A Welsh Adventure - Part One. Land Rover Defender Car Camping. Planning a Weekend in the Hills.

- In this video, I am heading up to North Wales for a weekend of adventure in the mountains. Night one is spent in my old Land Rover Defender camper conversion - an evening amongst friends while we make a plan for the next couple of days.
This trip was not the trip that was originally planned - heavy rain had caused the rivers in the area to flood, and so, we sadly had to cancel the arranged canoe trip - one for another day. But all clouds have a silver lining, as they say - an opportunity for adventure in the mountains presented itself, so to the mountains I head in part 2.
I hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching.

UA-cam chanels like this is the reason why I never watch normal TV any more . Love your videos Simon keep them coming. 👍🏻
Right? Why deal with all of the fake drama and nonsense when you can see beautiful things and hang out virtually with nice people.
Thank you Graham!
Agree. I love the raw real life footages💜 way more fun
Yep, 👍 Simon, Andy from Kent S, Jay legere, English woodsman, Greencraft, Giles Binyon. Great for relaxing before hitting the fart sack and zzzzzz. . .ing all night dreaming of adventures 👍😉🏞🏕🪵
Simon’s video drops, and, all of a sudden, the day gets brighter!
The work you put into setting up shots and editing doesn't go unnoticed. Top quality content.
Thanks Nick! 👍
Definately
a man who's not afraid to pull over n take a breather !!!!!!! a lesson to many who think " pushing " is the "manly" thing.
I use your videos to wind down before sleep. I lie there in bed feeling cosy, watching you roughing it! Then you cook delicious food and make me hungry, so I have to get up for a scooby-snack. Simon you are bad for my diet 😂😂😂
I made the mistake of watching all the horrible news going on late tonight. It's now 2:00 a.m. and I'm watching Simon's video to get my head right again before going to sleep. As always, thank you Simon for providing joy in this crazy world.
Admittedly, I skip some of your videos mostly due to time. But if it involves the Defender, I make time to watch them.
I just love the old Defenders. When I was stationed in Germany, we trained with several UK units over the years and the second event we actually swapped vehicles with a Scottish unit. And that's how my love affair with that vehicle started.
Living across the pond, they're few and far between. But when I do see one they want quite literally the Kings ransom to buy it. So I live vicariously through owners.
All that said, I love all your videos Simon. But the Defender videos reign supreme.
I do this but in Australia, I found Simons channel not so long ago and is my go to for relaxation and a laugh!
Simon's videos are a perfect mood brightener for the middle of the week.
Thank you!
Alright Simon I love your videos I’m doing up my mod Land Rover 110 in the intrim I’ve bought a Dutch army ridge tent not tent camped for years your videos have inspired me to have. A go at camping again Thank you PLEASE keep them up I appreciate time can be a issue I’m 64years old & keep fit your channel has helped me get my mojo back thank you again you are a decent man or should I say good Fella best wishes Eddie Chatterton Liverpool just a surggestion for content in the future there is old slate quarry in lamberris in north wales by snowdonia there is a big natural lake & old workings of the quarry there is videos about it on new tube have alook when ya get time god bless Eddie Chatterton Liverpool 👍👍👍 15:55
Many years ago my partner and I spent a lot of time in North Wales living out of the back of an old series 3 109 - rusty, wobbly door tops, heater less useful than being breathed on by the dogs, windscreen wipers that failed under the weight of half a dozen snow flakes but…but…such a lovely old noisy, smelly beast. It had a full length Brownchurch where the bender poles and tarps lived until needed. Spare tyre on the bonnet too ( a wise old farmer told me to never trust the bonnet prop with a tyre on - he said they can collapse and break your neck! I didn’t take much advice back then but that piece of advice I did. Great to see your modifications and whatnot on the defender. The video brought back good memories ( even the hours spent under it skinning my knuckles as spanners slipped off nuts and bolts and making my peace with being permanently covered in oil).
Stop off for "sausages inna bun". CMOT Dibbler would be proud (a Terry Pratchet character).
A lot of people turn their noses up at those All Day Breakfast cans. Personally I think they are very tasty, and very convenient if you are stuck for time or cooking facilities.
I'm in the US and I could see myself driving there, I would go to shift gears and open the door and fall out. lol
I am so very glad you stayed safe during the chaos! Very good video as always Simon. Thanks.
Thank you , Simon .
🐺 Loupis Canis .
You truly are an inspiration to all who travel outdoors ❤❤
Awesome. A Simon video dropping on my birthday. Treat
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!!
That was really good.Loved the Land Rover as well.
Mate you're the best for putting the title of the music at the end in the description, thanks a mill.
River wasn't to be this time, looked vicious!! Wow second part looks WINDYYYYY - looking forward to watching it dude!
love that pub, and the site at Carrog. Was there with my wife in a 2 man tent in the field on the opposite side of the site many tears ago in a small 2 man tent amongst a sea of posh people in trailer tents and tube tents big enough to home an airship. The weather report did not look good so we made sure to peg everything down really well and retired to the pub for a "few", then had a hot drink back at the tent before turning in. The following morning there was a sea of destruction all around us - trashed trailer tents and all kinds of fabric strewn in the hedges and trees - there had been a wicked storm that had blown down the U-shaped valley, but we slept through it 🙂
Powerful, flood waters.
Seems strange to see roadside garbage bins that aren't bear proof LOL
Love the hammock idea in the defender! Legend. ✌️⛺️
Dang that river was bad, good call on not going that thing would have washed you guys away! Can’t wait for part two!
😳🫣 part 2 looks like my idea of hell 😂 🥶🥶🥶 can’t wait to watch!!
Not easy to get the camera set up to show arrivals etc when the weather is miserable. You a great job.
Wow! The weather gods seem ticked off!
You're driving on the wrong side of the road. Hahaha. Great video as always. That truck is awesome 👌
Whenever I’m doing a long journey in the rover ( or any other car or bike I’ve owned ) I’ll always turn off the main road and nip down a tiny single track round and find a farm gateway or other quiet spot away from the traffic and have a brew or break and look at the map in peace. Also handy for just having a piss without upsetting the horses.
Though needs must sometimes!
Just the video I needed - and good to see the Landy working again!
Superb stuff simon, Great to see the Defender purring along into the wilds of north Wales, and to be able to pull over and have a cuppa and a banger sarnie along the way. Beats Service stations all day long. Love the episode and looking forward to the next one 👍🏻
Such a pleasure to watch xx
that's quite the cliff hanger there with the next episode's preview...
Bloody hell, that looked grim up on top.
I guess it was _two_ bad night's sleep.
I slept well on night 3 😂😂
I adore this Land Rover, I simply do Simon!!
Great video Simon. Always a great watch in the warm comfort of home. Love the Land Rover set up, rugged go anywhere feel.
Love it. Thanks, Simon. 🙂👍🏕️🛶
Looks like you stopped at Nescliffe By-Pass layby on the A5 near my neck of the woods
Thanks for sharing. Getting the popcorn for part 2.
I have to see the North of Wales. Magical. Glad you waited for lower water
Great set up in the Landy. Part 2 oooh boy 😮
You have to experience the rough to fully appreciate the smooth that’s what gets me through conditions like those anyway, when you get home I bet you you have a very satisfying sigh. This is partly why I do these kinda things, fantastic and inspiring and you got me on the edge of my seat for part 2! 👍👍 BatW
Me too mate - love the adventure - even the very challenging ones, but also love the reflection afterwards sitting next to the fire at home 😂
Two weeks ago just did a sleepover w my tent while kayaking ard the island. I film short bits for fun. Enjoy the winter sky so far. Really enjoy this videos
Can't wait for part 2 Simon...
Looks like you really had some weather the few days you were there!
It was a bit blowy! 😂👍
@@simonablokeinthewoods 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
I noticed!
Great video as always
Hi Simon, your videos are beautiful! The ammock is a good idea, but I think you should create a bed with the seats, May be better for your sleep!! We wait the second part!!!
Loved it, but not the wind at the end 😂😂xx
Why, that looks like perfect weather to me...and the river seems fine. You didn't want to paddle that?
okay, I kid. That wind and snow at the end looked wicked.
😂😂👍
Great video yet again Simon, nice to see the A11 roadworks at the Spooner Row junction making an appearance 🤣
Absolutely beautiful country.
What a cliff hanger!
Hi Simon . Just came across your channel and I love it
North Wales, also known as an extension of my City of Liverpool 😉😉😉 and those sausages you had in the lay-by still had a pulse 😉
I lived in a van and busked around UK and Europe for 7 years, best days of my life
Ooof, that looked like a really cold place to camp, in a tent not too keen on cooperating🥶🥶
It certainly was! 🥶🥶
Absolutely amazing, been watching your videos since 2019. Been in love with your camping videos ever since. Love your land rover too mate.
Nice cup!
One of the best moment (if not the best) in a day ... the coffee in the morning (specially if cold, rainy, foggy, ...) whatever you do after in the day :)
Hi Simon, absolutely love your videos! Keep up the good work ! If I could offer some advice speaking from experience, I'd replace your green fuel line on your diesel heater for a better quality more ridged type as mine failed recently and flooded my van with diesel it wasn't a nice experience! Lol
Back to hot dogging in a layby on the A5, windows on the Defender steamier than the ones Tina Turner sang about! 😂 I’m looking forward to Part 2, the clip of the wind battering the tent takes me back…
😂😂😂
Yes, a bit blowy up there!!
Great video Simon. Look forward to the next one. Luke
Great video as always Simon, the next episode looks rather challenging Pal ! 😁

Just noticed the canoe paddle handle as a gear knob, nice one, right to the rest of the video :)
Butterflying sausages . What a great idea . 💡 !! Cuts cooking time .

Good on ya for battling the weather and still having a crack. Great attitude mate 👍
Love it mate, thank you
Glad you camped on the lee side by the looks of that preview 😮
I dread to think what conditions were like on the other side or on top! 😳
It was awesome seeing your adventure here as I'm from north Wales and love camping (hammocking is my favourite), can't wait to see where you end up next!
Oh wow, that trailer for part two looks rough!😊
Great video. Thank you very much. Can't wait till the 2nd video
Fabulous Camping Adventure Simon !!
Love the canoe paddle gear knob on the land rover! atb
Even your trip there is interesting
Can't believe I missed you Simon, I live a minute down the road from the camp site. My friends own the camp site, I'll have to have words with them 😄. Glad you experienced the Grouse, it's a nice little pub. The river can get higher than that, I've known it flood the road up to the bridge. Glad you are exploring North Wales, I feel very lucky to have all of this on my door step and it is great to see it in your videos. Next time your down I'll buy you a pint to say thanks for entertaining me over the years. Looking forward to seeing where you got to in part 2. All the best. Adam
Ah! Next time Adam! (Which might actually be in March - we’re rescheduling the trip!)
Lovely campsite and the owners are absolute stars! They let me store my canoe in their barn while I went up into the hills - please thank them again for me 😁🙏🏻🍻
@@simonablokeinthewoods
give me a shout when you do, a pint is a waiting for ya. I'll see Bethan tomorrow so will thank them for you. They are great friends. They let me and my son do a bit of wild camping on some of there land away from the farm.. off grid but close enough to walk home if needed. Looking forward to part 2. 🍻
@@AdamSmith-pk9xf can I come too please ha xxx
The teaser for the next part looks seriously ominous!
Thats some scary teaser at the end. Now im really eager to see part 2, hope it all ended well.
Great video once again sir. Your Landover is brilliant, an outdoors man's dream. The rest of your adventure looks very intense. Have fun.
Those kind of restless sleeps in good surroundings, with harsh weather and winds expected on the hills. Looks like your Landrover sleep predicted the next night? :)
Liking the soundtrack at the end!
you and Kent should do a combined outing I think it would be fantastic...............................m
The Rover lives ¡!!!!!!!!!
Saw part 2 before p1 … p2 is cool …thanks.
Simon, there's a site in North Wales that may be of interest to you in passing. The view up there is to die for. Bwlchgwyn Farm
Great part 1 Simon. ‘ it took 4 pints to work it out’. Great line! I’m going to use that in future. ‘ this is most definitely a 4 pint decision’ lol. Part 2 looks a bit chilli. Nice for you to give the Broadland a holiday too. 😂Thank you Simon. Atb Paul.
😂😂😂 Cheers Paul!
Really looking forward to part two! I've only passed through north Wales but it looks beautiful and it looks like you had some type two fun with the weather there. 🤣👍
