Love this collection video. I know it would take long to pull them all out but I liked when she pulled it out, showed the back and was very detailed about it cause then I could decide which ones to buy or play. Even if the video went long, or you had to do 2 videos, I would keep watching. But overall this was great. Thanks for sharing it
I'm glad you liked the video and our collection. We may do a collection update where we talk about all the games we've added over the year, and we'll take your advice and pull them out, show the back, and talk about it a little bit.
55:30 From what I remember about Citadels, the group is drafting role cards each round, which allow you to take different actions… I forget what else, but at least you know a little bit more about that game now than you did 1 minute ago!
39:58 There is a hidden role/hidden team type of game which I enjoyed the one time I played it; but in the game - the hidden component is subsidiary to the objective of the game: You are trying to move treasure between the French and the English chests on the ships. But there are different actions you can take, like “Call For A Mutiny”; and you can get someone off your ship - so that there can’t interfere with your gold or add to their team’s. So you have to read which side/team a person is on are on based on his/her actions. But it isn’t JUST between the French and the English. There is also the Dutch - who want the treasures to be split evenly between the French and the English - that’s how they win… If the premise intrigues you, then name of the game is Tortuga 1667. I also enjoy Salem 1692. But it is a card game in which you are trying to determine who is the witch. These are my 2 favorite of 4 games you can pick up by Facade Games, which look like a book - and are named in the format of [Place Year]. The other 2 are: Bristol 1350 (a race game about the Plague) and Deadwood 1876 (an old West themed card game, in which you are trying to break into vaults, and be the last person remaining).
Amazing collection! On the ideas for board games, I have tons of ideas that haven’t been created yet. I’ve always thought a game that has a cabin in the woods feel would be good where the government is in control of everything with the outside being full of force fields and monsters they create. Could have like a basement or cellar area where you find different items for upgrades. Another idea would be a real time cooperative or competitive forging/blacksmith game where you are trying to make your army better. Also, a real time shopkeeper game would be nice too. A game where you are in an arcade, so the whole game is full of mini games and the most points in the end combined wins. A metroidvania board game would be cool where you go through one area and you have to go back to that area after finding new abilities. A real time fighting game where you start out with nothing and you have to get to locations in order to find eccentric objects/weapons. A game where you play as drug dealers, but one person is a traitor/undercover so you have to watch who you sell to. A 1 vs many hidden movement game where one person plays as a fly and the others play as humans trying to chase the fly. A game where you are crafters trying to craft the best weapons and armor for your heroes to defeat monsters and level up. Put on each material card what it can craft. You gather materials, then you combine what you can, and fight any monster that is attracted to your symbol on your hero. You also will only be killing parts of monsters, but once you put all the parts together, you can use them to create a whole monster that will have the ability to defeat any monster out in the field. A battle royal type game where you all pick your own class and have to fight monsters to level up, gather equipment for crafting and elements for enchantments, and then there will be event cards that will send you to the arena to fight. A real time coop or competitive tower defense game would be cool. A game where every time your character gains new equipment, you can snap it on your character. I know that KDM does this, but you have to glue them on, so it’s a hassle. One last one would be a deck building game where there are evil aliens along with villains trying to destroy the planet and good aliens along with heroes trying to save the planet. This is one I have fully fledged out more, so I won’t explain it all, but just some ideas in case you need some influences! Sorry for the rant and so many ideas, but I just wanted to show that there are a lot of ideas that still haven’t been done!
So many awesome ideas! I (Morgan) really like the idea of the hidden movement game where one person's the fly and the others are trying to catch the fly. That's a hilarious theme! I can't believe that's not a game already. Merchants of Magicka is kind of similar to the merchants game you mentioned but it's a roll and write so it's a little bit more simplified. Merchants Cove or Bargain quest are similar to that theme too! I also like the cabin in the woods idea, that's a really interesting concept, would it be more like tower defense? Where you're trying to hold out in the cabin for as long as possible?
10:31 Edge of Darkness is the follow-up to Mystic Vale - by John D Clair. There is also Dead Reckoning in that series; and Legend Academy has a card crafting element to it.
Thank you for keeping me company on this lovely lazy Sunday! 🥰 watched this while I was tidying up and doing laundry! You guys have such a fantastic collection! I am so jealous! Wow! You have so many games that are on my wishlist! For May you guys should challenge yourselves to play a ton of your unplayed games and maybe do a video documenting it? Start off with a list of them you want to get played, play them and then do a quick review of each at the end. Would be a great video! 👏🏻 loved the video!
Thanks so much for watching! That's a really good idea Jenna! We have a lot of games that we haven't tabled yet for one reason or another but you're absolutely right I think making a list of them all and then challenging ourselves to play a game from that list at least once a week would definitely help keep us on track! Sometimes you just need to plan to play specific board games and make it happen instead of hoping that the perfect opportunity will arise. We also have a really bad habit of buying way more games than we can feasibly table... haha but such is the life of a board game collector. 🙃
52:10 I am not a big fan of games with that “can’t talk to each other” mechanism. I play board games for many reasons - which involves meeting people; being social with a group; and getting to know each other; solving a puzzle. That mechanism goes against all of that.
47:33 You see… that’s exactly the type of deckbuilder which I am not into. To me, that - with pure deckbuilding - is boring. The only type of deckbuilders I like are the “deckbuilder(s) with a board”. For me, there has to be another mechanism integrated in with the deckbuilding - such as worker placement; I have to feel that I am actually doing something with my deck which I am building up, besides just - “beat each other up” or “help each other beat the monsters”, etc.
Awesome collection! We have similar taste in games; you have a lot that I either have, or are on my wishlist. I'd be really interested to hear more about Cantaloop once you've played it. Only just heard of that one recently, and I LOVE the idea of a board game that plays like one of those old point and click games.
Thank you! We're so excited to play Cantaloop we remember hearing about it a while ago and we're pleasantly surprised when our FLGS had it in stock over the weekend. We grew up playing point and click adventure games like Carmen Sandiego, Pajama Sam, Myst etc. and love that is an adult version in a board game. For nostalgic reasons alone we're super excited to try this one and will definitely be sharing our thoughts once we play it.
Love your collection. But man, you really need to start playing some of them. So many you haven’t played. I’d start with Citadels. One of my favorites.
We've only played it at 2. With 2 you have to use a 3rd AI player which was alright but the theme of this game really carried it. We want to play with at 4 just any time we get the players for it we end up choosing something that plays a little quicker.
@@MIsForMeeple I love Tidal Blades (at least I loved it the 1 time I played it - back in December). That was a long night, because we played it with 5 players - but we were all learning the game, so what do you expect?! I just found the Kickstarter Edition online and so I couldn’t resist, I had to order it (the last time, I was at a friend of a [former] friend’s house - and that is where we played it).
Oh thanks! I got it from Redbubble, they have all kinds of meeple/board game clothes. www.redbubble.com/i/hoodie/Meeple-Retro-Vintage-Boardgame-Lover-by-EMDdesign/38763915.G3IS7
If you guys like Clank! then we highly recommend you guys check out Clank! Legacy! We are playing it now and it’s by far our favorite version of Clank!
We LOVE Clank and we are definitely interested in the legacy version! We're are a little intimidated though because we've never played a legacy game before and we know that it involves destroying cards haha. Does Clank Legacy take a long time to play comparable to a campaign style game? Is it repayable once you complete the story or is it more of a one and done type of game?
It’s 10ish games long if I remember correctly, and you will have your own unique board you can keep playing on once you finish the legacy campaign. If you like Clank, getting Legacy is a no-brainer IMO.
@@MIsForMeeple It’s 10 games so it’ll take about 1-2 weeks to play through. It does ask you to destroy cards which you don’t have to but it is fun lol. There are stickers you put on the board and cards you write on so you won’t be able to play the story again necessarily but you can still use the board and cards to play clank. I think they even make expansion packs with new characters to replay with.
I don't know why but I'm scared to tear up a card. I feel like the board game gods would be mad at me. Still adding it to the wish list from your recommendation.
11:55 I really dislike Betrayal at House on the Hill. It was the game that made me realize that I do not like games which are so asymmetric that you are playing completely different games. My first game, I was the haunted - and I obviously had no idea what I was supposed to do - so it was difficult reading through the scenario. And then when I came back and my side was using a completely different system from the other side - and it was very chaotic that I had no idea what was going on during the game - until after the game was over. Those are some of the reasons I did not enjoy it - and also due to the fact that there is so much randomness in the game. For that reason, I do not think I would enjoy Root or Merchants’ Cove, either - again, everyone is playing a completely different game in Root or Merchants’ Cove… I am perfectly fine with games which have factions with asymmetric abilities - such as Terra Mystica, as long as the actual game you are playing is the same game. For example, I would not like it if one player is playing a roll ‘n write game while another is playing a deckbuilding game while another is playing a worker placement type of game, etc.
How bout a game idea of WW2 themed, but your part of the industrial supply chain trying to produce items that will help keep the millitaries and allied countries supplied. As someone who works in the bearing industry the history and challenge seems like it could work and be very thematic.
