    Hello everyone on UA-cam!
When I created this video, it was really designed to share my progress with people who follow me closely and provide a toolkit for people trying to do something similar. It was not a video designed to reach past that and does not show the finished tiny house and set up. Understandably, this has left a lot of questions unanswered. I will produce a video of the finished tiny house homestead within the next month or so that gives the details that were left out in this video. For now, I've had hundreds of people ask questions about my tiny house. I don't like to leave any questions unanswered, so I've written an FAQ and put it at the bottom of this blog. Hopefully this answers all of your questions! If not, please ask in a comment on the blog.

People are not interested on know how the things works in life, people don't care about trash, don't care about our environment. People just want the things done, beauty or whatever. That's why many people skip your video to get frustrate after. I'm not so well on the language, but I hope people could understand what I'm saying. Great video Rob. It's an amazing work, amazing friends who helped you on this. World need people like you and your friends.

holy shit the "people" in these comments are so rude. I really cannot believe it. If so many "people" hate this guy then I really am alone in this world and a unique being because i could listen to him talk all day. He has a gentle voice and talks about zero waste and all positive things and all yall are cutting him down saying he lives in a dog house? wtf.... in a world full of greedy, rude, abusive personalities i wasnt to thank you for a very enjoyable, relaxing 20 minute video that i could sit back and watch. Ive been suffering from depression and anxiety for 2 to 3 years now and i found this video and your morals and ethics and your tone to be rly very nice. thank you

Why is everyone in the comments so bitter? Tiny houses don't have to look like 2 story luxury condos to be considered tiny houses! He has all the space he needs and just wanted to share his experience. No need to bash this guys efforts to live sustainably! ❤️😊

When my dad decided to tear down the unused barn on the hobby farm I grew up on, he designed and with a helper built a 16'x48' garage (I'm guessing on the dimensions, but they're logical). He was capable of doing museum quality work. He built flying wings, gliders, (re?)built a biplane, and a definitely rebuilt the 1946 Piper Cub he flew from the airstrip in the back yard. When he was done, he was left with a pile of sawdust. He didn't waste a blade-width of wood. He was like that.

I can’t wait to start on mine, it will be a bit, but it will be worth the wait. Stay Awesome!! 🙂❤️🙂

I did a government job for 2 years, with which I was able to buy a 3-acre piece of mountain property. Bare, undeveloped, and steep. but it's mine. (As long as I pay the taxes.)
Now, the problem is how to put in a lane? It will require at least $5K to put in the lane needed... but once I get there, I know I could build the shed I will call home.
If I build only as a storage shed, I can get the permits and get the whole thing done before starting to "camp" there permanently.
I have decided I want electricity, but no plumbing... there's a good clear stream I can use for water, and I can do a sawdust bucket toilet.
The problem is the money. I've never had much of an income, though I work a regular job. Wages are just too low to live on these days.

I enjoyed watching your video. I agree with you about how the tiny homes on the market, I have as well seen so many tiny homes are super expensive and the entire idea for tiny homes was smaller, reduce cost , and to leave a much small footprint on the earth.
I think this is great way to develop a tiny home! Great job!

I agree, however both are important to have available because it's such a drastic change to go Tiny for many and it does cost the builder, whether they are a professional builder or not, to build homes of any size, on wheels, water or foundation. One is taking a lot of time and effort and needs to hire others, which is costly. One needs to make a living. I like the barter idea and helping each other, however, so far, it's not so readily available. I am all for changing this. Let's all work together, please. There are many people who need homes.
I want to create a non-profit with volunteers like Homes For Humanity to build Tiny homes and strong Cargo homes. I need land in any areas to do this. If you have land to "gift", please let me know. If we REALLY TRY, If we REALLY CARE, WE CAN DO THIS! If you agree, give a thumbs up, PLEASE. PLEASE PRAY, PRAYER WORKS🤗 BLESSINGS TO ALL.

I want to build all or most homes that work for disabled too. Wide doors can be helpful to anyone. Sinks that lower and raise easily work for children, shorter adults and taller adults. Some need small homes rather than tiny homes. I enjoy brainstorming to make a home work best.

Wisdom's Peace: Where do you live? I'm a 24-year old guy looking for exactly this kind of set up - someone I can help achieve their goals (or any kind of house/garden maintenance) in return for getting some rent-free yard space to live off of for a year or so. I have plans to build something similar to this (a bit bigger but not much). Would love to find someone in LA county area who would be interested in this.
Also-- Thanks for this video Rob. Finding property is the first road block to a project like this and the information you've shared is very helpful. Glad to know it can be done

We live in a society where convenience and materialism is the norm where creativity, hard work, and determination continues to dissolve. I wish we had people like you as my neighbor and friend. Keep making a difference!
Not everyone is going to agree with it, but that's because they've never really learned what it means to live free when "less actually means more". These are the kinds of people enslaved by their love of materialism, quick fixes, and convenience.
Their understanding of "free" is defined as entitlement.

My brother friend and I hammer out nails all the time. We even used all re purposed wood from old fallen down tree stands on some public land to build a few docks on the pond on it. Always better to reuse then buy new. My parents even have a small room in the basement full of old paint that we use for a bunch of different things. I even helped build a house for habitat for humanity and we got most of our materials from their resale warehouse.

I am renovating a camper for a tiny home right now. I have to reframe the corners because they were rotted. I got the materials for free from Craigslist. I put out an ad for free wood and building materials, which got a lot of traffic. I got a ton of metal roofing and screws from a builder, wood from a remodel project, and I was offered a whole cabin that needed to be torn down. With the cabin I got what would I could, but then the snow came. I also scored a bunch of windows from the free section on Craigslist, as well as The Salvation Army thrift store. I am also going to be building a greenhouse, and I bought 2 bundles of culled 2x4s for $20 at my local building center for that. It's super easy to find free or cheap stuff if you just put an ad out and keep and eye out on craigslist.

You can also check out books at the library that can guide you through any process with step by step instructions and illustrations. Very inspirational Rob. I'm planning on building a "not-so-tiny" house next year and have been doing research for the last few years. Anyway, regarding electricity, you might want to check out how to make a simple tessla coil, which would pull electricity from the environment and you can turn on a light bulb (which is pretty cool).

Matt (the Builder) and you Rob sure DO make the perfect match. Hand in Hand helping each other. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Don't get me wrong, or do if you want to and think what most would, it's always good having people around you to learn from, enjoy being with or just sit and listen to melt away. The easier, the better. You know, YOU could make a ton of money and don't really need to change anything in your real life, just be who you are. Your "brightness" makes me blush and i sort of envy you for how you are and who you are, incl. your fresh look. (Again, don't get me wrong). BRAVO. 🤗🤗👏🏻👏🏻 Stay healthy and happy. Another possibility is looking for a an old trailer and refurbishing it. On craigslist I see lots of old trailers or RVs that are around $1500, and even if you have to redo the entire interior, at least you are starting with walls, roof windows and doors. If you are lucky the wheels still work and you have a home you can move. It is not as trendy as Tiny Houses, but there are millions of people living in trailers vans and RVs living a nomadic lifestyle all over the US.

While I commend your recycling and re-use and use of surplus building materials - I would not actually define this as a tiny house. A tiny studio, or office, - yes. However, without electricity or even rudimentary plumbing (composting toilet, a tank and pump sink) it's not a practical living space. Good ideas though nonetheless. Best of luck moving forward.

Rob, whew so many impolitely remarks. Peace. This young man is showing a social serene experimental lifestyle option. I know here in NYC a lot of this is against the law, to put a tiny house in someone's backyard. But some people have huge yards in other areas....and this should be allowed. The cost of houses are getting very high for young people. I bought my first house when easier to buy in early 90s, and just kept flipping...now my sons grown and I downsized to small co op...where everyone shares the green space. I was an Airbnb host for 3.5 years, because my house was too big for just me, bad for the environment to heat a house for one. Now in small co op, less to heat or cool, etc. Bravo to this young man. I just hope he has a job and saving for his older years. The work he is doing for the lady, is valuable too. In NYC e would get paid about 20 to 40 an hour...so a fair deal in exchange for rent..To be honest a lot of people who I know are this sweet and have the time to do such things, and donate their earnings, are trust fund babies, so they are not worried about their future retirement. 😊..and others pushing 60 like me are now struggling for money with health issues after doing so much for society. 😥 The reason why I could not donate my time and energy, because I knew I had to prepare for the future. I had a degree in Environment Science and wanted to save the world but graduation pregnant at 22 years old. Deep inside still an idealist, but glad my oldest will be a doctor in a few months. Life is too expensive in NYC.

Tiny houses always depreciate. It is the real estate (Property) that appreciates.. If you do not own the property that you put your tiny house on, it is a real risk. Financially, it will depreciate, and you will not be able to resell it because it would be prohibit ably expensive to move. You must find a place that is legal to live in it. Most Zoning and Planning requires a sewer and a well or city water hook up. Most require electric hook up from the public utility. And you must have garbage disposal. Off grid is not allowed by zoning and planning boards.. Where are you located and are you hooked up to water/sewer/garbage/electricity..? How did you bring that all together and get past all the Zoning requirements..? Thanks

To all the haters in the comment section:
If you expected to see a luxurious home for "under $ 1,500" then congrats, you're an idiot. This guy is obviously doing what he can to live a simpler life and decided to share his experiences and ideas with complete strangers. That's a very noble and commendable thing to do.

No, that was just the building of it. I started gathering materials about two weeks before building.

Hazardous waste at the landfill always has stains and paints for repurposing. Sometimes you may have to check various times.

Used motor oil can also be used to stain/seal wood. You could maybe call some local mechanics to see if you could get a few gallons for free.

you are inspirational in your deliverance. i have lived in my converted shuttle bus for 3 years now on someones property and keep their yard for them. i really like it. i am extremely basic but I have a place for my clothing, where is yours. what you have is a sleeping room, not a house/home. i know its a process but you need lots more money to finish. so its a bit of false advertising to stay your home is 1500.00. i wish you great times

Also you need to install a corex drain pipe in your flooring and bury it under ground with a screen on the sides so you can have an on demand A/C with zero electricity

We put in an air conditioning/ heater wall unit. We did not want to get raid of it because it was able to keep my 980 sq ft. home warm all winter.

i is his home, his shelter, a roof over his head. All he needs and it cost him next to nothing. Why be negative? I see something clean tidy and simple with room for expansion but you are able to get out of the weather, you can be warm and sort your food. Well done I say.
