#Windows #SnapdragonXElite #ARMProcessors - Наука та технологія
Received my Samsung Galaxy Edge 4 14" X1E80100 with an NP940XMA motherboard, about an hour ago. After couple of firmware /BIOS updates and couple of Windows Updates to 24H2 for ARM64), with two 4K monitors, BT Keyboard, I installed Citrix Workspace, MS Office and started working on office stuff. Man, its amazingly FAAAASSSSTTTTT!!!!! I love the experience so far. Installed Chrome / ARM and the score for Speedometer 3 is 26.5. Jetstream 2 score of 287. Connected to 6 shared network drives and the usual. Man I am very happy to have this laptop. It is totally worth it.
Hi do you face any problems saying virus scan failed while downloading apps?
Liar.
How significant is the battery life upgrade?
What are BIOS updates?
@@nyambeFirmware same thing ..
Looking forward to Linux test :)
EDIT: Btw, seems like Just Josh is doing it live right now :)
Looking forward to upgrading to a better superior Operating System, Linux. Would like to know what issues and hopefully none in running Linux either on the System Storage or off a USB external drive.
Right, I don’t care about windows benchmarks they are meaningless
Not everything works on Linux yet. I would wait until kernel 6.11. so maybe 2-3 months for final pieces to set it. Also it is unclear what is the Mesa status (but we should know in few days probably). But Qualcom engineers already merged almost everything, and very few things remain (like external display port support, and some deep sleep / power saving, and possible webcam improvements) in review and works. But most stuff works.
@@ickyteify I'm also holding out until we know issues with battery, wifi, bluetooth etc are resolved with Linux. No way am I going to be running Windows on one of these babies. Linux Master Race
@@LarsRyeJeppesen Totally agree can't run Microsoft abomination called Windows on that hardware!
Thank you for this review
Received my Surface Laptop today, went for the Plus variant, and it is so far amazing. So snappy, great benchmark results, a few percent off the XElite. Have not heard the fans once, and the laptop is running around 40C. Look forward to any future videos you do with these machines.
thanks for the information :) and amazing experience
I love the live format
Thank you for this. I was a little late to the party. However if I was there, I would have asked to see the bios screens on these.
i've waited so long!!!
Thank you!
I believe ARM architecture is the future of computing. Its energy efficiency and performance capabilities make it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications. Again Thank you so much for your videos(i LOVED this format!!!)❤
Looking forward to future insight into most robust build quality laptop in this new category…i.e. for (pre)teen age students. I know this is why certain chrome devices have been sought after as they can take a beating.
Nice vid Alex. It would be great if you could test LLMs on NPU. Qualcomm / Meta is supposed to have a Snapdragon X tuned version on Llama 3.
I'm curious if it's going to be possible to work as a .NET developer with Visual Studio, SQL Management Studio, and all the stuff.
Yes, both of the applications run in Win 11 arm. Not to build .NET Framework applications but .NET Core and .NET 5/6/7/8.
In addition, you can use tools like Vistual studio code and Azure Data Studio for database management.
For MacBook M1/M2/M3 you can use VSCode and Azure Data Studio as well, but to host a Sql Server database you can do it through a Docker Desktop instance.
please do ubuntu compatibility and performance tests
What's your take on the surface laptop's build quality and overall design?
Listening to this while editing a video. I really want to get my hands on one of these to compare against my M1 Max.
The Samsung Galaxy book has a X-Elite 84100 model where the Microsoft surface has X-Elite 80100. I think there's a difference between the E84100 and E80100 models in terms of clock speed and boos frequency.
Speedometer result was 25.4 on my M1 Macbook Pro... still not bad for the older gen which is a couple of years old now
30 on my M1 Max
Have you tried adjusting haptic settings of the trackpad on the Surface? You can configure different clicks in settings.
Check if hard drive encryption and recall are enabled and test it with those disabled
What I'm really interested to see is whether these new chips will run apps that require chipset-specific things like SSE or MMX (or CUDA). A lot of "serious" apps out there and a lot of games use those specific technologies and I can't see how an ARM machine could emulate them.
I want to thank you for taking the time out of your day and doing this comparison video. I like the fact that you keep it honest and real and your approval as well as Andrew Mark’s do determine whether I purchase a windows laptop or stick with my MacBook. Before any Apple iSheep goes to war with my comment I personally don’t like paying for things twice, especially when they’re the same or marginally better. Let’s be honest! It is OK to try new things in life.
Reminds me a of an application that can guess what is being typed by the sound of the keyboard.
'A Swarm of Nerds'! A sequel to 'Lord of the Flies.' Truly terrifying and ultimately self-defeating.
Just tried out the Surface Laptop with X Elite in Currys and it felt super premium, super snappy and fast. Very nice laptop for sure but I’ll stick with my MBP for a couple more years. One thing I noticed is every time I tried to open Word or Excel it just kept crashing, so that was strange
I could hear the coil whine every time
Between 25 and 26 on Speedometer 3.0 is a GREAT score, my desktop Ryzen 7 5800X3D PC gets between 24.5 and 25.
My ryzen 3700x gets 17. Not sure how to feel about it 😅
I am replacing a ASUS Vivobook AMD Ryzen 6800H + RTX NVIDIA 3050 where its speedometer 3 score is about 18. I did not realize that.
My m4 iPad Air got 32.8 in Safari
@@Rahuldantu I dont really think that the score is that important. My 3700x is strong enough for any professional work yet it is beaten in this test by my iPhone 15 pro, which gets 24.5.
@@adambenk0 True that - As long as it can take care of my kind of work loads it's fine with me. It must needs to get it done quick
For an interesting performance test you can install Miniconda in Windows (x64) and WSL Linux (aarch64). Then run the same Python test on both.
OMG! its Surface Laptop!
Geekbench 6 below the base M3 MacBook Pro and M3 MacBook Air in single-core and below the base MacBook Pro M2 in multi-core.
Edge is available for mac , for the most fair comparison you should install Edge on mac and run benchmarks again
On my old M1 MacBook Pro running Microsoft Edge I get a score of 27.4 to 28.1 whereas in Safari I get 32.4 to 33.3. On my M4 iPad Pro I get 35.5 to 35.8. Interesting range of results.
It would be interesting to test SQL server and SQL management studio
When you decided to download chrome, it was already in the 64 bits version, then you switched to 32 bits and in the bottom there was a link to the 64 bits again.
At the 1 hour 44 min mark you say the battery ( and that it’s not ideal)
and it’s estimated at 2 hours left.
It’s plugged in to the monitor I think that will contribute to battery drainage.
16 is the result with speedometer with my 16 giga RAM M1 mac
i think it good start for windows at least they have better battery life now
Do a cpp build bench with ninja gcc clang msbuild.also do a opengl benchmark. And kindly also consider rust build times
How's that screen on the Surface compared to the Macbook, I have the MBP 16-in M1 pro and was thinking of getting this for some edge AI development.
Getting my Lenovo on the 24th of this month
Hey Alex. I have a video idea that I think no one tried until now because...well the chips just came out 😂.
As you usually do, you are one of the UA-camrs that try to run and compare unity/unreal engine performance on different machines.
An idea came up to my mind.
Since we all know that...those new chips aren't quite capable graphics wise, why don't we try using an eGPU?
Would it work?
And is it going to be cost effective or not worth it at all?
Thanks!
egpu isn’t supported right now, unfortunately
I ran Speedometer on my M1 MacBook Pro 13 inch with 8GB RAM and 28.1.
The NumPad is the most useful thing when working with numbers. Removing it is the thing I hate tge most, having design over function. It is a complete hell to work in spreadsheets without it.
Microsoft changed the UI. Used to be very simple, when clicking the battery in the Tray Area you had the power profiles there to just click on them. Quite annoying to have it changed. For some reason they have also hidden the extra power profiles, very awkward.
Until now, this whole Snapdragon X Elite noise seems to be a bit dissapointing. Even the battery seems to have dropped a few percents in 10 minutes.
Right now I am more eager to see the next Intel coming this year, in Q3, it should be quite a bit better than any previous x86. Also much more efficient.
Why don't you get an external wireless numbers pad? That would get you a large, easy-to-tap device. Much better than cramped up keyboard to make smace for a tiny numb pad on the laptop.
@@LarsRyeJeppesen Because it is like a "dongle" you have to carry with you, take care of, connect etc. If it is a wired one it takes a port, if it is bluetooth, it might mess with the wireless headphones etc. I have a huge free space on both sides of the keyboard for some reason (cost cut + "design"), there was plenty of room to integrate it. Sure, a 13'' laptop has a problem, but beyond 15'', you've got plenty of room for that numpad.
Nice trackpad indeed
still having problems with mine
Can you please test Blender 3d on these devices.
I wonder what may be lurking in the BIOS settings as well.,
it was so funny how the chat was frustrated.
Alex, does the Surface laptop 15 inch come with different SKU of elite than 13. 5 inch? Like 80 vs 84 SKU?
So what does high performance do to battery?
Let him cook. He is not giving you an advertisement its a review. Hell yeah.
Different models of the Snapdragon X Elite exist : X1E 78 100, X1E 80 100 and X1E 84 100. The 3 are 12 cores models, but differ in the max clock speed they can reach (in ST, MT@2C, MT@12C).
The 84 is the fastest, and at a moment Qualcomm named it "Pro". Thus the "Pro" you can see in cpuz. Now it is possible that QC changed its mind in the meantime.
Can this copilot pc have real-time guidance conversations with you when you play minecraft or other games?
Hope we will get 64GB model with high res oled of Lenovo Thinkpad. All promising. Not spectacular, but not too bad honestly.
Can you please check Android development? Android Studio Canary with a basic Pixel 3 emulator, just compile the basic template “blank activity” project and run on emulator. See if the emulator lags at all, and see if it’s arm based emulator like they use for MacOs
Samsung does probably use shipping mode.
HP does this all the time, meaning you have to plug in a power adapter to start it, to avoid accidently powering it on during shipping :)
It is also called storage mode, to preserve battery during long storage. Battery is charged around 70% or 80% of its capacity.
Interested to see how VS 2022 runs on ARM
That's the Surface Connect port, which has been around since day one of the Surface device. Supposedly, it should work with Surface Dock 2.
literally touching my first ever surface in this video
18:27 - as a person who has 4 layouts - let them keep this step
I want to see that running Arch btw
Linux Master Race
Can you code on these machine? Like coding Java, running SQL query etc... I like the episode which is about coding on a M chip Mac. It was very helpful.
Pretty sure you do not need to do the powershell commands. Just setting it to "Best Performance" in the UI should do the same. The old school power mode switcher is not needed anymore. You probably want to undo the powershell to make sure you have made it worse.
nice to see qualcomm entering the game but we need an OS for Arm. windows won’t cut it
Wondering how Docker Works right now with these new arm machines? Does it run fast and reliable under WSL2?
so far i can tell you that it runs :)
Hi @AZisk I am about to start a software development career and I have been thinking the best laptop to buy until I came across your UA-cam videos, right now I am thinking of buying MacBook Pro M3 and M3 Max. I have the budget for the laptop but I am still confused and I don’t know the one to get. Or should I go for windows? Please I need your help🙏 🙏 I confused
I hope egpu will come on arm(snapdragon or other chipsets)
The Lenovo is the most interisting one my girlfriend is still working on a 2022 Yoga 7 14IAL7 82QE009YMH, My MacBook Pro16" M2 Max runs circles around it.
I hope the new Lenovo will come a whole lot closer
I am wondering how they fare compare to Win ARM running on Macbook
For the touchpad to work correctly, you need to complete all the updates in the Settings. It's a windows thing.
touchpad worked out of the box just fine. then it suddenly stopped working. now it’s working again after reboot.
@@AZisk Usually, Windows updates get some type of drivers, download them in the background and wait for a restart to apply update for the touchpad. This is the solution that always worked for me when I'm facing issues with gestures or clicks etc.,. So I suggested it.
@@comrade_rahul_1ok gotcha! thanks
@@AZisk Haha. No mentions 😊. Waiting for your tests on Battery Life and Linux ✌🏻.
Can you run Android studio. Maybe run some app.
yes you can
Please have a ML comparison
I saw some one got more numbers by pluging into charge..can you test numbers plug in
I love all your videos and watch almost all of them, can’t join the live due to time zone difference. You seem so authentic 😊, keep up this authenticity. One of the best channels for developers and nerds like me or should I say us?
Some excellent m3 pro performance on windows lovely
Lol
@@user-fs7qt4se7e how? It's beats m3 and on par with more expensive m3 pro
@@harryvlogs7833 lol
@@user-fs7qt4se7e still?
You are splitting your bandwidth having 2 systems downloading updates at the same time :)
that’s not the bottleneck. i have 1G
On my EDGE4 14". multi. processor soores over 14k
I am looking forward to your future test videos 😂. Qualcomm announced that they will release drivers for the linux kernel. PyTorch, LLMs, and compile times for Java, JS are on my list 😅 of demands
Qualcomm is upstreaming Linux stuff for this system since last year. They are doing pretty well and are open about it. There is a presentation last month from Qualcomm Linux team.
@@movax20h If it saves me from the pain of maintaining nvidia drivers :)) I'm all in for future linux arm laptops
You need to Debloat all of those systems as well Alex.
Press Fn + F11 to change the Galaxy Book to high performance mode
I'm looking forward for coding programming related tests
I ran speedometer 3 in my macbook m3 pro 16GB 512GB. It gave 37.0. is it okay or is there a something?
Qualcomm has the opportunity to replace the Chromebook category altogether with a lower tier processor than x plus.
The moment there is a product in the market that isn't too fancy, but gives solid full day battery life and can decently run most applications. It will sell like hot cakes.
It’s amazing how laboured and long the setup of a new Windows device is compared to Mac!
The boot time on Mac is slower. So that doesn't tell you anything. Design choices
@@TrioLOLGamers only with fast boot enabled, otherwise it’s 10x times slower at boot too, even with fast boot windows is only a few second faster…
@@aaronmurgatroyd5810 you've never seen an M1 Max boot up, it is Def slower even with fast boot enabled.
Also you can skip the Setup by creating a disk copy and it will be faster.
But that's not an issue. The issue is thinking that these things are real life changers.
My RPI boots up faster, but I can only use it for few things.
Also in these scenarios what matters is SSD and how the system handles that, not how fast a PC can be.
The only time I “boot” my MacBook Air…is when there’s a software update….other than that I just open it up and it’s already on and ready 😊…even a couple weeks later when I go to use it….it still has a 90% charge….these x elites better do that…
might be a super niche request, but can we emulate macOS with decent performance on this new ARM processor?
I was thinking about that. It would be perfect.
@@martin22336 can you explain why would it be perfect? there's already an arm machine that runs macos perfectly well... it's called a macbook ;)
Test Android Studio if possible
Numpads are life.
Get an external, much much better than a cramped, tiny on a laptop, that also ruins your keyboard. to make space for it.
Did you get the free TV with the Samsung Laptop 😊
i think maybe it’s on the way, just late
Snapdragon X ❤❤
please do Safari Speedometer
If I get impressed I will sell my MacBook tonight
Windows and MacOS Dual Boot possible?
Windows and Ubuntu Linux Dual Boot Possible?
Tri Boot Possible Windows, MacOS and Ubuntu Linux?
can you install Flutter Sdk and test if it's running ? For now, there is no native arm64 version just for the macbook
Prism runs perfectly fine - you can definitely use Flutter SDK without any issues whatsoever
Please compare Snadragon X Elite 84 AI Chipset vs Intel Evo Ultra Core 9 AI Chipset.
we see the scores and the extremely reflective screen...
Video Editing with Davinci Resolve testing
Windows doesn't have a default locale. They have a policy of "English is just another language". They did this to make sure their l10n/i18n wouldn't be half-arsed.
Which doesn't mean there isn't a mechanism for OEMs to set up the Windows installers they ship to have a default locale for their intended market. Or whether all OEMs use the mechanism if it does exist.
Make some gaming test.
The Samsung 14 inch model goes upto 3.8ghz and the 16inch model goes upto 4.2ghz, that's the reason why there's so many different benchmark results.
The 16" only does if you spec it with the X1E-84-100. I spec'd my 16" with the X1E-80-100.
You probably have some crap Microsoft out of the box drivers for the trackpad. Not the ones from the actual manufacturer. Probably not available yet anyway.
I heard that the Samsung supports an S-PEN
need desktop version cpu
man you are in a windows machine working almost at full speed not connected to power!!! that is a first in history
