Nobody talks about the fact that you can warm up your nutriënts (water) and then circulate it through your system, for warming the roots when its cold, or cooling when its hot. This is a huge advantage. You can have a larger growing season. The biggest cost factor in hydroponics is the lighting, like all the other systems. Cheers.
You can avoid overwater with soil if you go with a fabric pot, not only that the fabric pot allows for better roots. Though because it is a fabric pot the air dries the soil faster.
organic soil all the way fits perfect with my work schedule and life I water every other day in the late stages of flower and I am cool with it I enjoy my hour a day or so I spend in my garden.
Last time I grew was 20 years ago ! I'm looking to get back into it I have about 25 seeds from several high end strains I got from a farmer , who usually has a very flavorful terpy sticky nug or joint when I see him . Looking forward to deciding on what I do thanks for your info and advice . It will certainly help I'm sure !

Hey bud just letting everybody know hydro food is the better nute for ANY and all grow mediums or systems, im sure anyone with a bit of experience will back me up . You only get a build up if you use too much and dont rinse. ..anyways there was a few other things but ill leave it to others . It's possible to automate watering with soil as well. Especially if you bottom water.
I use a coco/soil mix with an organic soil nute line. Get very healthy plants. Flowers could be a little denser but I think that is due to lighting.
Been hearing about Coco Coir and I'm happy to have this comparison.

Before going the coco coir route, read as much as possible about the negatives including
*Coir to Perlite ratio
*Special instrument requirements for proper EC, PPM, pH, etc
*best proper nutrient mix
*time required for 3 feedings per day
* expense relative to 30% over-watering run off to insure media saturation
*differing opinions for growth stage lighting requirements
*personal time spent daily for adding nutrient 3 times/day
Not trying to impact your decision to use coco coir just an informative suggestion for beginners and some of the challenges using coco coir.
It has proven to be a better media than 'potting soil' but has more time monitoring constraints. And IF in a grow tent using fabric grow bags, they should be in a saucer suitable to the size of grow bag due to 30% run off 3 times/day to contain that nutrient run off rather than allowing it to drain out on the tent floor, even with a liner.

Hydroton works best for me in hydro. The roots become massive, and the saying "the bigger the roots the bigger the fruits" is totally true. I tried coir, but had too many nutrient lock out issues.
I grow in Mother Earth ground swell with GH line up with no problems

Awesome video! Thanks for sharing. I have just started growing my own microgreens at home as well. I have just purchased Hemp Grow Mats as they seemed to have great reviews and I loved the idea of no soil. So far, so good. Have you used Terrafibre Hemp Grow Mats before?
We have not used a product of that sorts yet, but would be open to trying it out. Let us know how the grow turns out.
If growing food to eat, needs to be organic.
You can use hydroponic nutrients in soil but not the other way around. I made my hydro system mediumless... 3D printers are very, very handy for a grower.
Personally, I always returned to soil. I mix MG potting soil with Fox farm happy frog soil and a lot of perlite for drain. 5 gallon buckets are used. I then grow with RO water and HPS bulbs. That has been my golden standard for several decades and yields are always awsome.
@Ty Ga No matter what anyone says, growing with dirt is about as organic as it gets. MG "is", organic. I'm old, and was around when everyone was saying it's no good for you or your plants..blah blah blah. I've literally been growing weed with it for 30+ years. The weed all gets a week or two of flush at finish, just like with every other nutrient system, and there are never any complaints.

@Ty Ga It doesn't matter where the nutrients come from as long as they're what the plant needs. Since I use RO water, soil PH falls into that 6.5ish range for me, and I make no attempt at manipulating the PH. I'm not going to take the time to compost as the happy farms and MG potting soils are already compost rich. I've never had the soils go sour. I always flush the last week or two, regardless of what another grower says I do, or don't need to do. The finished product smokes better, presses into dabs better, tastes and smells better, and the yield is always top notch. Prepared soils and nutes is organic, period. You're just one of those snobs tripping over words.

Trying hydrocorn for 1st time in rhizo 12 litre cloth pots on a re-circlulating wilma dripper system using shogun range hydro nutrients under a telos 10 pro mesh light which I can turn down from it's max 285watt to 100watt (any wattage can be set) using the telos bluetooth app on my phone. Started seeds in root riots plugs in 1 litre rhizo cloth pots folded in half to 1/2 litre size and surrounded the root riot with hydrocorn. This way i could simply pop seeds in root riots not wet kitchen paper and place these 1 litre pots (so I could transfer to 12litre cloth pots later) in a heated propagator placing the telos light directly on top turning it down to 30 watt. Saves loads on the electric overall and was worth getting the telos mesh starter upgrade kit for my telos 10 pro light as the app sets on/off time. I have 1 nat so I am a lot happier using hydrocorn over tropic mix soil where I had more nat problems. Pump timer for the drippers is set 15 min on 15min off all day (18 hours) and two 15 min segment timer feeds in lights off. All I got to do is check ph every few days and with hydro the worry of over watering in soil is removed. Fully automated system. Finding the shogun nutrients naturally lower the soft water in my area at 6.5 down to 5.8-6.0 so means I don't have to use ph down which is strong stuff.1ml of that in my wilma 40litre tank dropped my ph to 3.5 so won't be using that again in a hurry as had to empty tank and start over. EC with bluelab truncheon is 0.8-1.0 perfect for 2 week old seedlings.
Don't get me wrong tropic mix soil is good as it's 60% peat 40% coco but I think with autoflowers, hopefully I'll get a bigger yield as the plants have everything they need watering/nutrient/oxygen rich wise and hydrocorn can be used forever over and over so has massive appeal to me. Later I hope to get the Lumatec zeus pro 600watt bar light (phonotec in usa) but for now am happy with the telos 10 pro as electric in uk is 20p a kw (very expensive) and telos has optic lenses unlike the lumatec.
Lumatec 2.9umol 1700par 600watt
Telos 10 pro 2.5umol 700par 285watt
Both lights cover 1.2metre x 1.2metre x 2 meter budbox pro tent.
Hope this helps someone thinking of hydro....no soggy roots/worrying about right amount of watering or nats. Rhizopots very good for air pruning roots so no root circling encourages more root growth.
Seen them oxypots and autopots.....bit to advanced for me.
Then there's the whole burping the nugs after in mason jars for 1-2 months lol.

You can use hydroponics fertilizers with soil based plants. You just have to dilute the concentrate and take into account the water volume the plant costumes in a given time. It's not preferred but it does work as the nursery I worked at used hydroponic fertilizers almost exclusively.
You can not use soil based fertilizers in hydroponic set ups tho. It's rarely made to be used directly by the plant and is intended to be broken down my micro organisms in the soil which in the process makes it usable by plants.

Not all hydroponic setups are recirculating. I have been running drain to waste for years, and it's still hydroponic.

I am using shreaded bark from a gum tree and it's pretty good and very cheap. I looked at that Coco stuff and thought that's just like the bark from my tree outside and it grows beautiful orchids

Heard kratky only good for plants that don't flower so growing carolina reaper is out. Recommend tropic mix guano soil which is 60% peat 40% coco and grow in 12 litre rhizo cloth pots which air prune the roots stopping root circling. 2 or 3 weeks just need water then add grow or bloom nutrients later.shogun terra nutrients are good.

Na Hydro is the way to go tbh homie g or soil but not coco. Unless your cool with ur flowers not tasting as good as they should taste n if so then do the coco but if u wany strong potential and amazing tasting fire 🔥🔥🔥 then hydro like i said or soil if u just cant afford hydro at the moment. You will still get that fire with soil its harder tho and alot more into it but hydro u will have an almost complete fire ass grow everytime all frosted sticky n tasty. But dnt make ur own shit buy a real hydro set up cuz most sellers give a 100% satisfaction that u will have amazing shit n offer for free all the help u need!!
i just flipped to coco pete and my plant seedlings are doing Great now they were struggling in soil i swear got so sick of poor seedlings struggling now they are free to root away all they want lol im top dress feeding for now and i am going to get a EM.1 regime going and feed i think just 2x month with organic tea's, see how that goes

You also got to find and measure the right soil acidity as soils have varied Ph levels.
Aquaponics, use hydroponics with fish instead of liquid nutrients, 1 you dont actually need to do anything for the plant, 2 you get a nice fishtank to stare at while you "eat" your "tomatoes " 😉
Yeah better have a 200+ gallon tank or your aqaurium will be all roots

You still have to keep an eye on ph and feed nutes to dwc and change tank every fortnight iam guessing.plus those noisy air stones are not good for stealth and won't fit those oxypots in a normal size tent?

1 thing everyone forgets about coco is coconuts come from places by the sea so it's really salty, unless you buy specifically inland coco which is more expensive.. And washing with water doesn't remove the salts
I grow true live organics in 100gal outdoor full term. And i grow drain to waste coco with synthetics indoor. Been feeding my family this way for 15 years . With outdoor it all looks less appealing than indoor so smell plays a big factor. And with indoor people want to see pumped up fake defined flowers and u sacrifice smell for the bag appeal. And im talking about tomatoes of course.
The Smokin’ Salmon I’m with ya my greenhouse beds are full of three yr old no till soil . And my indoor garden i run living coco . Build a soil is my go too ..
Hand Watered Coco Coir Growing is Hydroponic Growing. You can hand water Rockwool as well just the same. It's still Hydroponic because it's an inert medium.
DWC is the way to go... 👍 Good luck out there
P.S. 5 gal DWC bucket, 6in net pot, hydroton or newer growstones, and with one 14w air pump per bucket (4" cylindrical airstones)... Use GH trio, calimag, and hydroguard, always use hydroguard no matter what... Also always top your plants around week 2 or 3, if you don't you will not have an even canopy... LST is too much work imho, topping is a lot easier and basically yield the same results... Hope this helps somebody out there! Growing plants is so rewarding and a beautiful part of nature.
Those pots won't fit in most peoples 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m tents mind. You still have to empty the pots every fortnight no? Would you say better yield over a hydrocorn, 12 litre rhizo pot x 4, root riot plug 75cm x 75cm wilma dripper system?

Nice video I just wanted to say when you refer to hydroponics you make it sounds a bit complicated when it's really not. If you chose a recirculating system that would be a bit of a headache especially for a noob but if you choose DWC deep water culture, then that's a whole different ball game and super simple. Especially with the right beneficial bacteria added it's truly a set it and forget it process. You wouldn't even need to check pH or nothing because the bacteria would take over and work it's magic and make the nutrients readily available to the plant till it's ready to refill. In doors or green house with the proper temps and environment hydroponics is the best. Once again thank you for the video I'm not trying to bash in any way just trying to help those who are new to the grow scene. 😊👍

Agree....you just can't over water especially in hydrocorn 15 min on 15 off all day 18 hours 2 x 15 min feeds at night.plants get everything they need when they need it (oxygen rich,no nats, rapid growth uses less water,change tank every couple weeks. Great for auto flowers). Rhizo cloth pots recommended for air pruning.
Soil and coco do retain water (so many people over water) and less resusable than hydrocorn which can be reused forever and is ph neutral. Using soil on a wilma system and ph levels go all over the place as the water recircle-ulates, imagine same for coco which i hazzard a guess nats love.
Hydro just takes the guess work out of watering as you can never over water as there are so many air pockets in the hydrocorn.
Oxypots bit to advanced for me on my first hydro grow.
Dwc in 5 gallon buckets is my preferred grow 3 or 4 of them and just keep it simple each one fills a 3x3 space and its dense jus make sure you use a bright quality light mars hydro tsl 2000 my favorite and treat your buckets with root descaler putting your air pump on a timer with small breaks to help keep the water cold putting a fan on the pump also helps with this I use larger air pumps then "need" so they get kinda warm with out those but it really helps them grow with the extra air so it's worth it pests are almost completely not a problem that's the biggest pro of dwc
Coco is superior by far because of its cheap price! Just add the appropriate compost, perlite/hydrotons and you're off to the races! I also add some old amended soil, dry fertilizer, and humus as an added bonus and watch my plants skyrocket! I topdress with worm castings, bat guano and more dry fertilizer as the plant needs it. Just buy in bulk, as small bags are pricey and letting the materials sit out longer is actually better for microbial health
I grow with DWC-R in 33 litre pots and i regularly get 8 oz a plant off a 5 week veg. I have a bluelab P.H. trunchon and thats waterproof but it wasnt cheap it was £100
I using hydrocorn on a 40litre wilma Both methods make watering easy as pie.heard them autopots good too.but dwc to advanced for me on 1st hydro grow plus space limited in 1.2 x 1.2 x 2 metre tent. Plus it's cold in uk and got to watch noise of the airstones. Wilma is only 75cm x 75cm by 30cm high with 4 x 12litre rhizo pots.
What would happen if you mixed coco blend with soil? Would that decrease bugs and disease still? How would your nutrient supplementation change hypothetically if you did this, or would you thoroughly not recommend it? We do have a lot of power outages up here in Maine. Lots of storms. Indoor growing only for me.

Well the coco blend he's talking about is just coco mixed with perlite. Nothing else, so absolutely no nutrients in the growing medium. You have to add them yourself just like hydroponics, but you have to get nutrients designed for coco. Regular hydro nutrients will work, soil nutrients will not work, it's best to just stick with nutrients designed for coco

My friend in Florida did that. His solar will power an led (300w) and filter fan for an 18 hour light cycle. Not sure but I think he has budget solar panels.
ill just say i spent about 2-3k for my first set up all bought from grow ace, never have i ever had a worse consumer experience then with them... missing packages that i had to bug them to send replacements for and items that genuinely didnt work well if not at all, their hygrometers are SHIT and not precise in the slightest, their lights are so low quality that the plate welding the bulb to the hud is already partially broken from shipping, 6inch inline fan i bought from them broke after i was 2 months into my first grow, dont buy from them

Coco is okay if you mix it 50/50 with perlite and cover the top with a half inch or more of perlite. Coco does attract bugs if not covered.
I use hydroponic solutions in soil all the time.
So do I. I like Advanced Nutrients but it has several parts and can be expensive. I switched to pH Perfect to lessen mixing issues and because it is balanced with a nominal pH range of +/- 6.0

I see you said you need a "base nutrient"....is biothrive grow, or bloom, depending on what stage I am in, considered a base nutrient? are you at all familiar with this line?

Try the new stuff from blue staff. It's on ebay. And it's buffered with calcium and then washed through with magnesium. Top yields and no yellowing of leaves coz it's been proper buffered and not just spread across a car park to hope it sokes the lime out of the concrete. It's a rip off some of the big makes. Try it for yourself it's the best iv used . Don't know if u can get in America yet tho.😀😀
Can I just let my plants sit in the clay pebbles? Without a circulation system. And I have a huge problem with biting midges reproducing in the soul medium. I want to try pebbles instead.
Think you can with kratky method.small plastic net pot sat in hydrocorn in a glass jar but not good for flowering plants. Better to buy a wilma dripper type system 75cm x 75cm with 4 x 12litre rhizo cloth pots and root riot plugs. Nats are pain in butt, only got 1 growing in hydrocorn plus hydrocorn can be re-used for ever.
First timer ,going to purchase a tent but some tents say hydroponic growing and some tents do not say anything like about hydroponic my question is can still use a tent for growing soil plants if it says for hydroponic growing, thank u

If trying hydro for first time try 75cm x 75cm wilma rhizo dripper 4 x 12 litre pot system as can use any medium,soil,rockwool,hydrocorn,coco but recommend hydrocorn as it's ph neutral and re-usable for ever and can never over water and no midges.
Telos 10 pro mesh light 285watt 2.5umol, dim it with phone app or lunatec zeus pro (phonotec in usa) 600watt good light bar light.2.9umol. Depends if your electric cost a lot. Both lights good. telos has optic lenses. Both cover 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m tent.
Lots people recommend deep water culture (dwc) and aeroponics but these are not space or noob friendly.
Finally use root riot plugs and a heated propagator. Pop seeds right in don't use wet paper no need
Hydro may yield better but it's way more needy than soil and a lot more could go wrong like if your water temp gets to high your roots could rot, or you need to clean your water by replacing it once in a while which is a pain plus the pumps suck up more electricity I just prefer soil

I am definitely no expert but the biggest thing I would think is making sure the roots dont clump in a ball, I would think it could recover but would probably be a hard shock on the plant.
If your talking about from a dwc or something then No because the root system hasn't built an immune system to the soil, but you can put soil plants into hydroponics

in a small pot and upsizing a few times is the key. Not really
traumatic if youre careful.
Ive upsized pots and in less than a week it's almost root bound into

@@ThirstysURL Fungus gnats are harmles they only feed on rotting plant roots it's the over watering that attracts them and rots the roots.
@@JonDoe-nh2zm I hydrate the coco with half strength nutrients and squeeze the water out so it's not too wet and fill an 11liter pot and plant 1 seed and put a dome over it and it won't need watering for at least a week maby even 2 saves having to do all that repotting and watering.

I just use a coco/perlite mix pre mixed bags, Canna A&B nutes, Canna Rhizotonic for the roots, Cannazym, Canna PK, Canna Boost accelerater. The rest is genetics.
Do you not know how to mix your own nutes and grow medium? Or are you working for canna? If your not working for them, you are cheap advertising for them. Genetics? I think you need to learn to grow
Lots of misinformation in this video. Like soil being less work because of watering every 2 days. Your not manually watering in hydro, you can often leave to 1 week at a time.
If you're using hydro you should be checking your system way more often than a week at a time.
@@GrowAce Well it depends if you know exactly your medium, you're using the same plants ,you've already grown and the temperature and humidity is controlled well if your container is large enough (or if you're doing dwc), you can maybe leave it for a week.
But ...
The problem is that so many things can happen ex: ph goes up because clay pellets, their is a pest that slows you're plant from taking nutrients so the EC of your water goes up and it damages the plants... So many things can fuck up. If you're a professional grower and you're controlling and preventing anything from happening, than a week shouldn't be so bad. But it's not the reality for every grower.

@@Humbulla93 Yeah lol. It All depends of your own set up. My grandfather had an recirculating hydro system until recently that could be left untouch for like over a month (he had a 1000L tank) with out issues exept for pests. Of course you need space for the container but it's still a good technique. Every hydro set up has it's own flaws and advantages and that's why it's so hard to answer this question lol. It's like saying "can I leave my house unlocked without any surveillance for one week".

If you use soil, I would recommend ProMix. You can skip the first week of feeding due to the included neuts and its actually considered a soil-less mix. I'd feed once a week, with one PHd watering in between. With Coco, I would go 50/50 coco/perlite. With this you really cant overwater, which can be good for beginners, and you can go like every 3rd day during veg and every other day during flowering, as far as a watering schedule. Although, when using Coco/perlite only, as a medium, you need to feed with every watering, so you end up using a lot more neuts than you would with soil/soil-less or hydro. Using Coco/Perlite, I would just flood the pots and drain to waste. Ive since moved on to a top fed DWC system, diy. Great video btw. Well made and very easy to follow.

No Till! Gardening that way you have an entire ecosystem working together to benefit the plant and its roots. You see many characteristics like colors and smells that you get with other growing styles. When i when from potted plants in soil mixes to inground no till i stopped having to buy soil, nutrients and started recycling plant material and watering less.
man if your having bug problems you need to identify the pest and find a biocontrol agent that would be beneficial to your needs like A. Swirskiis, or A Persimilis. you can beat bugs if you implement a good rearing system, do your research on predator mites
I had faith in growace having using a few of the products but after this its clear they are following the lead .
A problem right at the beginning. What is best medium for indoor? Hydro, coco or soil? Actually it is aero/aquaponics, where growing medium is minimal a most of the roots live in air. Saves 80-90% water comprasison to soil.
So do I really want to watch, when you missed the best solution?
Dwc = same result, top of roots suspended in air and have access to water 24/7. I use hydrocorn myself.no ones mentioned aeroponics mind so good one.
