Slivers. All time favorite deck. I've got a 5 color modern /and/ a 5 color commander, but it has Sliver Hivelord and Sliver Legion, with Sliver Overlord as its commander. Nice to see a budget alternative so that everybody can experience the magic that is the Sliver. One of us... One of us...
Just a small comment on choosing Ghostflame Sliver: you said it could be helpfull against Intimidate, but actually it's the opposite and wouldn't work at all against that, because a creature with Intimidate can only be blocked by an artifact creature or a creature it shares a color with, so with Ghostflame Sliver on the battlefield none of your slivers would be able to block a creature with Intimidate, except of course Metallic Sliver, Sliver Construct and Venser's Sliver. Other than that it looks fun to play with at such low price.
Hi Dalton Pouliot! (we can't reply to your comment). We have to agree that Sliver Overlord ($16.17) is an awesome card, not as cheap as Sliver Hivelord ($6.87) but an excellent commander. We decided to avoid the Overlord as we find that adding tutor effects reduces the randomness of commander games and variety is really one of the charms of this format. Regarding the land base....you may be right, we didn't run into any problems during playtesting, but we are open to the idea that it can be made even better. You could post your land base for this deck and perhaps other can benefit from it! Thanks for your observations! ;)
Just a heads up to anyone watching this video in 2017, the price of many slivers have gone done quite a bit. Winged Sliver and Heart Sliver are now worth about 25 cents each while cards such as Bonescythe Sliver (which has the exact same effect as Fury Sliver but with a much lower cmc) are typically well under $2, sometimes even under $1.
I'm actually thinking about starting commander with this deck, haven't been around Magic in a few years. Apart from your suggestion, is the list still viable?
Absolutely. Commander is a pretty casual format with access to almost EVERY single card in the history of magic so there's not really that much of a widespread meta outside your local LGS or playgroup, let alone one in which the viability of decks will constantly shift like standard or modern. Since you haven't played in years, I say just build the deck as listed in the video (apart from some of the cards I listed above, replacing cards like Spinneret Sliver with better ones like Winged Sliver.) That being said, I've got a few more suggestions for cards a little over $1 that you might want to look into as you get more comfortable with this deck. One card that came out after this video's release is Cryptolith Rite. It's an enchantment that basically does the exact same thing as Gemhide Sliver. And while you're at it, if you're willing to spend just 30 cents over $1, Manaweft Sliver also does the exact same thing as Gemhide. Running all 3 should give you some nice extra mana ramp. Personally, I think the 2 Trample enablers in this deck give diminishing returns due to the amount of evasion abilities already available in this deck, and especially because the ones featured in the budget build have a bit of a high mana cost. I only run 1 trampler in my deck -- Horned Sliver, which is about $2.50 and is only a 2G. If you're looking cheaper however, Primal Rage is an enchantment which does the exact same thing, that's about $1 cheaper and costs only 1G. But that's just something I prefer with my deck and I can't really say that's the definitive way to build slivers. Anyway, I've probably overloading you with information at this point. TL;DR: It's a fun and still viable deck, especially for someone trying to get back into Magic.
Don't worry about overloading me, I play other TCGs competitively so I'm pretty comfortable with card games. I'll take your suggestions in consideration in case I start with the Sliver Deck, at the moment I'm struggling to decide between this and the white/green token deck on this channel.
Another great combo with Ghostflame Sliver is All is Dust. I know it goes outside of your budget restraint but it is truly powerful. It causes all players to sacrifice, with the sacrifice being key. It gets past other players Indestructibility, Hexproof, Shroud, etc. A great video, Sliver tribal for less than $40 is awesome. I think another reason to build this deck, you can upgrade it over time. This deck will be with you for a long time and you can just continue to make it better. A great starting place for anybody who has limited funding, is new to Magic or both. Great job.
About 5:10: Spinneret Sliver came out before reach was a keyword. The card has since been errata'd to read "All sliver creatures have reach". In other news, since this is my first comment on one of your videos: I've watched them all, in some cases many times, and I love the work you guys have done. You just started, and are already one of my favorite magic youtube channels.
Hi there Seismicsmasher! You are 100% correct, it is clear now that our Slivers will never be able to block Silhana Ledgewalker ;). Also thanks for the support! Getting messages like this is what drives us forward with enthusiasm!
Can't wait for the rest of those guild deck techs. I really want to build them and then have my friends gather for a tourney to settle once and for all, the best guild...on a budget anyway.
seismicsmasher they are indeed perfect for a tournament, if you don't have time to draft or if you go on a trip and you don't want to take your whole collection. Anyway, you won't have to wait long for the next one as we are filming the Golgari Swarm episode this Sunday ;).
Really like the deck and it is a good source for some cards that I haven't thought about yet of my own as I'm trying to make my own EDH Slivers deck. My budget is set a little bit higher and I will start with the Overlord as Commander but this is a good starting point nonetheless.
@@BudgetMTGDecks How would one go about updating it to be more up to date? Is there even a need to? I want this to be my first real commander deck which I can upgrade over time
For the question of the video: Maybe Elementals? Horde of Notions as the general. He's even under a dollar ($0.40 right now). To anyone building this deck, I'd recomend: Mirror Entity ($0.89) -- Complete House. Counts as a Sliver. Makes Slivers X/X's for {X}. Stacks with other Buffs. Only 3mana to play. Call to the Kindred ($0.29) -- is the same as Descendants' Path (32:25), except being blue, costing one more, attaching to a creature, and letting you select from the top five rather than Path's one. Clot Sliver or Crypt Sliver ($0.40) -- Your commander provides Indestructible, but you might lose it to Lignify, -1/-1 effects, or to exiling removal until it's too expensive. Farseek ($0.18) -- Second Rampant Growth, but can't get Forest. Does get Shock Lands if you happen to own any. For anyone who wants to upgrade just a bit -- In Order of Recommendation: Winged Sliver ($1.65) Bonescythe Sliver ($1.95) Brood Sliver ($2.00) Obelisk of Urd ($2.72) Beastmaster Ascension ($1.93) One of the first non-budget cards I'd reach for is Coat of Arms, because +1/+1 to each Sliver for each other Sliver is funny. On the off-chance that it comes up in anyone's game: 5:00 Spinneret Sliver's oracle text on Gatherer reads 'reach'.
Thanks for the suggestion and for giving such great suggestions for alternative cards Viron Darkstar. We are sure people appreciate the additional options ;).
Hi Zachary! (Change your Google+ settings so we can reply to your post). We would love to do a Red/White Budget Commander deck for you. Currently we are still debating over which commander should lead this band of soldiers. So thanks for the vote for Tajic! We have added him to our list. ;)
Hi Frito, we are concerned that with Brion we will not have enough steam to keep sacrificing creatures in order to kill everyone (Multiplayer). What do you do to make sure you don't run out of cards and hence run out of creatures to sacrifice. Plus how do you protect yourself while you sacrifice all your creatures?
I actually use a lot of threaten effects like Act of Treason and Act of Agression (instant speet ftw). I can ruin people's plans by stealing their commanders and flinging them back at them. As for keeping up on my creatures, I use cards like Angelic Renewal, Gift of Immortality, Sigil of the New Dawn, Boros and Dawn Charm, Glory, and Devoted Caretaker. For card draw I have cards like Skullclamp (sadly not under $1), and Well of Lost Dreams which lets me pay X and draw cards up to what I gain from Brion's lifelink. Another core part of my deck is Phyrexian Processor, which I can pay an absurd amount of life, then start popping out biggies and flinging them at people, gaining the life back in the process. Here's my decklist, tappedout.net/mtg-decks/friendfoe-flinger/ not everything is under $1, and there are some expensives in there, but I was able to trade for most of those. The cards I listed specifically in this comment (besides Skullclamp) were all $1 or less.
FritoFox great deck and a sweet way to use your opponents fatties against them ;). We can definitely see this deck being a great deck to be built on a budget. It's going on the list ;),
I think that if you really want to build this deck to get better over time as you slowly save up you can use sliver legion for a greater power or you could go with the sliver overlord so you can search up slivers
I really enjoyed this video. Might I recommend adding a Manaweft sliver in addition to Gemhide? And maybe replace Fury sliver with Bonescythe. Thanks! :)
What about the card: Sliver overlord, which allows you to search for any sliver that you need, as your commander? The only issue I can come up with is if an opponent exiles your sliver hivelord making it so that you cannot make your slivers undetectable? What's your opinion? In addition to that, if you have your commander out and you can use the card world slayer to equip hivelord with it you pretty much win against anyone so it wouldn't matter if they all turned against you lol. I'm not someone who likes to net deck, but this deck looks really fun and I want to give it a shot. Thanks for the time and effort in making the deck and the videos, ill be waiting for more to arrive for which I have subscribed.
I have two major problems, one is common knowledge, one is preference. First up: use sliver overlord as commander. So much better, plus you can just put hivelord in the deck and search for him. Love this, just a question how do you deal with "Return All to your hand" mechanics, like Cyclonic Rift or Upheaval. I have been trying to get around them in my playgroup and really can't do anything against this if there are no counters in my hand...
You don't really get around it +Kresnic02CR. With magic everything has a way of dealing with it so indestructible can be stopped with return to hand or exile mechanics. Sure you can counters spell it but other than that you can just play around it by not playing all the creatures in your hand, just enough that it's a threat and they are forced to play the boardwipe when it only returns a few creatures to your hand.
Hi guys! I really enjoy your videos, keep it up! :) I am surprised that there is no Winged Sliver on the list. It is very cheap (~0,5$) and you can replace him Levitation ;)
Mmm flavor wise it does not really fit. It's an animated artifact fighting together with Slivers. But it is a strong card so it won't harm the deck if you put it in.
Hi karaiyn, we found during playtesting that the sidewinder didn't really impact the game in a very meaningful way. Usually attacking with indestructible, deathtouch, first strike creatures was difficult enough to block. Plus if they don't block the sidewinder sliver does nothing.
quick question, im kind of a new player and the wording confuses me sometimes but if your slivers had indestructible and you had fungus sliver on the field (as you say at 14:00 )should'nt the dmg slivers get be prevented and fungus sliver would'nt trigger?
+Budget MTG Decks i actually don't know what would make a good commander. I just got into magic when origins came out. the two decks that caught my eyes were slivers and elderazis. elderazis are also kinda expensive ahah
Yeah that's the big problem with them, they are strong, but also expensive (mana wise). Plus the lack of clear commander makes it difficult to build around. We do have a commander deck coming out in a few weeks which cheats in some of the biggest eldrazi into play. Perhaps that might be fun too?
It's more of a win-more card E Nabors. Dragons are already pretty big so the +2/+2 does not do much. Also the reason we don't recommend crucible of fire.
We can think of a lot more strategies which are more unfair than flavorful tribe strategies. Perhaps playing a control deck will change their minds on what's fair?
Why not just play all the Signets and all the Panorama lands? They are dirtcheap, they fix Mana just the same as your mana converter (probably better) and do ACTUALLY Ramp (the signets do). besides that for sliver archetype in commander the Sliver Overload is waaay better. hands down. =D
Neither the Signets nor the Panorama lands give the flexibility we require when it comes to having access to all 5 colors. Plus the Panorama lands slow you down are even worse than Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic expanse. But yeah, Sliver Overlord is way better, but also quite expensive.
Hi Nerull! After extensive play testing against the other Budget MTG Decks (including ones not yet filmed) we found that although it can't cheat in fatties early like Karador or Rakdos, this Sliver Hivelord deck reliably establishes an indestructible board presence by turn five. We found that early enough, as Commander is a bit slower and the 40 point life total gives the Sliver player a bit more breathing room to get all the pieces he/she needs. After that, a wall of indestructible, reaching, deathtouching slivers or wrath effect swings the game in their favor.
Budget MTG Decks Very cool then. Will be building one of yours decks for sure, still have to choose one to start ! great tecks . Keep up, will share it.
Budget MTG Decks allies are great too , they basically tuttor each other , which is great , but once in the field they don't have the same impact as slivers - I mean face to face slivers would plow thru them BUT an ally deck would become a presence faster on the field unless you manage to get the manadork slivers on your opening hand
Also wouldn't a sliveroverlord edh deck be a cheaper build ? Most cards with changeling are cheap , like mirror entity or cribswap , they're powerful , cheap and synergistic
Slivers. All time favorite deck. I've got a 5 color modern /and/ a 5 color commander, but it has Sliver Hivelord and Sliver Legion, with Sliver Overlord as its commander. Nice to see a budget alternative so that everybody can experience the magic that is the Sliver.

Thorncaster sliver plus venom sliver makes a great combination in wiping the board before blockers are assigned.
You are right Alejandro! Thorncaster sliver is already a powerful card, but in combination with the venom sliver it's pretty much game.
Made in 2014.
4 years old going into 2019.

Making this deck _IN_ 2019? *_WORTH_*

Winged Sliver is only $0.32 currently. Gives all slivers flying.
Galerider sliver is the expensive one.
Yeah this deck was built when Winged Sliver was over $1 in price.
I have two major problems, one is common knowledge, one is preference. First up: use sliver overlord as commander. So much better, plus you can just put hivelord in the deck and search for him. Building my first EDH deck with slivers and found some great insight from this video but I was wondering why go Descendant's path instead of Call to the Kindred :P
From what I'm aware, CTTK is under a dollar
Good question RacinZilla003, no particular reason, we were just not aware of CTTK at the time. We have however used in our new Budget Scion of the Ur-Dragon deck ;).
the winged sliver on Card Kingdom is .79 cents if you want flying sliver creature =)
Yeah its dropped in price quite a bit since we built the deck!
another great job guys
Question for you. If I wanted to spend 60 to 100, what should I switch out from this deck?
what cards should i take out and put in if i wanted to spend like, idk $20-50 more dollers? for the semi budget build? some1 help
I want to buy this deck pretty much as is what is the best way of going about it as people are taking the piss with playset pricing?
I would put command tower in this deck, fantastic fixing
Hi Noah Llorens, command tower fits in literally any commander deck. That is also why it's not a budget card....
Ghostflame Sliver laughs at All is Dust.
Indeed! Not to mention Wash Out ;).
Hi guys! I really enjoy your videos, keep it up! :)
I am surprised that there is no Winged Sliver on the list. It is very cheap (~0,5$) and you can replace him Levitation ;)
Hi +bWrobz MtG, we believe that Winged sliver was over a $1 when we first built the deck. However we would definitely add it now!
Have a feeling if you had a space for upgrades the slivers that give flying would be in there
Hehe you guessed correctly +Huon Kelly. That's the reason we added the enchantment which gives our creatures flying ;).
Hey guys :) build a deck based on this video (overlord commander tough) , thanks for all the tipps
Mmm flavor wise it does not really fit. It's an animated artifact fighting together with Slivers. But it is a strong card so it won't harm the deck if you put it in.
Please do one on leovald, no matter how much hate it gets
Not sure we want to do that, Leovold is at $50 right now and most of our decks are under $30 for the whole deck.
How about adding a sidewinder sliver in the deck as well?
Hi karaiyn, we found during playtesting that the sidewinder didn't really impact the game in a very meaningful way. Usually attacking with indestructible, deathtouch, first strike creatures was difficult enough to block. Plus if they don't block the sidewinder sliver does nothing.
WOOOW JULLIE ZIJN NEDERLANDS (ACCENT)

Quick comment why isn't manaweft sliver in the deck aswell as gem his sliver?
Good question +Huon Kelly, Manaweft Sliver is over a $1.
quick question, im kind of a new player and the wording confuses me sometimes but if your slivers had indestructible and you had fungus sliver on the field (as you say at 14:00 )should'nt the dmg slivers get be prevented and fungus sliver would'nt trigger?
Good question, it's not that indestructible creatures don't take damage (they do), it just can't kill them.
thorncaster sliver and venom sliver . . . pinging with deathtouch . . . yeeeeeeeeeeeeha
Could this mana base and fixing work for other 5 color EDH decks?
Yeah should not be a problem. You can also look at the mana base for Scion of the Ur-Dragon.
could you do an experiment kraj deck please
Thanks for the suggestion! We will add it to the list.
what about a zombie tribal deck that would be cool
Ghoulcaller Gisa is coming soon +David Wrobel...
What do you guys think of this as a step-up to this deck?
tappedout.net/mtg-decks/sliver-commander-semi-budget/
anyway you can do an elderazi commander deck?
Hi +jeremy finn, perhaps after the next set comes out. Which commander would make a great Eldrazi commander?
+Budget MTG Decks i actually don't know what would make a good commander. I just got into magic when origins came out. the two decks that caught my eyes were slivers and elderazis. elderazis are also kinda expensive ahah
Yeah that's the big problem with them, they are strong, but also expensive (mana wise). Plus the lack of clear commander makes it difficult to build around. We do have a commander deck coming out in a few weeks which cheats in some of the biggest eldrazi into play. Perhaps that might be fun too?
+Budget MTG Decks is this commander deck already on your channel???? i hope it is fun xP
Yes it is, it's the Jhoira of the Ghitu deck.
oh please, world slayer
can you put this into a list for us???
It is in a list. Just check the video description.
I watched the whole thing instead but thank you it us awesome keep up the work!!!!!
obelisk of urd??
It's more of a win-more card E Nabors. Dragons are already pretty big so the +2/+2 does not do much. Also the reason we don't recommend crucible of fire.
Nice done;)
I hav 1 more price 1:D
i love playing slivers and tribes but my playgroup are very hateful toward 'unfair' strategies ;(
We can think of a lot more strategies which are more unfair than flavorful tribe strategies. Perhaps playing a control deck will change their minds on what's fair?
maybe, they seem to dislike slivers specificly though.
Out of all tribes, slivers is probably has the most synergy.
Anyone tried it?? aint it "slow" ?
That title doesn't seem right
How so? Is there something we missed?
... impact tremors and banefire anyone?
Of All the tribal decks , non seem more fit for commander like slivers
What about Allies?
Budget MTG Decks allies are great too , they basically tuttor each other , which is great , but once in the field they don't have the same impact as slivers - I mean face to face slivers would plow thru them BUT an ally deck would become a presence faster on the field unless you manage to get the manadork slivers on your opening hand
Also wouldn't a sliveroverlord edh deck be a cheaper build ? Most cards with changeling are cheap , like mirror entity or cribswap , they're powerful , cheap and synergistic
U guys sound dutch
That's a ludicrous accusation! And we won't stand for such slander! Also it's true :p.
