  • Octopot Grow Systems are a hybrid of both soil and hydroponic growing systems (www.octopot.com) Growers using DWC systems or Ebb and Flow Hydroponic Systems will save time, money and effort using Octopot Grow Systems. This video explains how Octopot’s dual root zone design creates an efficient ecosystem that utilizes the processes of natural plant physiology to accelerate plant growth and produce abundant yields with less effort, less maintenance, less risk of plant loss and fewer resources saving growers time and money. Can you reuse the potting mix for the next grow system? I grew from seed and had a few males I culled. How do I store or reuse the grow medium? btw....my plant growth was phenomenal. I've never seen anything like it.

    • @Octopot

      Thanks for the feedback!! Yes you can reuse the soil, simply rinse the medium and add amendments to reboot some of the nutrient levels in the soil.

    So I used 2 octopots using Happy Frog Coco Coir. Great results. So can I reuse the coco coir Or do you recommend I get another growing medium? For reuse of the Coco, I would assume just clean out the dead roots rinse and should be ready to go correct? Also, what is the best cleaning solution to clean the octopot and the sleeve?

    • @Octopot
      @Octopot  4 роки тому +4

      Yes you can reuse the soil medium, it is advised to rinse and add amendments to boost it's nutritional value.
      Octopot and sleeve can both be hand washed with a mild soap.

    Is this possible to transplant to a normal soil pot later or will the complicated root system not handle the transition well?

    • @Octopot
      @Octopot  4 роки тому +4

      The roots literally change their genetic disposition from soil root to a water root as it grows into the water. Transplanting to all soil would probably shock the plant.

    so what holds the sleeve and wick onto the reservoir so it doesn't fall over?

    • @Octopot
      @Octopot  4 роки тому +5

      The wick locks into the bottom of the water reservoir and the sleeve is also held in place by the wick. Making sure your soil is packed tightly enough to hold the fabric upright is important.

    Is the 3-gallon necessary or could you do the entire grow in a 6 gallon pot.

    • @Octopot
      @Octopot  5 років тому +3

      Plants can go from seed or clone to harvest in any Octopot Grow System. Skip the cloner and start un-rooted cuttings in Octopot Grow Systems with Octo-Dome. Its your choice to use the 3 gallon or six gallon depending on the amount of space you have. People who use grow tents sometimes prefer a smaller size.
      You can streamline indoor growing and save electricity by using the 3 Gallon Grow System for veg stage. Octopot 3 Gallon Grow Systems fit closer together under a standard indoor light fixture so no light is wasted, and power costs are reduced. Octopot’s Gro Sleeve® and Hydro Wick® function interchangeably in both the 3 Gallon and the 6 Gallon Octopot Grow Systems. When young plants outgrow the veg stage the Gro Sleeve® with plant can be moved into Octopot’s 6 Gallon Grow System to continue growing.

    So how do you gage your nutrients. Do you add like it’s a hydroponic grow? Or do you add like it’s a soil grow. Most soils use hardly any nutrients because most are available in the medium. But hydro has to use nutrients so what do you do?

    • @Octopot
      @Octopot  4 роки тому +1

      You measure your water before you fill the reservoir, so it is a clean reading. You do not need to measure the soil, and should avoid measuring the water currently in the reservoir since it has been altered in the reservoir by the plants' uptake and the remnants in the reservoir from previous fills.

    What I dont understand is the changing between 3 gall to 6 gall plant and sleeves at change over lighting stage between vegative and flowering..Does this mean transplanting the plant digging it out of the 3gall set and placing it in to a larger 6gall sleeve and reservoir ..Can only envision a messy business and great plant stress then extra shock changing light regime..No where can I find how this procedure is carried out..3gall to 6gall with plant..A messy transplant ??

      www.octopot.com/product/3-gallon-octopot/ Using Octopot’s 3 Gallon Grow System saves time and protects plants by avoiding labor intensive transplanting and eliminating the risk of transplant shock. Octopot’s Gro Sleeve® and Hydro Wick® function interchangeably in both the 3 Gallon and the 6 Gallon Grow Systems. When plants outgrow the veg stage simply remove the Gro Sleeve® with plant and place it in Octopot’s 6 Gallon Grow System to continue growing. Octopot’s 3 Gallon Grow System fits closer together under a standard indoor light fixture so no light is wasted, and power costs are reduced. Octopot’s 3 Gallon Grow System provides water to smaller plants for 10+ days.
      Further, use the Octo-Dome to grow from unrooted plant cutting or unrooted clone to harvest in one Octopot Grow System. No transplanting ever. Check out the link at www.octopot.com/1695-2/

    • @Octopot

    Hello, is Octopot also available in Germany? Thanks a lot in advance.

  • @tinamoney1
    @tinamoney1 4 роки тому +5

    why are liquid fertilizers needed, can't the plant get it's nutrients from the soil? wouldn't that be the point of incorporating soil in a hybrid system, to get the benefits of soil which are largely nutrients

    • @Octopot
      @Octopot  4 роки тому +6

      With Octopot we use liquid or water soluble fertilizers in the water reservoir so that nutrient build up does not occur on the top layer of soil. With our root hybridization the hydro roots have a higher uptake of nutrients than soil roots, so the plant is able to absorb more nutrients as well. Nutrients will migrate from the water into the soil so the soil roots will have ample feed as well.

    • @Octopot
      @Octopot  4 роки тому +1

      No, the moisture is only carried upward as it is needed. The design of the water reservoir and sleeve is what allows this system to be successful. Air flow is part of the design and stagnation/molds do not occur as long as your grow area is sufficiently dehumidified and well circulated.

    • @octopotgrowsystems8874
      @octopotgrowsystems8874 6 років тому +1

      Octopot Grow Systems require a high quality well-aerated growing media that promotes high air capacity. Octopot recommends a 60/40 ratio - specifically 60% high quality soilless mix with 40% perlite. Professional growing mixes such as Sunshine® Mix #4 works well. Octopot Grow Systems may also be used with sustainable Coconut Coir or Coir blends. Warning: Heavy compacted soil will prevent Octopot Grow Systems from functioning
