- In this video, I spend the night stealth car camping in my Land Rover whilst travelling across the country to meet up with Kent Survival. Once dark, I set up my home for the night, drawing the curtains and making myself comfortable before tucking into some dinner and enjoying the evening. A comfortable nights sleep and I’m refreshed and ready to continue with my journey.
I converted my Land Rover into an off-road, off-grid overlanding camper. It has a basic, but functional kitchen for cooking, a comfortable hammock bed, swivel seating, heating and lighting - everything I need to spend the night comfortably.

Very nice simple set up there Simon. My grandparents converted an H plate 1970 long wheel base 2 birth Landy with a capstan winch in which they toured around in. Shipped it to South Africa and America, drove to Morocco and North Capp. Loved it as a kid, was fascinated by the levers and loved the blue diesel light! They were living the van life in the 70’s😂

I can just see you inadvertently having “stealth camped” in the local dogging hotspot and it turning into an amateur filmmakers symposium… the curtains on the Defender must have done some twitching!!! 😂 Ecstatic screams of “Oh Boi” filled the night sky as Simon kindly whipped out the hot chocolate… 🤣🤣🤣
I can’t speak for Oh Boy’s properties as an aphrodisiac but I’m told the best thing to do is just dim the lights, pour hot chocolate and ahem give it to her. She should be singing “I believe in miracles” in no time at all… 😂

This is one of my favorite Simon videos. Have watched it several times over. Love to see what's in the ration packs. Snug as a bug in a rug in the Landy by the mill pond.
As far as "road noise", when you're sleeping, I've used ear plugs for over 35 years. They really do the trick, and cut you off from the outside world.

I love this stealthy unit you have built. It's perfect for just what you're doing. Travel light, travel fast. I wish you could bring it to north America. This would do well in the states and Canada.

Ugh! I hate alarm clocks. It's a shame car camping is illegal in most places. I think everyone should car camp at least once. Makes you appreciate ur home.

Fill a long sock with rice or catlitter and tie it off. Keep in your car to absorb moisture. It works.

I've loved this set up from when you first posted your "Off Grid Adventure Wagon" video a year ago. And you've only made it better. The crowning glory however is the canoe paddle shifter knob! Love it! I wish they sold these old Defenders where I live in Canada. You can order them in from out of country by some specialist dealers but they cost a small fortune. I love the hammock setup like that, I am going to look in to doing the same in the back of my transit custom. Got a rocknroll bed in already, but would be great to have this extra option in as well

Should have done a bit of fishing while you were there. Standing on the river bank with a fishing rod would have been a suggestive explanation why the RR was by the river side. Bonus points for catching your dinner!

The Simple Things in Life Are the Best! A vehicle that one can work on and maintain. A dinner from a bag. Dry warm shelter for the night. A cup of not chocolate( like mine thick also) before bed. A cup of Java in the early Am. The Scenery! Fantastic. Thank You Simon Again!
I live in Manitoba, where we get around a month of -35°C weather, and -20 the rest of winter. If your car leaves the road, it can get buried in a ditch or behind snowbanks and be invisible to passing traffic. Happened to a woman here who broke both arms in the crash and lost both feet to frostbite. So, it’s good to have a good winter sleeping bag, extra mitts and toque and a big candle in a can. Mohair socks are 2 times warmer than wool (from my own experience working outdoors), and natural fur is best for insulation (beaver, muskrat, rabbit, deerskin). For rations, I’ve heard of a guy who keeps a can of dog food in his truck. He’ll only eat it if he’s truly hungry.
Ah...you have a snorkel on your Land Rover....so you can visit Rufford Mill Ford, North Nottinghamshire....there is a foot of water on their bridge all the time and people try to fly thru it...jeeps and Land Rovers w/snorkels go flying thru the water, while others get hydrolocked... sucking water into their engines and have to be towed away..a guy has a u tube channel showing this...Happy Camping...Connecticut, USA here....😎😎

@@simonablokeinthewoods I think reading the comment's below is proof of Land Rover's adaptability and ease at being converted by enthusiasts. If you were lucky enough to own one of the few remaining carawagons made by Land Rover or afford to run a FC 110 and convert that, an ex ambulance body type would be great the amount of room would be palatial.
When I saw the canal boats, I thought you'd parked by a canal ( I live on a canalboat, so instantly interested.) But the river is so gorgeous .What a beautiful spot for a stealth camp. I bet it makes such a difference to your comfort having a sink. It's looking really cozy the Landrover with everything you need close to hand.

I used to do that a very long time ago now, only with a Series III, the last proper Land Rover :) Actually today I bought a plywood board to make my jeep a bit more usable for the odd night away as really it is too small for any kind of a proper conversion. In these latter days I think such features as a "kitchen" are overkill if you are used to roughing it in the woods with a trangia, or whatever.
Awesome converted Rover, love it, looked so snug, adding the sink well worth it. Great to hear you're having a meet with Andy, look forward to both versions. Probably not my favourite ration pack to be honest but I'm sure it was nice. That hammock fits perfect, nice one thanks.
