I have a theory that people are often drawn to the boho style because it represents a simpler, more innocent lifestyle compred to the hurried, stressed-out lives they often lead. We are told to dress for our real lives, but I think people dream through their closets a little too.
And I'm right ahead of you at 64. I've always been a boho gal, leftover from my teens & early 20s in the 1970s, but I love the classic look. It just doesn't come as naturally. This is a great video!

These are like my two favorite styles 😭 this is so perfect for me, I literally have my closet sectioned into boho, chic, & then things that go with both
@@AlyssaBeltempo thank you! It makes it easier to pick out outfits, & I see combinations I can make with my outfits that I didn't before. this was SO useful, but aren't all of your videos?! I didn't know but I apparently have some boho tendencies myself (I tie my shirts a lot, and I use scarves!) I watched your latest video about your career trajectory and I am so glad you are teaching all of us how to shop our closet instead of working in finance :) really, thank you!
I would say classic Italian with vintage 70s vibes. So I loved a lot of this! The wrap dress with boots, the jeans, tee and trench coat, the high waisted pants and tied shirt.
I lean to classic, minimalist styling but loved all the outfits you put together. I especially love how you took the same base pieces and created different style vibes, all by shopping your closet. So glad you left finance as I look forward to all your videos and shop your closet looks.

So your tips and breakdowns of the boho look are *absolutely* transformative for me!!!!!! Classic with a bohemian twist!!
I'm from the hippie era, so Boho really speaks to me. However, I do love classic style and sport that look when it suits me. It was instructive to have you point out how to do either with the same basics. Thanks! I'm going to go play with my clothes!
This video is so perfect! I actually call my style classic boho chic. I would love to dress in a boho chic style more often, but it is a bit too dramatic as a mom of 3 teenage boys! So I end up dressing more classic preppy/sporty! I am not a minimalist, but I have a curated conscious classic closet that is about 90% second hand/thrifted, so I love your thinking mind!
I'm somewhere in between the two. I love colors and patterns and textures, but I wear minimal layers and accessories because otherwise I look like a cat who runs around covered in random clothes after taking a nap in the laundry basket.
Thanks for another fun video. I'm something in between a boho and classic style type, and trying to figure out what to call that. I lean more towards classic, simple but not structured shapes, while I love to make a statement with colour, prints and accessories. The pure boho stereotype feels too volumous and draggy for me, and reminds me of the smell of patchouli which I am allergic to! Pure classic makes me feel like my body doesn't fit the neat and tidy style aesthetic. It seems to me most youtube style influencers are classic types, which makes sense because their advice can at least partly apply to many people. However I find it particularly helpful and inspiring when you show the contrast between different style types.
I love all styles and enjoy dabbling in them all! This video was so much fun! With adult children college age: myself, my wallet, and my husband 😂 all thank you for your slow fashion videos! It’s so much fun to shop your closet when you feel more confident about how to style clothes and just have fun playing around with what you have! Thanks for giving us the tools and being a role model on how to have fun with what you have and to stop obsessing about what you don’t! A great tip that applies to anything in life!
FINALLY!!!! A boho theme! Yeay! I’m definitely a sleek boho style. The prints and overly 70s kitsch aren’t my thing, but the textures, proportions, flowyness and “boho feel” are definitely me. Thank you!
So great to see how you take the same pieces and are able to style them to look so different! Such fun, and some great ideas I’ll want to try myself! Thank you.
Alyssa, you have helped me to see the light in my closet. I'm 60% boho and 40% classic. Let me tell you though this was a great guide on how to properly shop your pieces. That is definitely the key. Loved every look and ready to put them all in play. New subscriber and can't wait for more uploads.
Classic feminine would best define my personal style, I go for more tailoring on the bottom and keep the volume down as I am an hourglass shaped girl, I can dip my toe into bohemian in strictly accessories, jewelry and scarf additions.

Im a hybrid of the two. I lean towards boho because to me boho style shows more personality and fun. Other times I lean toward classic looks like the styling with the dress. But most of the time I have elements of both in my everyday looks. Great video
Oh my! I used to be green with envy because of your pleated skirt. Now I love your new skirt! It suits you so well. Thank you for your videos. They are simple perfect.
I'm so glad you made this video and made the bohemian style your own, Alyssa! I think you did well, and your description of the boho style being free-form and individualistic with lots of layering and accessorizing is very much on point. 😄❤
This video was so fun! Myself, I’ve always been more tailored and classic. Even as a child, mom and I would go shopping and all the dresses were so frou-frou. We’d end up at the fabric store and she’d make me a more tailored dress. I’m now 70 and make most of my clothes. Recently I took a class learning to use all the decorative stitches on my sewing machine.........so I’ve done some embellishments on my tops.....whoa I’ve gone boho!
i cant believe how versatile your clothes are! i know styling and accessorizing are huge but seeing the contrasts side by side really sharpens the focus. wow!! great job!!! i used to be a bit more free spirited in my style but as i get a bit older... im 50 now... i definitely veer towards a much more classic approach although i do still appreciate a boho vibe on occasion! how can i not?? the colors, fringe, etc its all so fun and punchy!!!! i so look forward to your videos!!
Boho usually has alot of pattern and color. I live in southwest US and see it alot. Most fashion bloggers don't seem to live in desert or warmer climates. I love classic styles but wouldn't wear much black when it is over 100 degrees. Boho just feels better on those days. Like your channel though.
Agreed! I always think I *must* have a fabulous blazer for a wardrobe basic, but summers in Texas really don’t offer much opportunity for that kind of layering.
I'm definitely classic, but realize now I like some boho elements especially in the summer. I was a child of the 60's and 70's and wore embroidered shirts, patterned inserts in my jeans and head scarves! It's hard to shake that vibe because it's so much fun. This was such a well thought out video and so entertaining! Thanks for yet another great video, Alyssa.
I have dabbled in both but I keep coming back to the classic chic as I feel more confident and put together in it. Maybe I am doing the boho-chic wrong, but the crisp look of the classic styles just pulls me in. That's why am here to learn these elements and themes that you explain and deconstruct when you look at a style
I’m definitely a classic style, but appreciate the boho look on others, and may incorporate some of your styling hacks, as I have many similar basics to yours!
Love this! While I am mostly a classic dresser, with a little dramatic or edgy thrown in, in summer I go total luxe boho. Think St. Barth or St-Tropez, moving from a mainly black Canadian winter to a mostly white palette and luxe hippy jewellery. A girl needs some variety!
Wow, this was an excellent video! Your ability to explain *why/how* a look is boho really helped me understand what I can do to achieve that look. I have long been impressed by your approach to style. The way you deconstruct to describe has upped my fashion game substantially! Thank you...
I love the boho chic. It suites you awesome Alyssa, tumbs up on that style. As well that the dress, looks very chic on you.And those colors suites well on you. Thumbs up for you girl CIAO
Love it! I admire people who can pull off boho successfully. It can be so artsy and interesting to look at. However I am an overweight hourglass with very large bust, and I want to style myself to draw attention to my face, neck, shoulders and collarbone, as well as detract from the disproportionate sized bust. That goal challenges me to be a minimalist classic dresser but allows me to focus on fun makeup, jewelry and colorful tops. It has been a long journey to understanding how to dress myself with style, and I am still learning.
Hi Alyssa! You obviously have allot of fun with your videos!! I definitely prefer the classic chic!! I've got to add though that you look great in it all!! Happy Sunday!!
Before the video I would have said I was classic - no question. But I was so attracted to so many of the boho styles...now I am wondering. I will have to shop my closet! Great video!
Same thoughts here. I’m 53 and classic overall. But Summer I add printed tunics (colorful strips, calm tye-dyed or flower printed big or small) to my classic pants or capris. I also add multiple bracelets and a less structured bag to give a more relaxed and boho vibe to my look. I fell fresh! You should try!
My late 50s was when I seriously reconsidered my style, as I realized that ‘feminine/classic’ suddenly felt aging and, more importantly, somehow inauthentic (for me). I wanted my style to both reflect the strength and confidence that had come with life experience *and* recapture a bit of the “rocker chick” of my youth. Voilà! . . . “Edgy classic”! Blazers, simple skirts & dresses, classic jeans, wide-but not too wide-slacks, mostly solid neutral colors, etc., but always with 1 or 2 edgier pieces added. Not-over-the-top-combat boots, converse-style sneakers, black leather moto jacket, black skinny jeans, etc. My hair, silver and cut in a sleek angular style, enhances the look. *Why not? Life is short.* I need please no one but myself. Now getting dressed is fun again! 👍 Bottom line: don’t let what others might think stop you from following your “heart.” You’re never “too old” to wear what makes you happy. ❤️
Classic is a good ‘control group’ in any comparison of outfits. I’d love to see that video as well! My own signature style might best be described as “edgy classic”: classic, tailored outfit, with 1 or 2 ‘edgy’ elements thrown in to keep things dynamic and add personality.
I love this! I live in a rural mountain town and boho is popular and as an Aries with a Pisces moon, it suits me. However I was born to midwestern Lutherans and I have a fine appreciation for classic lines and minimal fling and bling. Great contrasts and ideas.
So much fun to see , I dress accordingly to the place I’m going . Times are different now tho . If I’m going to a meeting I wear classic if I’m going to a outdoor event or garden setting then bohemian if it’s a children’s event more bohemian if it’s a festival bohemian doctors appointment classic , also I dress differently by season
I love your video’s, I feel like I have a very similar body shape to yours and I love seeing how well you can wear just about anything. I’ve always been afraid to try wearing relaxed fit anything for fear of disappearing in them but you make it look so good. I’m inspired!
Great video and breakdown of both styles. Also, thank you for giving us enough time to read and study the looks a bit. I tend toward classic with an edge in the winter, and classic with a touch of boho in the summer months. 😍✨
What a fun video! I saw the challenge and thought to myself, Alyssa can’t do boho with her wardrobe. But you did It. Amazing! Thanks for proving me wrong! Off to shop my closet ......
Very useful presentation! I love boho style but because it is a little to much for me I like mixing pieces of boho stye into a more classic outfit! Excelent work! Thank you!
Boho 😍 The outfit with the Head Scarf, Bag & the Jeans!! & Platform shoes!! I had this outfit in the 70s😃! Loved it then & I Love it now! 💕 Thanks for all your inspiration
Ho davvero apprezzato come partendo dalla stessa base tu sia riuscita a creare diversi stili: mi piacerebbe vedere una seconda parte a questo video! Grande creatività. Ciao :)
Great looks, Alyssa! I am more of the classic style but there are certainly elements of the boho vibe that I incorporate into my wardrobe. I love the use of the scarf and also some of the fun textures in the boho looks. I guess it depends on my mood. Looking forward to the event next week!
Such a wonderful tutorial on two kinds of style! I think the "boho" is for when you are more casual and out for some fun, while the "classic chic" is a little more serious...morning meeting or business lunch.
Wow , I usually prefer the Classic Chic" but you have put together outfits for the "Boho Chic" that I actually prefer. In particular the camel pants with the tied white blouse the jeans with white t-shirt and black and white print dress with the black faux fur vest. Great job Alyssa.
This was so helpful to me to put into words what I was seeking. Boho Chic is at my heart and core, but for the office, I usually have to tone it down to Classic. I wish to keep adding boho flairs or pieces to my office wardrobe to keep the Boho in it, even if subdued for a corporate workplace.
I always love your videos so much. Not only is the content really helpful, original and inspirational, your personality and shine is beautiful and always makes me smile....I mean that little dance you do!!!! So cute and funny. Keep shinning❣💫💫❣
I've often joked that I'm a bit Chloe meets Alexander McQueen. I love the simplicity of French style, but I tend to push it slightly boho AND slightly London street style. Chic, edgy, boho? Do those even go together??
Another fantastic video! I love this format of comparing and contrasting two styles and building inspired outfits from both. As it happens, right before I watched your video, I watched Brunello Cucinelli | Fall Winter 2021 2022 Fashion Show and Lookbook and wow wow wow - they have combined elements of both Boho and Classic and I was thinking about how your video was so much onto and informing of these upcoming trends. Perfect timing and wonderful advice, as always Alyssa!
Great, great series, Alyssa! Thanks for leaving the shots of the contrasting looks and descriptions up for so long, there is soooo much valuable info in there (I stop the video anyway and read it twice 😄). I love boho looks on others but on me it would feel like a costume - I'm the classic, relaxed, sporty type. My fave outfit was the boho skirt and top, the way you layered the scarf under the belt is beautiful. And those tassels on the heels!
I wasn’t expecting your last boho look to be my favorite, but bam! Talk about commanding the room with your vibe just by empowering yourself with a strong, confident outfit 👌
Very interesting how you styled and compared the two side by side. I just started placing more conscious effort in my styling while helping others find and maintain their style. My wardrobe is definitely the bohemian with new additions of classic blazer and tailored dresses looks. I had to do it for a job; however some it grew on me and began to restructure my styling and even thinking. I definitely feel the your last look on the left was very helpful in seeing the middle ground with my personal style. Thank you for this! 💚👌🏼
What a great video. I'm definitely a classic girl but so interesting to see the difference in styling with just a few tweaks. Outfits all look beautiful on you. Enjoy your week x
Lovely as always. I loved the way you looked in the dress with the tall boots and also the outfit with the scarf. Ik guess I am more of a classic dresser with a very large collection of scarves. Always look forward to your videos on Sunday. Much love from The Netherlands. XOX
LOVED this video! Thank you for making the comparison between classic and boho. I am more Boho but I would argue that your Boho is very sophisticated - traditional boho with a touch of classic.❤️
I naturally tend to reach for a touch of elegance and come up with classic. My lifestyle is extremely casual, so limited use for those pieces. Lol I feel most self-expressive with boho. As you just demonstrated, the two can coexist in our closets.
Thank you! What a great video. I have always loved Bohemian but realize I could never pull it off because I don't have thick flowy hair and I feel it is essential to the look. I guess I'll stick to my dramatic classic
I don't think that long hair is required! You could wrap a scarf around your head. Or wear long, funky earrings or large hoops. Round or oversized sunglasses would work too. I see many bohemian styles that are worn by women with shorter hair. Don't hold yourself back!
So much fun... I wear classic but the boho looks like so much fun!!!! We all need some fun!!!! Time to rev it up a bit all these are all great! Definitely one to rewatch! Thanks Alyssa! 😍😍🗼🗽⛪🌃
My style is a mix of boho and classic. Your gorgeous hair is the perfect boho accessory! Mine is only an inch long so I make do with jewelry, scarves, hats and one ancient pair of slouchy, faded blue jeans. Love all your videos, I’ll be rewatching this one to see what I missed!
So fun…I lean more to classic but … I have a pieces that I can “crossover” to both just like you did here. I thrifted a bohemian vibe sweater vest that buttons in the front and it’s my go-to sweater to throw a long sleeve t-shirt under, or a balloon sleeve blouse and a fun earring or long necklace & flare jeans. I also love love love a modern simple dress with a funky shoe or necklace
Of everything you do, the side-by-side style comparisons using the same pieces are my favorite! So educational, so fun.
i'm so glad you like them! Thank you for watching! zz

LOVED this! Loved the side by side and seeing how I can style stuff I already have in completely different styles. Love love love.
You pulled this off sooo well. So pretty either way. Love how you really follow thru with each look
I’m more casual classic, but as a child of the 60’s my fantasy self of youth loves the boho vibe.
ah love that !
I simply love your channel and alô your hacks. Classy style is extremely elegant but boho makes a woman look so much younger.
I've always known i was classic and now I know how to incorporate staple pieces and accessories with any outfit!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!
I have always had a classic vibe and now trying to incorporate some Boho in my wardrobe. The DVF dress 👗 is so timeless and the print is beautiful. 😊
Fun! Thank you for watching Barb!
Hi Alyssa! You obviously have allot of fun with your videos!! I definitely prefer the classic chic!! I've got to add though that you look great in it all!! Happy Sunday!!
This was so fun and helpful - you showed my top 2 style inspo categories side by side, and you look phenomenal in both!
I'm so glad you liked these two styles! xx
Before the video I would have said I was classic - no question. But I was so attracted to so many of the boho styles...now I am wondering. I will have to shop my closet! Great video!
Omg truly creative💗my heart says I’m boho my mind says nope you’re too old stay classic.
You're never too old to be authenically you. Be brave... Go for it! (And, It'll make others wonder what you're up to. LOL)
Bottom line: don’t let what others might think stop you from following your “heart.” You’re never “too old” to wear what makes you happy. ❤️
I would love to see this type of video again, but with an edgy/rocker chick type of style vibe! I'm not sure what to compare it against, though.
I definitely lean towards a more classic style. I do try to incorporate other styles but my “go to” is always the classics.
Same! Thanks for watching Mary!
GREAT editing! Love these side by side style comparisons-PLEASE keep them coming!
Thank you!
Love seeing you do the boho looks! Love your videos Alyssa!
You’ve done a superb job of nailing down the definitions of both styles!
Ciao :)
Boho! I love how you belted the scarf to create a flowy layer!
Hmmm. Classic boho? Refined Bohemian? Color me happy no matter what - thanks for this post...love the side by side contrasts.🤗
ooh i love both of those descriptions! Thank you for sharing! xx
The dress boho style with the hair gave me classic Cher vibes...ALL the styles were BANGIN!!
ahhh thank you for the kind words! xx
LOVE!!!! im a boho who once thought she was classic. this helps a lot, thanks
Enjoy your week x
so glad you like it and thank you for the kind words! xx
Super video! I'm a little of both! Love structured pieces. Blazers etc. most of the year. When the summer comes I funk it up!
Lovely as always. I loved the way you looked in the dress with the tall boots and also the outfit with the scarf. Ik guess I am more of a classic dresser with a very large collection of scarves. Always look forward to your videos on Sunday. Much love from The Netherlands. XOX
Thank you so much Rita, I'm so glad you are still liking the channel! xx
Of course I still like the channel. Are you kidding me!
Definitely classic for me! I do agree the boho looks fun ... something for everyone 💚
thank you for watching! xx
LOVED this video! Thank you for making the comparison between classic and boho. I am more Boho but I would argue that your Boho is very sophisticated - traditional boho with a touch of classic.❤️
Thank you for inspiring me to be thoughtful about using the clothing and already own as well as being more mindful about buying used clothing 🙂
Looove! Best boho chic vid comparison ever! My heart needed this to get things settle 😄💞
I naturally tend to reach for a touch of elegance and come up with classic. My lifestyle is extremely casual, so limited use for those pieces. Lol I feel most self-expressive with boho. As you just demonstrated, the two can coexist in our closets.
I love that! And yes - they can definitely coexist! Thank you for sharing! xx
I lean more towards classic chic but boho inspired outfits certainly look more fun and casual. Great video, Alyssa!
I am more classic minimalist but I want to dip my toes into the boho chic style!
Love it! That's a good way to balance it! xx
So much fun... I wear classic but the boho looks like so much fun!!!! We all need some fun!!!! Time to rev it up a bit all these are all great! Definitely one to rewatch! Thanks Alyssa! 😍😍🗼🗽⛪🌃
I usually dress more classic chic. But the boho was amazing. I loved all the looks and that large slouchy shoulder bag is just the cutest
Loved this. Thank you. Great ideas on how to have basic pieces that mix and match well, while styling for boho. I will be studying this video.
Your videos are so well done and original. Thank you for putting so much time and effort into them...it really shows!! ❤️❤️❤️
I often wear these accents with my more classic basics to create a relaxed feel more appropriate to my retiree lifestyle!
