  • This week I had the chance to hit the theater to check out Late Night with the Devil, an original nostalgia soaked flick I've had my eye on since it was announced. If you don't get the chance to check it out theatrically it will be hitting Shudder on April 19th. #latenightwiththedevil #shudder #moviereview #podcast #horror #possession #daviddastmalchian
In 1977 a live television broadcast goes horribly wrong, unleashing evil into the nation's living rooms.

I thought, creatively, it would have been awesome to actually air the commercials in the breaks and have it become more sinister subliminally with each break

I was thinking the same thing. it would be a cool alternate version

I’m sure they considered it. I’m sure they traded it to keep the behind the scenes parts more natural.

To be honest, I think your take on how the ending should have gone was pretty basic and less entertaining than how it actually went down. The ending really sticks with you after the movie as it makes you wonder how much of what we saw was real (kinda like Joker 2019). It made me think, was "the possessed Lili killing everyone" scenario actually true or was it Jack who snapped became possessed killed them all while we see what's happening in his mind during his A24 ordeal. I loved this film

Yea that’s what I got from the ending… I feel like jack murdered everyone in some manic state and what we saw throughout the film is what he wanted he imagined… this isn’t an a24 movie btw

How would Jack have burned Carmichaels body to a crisp in a matter of minutes?

The popular psychic medium from the early 2000s was John Edward, who did the cold readings of making a bunch of sounds until he got a “hit” and people filled in the blanks for him.
The characters were definitely heavily based on James Randi, a magician who would go onto The Tonight Show and expose frauds. He was feisty but not as much of an asshole as the character in the movie.
Christou was based off of two people Randi exposed. One was Uri Geller, the psychic who would bend spoons. I think the other was the faith healer Peter Popoff. He would pretend that he was getting messages from God about people, but it turns out that they had those people fill out prayer cards and his wife would feed him that information through radio transmissions.
The James Randi million dollar challenge was a real offer up for grabs for anyone who could prove paranormal abilities under controlled settings. There were a couple of tests available. One of them was a secret message kept in a locked safe, and anyone who could use their powers to read what it was would get the million dollars.

I think the “artsy A24-Type” segment at the ending was another hypnotic hallucination, this time brought on by the demon. You can see a lot of spirals at the beginning

I loved this movie so much! I think the ending was meant to be the way it was, leaving the audience asking many questions.

I think the end was a Ring-like twist. At one point the cult guy says something about anyone who witnesses their ritual losing their soul or some such. So apparently Jack carried out their ritual sacrifice by killing Lily for all to see. And now we're all eternally damned 🤷

  • @bunnyluver2176

The medium seems based on Uri Geller and the skeptic offering the reward is based on the amazing Randi who offered a million dollars to anyone who could prove psychic powers. Uri was big in the 70s and Randi constantly exposed Uri for the fraud he was.

I'm glad you brung up the skeleton dude somebody should be picking up on the fact that that I almost guarantee is implied to be Satan himself sitting there in the crowd That's why he never has a reaction he just sits there still and calm as can be That's Mephistopheles Satan himself sitting there that's the way I took it

There's a ton of symbolism in the movie, its supposed to represent the Skull and Bones, who are known to have members that have gone to Bohemian Grove/the Grove. George Bush was a known member for example. Remember in the beginning there was a rich couple there to observe the show, they were sitting there just like the skeleton watching and not laughing or moving. There is a demon that is controlling the supernatural stuff but the movie overall was more about ritual sacrifice and secret groups controlling the media. The demon becomes the snow on our tvs implying the demon now possesses all of our entertainment.

@@squatchit5700 Yes but skull and bones is always been accused of being satanic involved and things like that I still feel like that was supposed to be the devil himself he has to have me somewhere I feel like the demon that took over that little girl was one of Satan's demons but Satan was in that room too somewhere cuz the movie is called late night with the devil

Yeah I was a little confused at the end. Did he just kill Lilly or did he kill everyone? Cause If he just killed her the video will show that she was floating and killing everyone. But overall I loved it.

    • @BruceWayne-ri4wr

I'm almost certain he just killed Lily because that would be stupid if he he's the one that killed everybody on stage then there was really no supernatural stuff to it if he's the one that killed everybody

    • @emark8928

Yes Lily killed everyone else, but anyone who witnesses the cult's ritual becomes enslaved to Abraxas. So the public might not learn the truth of what happened anyway.

When Carmichael hypnotized Gus for a second i started to think he was the devil and had been fucking with them the whole time. Especially when he winked at the camera. Love the movie though and great review

New creative and clever way to present a horror film. 👍👍. As a horror film, I'd rate it 8.5 or even 9.0 out of 10. As a film in general, I'd rate it a 7.0 or 7.5. I would strongly recommend this movie to anyone.

I'm disappointed because the “found footage” style isn't that convincing. The reproduction of the 70's scenarios isn't enough to make it realistic. Why I'm inside his paranoia at the end? Is it a camera captured, or they had tech to broadcast psyche journey in 1977?
There are many scenes that are not credible, plus the backstage B&W video… gosh, that's so artificial. The Office or The Rehearsal do that very good.
I have to watch it again, but at this time as a regular horror movie.

Lily left the house with everyone else dead and possessed. Could it be that Jack left the stage with everyone dead and possessed? Could it be that the demon wanted to kill Lily and enter Jack?

    • @biospark4758
      @biospark4758 4 місяці тому

The demon didn’t necessarily enter Jack. It’s said in the movie that anyone who witnesses a ritual sacrifice to the demon comes under its influence. Jack used the ceremonial dagger to kill Lily, thus making it a ritual sacrifice, and putting the viewer under its control
