Dawg I got braids in for the first time in my life and had very little knowledge on how to maintain them. I’m mad excited to try this, this helps a lot!
I’m mixed, I got tight nice curly hair. but grew up with my mom who’s white.. after my dad passed when i was a kid.. we move to a rural area where my grandparents lived, where it wasn’t alot of black kids in my school, wasn’t until i got to college i got my haircut by a black barber who actually knew how to cut my hair. few years after that i braided my hair for the first time. so this process and learning how to take care of my hair is all new to me. The girls who braid my hair assume i kno what i’m suppose to do so i never get any insight on what i’m doing wrong when i go get em rebraided after i can’t stand the itch and dandruff anymore after a couple weeks…. i appreciate this video my brother 💯
Last step: blow drying ur hair with ur durag on. The heat will make ur hair lay down neat and its faster than waiting for it to air dry. Blow drying also prevents hair mildew which can occur if parts of ur hair is constantly wet (i.e. inside the actual braid)
Don’t recommend using head and shoulders at all, if you’re black, which I am. It has a lot of SLS( sodium lauryl sulphate), which isn’t good for hair like ours. Definitely recommend Black Jamaican Castor Oil.
I like seeing the different ways guys take care of there hair it’s impressive. Each person has their own way and figuring out ways best for them. It inspires me
So for y’all worried about frizz after washing I have two methods first you can put foam or mousse on your braids then wrap with a durag and blow dry orrrr spray got2be then wrap with a durag then blow dry

It's always gonna itch but try slapping / tapping the itch instead of scratching it, or you can use tea tree oil which u can find at the store for pretty cheap

Yessir I needed this I’m Mexican and for the first time in 30+ years I decided to braid my hair and was trying to find out if after a week I can actually wash my braids to keep them fresh. I’m on my 6th day and man it itches bad but I don’t want to remove them they look too nice.
Enrique Anguiano I’m Mexican too and by the 5-7 day my head be itching. I sleep with a du rag on my head and I scratch my head but only where it’s parted at and I don’t scratch hard just enough to get the urge to scratch. I’m gonna try a waterless shampoo or a conditioner to clean my head. Then pat dry with a towel and put do rag and blow dry my hair so my head won’t stink. A few people said that if you don’t dry it completely it my smell like sweat.
I would wash my braids when they start to itch or when I see some dry skin, and they last a long time it just depends on if you care if they look a little rough .
Anyone got any tips for other hairstyle, such as two strand twist, twist, and any type of plot etc. Cuz when I have those hairstyle I don’t wanna wash my hair cuz my hairstyle will be messy after I’m finished washing/scrubbing my hair if u understand.
A durag , sleep with it on , chill in the house with it on , whenever you aren’t trying to impress wear that durag . You can also apply mouse before the durag to lay your hair
Wow, I was just thinking about this the other day about. Is it possible to wash your braids instead of having to wait until the next braid job 🤔 Thank you so much 👏👍 Awesome. !
Hey I know I’m late but not head and shoulders. It will stop the itching temporarily but will dry your scalp out and you’ll have the same issue with or without braids. Dilute apple cider vinegar with water and pour it on in the shower, leave in for a few minutes then dilute regular shampoo and do the same, then the same with conditioner but use very little conditioner. After you’re dry use Jamaican black caster oil on your scalp from a bottle with a nozzle. Do this each time you have braids and you’re good! .. from a black woman who rocks braids and has healthy hair.😌
