never been color coded like MVP. The Show hasn't had pitch recognition based on color like MVP.

Gameplay for 23 still needs improvement. Runners never run through first base on a bang bang play. 1st basemens need to stay on 1st to be able to try and throw out a runner from the outfield. Runners need to round first base, not stop at first when getting a hit. More realistic running routes need to be implemented. More plays need to be challenge-able! Some of the crowd should have baseball gloves as it is in real life. All home runs have balls getting caught barehanded. Background graphics need to be updated to make the ballpark more realistic, have cars in the parking lots and not empty lots. Have things actually look real. People actually selling items in the stands. Beach balls in the stands, have the crowd start the wave around the stadium. Maybe add a blimp cam from above. Implement the new lighting systems for ballparks. It would be cool for the show to have a my player mode that lets you walk all over each teams stadium like nba2k with its virtual world
This video is the perfect way to respond to those who claim “baseball is baseball, it’s the game same so it can’t be improved, no matter what you do it’s still baseball” look at the improvements made from old to new consoles back in the day. Yeah it’s baseball, but that doesn’t mean the pitchers have to look robotic. Totally gave up on improving the game the last ten years. Should have just made it a yearly subscription for reduced rate and kept the rosters updating with some DLC stadiums
I was playing triple play on pc. Got on the show on 07. Almost have played every single one since. Best sport franchise by far. A shame they couldn't keep the option to follow your career
Baseball games back then were perfect. Triple play and MLB were staples. 2k baseball graphically looked great but the gameplay was subpar. Triple play will always be the G.O.A.T. baseball game to me.
In all honesty, once it got to the PS4 Around 17 or 18, honestly from a Graphics standpoint hardly anything has really changed these past 5-6 years its basically the same game with just minor improvements from a Visual standpoint but the gameplay does get better every year. Gameplay is more improved over past 5 years than graphics.

MLB 08 is the game that convinced me to get a PS3. I remember playing the demo for it at a friend's house and I just couldn't get over how good the game looked and played. Was playing MLB 2K6 on 360 and MLB 08 absolutely shit all over that game

Honestly I feel like there's been an improvement in every successive game that they've released. Rare to find that in a sports video game nowadays (Madden, NBA 2K come to mind). Also, I remember as a kid we had MLB 2K6 on the PS2, with Derek Jeter on the cover. That was a super good game for its time. Me and my younger brother and Dad would have so much fun intentionally plunking each other, and they even had a feature where you could get your manager thrown out of the game 😅. Great memories!

03-05 is a huge jump, then 2010 to current looks basically the same with small graphical updates. I guess the closer it gets to looking realistic, the tougher it'd be to see a big change. 05-08 were the golden years.
Looking at these back to back, im seeing a lot of similarities between the recent games and going back to 2013. Never realized they've been recyclign the animations for that long, they just update the graphics slightly.

The game has gotten worse in the last 6 years or so. They don’t pay attention to road to the show any more and it is the best mode. Most of their resources go to Diamond Dynasty for the micro-transactions. I’m really disappointed in their recent games.

Mmm well I would say there is a substantial difference in the level of detail once we hit the ps3 era. Before, look at the crowd, the details of the jerseys, and the diverse way the players move their bodies. After the ps4 era there hasn’t been that much improvement. The facial animations are somewhat better. I’ve tried ‘21 and ‘23 recently. I found ‘23 to be more beginner friendly but difficulty is subjective.

First played MLB The Show 06 and haven’t looked back since. Had a hiatus for several years since I didn’t have a PS3 but love that game.
Since 'the show 23' has a WBC mode, it feels like it might have a different vibe from the previous series.
